This amp synergises very well with all the AKG K501/601/701 models as according to ahdui.. a very good buy considering the offer of $701.. minus off the K701 which is around $6xx, you're basically paying less than SGD$50-70 for a humoungus amplifier.
Dont forget this bloody long amplifier comes with a RCA loop out as well, so if you want to use this in conjunction with your other amp for maybe another pair of headphones, that is also possible. :)

What can I say? It's a very very good value amp.

And nice pics, zonalblitz! The iPodish white colour still puts me off and I am ashamed to admit that I dont like white stuff.. :P

This one seems to be the lower end of it... there's a US side that lists it for 155 USD.

It seems to be a China made amp.

Well you can always opt to pay the full price. I read on head-fi about some people having problems with unmatched transistors. Not sure if it still persists.

how come everyone's talking about the amp instead of the k701? o.O
The thing's a beauty... =)
Tried that out sometime ago..
Totally blew me away when the classical music starts playing, and fyi, I'm not very into classical pieces. =X
Got this disillusion that I am actually in the concert hall, listening to the live pieces being played... wow.. :k701smile:

I have just returned from Jaben with a K701 and a B&W Amp in my bag.

Initially, at 3pm.

Nothing too impressive. I was unable to detect any characteristics of the K701. The sound seems to be even throughout. I was looking for a good set of headphone and was checking the K701 out with the DT880 & DT990 but this somehow caught my attention. OK. Out came the wallet.

Walking... Walking...

I'm sweating under the hot sun. Beads of sweat comes streaming down onto the sides. Damn, I thought. Looks like my ears are going to burn. But surprisingly, it's still cool at the sides. The ears are a little damp but nothing as uncomfortable as the AD700.

4 hours later...

I'm still wearing and listening to it. Music seems to be flowing non stop. I don't feel any headaches or fatigue from listening to it for long periods of time. The K701 is comfy and doesn't apply intense pressure to my head.

K701 + LDM+ + 30GB iPod Video + Belkin Battery Pack.

The sound is clear but I somehow feel that the bass is missing. Perhaps it's due to the LDM+ and the stock interconnect. It's a huge load to be walking around with such an expensive piece with almost my life savings in a pouch around my waist.

Durability? Definitely.

However, it seems to live up to my expectation of a durable set. Dropped it on the floor, accidentally knocked myself into the wall (don't ask how) and banged it on the sides of the MRT train. Dang, although it looks very ipod-ish, the upside is that it doesn't get scratched as easily as my blasted 30GB video.

Isolation? Perhaps.

Tried it in 3 noisy scenarios. Firstly, my friend's birthday party. Next, the bus ride. Lastly, the train ride. Although it cups the ears, don't expect it to do miracles. I'm still able to hear the background noises but they sound muffled. Yes, on an average volume, I am still able to make out my music, just with a very low SNR. But once my friends shut up, the bus stops or the train arrives at the station, audio bliss for that short period of time.

Belkin RCA to Mini Cable? Yea, to the B&W Amp.

The cheapest I've found. They were really expensive at Adelphi. Good quality yes, however, I wasn't there anymore when I suddenly remembered I required one set. Reaching home, I set up the G&W amp with the Belkin cable and connected it to my discman. Plugging the K701 in, I now realise what I was missing while being mobile. Ooh, the bass, the kick. Clear voices and accurate tones.

Well, well, well...

Money well spent.

OMG? It's more like OMFG.

Uncle Wilson will tell you that that means,
Oh My Fatherly Goodness!

Yes, I dropped it. So? It's natural for the clumsy me. It's not the first one to suffer such fate too. My iPod, my PowerBook, my EOS 350D... The list goes on and on... They were made to withstand such knocks!

Anyway, I tested the K701 with the modified X-Can and the Diva. Gosh, the sounds are very critical in the X-Con and lush with the Diva. I'm currently happy with my Tsinghua amplifer though. It really sounds nice with Break Me Shake Me by Savage Garden!

You have a colourful inventory of words  (Converted back to civilian already. No need for cursing anymore)

We need our corrinne may cds

Actually you should play Chisako Takashima's CD on your new cans. :k701smile:

Urgh, I might faint. I'm actually listening to it with my catalogue of Enya CDs. I now just popped a Lisa Ono disc in. Looks like I'm not going to take it off in the near future. Corrine May would really be a good idea to pop into my player. I'll be waiting.

Further observations(audio-wise), I feel that it gives a very wide soundstage. With the band playing, I'm able to pinpoint and imagine which position or direction the instrument was coming from. Even the clapping sounds very realistic.

Urgh, I'm melting. Going to sleep with them on now. Ciao. Tmw going model shoot, need sleep. Won't be bringing my cans though.

Congrats Ballack for your purchase! Haha!
I walked into Jaben today just after you left.

You finally made a decision after numerous times of tries and sleepness nights. Haha! :)

Have fun there!

Instead of doing the upgrade-itis thingy, might as well get one good one and stick to it. Looks like this baby is going to stay in my house for a very long time.

This is the Belkin mini-RCA cable. It cost only $23. Looks kind of stylish.

Almost correct! Canon EOS 20D + 24-70F2.8L without the Speedlite 430EX!

It's all shot at ISO 800, F2.8 or F4.0
