Really want to try the HD650s, but haven't got any chance at all. The K701 is great though. Won't vote because of the biasness I have. |

Awww... come on, not this threads again!
I mean even if everyone voted K701, would you rush out of the house immediately and get yourself a K701? Vote within your head, friend, and you will find the true answer there. Anyway, I voted for K701 because I like neutral, transparency and less bass in music. |

hmm.... despite all the likings towards the k701, i casted my vote to the senn though i am not a sennese. to me, AKG tweaks their sound signature towards senn type which i think like a copy cat. Again.. this is IMHO.. |

The HD650 needs alot of run in before it sounds its best. Having heard it right out of the box and after 300 hrs, the difference is incredible... The HD650 is a good pair of cans... BUT, I'd still pick the K701. There is a certain lushness to the midrange of the 701 that absolutely captivates me. PS. I'd pick the 701 over the DT990 as well. Though I'd pick the 990 over the 650. I managed to review both of them, sadly, not at the same time. |

Haha. Set, when? Seriously though, polls are mainly for gathering the response of the other people in the community to find out on the popularity of the headphones in question. Though this may not be very helpful in cases where there are headphones for demoing, it is rather helpful when you are shipping to a remote location. (actually, I prefer this smilie)

Only tried the K701 before so cant really say much apart from it being a good set of cans but must get a DIVA to go along with it

IMO to me, e K701 has a crispy sound which is very enjoyable listening.. wat i dont like when im listening to Diana Krall's Live in Paris @ Jaben is tat Diana's vocal seems to be overwhelmed by the music.. Yet to try HD650 yet, cant comment much |

IMHO, The k701 and HD650 are in diff worlds. The k701 puts u into the music with great tight punches and details. Definately the end-of-the-road for rock or heavier type music lovers. While the HD650 gives you a relaxing sensation. A feeling of listening to a song in a dark room and yet giving good details. Closest sounding to electrostatics or Hybrid headphones for kind of relaxing sensation i felt. |

New thread on HD650 about it sounding very natural. http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=210481 I think it's mostly personal preference, judging from the really varied response. The Omega 2 vs. Orpheus issue is another similar one (though more seem to be leaning towards the more expensive and exclusive Orpheus). |

Hi I was a previous owner of AKG 701. Had fell in love with it when first listened to it at SE and promptly bought it on the spot. Had some time to compare it with a AT W1000, using TS Lim mod Marantz 63SE and Diva headamp at home (had ordered the Diva hdamp so was able to borrow the Diva headamp while waiting for mine to be made). Comparing both, I find the 701 a technically better headphone, pianos sounded more "right", better instrument separation and "lushness" that the AT W1000 did not have ... (going a bit off thread but will get to the Senn HD650 soon) However, for some reason, I find myself preferring the AT W1000 to AKG 701 using the TS Lim set-up! When i listen to the W1000, despite its limitations compared to the 701, i find that it delivers the vocal songs better (which is my listening preference) - i can feel the emotion of the singer while with AKG 701, the singer performs very well technically but minus the emotion bit ... strange after the k1000 came in, out when the 701 back to the main thread ... i recently got hold of a used Senn HD650 with Zu Mobius cable. 650 was run in for over 20 days almost 24 7 as it didn't sound fully burned in using stock cable. as 701 had already been sold, i could only compare W1000 with Senn HD650 w Zu Mobius ... hence the meandearing thread above initial impressions ... Senn 650 w Zu sounded "dark" with roll off at the top ... lacked "airiness" but was very smooth with Diva hdamp a minor change here - Diva amp is now replaced with my own one with the demo set returned - was told that my set is the new and upgraded version subsequently tried the 650 with Zu with portable hdamp Porta Corda 1 from Meier Audio with cross feed on ... the "darkness" and lack of airiness disappeared compared when using the Diva amp ... smoothness remained intact i somehow feel i haven't discovered the full potential of the Senn 650 as should at least partner it with a better Meier Audio amp first beforfe concluding ... i also suspect the grado ra-1 hdamp should sound very well with the Senn 650 based on my previous usage of the Senn HD580 stock with DIY ra -1 a very very sweet combination). summary: synergy is very important. don't judge a headphone w/o trying with different equipments! W1000 goes very well with Diva hdamp imho - i will still listen to it despite the K1000 ... and seemed to get better with the change in set-up mentioned above still haven't found a hdamp that matches well with the 701 imho ... maybe the Cayin ha-1a with tube rolles could help (had also owned this rolled with Mullards many months ago - should not add to my muddled views here on a comparison based on memory) have to try the Senn HD650 with other amps first before concluding ... CAVEAT: everything is imho and based on my limited listening power to fully discern the differences in the headphones and lack of descriptive abilities plus my musical preferences ... ps: haven't had a chance to do A/B of stock cable with Zu mobius cable as had hardly listened while running in 650 with stock cable |
