Last week we were taken for a ride in the crazy roller coaster of who will stay and who will go. We are still not in the clear. Izzie was the first to go. Will this STICK? Or will she return? How does this affect Alex? And what about all the others? At the end of the episode, we see the Mercy Westerns up on top of the stairs looking down at the Hospital. What is going through their minds? For sure, I bet they did not realize it was going to be this hard to be accepted… or if they will ever get accepted. We got to meet the fiery Red Hair (Reed), The one who acts like George but has a darker side (Charles), The one who has the mean tackle and gorgeous eyes (Jackson) and the one with a few secrets to hide in a Red Book (April). Will this week show us who can hang out with the BEST at Seattle Grey’s… or will we have to bare to lose another one of our own? My guess is that with a title like “I saw what I saw” – there will be a lot of different things going on. No doubt we are going to be up against another DRAMA Filled NIGHT. I am READY (even though I will not get to see this episode till 10pm… after my babysitting duties are over)… but I will see it and I will be back here later tonight or tomorrow morning to let you all know what I thought. I am hoping for some FUN… some ACTION and some Roller Coaster Excitement. Are you? |

I'm proud of myself, I realized as soon as I saw the initial examine who was going to be responsible for the patients' death. I enjoyed the episode, despite the lack of quality Mer or Der time. By the end of the episode the residents were actually working together. I'm almost glad that it was a MW resident who figured out and told the truth about the mistake made by another MW resident. I loved the Chief and Derek conversation at the end, Derek was so right that the hospital was total chaos since the merger. In essence the mistakes are on the Chief's head for making everyone fear for their jobs, and have to prove themselves with "good" surgeries to make the cut, rather than just be good doctors. |

Great intense episode. They did an awesome job in showing what chaos is all bout, it was just everywhere, from beginning then at the end it unravelled. Derek said it best! It was really too bad it was the girl who was nervous that got let go, why not charlie or the girl with the short hair, both are annoying! But ya that's right, we aren't suppose to like them. But it was all of their fault, because no one set a person to watch over the patient. And if I remember christina read off that the patient was allergic to something that lexie put on for the burn that mark told her to use, or is that something else? I think it was an awesome episode because it focused on the patients and medical issues rather than on the characters, yes we need that, but we have been out of the blue on the medical cases. It was intense. I can sense Alex will be mad for awhile, i hope Izzie doesn't come back, I think if anything she'll have less fans due to how she left Alex. I've never liked her, now I kinda detest her. And I can see the actress playing Arizona getting nominated at least for supporting actress, they did a great job in getting her great scenes with great speeches. |

I loved this episode because it was more like a medical drama than a tv drama. It reminded me of the very first episode, in their first hours as doctors. I miss Mer and Mer/Der scenes, but it's refreshing to have a switch from their personal issues to their lives as doctors. I started watching this show because of the medical theme, at first. In my opinion, it gets better with each episode. |

