I like to invent stuff for video games, even if I don't intend to ever use it again. Anyway, I was trying to make trainee clases for every class in the game, but I ran into a bt of a snag for the Monk/Priest trainee (I haven't been working on trainee names yet, just promtotions and weapons). What weapon would the trainee use? More importantly, how would you balance it so that Priest wasn't completely useless? I think promotions would have to be changed as well, because both Priest and Monk promote into the same classes.

The only other thing I was having trouble with was Dancer and Manakete. I figure they ought to share the same trainee class (don't say that it wouldn't make sense, think of Ninian), but once again there are immediate problems. The way I see it, the trainee class should have something special that it loses upon promotion (unless you choose super trainee). Dancer will be a little bit better, with all sorts of magic rings that can do more than just change stats. There will only be one promotion instead of two (because dancer and manakete don't promote), I'm pretty sure that will be enough because manaketes get stat bonuses from the dragonstone.

I can scientifically prove that boredom can kill you. However, by the time I figure out how to prove it, I'd have already died of boredom.

i have been doing the same thing, i had one for the monk/priest but i forgot it, if i find it i will put it up. i understand the dancer and manakete, the rings make the dancer cool and there should be limited dragon stones for the manakete. i have also been trying to think of one for Myrmidon/Thief and Wyvren rider/Pegasus Knight

For the monk/priest trainee, I'd say make them use light, and I'd call it acolyte. The final promotion choices are kind of weird though, like you said, since regardless of the choice it can only become bishop or a sage. Maybe a troubadour/cleric trainee would better?

As for the dancer/manankete trainee, I can't think of anything. It's a strange, but interesting idea, though,

It shouldn't be myrmidon/thief, it should be myrmidon/mercenary. The reasoning behind this is that myrmidons and mercenaries are both classified as 'sword-bearing units', meaning they are weak against swordslayer. This would also give the trainee class more variety, as they can promotte into something that uses more than just swords.

For the thief class, I was thinking there'd have to be a couple of new classes invented. Like, maybe a class that can steal weapons in addition to regular items, but can't pick locks?

yeah the merc and myrm would be better, the theif with only weapon stealing abilities would be cool but it would have to be non equiped weapons since the only steal worthy weapons are equipped

Spy. You should add a spy class.

Hm, good point cotf...

Alright, I'm gonna make a list of all the (completed) ideas I have.

Myrmidon/Mercenary (uses swords, unmounted) [I was thinking of changing the Mercenary promotion so it doesn't get Ranger, but I'm not sure yet]
Pegasus/Wyvern (lances, flying, rides pegasus)
Cleric/Troubador (staff, unmounted)

Gee, there was a lot more when I was thinking about it earlier. The ones I'm still thinking about are...

Archer/Nomad (bows, unmounted) [this one bring in the nomad class. Nomad can promote to Ranger or Nomad Trooper, but I need to think of something special for Nomad Trooper]
Thief/??? (swords, thief skill, unmounted) [I've already talked about this, but what thieving skills should it start with? maybe just picking locks or just stealing?]
Dancer/Manakete (???, unmounted)
Monk/Priest (???, unmounted) [if it gets light then Priest is completely useless, so I wasn't sure about this]

iplaygc, if there's a spy class then what should it be able to do? I've thought about it before, and I've actually included it as a class for a game I had planned (via FE Factory/Tactices Heroes, as soon as it's finished), but I'm not really sure how to make it useful.

Hmmm...maybe it can be "invisible" for a few turns, steal stuff, and...maybe it can convert enemy units.

FE Factory/Tactics Heroes isn't complete yet, but here it is. It's pretty neat, I can't wait for it to be finished.

I made ones for every class a while ago:

priest/monk: Deacon: Light magic

pegasus/wyvern riders: Mounts: Wannabe riders who use lances. they have 6 move

Myrmidon/mercenary: Fencer: Swords (Theives should stay as theives. there's really no use in calling them spies, because they already do that)

Dancer and Manakete have nothing in common in FE, save for the FE7 Ninan and Nils >_>. Making them part of the same branch makes no sense at all. Not that they need trainee classes to begin with, as they'll max the stats that they need to >_>.

I have others... but I can't remember them :o

Well, Summoner and Mage Knight don't really have much in common either, but that didn't stop them from being in the same branch. I thought Dancer and Manakete would go pretty good together if for no other reason than they are both extremely unique. Neither can use weapons (the dragonstone doesn't qualify into any of the weapon categories), but both can be extremely useful. As for maxing the stats they need to, that could be adapted for the trainee class by lowering starting stats and growths. It might need a storyline-based promotion, though (if you get a dragonstone then they promote to manakete, if not they promote to dancer).

I had some more ideas about this the other day. First off, the thief trainee class.

The trainee can use a lockpick, but cannot steal (let's face it, you probably wouldn't have enough spd to steal anyway). Then you can promote to Thief or Spy (I like that idea, though I might decide to change it). Thief promotion gets redone, thief can now promote to Rogue or weapon thief (I haven't thought of a good name for it yet). The weapon thief can steal ANY unequipped item, including weapons, and can use lockpicks (but doesn't have the rogue's special ability). Promoting to Spy has SIGNIFICANTLY better promotion bonuses, which makes it better than Thief in battle, but cannot steal. Spy gets the old thief promotions, meaning Assassin (I thought it was more fitting, since there is a fine line between a spy and an assassin) and Rogue.

As for the monk/priest trainee, I think they should get light magic, and the Priest promotion gets SIGNIFICANTLY (I like capitalizing that) better promotion bonuses. Priest also gets a special new mounted light-magic class for males, which has rather better stat caps than most mounted units.

Then the archer/nomad trainee. I figure the archer should get better promotion bonuses, and Sniper gets a crit boost instead of some crummy Sure Shot skill. Nomdic Trooper can only use bows, but gets a skill (which I haven't thought of a name for). Basically, the Nomadic Trooper can ride through mountains (if I ever use these trainee classes for something, I'll set up so that NO non-flying mounted units can cross mountains except this one, promoted or not), and has less of a movement loss over other terrain than mounted units usually do. Maybe give it 9 move, too...

So, whaddaya think?
