I used to be into punk rock for a very short while, and I listened to them then. They're okay, but they're not phenomenal. I actually stopped listening to rock entirely for a while and started listening to a lot more jazz (which is the single most versatile genre ever and I love it. Jazz composers think on a level well above any rock artist, and most any other composer for that matter.) That is, until I started listening to Dragonforce. There's sort of this debate as to whether or not they can really play what they do (I believe they can, since I went to one of their concerts and they could. Well, except for Sam. He was totally wasted the entire time so they turned off his guitar). Anyway, they're simply amazing. They have an incredible technical mastery of their instruments (particularly Herman Li, the lead guitarist) and their songs are very well written. I think you should give a listen to Dragonforce, Ellington and Roy Hargrove (I haven't heard much from Hargrove, but I went to this concert a night or two ago and they had this awesome, slow funk chart. Oh man, it was a total eargasm). Or Aphex Twin. He has some good stuff, too. Druqs had a lot of crap on it, but Selected Ambient Works was great. So was Windowlicker, but that was a single. And the cover gives me nightmares. Sexy, sexy nightmares. Edit: So I guess the simple answer to your question is no, I do not currently listen to the Ramones. 2nd Edit: (C5 - A5 - G4 - A5 - E4 - D4 - C4 - A4) swung eighth notes, (G3 - D4) quarter notes with a glissando on the D (C to D), (C4) whole note. This is that awesome song from Hargrove I was gushing about. I didn't have any way of notating it on a staff, so you get it in this awkward format (C5 is one octave above C4, which is one octave above C3 and so on). I don't know if it's the right key (I can't remember pitches very well) but you'll get the basic idea. This is just the chorus between solos. If you guys have a couple minutes and a piano I encourage you to try it out since it's really a cool lick. |