Did you all notice... all the same scrubs... no more ORANGE ones? I loved the episode and while I was watching it... I could see the things unraveling and I knew who would be to blame. Ok... maybe cuz of some the the spoilers but... I just knew that it would be April to leave. So it starts with the Chief and 2 board members wanting to know what happened to a patient. He said 'What happened to her was uncalled for" and it was. The person who hit it on the nail was Derek. In the end he told the Chief that ever since this merger (The Chiefs way) things have been in chaos and if we are going to get to the bottom of who is to blame... then we need to see that. I was smiling... cuz I was wondering how long it would take someone to say something about it. I mean the hospital was in serious downfall and now with this new merger and no one working together it is only WORSE. Poor Alex... I so agree that this situation he is in is only going to create FANS that hate Izzie for doing what she is to Alex. I mean I am trying to understand her point of view... she got fired... she is a recovering cancer patient... she is emotional... but hell what about ALEX? Some will say he knew what he was getting into but I care to differ... I truly did not think Izzie would just walk out and leave him to pick up the pieces. Owen and Cristina... Oh I think the troubles are getting even worse. They have not time for each other but yet... I doubt she will want any. He is completely not on her side at all. He says he is doing what is best for the hospital. Makes me wonder if he is hidding something else? He is soo cold to her... or maybe it is just me. Sloan is back... and looking handsome as ever. He did not really get much time either but... he was very cautious with Lexie... he was very caring. When he was telling her about the burn victim. At first I was wondering in my head if maybe she was preggers or something cuz I was not really sure why she was soo distraught about the patient.. but then she calmed down and she got herself back in there. I was very proud of her. Everyone was everywhere... the doctors were all very busy with multiple patients... and trying to help with everything. So all the doctors had different stories but yet some of them were credible... and did go together. I kind of was upset with Reed... I mean I re-watched it and to tell you the truth Reed had some help in distracting April... but yet.. April did make the mistake of not checking her air ways... she would have found the soot. And then everyone else would not have made the wrong decisions that caused her death. If anything was learned... it was when Cristina and Reed were talking and Cristina was making some comments and Reed was defending her friend... that she is a good doctor. And then the others come in and made their comments. Cristina piped in... by saying that could have been any of them. So... it could have been any of them... geez... Which leads me to believe that in the next episodes they will all start to learn to work together... and if one fails to do something then another one will step in... working as a TEAM and not against each other. If they want to save lives... they have to start saving each other as well. No couple really had couple time in this episode... it was full of emergency medical work. The only thing that we got is Izzie finally called Alex back and she is not coming back any time soon. And when Alex crushed his cell phone on the wall... I stood up and CHEERED!!! You go Alex... forget her... she is acting selfish and is not thinking about things correctly... forget her for now... concentrate on your career... (Ok I know its impossible but I hate seeing him this way). Bailey finally gives Mer her exit papers... she finally gets to go home and recover. Mer/Der... loved the last scene where Der (by the way loved his outfit... hubba hubba) was just soo down and Mer in her chipper voice "How did it go... tell me everything" and Der signs.... Poor Mer when she hears about the day. We got to see everyone doing their jobs... some with a little more attention than others... but over all I was happy with the outcome... I was glad it was not one of our own... but I have a feeling Alex is going to get talked to... the cell phone use doing working hours... and I can see the Chief is still sentimental but he can not be anymore... the board is on him. Bailey was all work... and she had no sympathy for Charles when he dropped the ax and fainted. Geez... what is in store next week... I mean will the Hospital get better or dig themselves deeper? I can see a little hope... but I also can see Der and The Chief may be at war. Or maybe the Chief will use Der's advice and do something about it. I can not wait for Der to be the Chief one day... I think he will make an excellent Chief but... he has soo much more to give as a surgeon that I can wait... even if its a long time. I am hoping Der will explore all his advantages before he steps into the Chiefs position. The Chief in my mind... is going to get better... Remember it has to get worse before it gets better... and I can see things are about at rock bottom... so it will have to come up sometime soon. So... Bring it on Next Week... I am sooo READY! Edit: At the end of the episode... I could not help but think - Why was the title not about I saw what I saw as in the old Gerogie line... but instead of McDreamy was doing the McNasty with McHottie? That McBastard... it could have been - "Saw McDreamy doing the McNasty with his McDirty ExMistress now Wife" Darn it... hee hee We always have next week. Edited by McDreaming, Oct 23 2009, 04:16 PM.

