I have to agree with you the DT990 sounds way better, the soundstage is so much better than the DT880. However it takes a while to appreciate DT990.

When I first heard the DT880 and the DT990, I thought the 880 sounded better, but after prolonged listening, the 990 came up tops.

Eh?
I have to agree with you too flu_fighter.
The 990 sounded boomy and veiled when I tried them out at the PC Show and I ended up with the DT880 instead.

However, upon clearer and longer exposure period of comparing between the two, I ended up trading in my 880 for a 990 instead. The expense of scarificing my "bass-less" taste for a 20% increase in detail. B)

Never look back since. :beyer:

Bass-less? I don't find the DT990 bass-less at all.
After trying out DT880 & DT990, DT990 is definitely a keeper.

Top means he does not like bass that much, so he is sacrificing by having to endure the extra bass that the 990 has over the 880.

after testing out both headphones as well, i personally need the bass of DT990 but i love the DT880 for my instrumentals and ballads songs. it's pretty hard for me to choose either because i'm listen everything from instrumentals to trance.

what would you guys recommand? but anyway i somehow prefer the semi-open design of the DT880. can act as speaker in my bunk as well lol. :P

Get both

But get the 990, it's more worth it. I try to keep the bass down by not listening to bassy music and in case you need it, tweak it with an equaliser or something so that you get more ooomph B)

Thanks for clearing that up.. but now I've gotten more to appreciate bass.. although IMHO, it disturbs the treble region because TO ME, after every deep and resonant bass there's this "bass-echo" that lingers it's presence.. Some prefer it some dislike it and I'm in the opposing camp.. it's tightness still lose out to MS-Pro's which is short and punchy. (but here again people tell me you will get bored after listening too much of punchy bass.)

I like old revision DT880 (Edition 03) more than new revision (Edition 05). I still don't know why the complete sound spectrum of new DT880 is reproduced with deepest sub bass. The Beyerdynamic engineers change the signature of DT880 completely.

DT990 Edition 2005, DT880 Edition 2005, DT880 Edition 2003 & DT770 Edition 2005

Maybe it's time we have a headphone faq picture thread. Lots of samples available

For Beyerdynamic I just have DT990 Edition 05, DT880 Edition 05, DT 880 Edition 03 (Leather Case) & DT770 Edition 05. However, I don't like DT440, DT660 & DT 860, it is because they are too plastic.

[ Qouted from 'TopGun' ]

Perhaps it should mean:

Quote:

The flagship model for Beyer after the year 2005 (a.k.a '05 Edition) is the Beyerdynamic DT990 while the flagship for the years before 2005 (a.k.a '03 Edition) was the Beyerdynamic DT880.
Hence you advocate that our friend union here do not compare the both ('05 Edition DT880 vs '03 Edition DT880) because they are not the same.

Please PM me if you have any queries. Thank you!

Dear V‰Áš±, (A warm welcome to the Forums!)

If you wanted to stand up and bring forward your side of the argument, first you must try to explain your stand in a coherent and understandable manner. Even if you continue like this, people around here will not take your words seriously. ;)
We sure don't want that to happen, no?

First, let's say you have misread union's perspective regarding to the quote below.

It was the act of the engineers to change the sound spectrum of the old DT880 to the new DT880 signature that totally irked our friend union here.

However, I think that the new DT880 sounds better than the older revision, of course.. it's like the newer version is a tad more refined than the old one.. and the bass goes real deep.

Not to mention Beyerdynamic's weird renaming policy for their new line of headphone models which confused everyone more.. so that maybe an unwise move for them.. okay?

Chill and let's enjoy.. :beyer:
