Well I really, really loved it. It's starting to feel like the old Grey's again, even though we are missing a very special character. (RIP Georgie) I of course LOVED Alex and his comedic relief in this eppy. This was a pretty emotional episode and it really needed the light, airy comedy that he provided. I'm going to make sure I save the video clip of his scream for my own dark and twisty moments and watch it whenever I need a good laugh! Loved Mer! She has grown so much and continues to....I love seeing that. I really loved when she was pacing in the hallway thinking. And I loved even more that Derek knew she needed to figure this problem out on her own, so he let her and he stopped Christina from going to her. He truely knows and loves her. So cute! Oh and Mer and Lexie being sisterly, double Little worried about next weeks eppy and the lay offs. Gonna miss Mer...hope she won't be gone to to long. I wonder if they are still going to have her do the voice overs? Edited by McJen, Oct 9 2009, 08:19 AM.

Good episode. I laughed so much. Mer was so funny when she couldn't remember her sister's name I usually hate Lexie and I think she's very boring character but today she was great. More episodes like this I loved it!

Ya, i love the episode! So much emotions. Lexie was great! And meredith was awesome as usual. Totally can see her grown up and working with one issue that has always been hanging on, and glad it's on the mend. You can see her dilemma in either helping Thatcher out or not. I'm glad they finally brought it up instead of just fading away Thatcher for Meredith. And they did a bold move with showing a full body of mer while she was pregnant, guess wearing those doctor coat's come in handy! She's so cute and so glowing! Lexie, hmmm i'm not sure how i feel with the way she is into her dad, before she was mad and wanted to distance herself due to his drinking, then she was attatched when she introduced him to mark. but she did a great job, wanting to so bad save her dad without thinking of herself, but that's lexie, naive and so caring. it was sweet that mark had to tell her she had to talk to him about things lol. shows mark growing too. haha christina and her penis lol that was so funny! and her talk to the chief, priceless! love the little scene with bailey telling meredith she has to hang on, sniff. so funny with alex being so girly when it comes to camping, and his reaction to a tick lol... love how arizona shows callie a different perspective of things outside of callie's issues. they are a cute couple. and derek is mcdreamy! |

AMAZING!!!! I completely loved it... I have to say I was soo worked up about this episode that I did not want to take my eyes off the TV till it was over. I agree it is back to the old Grey's... the funny stuff and the amazing dramatic stuff... but most of all it all worked soo well together. They start the episode in such a funny situation: Alex and the bear... and him pleading with Izzie to please move back to Mer's. But Izzie's reasons were soo admiring... she wanted them to be on their own and she could not go backwards... not after everything she has gone through. Thatcher... you know I forgot some things about him until Mer and Lexie brought them all back up. The history of them... the hurt that Mer still had because of his abandonment... Poor Thatcher comes in vomiting blood and he finally had come clean with his drinking problem and 90 days sober... but his liver has gotten a beating. I loved his interaction with Lexie/Mer and especially the Chief. The chief knew what he was feeling cuz the Chief was an alcoholic too. Thatcher getting sympathy from the Chief was ironic but yet soo satisfying... cuz those two have to move forward. There is still soo much guilt left there. I loved when he told the Chief to take care of his girls.. that he owed him that. I was crying... So what happens? Lexie says she will be a donor but her blood does not match. Poor Mer is soo caught in the middle... that she walks out and confronts Cristina. Who I was freaked out that Cristina and Alex were the ones telling her she should help out. This through me for a loop. I was not expecting their