After using it for such a long time, I guess its the end of the road for my Panasonic HJE50 IEMs. Tested it several times earlier on my iPod to my iBook and even other other audio sources and sound can only be produced from the right side but not the left. :(

Looking forward to a new pair of IEMs though but not really sure which to go for. Seeing stuff like UM1 and UM2 are basically out of the point since they cost like... $200+? Way outta my $100 budget.

Happen to google around and chanced upon this pair of IEMs:

Anyone who had experienced this set of IEMs to give their reviews?

The Hje's are not IEM's but canal phones. FOr sub -100 you can try out the TC-20's or creative 630's. TC-20's are much better though.

I feel sorry about your incident but cheer up, its a chance to get something better! Which I am still waiting for mine to..<_<

Try Sony Gallery at Wisma, perhaps there's chance you can try listening to them. I felt its better that you tried those before purchase since they don't come cheap.

OVCs on the other hand is a low cost high performance canal phones in my opinion. Give them a go at Jaben. Alternatively, try JVC's Marshmellow, seemed pretty popular at Head-Fi forums, there are threads on this too. They are also previously mentioned Creative's EP630. Also, there's Cresyn E630.

I suggest you put some extra cash aside to get a Koss KSC75. Feel the difference of closed & open phones, the detail in the treble & bass, which can be home/classroom/indoor phone while your canal phones be outdoor. Hope that helps!

Oh wow, juz a few minutes and all the swarms for canalphone recommendations come in! :shock: :kowtow:

Keep all those suggestions coming guys, I'll take my time to read thru the reviews for each canalphone that u guys recommended. Give my ears a 'end of year holiday' first (not so good to be hearing stuff like 2hrs a day esp with that PA2V2 giving me its power's worth). :D

Been reading a little about IEMs and it seems that these stuff have pretty good seal (since they go like deep in as opposed to what my HJE and EX71LP used to do). With my HJE and old 71LP, I could barely make out people's words but still hear the airplane hum. I believe with IEMs, all would be sealed completely. :clap:

Kinda wondering if most IEMs would cost above $200?

if you're looking for budget IEMS, the OVC TC20 does a fantastic job especially amped. and its REALLY CHEAP. what can i say... bang for you buck! The PA2V2 however is extremely bass heavy and hissy (on quiet tracks background hiss can be heard, unless ur iem is not sensitive.).

my advice for a better than average iem would be the westone UM1, they work extremely well, nice bass (dont need a pa2v2 anymore) and music just sounds warm and cozy (on jazzy tracks). for rock its upbeat and guitars and keyboards and drums are all punchy! also very warm and comfortable. the comply tips that go into the ear canal are comfortable and feel astho they are not there. once you get the hang of wearing the "behind the ear" wires they feel great and look very sleek. people won't know you're wearing a earphone unless they look at you from the side.

if you're not into too much of bass the super fi. 3 studios are nice and pleasant sounding. also warm and bass just alittle less than the UM1s. they cost slightly cheaper than a UM1 but sounds just as good. i feel they are more balanced (bass to treble ratio, imho). i dont really like them because of the wires that are thick and the "memory" wire feature too... i dont like that but others have compliment it saying it is useful. to each his own.

i think these are the more popular iems for those just starting out. a rough gauge of the prices are as follows:

TC20 = $50
UM1 = $180
SF3 = $160

DISCLAIMER:

the sounds of the iems i have described here subjective and vary from individual to individual. please do have a listen for yourself and keep a open mind while auditioning the iems. expensive does not necessarily mean better.

the prices stated here are just, rough estimates, from prices on the internet. for more accurate pricing please head down to the shops or call them up for a quote.

PS:
an advice on your amp, i had a pa2v2 before and after using for about 2hours i sold it off. if you're thinking of upgrading an amp please do give the Xtra amp a try. if i'm not mistaken, there is a package for OVC TC20 + Xtra Amp. you might wanna take a look / listen.

good luck and let us know how it goes.

Kinda wondering if most IEMs would cost above $200?

The few:

iM616, iM716, er6(i), UM1, super fi. 3 studio, e2, d-jay

cost below $200 (usually). The rest of the IEMs usually go for above $200.

Another canalphone to consider would be the CK7, which stretches your budget by about $30. Try before buying though.

Thanks for all the suggestions of IEMs below $200. :thumbup:

Decided to up my budget a little for a little more quality (in build & in sound). Most of my canal earphones barely lasted me past 3 Christmases. Either 1 side simply dies (like my HJE50) or the sound turns very, very muddy and the covering for the wire becomes very sticky (my old EX71LP).

Juz gave my friend's E2c a go. Not really used to the the Y-wires especially after my past 2 earphones are like necklace styles. The fit was comfy enough but I could feel the wires going around on the top of my ear.

It sounds a little thin, I do hope its not becos of the seal or the source.

Probably will test out the UM1s some time around since it seems so highly rated (and of cos, for such a really branded IEM, selling for below $200!).

Thnx for all ur help! :hifi:
