Hey jlingo! Great to see you here
You didn't emailed me that you were coming last weekend to make your ES2s.. at least I could have dropped by and give your little kid a visit, and your whole family, kinda miss them I'm amazed by the mold colour.. they're sorta transparent yet.. hmm not transparent at all.. Is that a camera effect or? BTW, for those who dont know, the top one is the e500 + custom earmold while the bottom one is the Sensaphonics. |

Hi Top-Gun, I was there and apparently you were preparing for a website or an exam not sure. but I met Adhui there in Jaben.I was supposed to pass by this week but was unable to do so due to family matters which is too bad. Not sure whether my ES2 is already in at Jaben or not. Top-Gun, I have JMT Pimeta that pairs very well with Etymotic. Really well. I'm selling it for SGD$100.- If you are interested I will bring it along. SR-71 doesn't sound good with Etymotic. It's too bright sounding. The links are all up now. had problems with the server yesterday. Adhui, I'm sure the next time, I will see a lot of you in Jaben. Sorry I gotta go now. |

wsilvio: Yes it is sounded thick, textured warm and much more intimate. It is a much higher resolution, better dynamics. Less Soundstage but you feel the music instead of only hearing the music. The sound is no longer balance but yet involving. I found only one problem, the high becomes more rolled for both UM2 and E500. So it's giving a perception of muddiness. You wil have to turn on the trebleboost which is not recommended. SteaxAuce: I will choose Sensaphonics any day very slim small, light and very comfortable. The E500 + Custom Sleeves looks Big and Ugly. It is sticking out like the Super.Fi.I just received my Sensaphonics from a repair Chicago last week. I noticed that the high is much better than before. Perhaps in The US, Sensaphonics high frequency has been improved as well? I need someone else to confirm on this. Sensaphonics is more detailed, laid back, more balanced, better high, and bigger soundstage, smoother than UM2(UM56) and E500(Custom). I like Sensaphonics, I can listen to it for the whole day without fatique. With Sensaphonics, you can throw pretty much any recordings, good or poor recordings, it would still sound decent. E500 sounds harsh sometimes with certain recordings. But E500 is much less harsh with custom Sleeves. It is a completely different beast compared to its Universal Brother. Kichu1979:Sensaphonics Custom Sleeves are much superior than UM56 in comfort only: E500 Is also locked into place very nicely. So it won't come off from the mould as easily. Resulting in a better and quicker insertion or removal. Much more comfortable than UM56. E500 is bigger and heavier than UM2. So using UM56 with E500, I found that E500 was puling UM56 down. Therefore the UM56 Silicon inside the ears were putting pressure to my Ear canal so it became very sore after an hour or so. I didn't experience this problem with Sensaphonics Silicon' Sensaphonics Silicon is also softer. BUT the sound is nicer with UM56, I don't experience as much high being rolled off. Artears: I use foamies and other tips before with E500 but didn't like the sound(Less involving, harsher, very light and dry not as rich sounding). I have always liked the sound coming out of the Silicon: UM56, Sensa Sleeves, Sensa 2X-S. I used E500 for a month before taking a plunge on Custom Sleeves. The same happened to UM2. The UM56 converted it into a different beast. Better Clarity, Bass, Resolution and much more. No More muddiness feeling. Although after listening to the Sensaphonics 2X-S, I found E500 and UM2 to be Muddy. As a side note:With E500, I like the sound coming out of the default grey tip as well. It sounds airy, sweet with good soundstage. |

Hi jlingo, no worries!
Haha, you really have some nice earmolds over here.. The transparent yet fleshlike colour is so cool.. what option did you ordered? Care to share? I already have a PIMETA board on hand and will be trying to build it after the As, so yeah thanks for the offer! :respect: When will you be coming back for your ES2? Pssst... what colour you ordered for the Westone Custom? |

Top-Gun: Ah ok that's good for you then. I thought I would mention it since JMT Pimeta is quite famous, very good synergy with ER-4S I ordered Clear. But Apparently it is not in Jaben yet. |

Ok, here it is the conclusion, E500 + Custom Sleeves, is very analytical, thick, great bass, and good isolation, a bit on congested side and muddy. E500 with Grey Tips, Very sweet, good soundstage, splashy high, airy, but poor isolation. So it's all up to you to choose. Sensaphonics, is very rich and smooth sounding, it's also very addicting, very comfortable. It's the number one pick for me. Anyhow, I have to turn off all the EQ. I have learnt something today, EQing changes the character for each IEM and for the worst. I didn't really like it in a long listening session, UM2 has become less balance and harsh, the sweet midrange disappeared. E500 is the same thing changes the midrange less warm. So I guess, Sensaphonics has got them all, sound stage, smoothness, good bass, and great high extension. |