approval. But... I was soo happy they did. Plus Lexie pleading to Mer... "I want my Dad back". And she admits she knows he was a bad father to Mer. I love their scenes together... and seeing Mer nodding... I knew she would do the right thing. Ok... Was Der not the Knight and Shiny Whatever? He was soo caring and always watching out for Mer but yet he knew Mer needed to do this on her own. When he pulled Cristina back... Gosh... Der gushes with love for Mer. Oh... and Mer looks soo beautiful I thought (She had that pregnancy glow... hee hee). So Mer helps... and we know she will need a month once she is out of the hospital for recovery. Mer ROCKED!!! You can see how strong she has gotten... she is truly amazing... She was fighting her old selfish ways and then we saw her change... all due to her love for Lexie. I about melted... I love the sister thingy they have going. Everyone is afraid for their jobs... and we see a wonderful scene with Callie and Arizona... Callie wants to ask for her job back but she always tends to procrastinate. Arizona wants her to just do it... and When Callie finally does... what happens? Callie ends up feeling sorry for the Chief and she asks if he is ok. Loved this moment... it needed to be done. The Chief ask her what she wanted and Callie starts to back away but yet the Chief tells her to go to HR and tell them she is an attending at Seattle Grace. I got up and said "Thank You Chief" and smiled soo BIG. Cristina... OMG... this woman is hilarious at times... Pleading and flirting with the Shadow Shepherd to get into a surgery? And then what does Owen, Mark, & Der do... they mislead her into a penal operation? hee hee Loved it... And what did Cristina do? She went with it... and did her best. But then she gets fed up... approaches the Chief and starts to rant about her not using her skills and that maybe he should cut her... Lexie/Mark... Mark gets possessive... and his talk with Lexie kind of reminded me of Alex/Izzie issue... in the end... Mark is there with Lexie and for Lexie. I think they are soo cute together. But something tells me that Mark is in store for a stronger Lexie and you can tell Mark is getting that itch... to make it more than gf relationship. When Mark was talking to the family about the penal operation... I admired him soo much cuz he completely made them do a turn around... heck they even brought the man's gf to the hospital. Owen/Izzie situation... well things kind of look iffy for Izzie... she pleaded with Owen to give the man another operation... like what they did for her... not giving up... and the man ends up dying. Owen is upset with his decision... and makes me think something may happen due to this. But I could be wrong. Izzie gets close to the patient and she helps him with tricks that helped her when she was in the hospital. Like the remote control not working... bang on something. She has a conversation with them about their relationship. Finds out they are not married. But Izzie finds out that he has a ring... wants to propose but he is waiting... does not want to leave her alone. When Izzie approaches the grieving woman... she tells her to look in his mouthguard... that she will want to look in there. It was very touching. But... do you think Izzie got ahead of herself? I mean the man would have had 2 more months... but Izzie wanted to give him more of a chance like she got. Owen summed it up... just cuz Izzie is a walking miracle...it does not mean it will ALWAYS happen. I loved the fact that we see the caring of each other... they all care... they are all like a family. When Mer is getting wheeled in... Der wanting to stay in with her. Then Lexie waiting at her bedside for her to wake up. Loved it all. They end it in the same way :So... Izzie gets up the start of another day... walks outside and screams... comes back in... and Alex smiles. I guess it is time to MOVE. hee hee I can not wait till next week... we got a BEAR this time around... what's next? I say Bring it ON!!! EDIT: I completely forgot Bailey... I love her... she was soo funny... I also loved her chat with Mer... Do not do any funny stuff. Edited by Dannie, Oct 9 2009, 10:31 PM.