Other Reviews: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/10/greys-anatomy-whodunnit-and-more-importantly-whos-getting-fired.html 'Grey's Anatomy': Whodunit mystery rocks Seattle Grace October 23, 2009 | 1:39 am Thursday night's "Grey's Anatomy" episode was called "I Saw What I Saw," and I saw something that I haven't seen from "Grey's" in quite a while: promise. Usually I don't like episodes that feel really gimmicky, but tonight's film noir style of storytelling worked for me. Maybe it's because Halloween is coming, but I was digging the dark and stormy night and the Seattle Grace twist on the classic whodunit puzzle. The eerie feeling began from the very first second of the episode, with thunder crashing outside the hospital as a janitor mopped up a slough of blood from a dark trauma room, a bloody axe resting on a cart nearby. It's immediately clear that something has gone horribly wrong, and the Chief and his board are on a mission to find out who is to blame. I was initially skeptical of the whole concept. Do we really need yet another excuse to pit these docs against one another? The merger and subsequent firings have made "Grey's Anatomy" resemble a reality show. Who is getting kicked off the island this week? I complain about that every week, though. I'm sick of the doctors battling it out with each other, but I've resigned myself to the fact that the "Grey's" writers clearly love the competitive streak. As the doctors were interviewed, light was shed on what happened earlier in the day. All hell had broken loose when a hotel caught on fire, and the ER was flooded with trauma patients. Cathy Becker (Erinn Hayes) came in with her young son and was treated for burns, but somehow, the rest of her ailments fell through the cracks. I loved how we got bits and pieces of the night as each doctor described his or her experience from his or her own perspective. The Rashomon theme worked very well to build the tension and raise the stakes. Every single doctor says, "She wasn't my patient," and every single doctor genuinely believes that the tragedy was someone else's fault. Obviously, this can't be the case - but the point is, the doctors aren't lying. They just have different versions of the truth. As soon as Cathy wheezed, "Don't let my son see me die," and Lexie promised that she wouldn't die, I knew she was a goner. Haven't the Seattle Grace doctors figured out by now that every time they promise someone will live, that person ends up in the morgue? Ultimately we found out that Cathy died because her airways closed and her organs failed. But what about that ominous slasher-movie axe from the cold open? Well, the axe did indirectly cause Cathy's demise. April - the new Mercy Wester played by the amazing Sarah Drew - saw the axe sticking out of a man's chest, and was distracted from checking Cathy's throat. Had she done the entire examination, she would've seen the soot in Cathy's throat and could've easily prevented the tragedy. It's such a small mistake, a tiny human error the likes of which would've gone unnoticed if April had a desk job. But when you're a doctor, you can't make tiny human errors. You have to be superhuman; you have to be perfect. I was disappointed to see April fired; she was my favorite of the Mercy Westers. Plus, I got a kick out of seeing her interact with fellow "Everwood" alum Nora Zehetner (Reed). I'm glad Reed survived the episode. Of all the newbies, I'm most hoping that she sticks it out and joins the regular cast. Zehetner really holds her own against the more seasoned actors - even if she does look like she could use a sandwich or two. Of course, I wouldn't mind seeing more of Dr. Avery, but I'm pretty sure that's just because of Jesse Williams' killer blue eyes, not because the character is interesting. Can we get this guy a storyline, please? His little playground scuffles with Karev aren't particularly compelling. For me, the best moment of the episode was at the very end, when Derek and the Chief discussed the day's fallout. The Chief was so determined to find out who made the fatal error - the absent-minded screw-up that caused a young boy his mother - that he failed to look at the situation from a wider angle. "Maybe it's not one doctor [who is responsible]," Derek said. "Maybe it's too many doctors who don't know each other and who don't trust each other. When I got to that room, it was chaos, because that's the system now: chaos. That has been the system that's been in place since this merger. Your system. I'm saying you should look again at who is responsible." Preach it, McDreamy! The Chief needs to look to himself when he's looking for someone to blame. How can the hospital be strong when there are such clear cracks in its foundation? The Chief is the one who let the hospital falter, and now the doctors and nurses are the ones feeling the consequences, getting fired left and right. By the way, I adored the music on tonight's episode. The two most prominently featured songs were "Songs From Different Times" by Jack Savoretti and "Out of the Dark" by Matt Hires, in case you're wondering what to search for on iTunes. OK, let's discuss the episode in the comments below! Did you guys miss Izzie much? Did you, like me, agree with Derek's harsh reality check for the Chief? Do you think April deserved to get fired for accidentally skipping the throat exam? Who do you think is next on the chopping block? |

