Hi guys, its my first post so please be gentle with me
. Anyway, i went down to jaben for the first time last friday to scout for my first IEM as i lost my ep-630. I didnt bring any audio source down and this nice chap allowed me to use his nano ( Sorry i forgot your name, but i remembered you saying ur an admin here
) Anyway, I tried both um1 and UE SF3 studio, being the audio newbie that i am, i only noticed some small differences, the only major diff that i noticed was that um1 was more sensitive and sounded "louder". I quite confused at the moment and need some advice, I listen mostly to bass heavy music like Trance and my past earphones includes sony ex70, ex71 and creative ep-630. I like, or should i say am used to their bass heavy sound signatures. Im currently leaning more towards UE SF3. Can some kind soul pls comment on UE SF 5EB? I can't find any reviews on it. Is it available at Jaben and how much is it? Sorry for my obscenely long post, hope to get something tonight at Jaben. Thanks! |

Welcome to SGaudio! ![]() I believe the guy you were talking about is ahdui, or Danny. Anyway, speaking of the Super fi. 5EB, the general opinion is that it is too bassy and that it overwhelms the rest of the sound, leaving the mids and treble rather unclear. This may vary from user to user though. It is thus important that you test it out yourself. I personally tried it before (if I remember correctly, can't remember if it is the super fi. 5EB or pro model ), but was unable to get a good seal, hence the lack of bass response and overall lack of clarity. I tried it at Jaben, by the way.The UM1 is a rather good introductory IEM, in my opinion (I owned one before), and has decent mids and bass impact (for an IEM). The bass is rather tight, though it may sound insufficient if you upgrade from the EP630 (which is overly muddy in my opinion). Highs are said to roll off, though the overall detail level is decent. Haven't tried the Super fi. 3 studio, but it is supposed to be another very good introductory IEM. |

some how or rather, i find sf5eb sound much more balance than um2. um2 sound bassy and lack of treble extension to me. sf5eb is less boomy on the music is listen to. and most important is the treble present is more felt than um2. just my opinion. |

the sf5eb is in my ear now... returning it after my dad gotten his sf5pro this few days. sf5eb should cost slightly more than $300. actually i disagree with you. i had the same background as TS but now i hate those bass pump out by those canal phones. it take some time to change ones listening habit... |

same here. coming from ep-630 to sf3, i had to get used to the drop in bass. but it's not as if that it's bad, as what i've come to appreciate that it's abt the quality not quantity. when i go back to the ep now, it sounds much narrower and muffled. i think with abit of top-up, the 5 pro will be a better choice over 5 eb. more balanced. |

From your past collection of IEMs, I can see you are well... a basshead. I suggest you take a listen to both the sf5p (UE Super.fi 5 pro) and the um2. If you've decided you cannot live without the bass, try the sf5eb one last time and see how significant the change in sound compared to your EPs. If they are minute, save your cash and but another ep, you will be happier. If not, the eb would be your best choice. Hook it up to a portaphile, and welcome to basshead heaven.

Well what I can say is try for yourself & who knows you may find it "EB" to be very nice with the right pair up. Meaning source, interconnects & amps. |

Hi Lucid, First of all, welcome to the forum! Regarding your question on Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 EB, there are several views to this 'bassy beast'. But anyway, do stay tuned to the forum for a Super.fi 5 EB review. To begin with, the Super.fi 5 EB has a high armature and a 13mm bass driver unit. The interesting thing with the large bass driver is that it has the potential to deliver the dynamics where some earphones can't. Most fellow forumers would have experienced terrible boomy, distorted bass, drowning the highs and mids. I had a similar experience as well until one day in Jaben where a few of us decided to conduct an experiment on how the bass could be tamed by the several types of interconnects, typically the Mamba-D, Python-G and Viper-X. As result, we discovered the 'fast' cable, Viper-X could tame the bass output and control. However, we were still not satisfied on the 5 EB for the boomy bass. We were using iPods, Creative and iAudio as sources, basic amps such as Little Dot Micro+ and Go-Vibes for the tests. On the later stage, we went on to try the Viper-X on various high level portable amplifiers. As result, we found 1 particular amp which could deliver the acoustics which will alter our impression of the boomy bass Super.fi 5 EB. We made comparison of the acoustics on a track of 'wind' blow-past on its introduction. The set-up with the 5 EB could recreate realistic sound of the rush blowing past the gaps of the sliding windows/doors. As our Moderator, Qsilver2001 said was true. Sometimes it lies down to your source, interconnects and amplifiers. Nevertheless, give the Super.fi 5 EB a try yourself. Have fun! |

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome. I bought the UE SF3 Studio eventually. After i reached home, i found out that the left cable to the earphones is longer (bout 1 inch) compared to the cable on the other side. Is there anything I can do about this? like a 1 to 1 change or something? Thanks!! |

actually this little glitch doesn't have much effect on the performance. But if it is your mentality which cant accept it, do contact Jaben Network and check about it with uncle Wilson. |

to be honest, i don't like the EBs, but then you see... i haven't tried it with a amp yet. so i can't say much. and yes the possibility of it sounding good on some genres of music is there.
for the serious basshead there's no other iem. heehee i just got my SF3s too and i'm enjoy them... welcome to the headphone haven bro

the 5 EB has its kicks. i'm now listening to it paired with the LDM+. seems to have a little hissing when not playing music, probably too sensitive. but i love the oomph it gives. of course, it overpowers the treble but if you're listening to music such as linkin park, green day and all-american rejects, it sounded quite nice. |
