Canadian-Korean Sandra Oh recently returned to alma mater National Theater Council last week to accept the prestigious Gascon-Thomas award 16 years after she graduated and set off to try professional acting. Yet asked how she felt about being an inspiration to aspiring actors, Oh paused and said she just doesn't think about it that way. "All I really think about is doing my work and doing it well," said Oh, who won a Golden Globe for her role in Sideways in 2004 plus a very popular role on the hit ABC medical series Grey's Anatomy. "But, yes, the opportunity to come back here and to think about my life ... that started at this school, and where I am now, has brought a tremendous amount of satisfaction." As for her Grey's role that brought her mainstream popularity, Oh likened it to "lightning in a bottle," but cautioned that it was also very "challenging." To cope with the stress accompanying the job, she said, "Lots of therapy." "I have a lot of really good friends and I just have learned how to take care of myself. How to take care of my mind, my body and my spirit." Friends, which in her case happen to be Grey's co-star Ellen Pompeo and Katherine Heigl, who just happen to both be new mommies. "Right now it's so interesting," Oh said. "Recently Ellen and Katie took a break from the show for a bit, to have their kids. We started out talking about shoes and purses and now it's all about diapers. It's nice to have grown with that."