http://blog.zap2it.com/ithappenedlastnight/2009/10/greys-anatomy-who-is-leaving.html 'Grey's Anatomy': Who is leaving? By Carrie Raisler October 8, 2009 8:02 PM Tonight's "Grey's Anatomy" was all about obligations to your family, your spouse and your patients. Oh, and did I mention there were bears? Because yeah. There were bears. Before we get into the resident drama, let's talk about our cases of the week. Case number one is Irving (Ralph Waite), who tells Mark he wants penile implant surgery for his erectile dysfunction because he hasn't had luck with pharmaceutical intervention and needs a little "lift" for his new girlfriend in the east wing of the nursing home. His son Charlie (the awesome Tom Amandes) thinks he's being ridiculous, considering surgery at 82 years old is pretty risky. No one does angry and incredulous like Tom Amandes, folks. Once Mark clears him for surgery, his son goes along with it but with one caveat -- if he gets the surgery, they're taking him out of the home and away from his lady friend. That's cold! Mark helps them see the light, however, and they even bring his girlfriend to see him after the surgery. Aw. Izzy's case this week is to help Owen with repeat abdominal sarcoma patient Randy (Jocko Sims), who needs surgery to remove a new tumor. Her experience with cancer gives her an immediate rapport with Randy, but things take a bad turn when they open him up and there is too much damage to even get to the new tumor. When Owen wants to send Randy home to die in peace, Izzy argues for his right to fight the cancer, whatever it takes and no matter how painful it may be. Randy opts for a new, risky surgery, but in the end there's just too much damage and he doesn't make it off the table. Izzy blames herself, but Owen takes the blame off her and sets it directly on his shoulders for allowing her to talk him into doing the surgery, and for not recognizing that she wasn't ready to handle this type of case. It was his obligation to look out for the patient, and he feels he failed. Now for our regulars! Alex's connection to obligation this week has to do with Izzy and his obligation to adapt to living with a wife who's living with cancer. His day starts as he rushes out of the trailer to find a bear in his front yard. Not just any bear, mind you, but a giant angry upright roaring bear. Stephen Colbert would not approve. Alex's very feminine (and hilarious) scream of panic says it all. Later at the hospital, Izzy tries to convince him that perhaps he saw a deer and not a bear. Because they look so much alike? I don't know. Alex's point? They have to move back in with Meredith and quit roughing it in the airstream lest he get devoured by a wild animal. Izzy isn't as keen, explaining that they can't move back to Meredith's house because she wants to move forward with her life now that she beat a death sentence, not backwards. Even Alex getting a neck tick doesn't dissuade her. It dissuades me from any late night snack I was considering, though, I'll tell you that. Yuck. Christina gets Alex to see that he has to give Izzy this one thing right now given all she's been through. In the end, Izzy runs into the same bear and agrees: they have to move. If they do, I'm sort of going to miss the trailer. The exterior set is fantastic. In merger news, the Mercy West team is about to arrive which means more cutbacks, more layoffs, and more characters for us to keep straight. This is terrible for me, since I still don't know any of the interns' names, and they've been on the show for a year. Oh, and it also means more scrambling from all involved for hours and the best procedures. Christina is especially frantic, considering she hasn't "cut" in a week. "Desperate for a procedure" Christina is really my least favorite Christina, so here's hoping this doesn't last too long. To teach her a bit of a lesson, she ends up with Mark's penile implant surgery. Having to do this "meaningless" little surgery affects her so much that she goes to the Chief and tells him to either use her skills or cut her. You know how Meredith has been happy and relatively drama-free thus far this season? Well, that's all about to change now that absentee father Thatcher (Jeff Perry) is back in her life, admitted to the ER in liver failure. Immediately, all she wants is for him not to need a liver transplant, because then he will be around the hospital (and by extension, her) for months. Come on, Meredith. Your father's illness, even if it was brought on by his former drinking problem, is not all about you. Shut up a little bit, 'kay? Especially since Thatcher can't get put on the transplant list until he's one year sober and he's only at 90 days. Lexie immediately offers to get tested to see if she's a match...and I think we all see where this storyline is going, don't we? Lexie isn't a match, and Meredith doesn't want to get tested. She seems convinced she would be happier if her father was dead, but I am skeptical. Lexie pulls Mere's medical records, sees they have the same blood type and begs her to donate part of her liver to Thatcher. Lovely little moment from Chyler Leigh, there. Meredith