Moderatus Supremus - Da Big Stick

Well, I was reading this issue of HWZ (October 2006 issue) on the train on the way back from work. Yongchris seemed to love it. A 9.5 score! Fully deserved, IMHO And let me tell you, I had a hard time reading the magazine. Who is the art/layout guy? And what makes anyone think tiny fonts, light blue text / orange text on white is even remotely legible?! Holy cow, I can barely make out the caption texts on the photos Anyway, I persevere because the articles are damned well written and there are comprehensive reviews of lots of interesting gear. Challenger stores definitely carry the mag. You might also try Times, or the bigger newstands. |

Thanks for reading and supporting the mag. We've been trying to consistantly cover more headphone gear as it seems relevant to the readership these days. |

i've seen it too, so it's by one of you here. it was my first time coming across a portable audiophile review off the computer, so was kinda excited. nice read, nice work! one suggestion would be to compare with other products of the same price same genre.

We actually done a IEM showcase (I think it was aug 05), and I've actually covered most of the IEMs on the market. And some top end headphones as well (650, 990...etc). We even reviewed the Orpheus (Jan 05), thanks to a special invite from sennheiser asia. Of course my personal fav writeup was the aurvana vs the UM1 two months ago Since we review DAPs and PMPs, covering alternative aftermarket headphones should be a must. |

[/QUOTE] Dear yongchris, I hope you wont regard my comments as negative and such. But first of all, great review and the effort you all put in to write those smacking reviews! Nice, intuitive and easy to read. Detailed descriptions as well. Always like those "handshot", "palmshot" thingy. However, on the other hand, sometimes the layout template is just copied, and the facts and datasheet are usually mixed up and are wrong. Like u have 1/4" CCD, 5.oMP on the UM1 review last time. Then the pictures for the UM1 eartips and Aurvana eartips were flipped. That aside, I would hope that you could scan and upload those reviews that you have done (or those of the Orpheus and the IEM shootout) here, so that we get to enjoy it. Cheers! |

designers fault. nothing to do with me. I'm only a contributor, so I just submit my articles and leave it up to them to put in the layout for the mag. And since I'm not physically present at the office, I don't get to double check mistakes before its sent to the printers. seriously though, if you spot such mistakes, you should go ahead and email the editor and provide feedback. We honestly love to hear from you. Chris |

Did u take my reply as offensive? It's nothing of those sort, but just wanted to help to make the mag better. It seems like this desginer's fault has been quite prominent for some time. Sometimes it pops up on different reviewed items too. Don't u think so? Okay, will email them later. |

nope, not offened at all. no worries. I'm glad for the feedback. I was particularly peeved abt the mistake in the aurvana vs um1 review and I didn't find out about it till someone pointed it out to me AFTER the mag went on sale. There's little I can do about it... except maybe apply to join them full time to help in the final editing. Chris |

I will put up a scan of the review, but only when the next issue hit the newsstands. Don't want to take away any potential sales of the mag. It's a decent read, packed with well written articles. They do need to fire their layout editor and come up with a more reader friendly layout though!