http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight/2009/10/greys-anatomy-chaos-a-mistake-tragedy.html 'Grey's Anatomy': Chaos + a mistake = tragedy By Lisa Todorovich October 22, 2009 11:48 PM Tonight's "Grey's Anatomy" was all about perspective -- what happened during the treatment of a patient who should have made it, from the point of view of every doctor who worked on her. And to drive the point home, the story unfolded through the "Rashomon"-like recollections of the entire team, colored by their panic, confusion, bewilderment, and fear. Compelling, if not exactly a crowd pleaser. Amid the chaos, however, one thing became perfectly clear: The Chief is utterly falling down on the job. More on that in a minute. Seattle Grace is hit with mass casualties from a hotel fire -- several burn victims, a chest wound (a guy with a fire ax sticking out of his chest) and a firefighter who fell from a ladder and sustained multiple injuries. But the central case is a woman named Kathy Becker, a young mom with a 5-year-old son who, despite some pretty serious burns on her leg and less serious burns on her chest, seems to be on her way to recovery. The problem is that there's no one doctor looking after her, and through the course of the night she's passed from pillar to post with no one overseeing her care. April and Reed, two of the Mercy West residents, conduct the initial exam of mother and son, and everything seems all right. Then Sloan and Lexie take over care of the second-degree burns on her leg. Then in comes a 16-year-old burn victim who's really in a bad way, and they have to attend to him -- though Lexie really wrestles with her emotions watching this kid suffer. Then Reed gets pulled away to help Callie with the firefighter, who seems to be in pretty bad shape. April gets distracted by the insane sight of a patient coming in with a fire ax sticking out of his chest -- a situation made worse when Charles, who gave blood that day, passes out and dislodges the ax, sending a huge spray of blood all over everything. Cristina orders some morphine to help Mrs. Becker, who's been complaining of pain. She ends up suffering from a collapsed lung, which Lexie, who had to leave her patient's room because she was so upset, tries to fix with a chest tube. Which she nearly screws up because she's distracted, and Avery helps her out by pounding Mrs. Becker's chest and relieving the pressure. The patient is stable, and for a minute we're distracted by Arizona yelling at Lexie to pull it together -- great stuff from Jessica Capshaw -- and Alex frantically trying to reach Izzie, who's been gone for a week, while having to stitch up the forehead cut of Charles, a.k.a. "Nosedive." Nice. Mrs. Becker's having awful trouble breathing, and Alex has to perform an emergency cricothyrotomy to be able to open her airway. Then she starts to slide, wiith high carbon monoxide levels and labs all over the place before she begins bleeding out. At this point pretty much every doctor is working on her -- Cristina, Alex, Charles, Avery, Reed, and April -- but they lose her. Then it hits Reed: In her initial examination of Mrs. Becker, April was distracted and skipped checking her airway. Had she done so, she would have found soot and would have intubated the patient right away. One simple mistake led to a horrible end. April gets fired, and even though all of the residents from both hospitals have been running around competitive and terrified, most of her Mercy West colleagues aren't exactly sympathetic. Cristina pulls a season one "that's one of us in there" moment and admonishes everyone, quite rightly saying that it could have been any of them, but their patients didn't die. patrickdempsey_greysanatomy_s6_290.jpgIn the end, though, Derek totally wins this episode by putting the blame for the mistake on whom it belongs: the Chief. Derek says he found the trauma room in chaos, with too many doctors who don't know each other and don't trust each other -- and that's the system that's been in place since the merger. The Chief needs to take another look at who's responsible, Derek says. Can I get an Amen? There's a legendary former editor of the Washington Post, Ben Bradlee, who was famous for running a newsroom fueled by "creative tension" -- pitting reporters against one another and letting them compete for stories. But it's one thing to run a newsroom that way; a hospital is a different story. No one dies if something's screwed up on the front page. We can only hope someone steps in and fixes this, because not only does it make for bad fake medicine, it's also not that interesting to watch over the long haul, even if it is true to life. Some other thoughts: * Lexie was brilliant tonight. Chyler Leigh gets better and better, and watching her try to cope with her emotions and an angry Arizona before pulling it together was great stuff. * I liked that for once Meredith was in the dark about the situation, waiting to be discharged to go home. It was a nice reminder that not everything happens downstairs. * And as annoying as the us-vs.-them thing is getting, I'm glad we're finally getting to know some of the Mercy West residents, since they're supposed to be able to help sustain our interest in the show over the long haul. * It was great to get back to the medicine for an episode, without too much personal life backstory (Alex trying to contact Izzie notwithstanding). What did you think? Did you find the storytelling an interesting departure from the norm, or was it jumbled and confusing for you? How long do you think it will take before Assistant Director Skinner -- I mean, Larry Jennings from the hospital board -- to finally take some action against the Chief? And how brilliant is the nickname "Nosedive"? |

