Hey all

I'm new to this headphone stuff and yeah, i'm current looking for one. went to a store today and tried on a few and am particularly fond of these two sets but i just can't seem to choose which one to buy. Do you guys have any suggestions? i usually listen to rock and stuff. don't really need awesome bass cos i usually prefer sharper, more crisp notes. my budget's about anything less than $250

thanks all

Dear Mewk

welcome to the haven...

not sure which two models impressed you but for a budget of less than $250 I would recommend the Alessandro MS-1. If you have twice the budget just go for the MS-2 and would be set for a very long time. But work within your budget and means. The Alessandro MS-1 and MS-2 are good cans for rock especially when you combine them with nice amps like the Govibes or Portaphile.

One step at a time.. one step at a time...

if you need to audition the above setups do visit Jaben. Uncle Wilson would be most glad to help you out.

Cans: Alessandro MS2, AKG K701, Beyer DT150, DT990, CrossRoads MylarOne, Koss KSC75 (Modded), OVC TC20

Welcome to the forums! I would recommend MS-1! I was told they were made for metal type of music, so the bass is not lacking & also not congested so guitar strummings can be heard. I tried them too and I got to say, they are really great!

Not only metal, these is also a no wimp when it comes to jazz and many other genres of music.

With the remaining money, I suggest getting GoVibeV5 amp, should be enough. Then slowly time by time, you have the option of playing around with the interconnects to get even better sound.

Got to experience this yourself! Its very subjective so do more auditioning with them & bring it different tracks? I tried Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold. Not bad for me!

Pricing, refer to Uncle Wilson directly at Jaben! Have fun looking for your right pair of headphones!

Hi,

Hmmm, i guess i'll make another trip to Jaben's soon then since most of you recommended trying the MS-1s with the Go-vibe V5s. and yeah, i couldn't listen to rock the last time i went, my ipod ran out of batt and i had to listen to classical...

anyway, thanks all :D Amazing community here!!

Hi Mewk,

Welcome you & me to this forum. :D
Not forgetting the "Xtra X1" amp as well when you are auditing the MS1.
It has good reviews here & over other sites.

im not trying to ruin the party but MS1 is made out of cheap plastic casing as compared to MS2.. so care must be taken to keep them pristine!

Also, if u intend to use them for portability, they are not very suitable becos they are open-ended cans.. which means that u wil be sharing music with other passengers while in the MRT..

I would sae MS1 is less detailed and bright as compared to MS2.. Also, the bass is somewhat everywhere.. (after listening to MS2)

well, it will all depends on ur budget and requirement

Anyway, if u insist on having a headphone for portability, i would probably recommend DT770 32ohm

Hope this helps! ;)

Yes, DT770 is closed back and therefore its more outdoor friendly as it doesnt leak sound like the Alessandro MS-1

It really boils down to whether the original poster will be using it in a portable rig. If it were to be portable, I can't really think of any closed headphones in the price range better than the DT770 (the A900 comes to mind, but the size is intimidating).

I personally would recommend the Alessandros or Grados (I think $250 can get you something in the price range of an SR125) since you listen to quite a bit of rock. I liked how clear they sounded, even for genres other than rock.

Strangely, I feel that the Grados go very well outdoors. Especially since they don't attract much attention and that you'll still be able to listen to car horns when you cross the road.

Hi Mewk,

Welcome. :moneyfly:

For cans, MS-1. Plays most music fine. I am going for one when the stocks arrive. This is a pair of open cans so you probably will use at home and not outdoors.

If possible, keep enough for a OVC TC20 Super value earphones, good sound and isolation, can use outdoors.

If you do want to add an amp now, do consider the C&C Box. Really big sound, more like a desktop amp in a portable package. Can drive most cans, even Dt990 and HD650. Mine is still within 2 days and I am really digging the super clarity and power of the sound, sound field boost included.

Don't just take what I say. Try them out and check out others' reviews to find out what you may like to consider besides.

Have fun.

Beyer Cans are made to feel comfortable. U might wanna take tat into consideration too :)

some of the cans like the K81DJ can really cramp onto ur head and shrink them at times.. alrite, the shrinking part is base on myth

My take is go for the MS1. Anyway regarding brightness of MS1 and MS2, MS2 is much brighter than MS1, during my audition of the MS2, its even brighter than MS Pro.

You won't regret going for either Grado or Alessandro.
