AKG K81dj; my first impression!

the motivation to get a better headphone was due to the fact that i found music on my FC-7 was muddy when there are many instruments playing together, the 3 guitar iron maiden was the worst affected, and as they are one of my favourite bands.......IT CANNOT BE DONE!!!

after searching, came across the AKG 81DJ

instantly hooked............

went to SE for an audition, soundstage was great, much improved from the FC-7, bass was still its drawpoint though, strong, thumping and powerful, drum beats and bass kicks seems so much more impressive!!!double pedals by metal bands sounded so much more prominent!

in terms of clarity, also greatly improved from the fc-7, mids and high was impressive for a headphone for its price.

however there is a drawback, when i went to jaben to purchase mine, uncle wilson opened it from the box, it was like :o it sounded so different! bass was not as tight, it was bloomy.this is a pair of headphones that needs serious burn in to bring out its true potential. 6 hours in(as i am typing this), major improvements already can be heard. truely impressive!!!

for bassheads looking for good isolation, bass and reasonable pricing, this is the pair to get! at $unknown, it has to be one of the headphones with good price-performance ratio! the sturdy build, great price and the bass is worth dishing out a hundred bucks for!

(for a first time impression, not sure how did i do, comments or constructive criticisms will be most welcome B) )

Well, congratulations on your purchase. Agreed, that the FC7 is really too muddy and bassy.

Good effort for your first impression. :D It's far better than mine, though there's always room for improvement.

Burn it in at least 30 hours, remove the foam disks, and you'll get an idea how good they can sound. For even greater pleasure, do a blu-tak mod and a recable, works wonders.

My pair has got all 3 done, but not in s'pore ATM so...
But just remove those disks in the center, they bring the greatest improvement to a new pair.

i would still prefer Alessandro MS1 over all these but its a matter of whether you bother about sound leakage from MS1 or not LOL

also tried the MS-1, really great sounding pair of headphones, however, my main use is during commutes, so an open back isn't really practical, sound leaking out, and sounds coming in, not to forget, a closed back a day, keeps the noisy auntie/kid/teenager/crying baby away!!!!!! :D

btw, so very sorry for posting the price, thanks to the mods for correcting my post!!!