Did this episode not remind everyone of s2 when the chief quesitoned all the residents about who cut Denny's L-VAD? Especially when Cris said "I'm not going down for this" cause I'm almost certain she said the same thing then too...and I loved Cris at the beginning saying "I'm putting myself in a timeout" I love Cris! She's so awesome when she's not all angsty and surgery crazy There's 1 Mercy Wester down and 3 to go! Next week looks intense! I can't wait!!!! |

http://www.buddytv.com/articles/greys-anatomy/greys-anatomy-i-saw-what-i-saw-32134.aspx Grey's Anatomy "I Saw What I Saw" Recap: Too Many Bleeping Doctors! Friday, October 23, 2009 Notice how good Grey's Anatomy gets when it focuses on the medicine and ignores people's drama? "Everyone was everywhere," Owen (Kevin McKidd) told the Chief (James Pickens, Jr.) last night on Grey's Anatomy. That, in a nutshell, is what happened to Seattle Grace following the so-called invasion last week. Everyone was competing for surgeries, trying to one-up each other, and essentially acting like dogs peeing to assert their territory. On "I Saw What I Saw", an otherwise routine burn patient died, and while the cause was quite explicit (bleeding due to multiple organ failure, I think), no one knew exactly what happened, no one knew how she went from point A to point B, from simple enough burn victim to a casualty. Why? Because she was passed on from one doctor to another with no one really taking charge to oversee everything. And when someone noticed, it was too late. In the midst of the chaos, the dozen hands trying to revive her, the droning lull of the sound of flat-lining, the message of the whole episode became clear - the case was the representative and ultimate result of all the squabbling, the ugly competition, the insensitive selfishness. And Derek (Patrick Dempsey) gave the chief the blinding flash of the obvious: there are simply too many doctors who don't know each other, who don't trust each other. And because of the merger, the chaos that characterized that fateful OR became systematized and maybe even encouraged a little bit. In the end, when the person who was fired was indeed fired (no spoilers please), my very first thought bubble was: will Grey's do a Survivor-like kind of thing to deal with the blatant overcrowding, eliminating one person after another until we have the toughest group? Otherwise, it was an awesome episode. Flashbacks are made of win, especially when you sort of know the ending, and everything feels like a gradual build-up to it. And what a gruesome, gruesome episode, too! Axes lodged on chests, exposed burnt skin being sliced, and throats being slit without so much as a hey. It's one of the more blood-, exposed skin-, and organs-laden episode we've seen in a while on Grey's, and while a medical show is not all about that, you kind of look for it. |

I really enjoyed the episode. I thought it was really well told. I loved the pov of each doctor. I felt for April but she did deserve to be let go. I liked the fact that we got a little inside of the MW's group. I know it has to be hard for them but they are going to get any smpathy. I really felt for Alex the whole episode. I can't wait till next week. PS: I loved Chyler and Jessica's performances. |

I loved this eppy. It was a really good concept to have everything told from different perspectives. I didn't know what had gone wrong, but it's true what Cris said at the end.. they all make mistakes every day... they are under such intense pressure.. but it's frightening to see what can happen with one tiny error. It took me til just now to watch the eppy, but it was worth the wait.
