Out of curiosity, i decided to drop a mail to Sytec Ptd Ltd with regards to the UE customs and was quoted a price that was kinda steep. Their reply goes like this: (hope i don't violate any rules though) Hi Ed, thanks for your interest. The personal touches are mainly the color that you want. It can range from skin color, through combined multi-color setups all the way to clear ("Look thru"). The molded shape itself is very much customized according to your ear shape. The metal case has your name encarved into it, and inside it is foam polstering for the earphones and their accessories. The cables are always plug-n-play replaceable, as with all UE earphones. Payment is: 100% cash upon order, here at SYTEC PTE LTD, or via mailed crossed cheque. Shipping and Waiting Time: Approx. 3 weeks between your order and having your UE package in your hands. This covers all logistics, and you do not have to do anything. You get your own ear impressions, hand them over to us, we do the rest, including all freight between SIN and USA, to and fro. Costing: Depending on which model you are focusing at, the range goes from dual driver (UE5) to triple driver (UE10), and the costing range is from SGD1,600.00 to SGD2,100.00, all inclusive respectively. Kind regards, SYTEC PTE LTD xxxxxx Managing Director |

Hey, that's cheaper than the latest Intel chip!! And u cant wear that in your ear either, not to mention u get to stick them in both sides!! When I saw crazy, I thought it was like "crazy"-ly low prices, but seems like i'm wrong  Anyway, it's an almost okay price except that they dont bulk it with the earmold impression prices only. Sytec does have a recommended earmold clinic to go to, though. Order from US anyone? |

Err... Seriously though, I thought the crazy prices meant crazily low prices. The $1600 is especially ridiculous for the UE5C. |

It really not about the prices, more of the great premium you have to pay to buy it locally than if you order direct through UE (is it possible?) I personally would really like the UE10 pro. It's still my dream IEM, and probably ranks amongst the top few headphones (in production) that I would really want to acquire. That puts them in the league of the Qualias and the O2s. The IEMs may be small, but the Intel/AMD chips are smaller, and costs much more (though they can be put to quantitative use, unlike the headphones/IEMs' uses, which can only be measured qualitatively). |

Seriously speaking audio is a very luxurious hobby and at most times it's gonna burn a hole in your pocket. But is it worth it ? well if you can justify the cost and love the sound than why not ? But i think its best to find someone who has a similar preference in sound as you do and owns the ue10 as well and ask them for their opinions. But that is actually the hard part. |

Nothing personal metrablue, but if you look at the westone website, it is stated that the ES3s are not recommended for music playback, instead it is meant for artists doing monitoring during a live concert because of it's slight bump in the mid section. |

There is an impedance mod over at headfi which is supposed to be able to remove the mid-range hump (not too sure how effective, though judging by the response, it's rather decent). Actually, if I am not wrong, the ES3 costs about the same as the UE10 pro. So it really boils down to the brand name you prefer and trust. You can't really tell from the sound signatures of the other non-custom IEMs by the company on how the customs would sound. |