I just tried Sensaphonics Sleeves with UM2. Also the same, resulting in darker sound. The high is more rolled off. So I guess, no win-win situation. UM56: great sounding(Good High) Sensaphonics Sleeves: great comfort(Roll off high) |

well, my sensaphonics are on their way back from Chicago as well. both drivers had to be replaced so the repair was a little $$, but i will report back on this high freq discrepancy then again, compared to how muddy they were sounding before repair, anything may be an improvement
having said that, if you only got the sensa's back last week, perhaps they need to be re-burned in ? i don't know what repair work your set had to go through, but if they replaced any significant parts, the sound change might be due to that ... let us know if you still notice a difference after a 're-breaking' in period

Yeah may be it needs burning-in. How long ago have you owned Sensaphonics before it broke down? It's about 1.5years for me. The left one was dead and the right one has moisture in it. It costed USD$300.- for replacement with a brand new one. How much did it cost you for your replacement? Did you get any quotation yet? |

eerie ... thats almost exactly the same as mine ?? i noticed the problem on my recent plane flight back from the US. the left ear kept cutting out, and the right sounded 'muddy' the sensa tech informed me that some oil and moisture had gotten into the right earpiece which had caused the problem - the left was caused by some wiring coming loose ? or broken ? any way, the cost for remakes is standard $150 per side, so $300 USD for both the sensa's arrived in April 2005 and problems surfaced in June 2006 ... so about 1.25 years ? even less than yours

By the way why don't you try http://www.hearingprotection.co.uk It's an upgraded version of Sensa 2X-S? Here it's the email I recevied from them. Very prompt in replying emails: "Hi Thanks for your mail. If you are a 2XS user, you would be very disappointed in the response of the T3. It's a single speaker monitor and as such can't compete with the twin speakers of the 2XS. Our T2 is an upgraded version of the 2XS - we use a different High Frequency driver and softer silicone and cable. Users of both prefer the T2. Hope this answers your question, but if you need any further information, please don't hesitate to contact me. Best wishes ACS" |

um .. because i already invested in the Sensa ? how many custom IEM's does one need ? seriously though, i only recently heard about the ACS T2, and am a little dubious about their 'upgrade'. the sensa silicon is already quite soft, so to make it SOFTER may promote even more breakdowns that what we have experienced ... its SO 'dangerous' to buy custom IEMs, because you really have no idea what they are going to sound like until you are past the point of no return. can't audition and can't sell on if you don't like in the case of my sensa's i even had to send them back for remake, 'cause the ears were not seated properly and in fact they had made it with the breakaway option originally which i had not requested ! and didn't send me the cable with which to use it !! so me and the sensas really for off to a rocky start ... but once I 'tamed' them ... bliss man ...maybe another 1.5 yrs down the line if/when they fail again I will take a look around for another solution, since I am now a 'believer' in the custom IEM. But the longer I have to wait, the better, in this case

THEY HAVE RETURNED !! just in time for my b'day too for all that i was complaining about the price for the repairs, I think they went ahead and actually remade the whole damn thing - i had placed a small notch on my plug which is now 'fixed' as well. mind you as long as my serial number is on the earpieces, I'm satisfied  It abso-tively needs breaking in though. I don't know if I would call it an 'improvement' in high freq, but theres definitely MORE of it - so much so that I had REAL trouble with sibilance on Corrinne May's "Little Super Hero Girl", as well as other female vocals Bass also seems ... muddy is way too harsh considering the Sensa's details ... maybe 'muddled' is more accurate, if you'll forgive the oxymoron
have to say though, they remade the earpieces with molds provided by our very own Jaben - and they definitely fit better than the pair I had before. Slides in smooth with a solid, non-pressurising feel. Minimal adjustment for good seal

This pair sounds like the customised version of the ER4Ps though, souped up highs, nice midrange and also sucky bass.. hmm.. might just be the pair for me! Hey, I thought your molds must be done by a certified audiologist? Getting a mere shopowner to do it for you aint professional, if you get my drift.. I believe they would have rejected it though? Heh, yeah Wilson's earmolds are superb. Great fit for me!

Actually ACS T2 has been there for a long time. It used to be the exact same drivers as Sensaphonics, so the sound signature is virtually identical. but then because it was located in UK, and costed more than the one in The US. That was the reason I went ahead with Sensaphonics Chicago. Then not long after I ordered Sensaphonics from The US, The UK camp announced that they have upgraded their HF Driver. And few months ago they have upgraded their cables as well. And from the latest news, even the LF has been upgraded. Technically, from what I have read, the ACS T2 is a souped up version of Sensaphonics. And this year, I think Sensaphonics went ahead to upgrade its HF driver as well. |

By the way, try to hook your Sensa up directly to the iPod without Amp. I find SR71 with Sensaphonics sound very harsh, sibilance, thin midrange, and light bass. But directly hooking this up with iPod 5G, it sounded amazing, just about enough high, not really sibilance, thicker midrange, and better bass. |

I didn't really like it in a long listening session, UM2 has become less balance and harsh, the sweet midrange disappeared. E500 is the same thing changes the midrange less warm.
