on the behalf of the people sitting/walking beside you, thanks! you have provided them a mirror-on-the-run lol. these es7 was once in my list but since my budget was higher, i opened myself to more options. being limited to like $200 and below, ATH-ES7,Alessandro MS1 and AKG 81DJ would be great options to enjoy the kicks and beats on the go. |

Well, I doubt that open cans are good for air flights, but.. ..the guy next to you will surely be cursing you for the whole journey.. New toy indeed.. can borrow amp from you for audition? So that I can indeed revel in the wondrous magic of the Diva and MS-Pro...

After a couple of hours of listening, these cans exhibit a certain exclusion of external noises, due to the closed nature, its not 100%, more like 90%, but good enough so that noises do not interfere with your listening enjoyment. Also due to this exclusion of noise, low level detail in the music is more obvious, especially decay of notes, it is quiet while the note just dangles till it decays into silence. V good. Since this can has bass, instruments such as the piano and cello have body. It sounds al naturale. There is also good instrumental separation. Highly recommended. TopG, if you are serious about it, when? |

Nice writeup, cmk. Oh really? Hmm.. maybe next week, Friday then! I'll borrow it for a day or two.. possible? Does this AT can has the normal midrange colouration that other people always associate it to? (I cant hear this "colouration" clearly on the W5k or the W100, it just sounded nice to me. :P) |

TopG Why do you assume that it has a coloration just because someone else says so? With your experience with cans, you should know by now that every can sounds very different from the next. So instead of saying such things as if they are gospel truth, get your facts right, or ask the question properly. I am particularly sensitive to colorations, if there are any, I would generally avoid such products - too tiring. And I do have a reference point, I play the piano. BTW, IMO its ok with the MS Pro, but it really shines with the AT W100, Beyer DT990, AKG K501. Try that cello piece with these. PM me when/where to meet. |

Gotcha, sifu! ![]() Wise words indeed. Yay! Glad to hear that the 990 pairs well with the DIVA amp. Another question regarding the AT cans, how long before it gets uncomfortable (sweat, hot) after wearing it? I'm looking for a set of closed cans for travelling as well. Okay, UGPM! |

I had the chance to try the ATH-ES7 at Jaben's. To be honest, i was really impressed that closed cans can sound so good. A lot of detail, clarity... sounds are well reproduced. Not overly bright, tight bass. Isolates pretty well too. But maybe I'm spoilt rotten by open dynamic headphones. I tried the MS-1s later and I preferred the open sound (do I make sense here?) over the ES7s. I feel the open nature of MS-1s made the music sound less sterile. More fun is probably the term to use. Also, I did not like the shiny cups... collects fingerprints and mars it's beauty. On the issue of comfort... it wasn't very comfortable for me. I did not like the headband. Too stiff. The cups over the ears was fine, but to be honest, the Bose Triports are more comfortable closed cans, sound quality notwithstanding. On it's own, the ES7 is a good pair of cans. Nice toy to add to the collection. Many hours of fun. |

Yes it is tight, very tight. I recall some people had a similar comment about the PX200 needing to get a proper seal. I suppose the ES7 was designed this way in order for it to have a tight seal, note its not a full circumaural design. Anyway, if its tight for you, you can stretch the band, so this argument is really not a big issue. Val, good that you like the MS1, that's entirely your choice. As mentioned above, I like it for its closed design, compact size(read portable), good SQ, so it works for me. I have tried bring the MS Pro on overseas trips before. Though its SQ is without dispute, it is a bit bulky to fit into my notebook bag and it is not sealed, so the airplane's noise does get in the way. Another thing to consider is that the SQ from the plane's jacks are balanced for closed cans, so using open cans seems to emphasize the treble a bit. |

Yep I agree with cmk. I think these ES7s are some really good closed cans. I was genuinely surprised that closed cans can sound so good. MS-1s are not suitable for travel, to be honest. I'd say good choice and for anyone considering to get them for travel, make this one high on your list. |
