Hi guys, im wondering if any of you own or have tried the ES2 before? Comparing them to UM2 with UM56 customs, do the both of them basically sound the same? Also, why is the differance in price between them so huge? Im talking RRP here, UM2 with UM56 is bout $600+ SGD whereas the ES2 are like $600 USD! (in earphonesolutions)

well, not speaking from experience, but AFWIK the two only share the same drivers, and is a totally different earpiece altogether. The UM56s are universal molds while the ES2 are full customs. Full customs are of course more expensive because the drivers(according to Westone) are also "customed" positioned so as to deliver the best representation of your music into the ears. Speaking for my own UM56s, the drivers can still move around quite abit within the moulds. And of course I can try UM1/2 and most of the Shure line with the universal moulds. Simply, putting a turbo engine inside a proton does not make it an evo :P... btw, this is one of the "most asked" questions in head-fi scene(not the forum)... |

No problem man, we are all here to share. Its all part of the learning process. If you are starting out, try something less costly to see if IEMs work for you. I know people who can only live with full sized cans... |

Do bear in mind that you can still sell your UM2 (keep the UM56 as your very expensive earplugs for noisy environments  ). You're basically stuck with your ES2 for life, since it's only customised for your ears Something to consider. |

you would have to seal the hole in the earmoulds for the driver bore before they become real earplugs or external sounds would still "leak" in quite badly... that aside, the resuability of universal earmoulds is one of the advantages over full customs. |

Read somewhere that the inability to resold was the primary driving factor for Custom IEM makers to make universal ones (mainly to target the consumer market). |
