Some pictures for you guys to see 1st.

CK9 in it case

CK9 in my ear. It does not seat like the UMs

Comparison to SF5pro with FS mod

Design and Cord
On the first look and from the picture from AT, it look like the CK9 is wore the same style as um1 or um2. But no. On the picture, you can see the CK9 is not seating in my ear. But CK9 is even more comfy than um1.

The wire is rough and thick which is a let down to me... the thick wire causes microphonic which is more than im716 wearing aka shure style. The wire also tend to cure up itself. it never seems to be straighten. How i wish AT use CK7 wire on CK9.

The noozle is big. it almost same size as E2 but smaller than UE SF series. i'll do some moding so i can try to use SF biflange when i got mine. Some people complain it hard to get the fit with CK9 but it not the case for me. just pop in and there my musics goes.

Case is over in shape. Similar to Westone case but much smaller. There is 2 pocket in the case.

Devices Used For Testing
ipod Nano 1st Generation with rockbox
Line Out Dock
DIY Canare cable with L shape Neutrik Plug
GoVibe V5
iM716 Bass Mode
CK9
SF5pro

Sound
Wow. For it price, it will give um1, d-jays, e2, e3 a run money. it very warm sound. much more than um1 and um2. Soundstage is there. It much more than im716.

Bass
Very rich and natural. It produce much less impact compare to im716 Bass mode. But it can be eq to a pretty heavy level without distortion. It had a good extension but slightly less than SF5pro

Mid
Very rich, creamy, warm and smooth. It reminds me of E4. And from my memory, E4 even lose out in warmth as compared. Details is slightly lacking compare to im716 here, but more than that of SF5pro. I used to think im716 was warmer than SF5pro and now CK9 was so much warmer than iM716 so go figure out

Treble
Treble might be the weakness of CK9. There seems to be roll off at the Hi-mid region. But CK9 still extend much futher than the UMs in my opinion.

Round Off
ck9 is a very musical IEM. The sound is very smooth and fun. Normally I would consider very long to decide should I buy a earphones but ck9, without thinking i wanted to buy it. It'll replace my iM716 for casual listening. For it price, it really hard to resist. I preordered a black colour set. Now waiting till 1st week of dec for my CK9 to arrive. Can't wait for it. Well Done AT for it 1st IEM

Thanks for another scoop, Theory!

Hmm....I have previously tried a few AT canal type IEM's, and I was not impressed with the sound. They all sounded a tad hollow and boomy.

So, you're getting a pair? I was looking for a set of IEM's that can serve me when I travel overseas. My UM2 with customs is expensive enough to make me nervous :P

It kinda looks suspiciously like the Creative Zen Aurvana. Maybe AT is the ODM for Aurvana.

Flu, you may just be right. Creative gets a lot of OEM stuff from AT. No mention of price in the writeup. How much does this cost?

yup. it single driver. AT had got it right this time and i hope to see more high end IEM from AT. about the package, i'm not very sure. i think it:
1 hard case
1 ck7
3 pair of ear sleeve (small, med, large)

ck9 is design like e2 so there is no filter to change...

i just auditioned the CK9s today, and i must say i was impressed with the sound. i really like it as it was warm, the bass was there and the music sounded good. and yes it does have abit of treble roll-off but otherwise it was enjoyable. the details were there and they seem to be a easy iem to drive. i was using the iaudio X5L.

one thing that stopped me from immediately pre-ordering it was the cable that was thick and did not "conform" to the shape of the ears (i seriously prefer the westone cables) i suspect microphonics will be present with this IEM.

the other reason that stopped me from the pre-order was the price as well. i feel that it is abit pricey now and i shall wait and see...

pricey i don't think so. Consider it price to be below RP. I cant say out the price here. sorry.

Cable i agree. microphonic will sure exist so i stated i prefer ck7 cable. but it might be soften over time like my im716. and i hope it'll. if not, it time to recable. treble roll off can be rectify with slight eq setting...

the reason why i find it pricey is because of its built. it doesnt seem to be as solid as the um1 and the price is higher than the um1s or sf3. i'm gonna put this on hold till there are more users who can review it after using it for a longer time. i sure hope those cables can get "seasoned" and become softer....

oh. built wise i did thought of it. that why i try to put stress on the case when testing. but so far so good. i'll let you know more after my set arrived.

Hey, I think I saw you at SE. I;m the guy with the iPod testing the iM716. haha. I was still wondering if you are someone from sgheadphones. Hmm. I still find UM1's built and design to be one of the best around. Although most of my friends find it ugly...

its the nature of your earcanals.
every single person has his/her canal pattern.

and this includes matters like earwax buildup, eartips fittings and etc

oh so thats joi-ful :) nice to meet you hehehe, yea i was testing the ck9s out that day. as for the fit, i believe you can get the right fit with the right tips so thats okay...

but seriously the build is tacky compared to the um1s. (which i find very nicely built and solid. i have stepped on my um1 before and it didn't break phew!)

i still don't see it being worth 269 as stated on the other forums... do you guys remember how much the aurvana's were retailing for? and look at how much they are selling for now!

oh give me a break... AT.

anyway, now i understand what you mean by expensive. But I'm getting it at a much cheaper price so the price justify it.

aurvana and ck9 might me different case. creative is known to drop their earphones price every now and then. take a look at EP630. $69 > $49 > $39. For AT pricing, it more stable.

i've tried that CK9 and i must say it can fight with um1 and sf3 or even beat them both.

but the price wasnt justifiable.

yes i believe about it too :)
now i can say that u've made the right choice.

IMHO, i would choose it over the um1 and sf3. However, YMMV!