decides to donate, but Thatcher refuses to let her make the sacrifice. In the end, Meredith convinces him that she needs to save him not for him, but for Lexie, and then the door might be open for them to repair their relationship as well. It seems Meredith's obligation this week was to her sister, and that's a relationship that could really be explored in an interesting way, so bravo, show. The surgery goes off without a hitch, and Meredith and Lexie share a nice moment in her hospital room afterward. Callie is still struggling on how she's going to ask the Chief for her job back. She practices what she will say all episode, but in the end all she has to do is offhandedly recognize how difficult a position the Chief is in right now and he immediately restores her position at Seattle Grace without her even having to ask. I know we're supposed to feel sorry for him, but this entire situation was his idea. So suck it up, Chief. Random thoughts: * I'm a sucker for a girly man-scream, and Alex's screech upon seeing the bear certainly did not disappoint. Hee! * The scenes with Thatcher and Meredith and Thatcher and the Chief where he manned up to all his faults with regards to Meredith were really great. Jeff Price does a wonderful job in this role. * Despite my initial concern with Meredith getting the drama-filled story this week, it was pleasantly surprising to see it play out with minimal annoying emotional tics from Mere. She even smiled in the end! Also, clever way to get Ellen Pompeo out for her maternity leave, show. Favorite quotes: * "I heard you got married on a sticker. That's great." - Thatcher, to Meredith * "Let me tell you about the golden years, Doc. There's just got to be more to life than eating pudding and watching CSI. Now, come on, can you give an old man a working johnson?" - Irving * "I had five interns, four of you have been on this table. One of you had cancer, one of you died. You better not pull anything funny on me, Grey." - Bailey |

![]() http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/showtracker/2009/10/greys-anatomy-bears-bones-and-big-sad-eyes.html 'Grey's Anatomy': Bears, bones and big sad eyes October 9, 2009 | 7:09 am "Grey's Anatomy" episodes are always a careful balancing act. The poignant, emotional moments are always the most memorable, but the comic relief is also necessary to cut some of the tension. Thursday's episode, "Tainted Obligation," definitely had plenty of the latter. We kicked off with Alex heading out of the trailer he's sharing with Izzie... only to encounter a bear. Yes, a bear. A giant, lumbering, roaring bear, just hanging out outside the trailer. Alex's high-pitched, girly yowl of distress was the first laugh of the episode ... but certainly not the last. His panic attack upon discovering a tick on his neck was excellent too. Justin Chambers must have been relieved to have some more lighthearted fare to work with after Karev's difficult few months. Mark Sloan's patient of the week was Irving Waller (Ralph Waite), an elderly man interested in the AMS 700. While that may sound like a jet or a car or a gun, it's actually ... a penis pump. The 82-year-old Irving is determined to have sex for the first time since his wife died 20 years ago. As he says, "There's got to be more to life than eating pudding and watching 'CSI.'" (A not-so-subtle dig at "Grey's Anatomy's" biggest Thursday-night competitor.) His son Charlie (Tom Amandes) is less than enthused about the idea. Tom Amandes was brilliantly cast -- he adds a little extra awesome to every role he takes, but this one was especially perfect. Hearing him crow about his father's inappropriate affair with a younger woman was hysterical. I loved how the case brought out the softer side of Sloan (after all, he won't be McSteamy forever) while still showcasing his crude frat-boy sense of humor. Of course, it wasn't all penis jokes. Thatcher Grey, Meredith's and Lexie's alcoholic father, made a rather dramatic entrance to the emergency room, slurring and vomiting black blood. Of course, the doctors saw blood and they went into competition mode. Their "That's my surgery!" "No, that's MY surgery!" battles were childish last week. This week, they're not only childish but completely classless, considering that it's their friends' father that they're fighting over. Thatcher's diseased liver came as a surprise to no one, least of all Meredith. I was a little shocked by her matter-of-fact comment that she'd rather see him die than have him hanging around the hospital for ages, waiting for a liver transplant. When the Chief revealed that Thatcher was ineligible for the donor list because of his recent history of alcoholism, Lexie didn't hesitate to offer up part of her own liver to save her father's life. I knew that was too easy to be plausible! Lexie wasn't a match, but of course Meredith was. Meredith's continued insistence that she'd be happier if her father was dead made me roll my eyes. She's not shy about her "dead mommy issues," and I'm sure that if Thatcher died, too, the "I'm an orphan" issues would show up ready for a showdown.Sadeyes This episode served to highlight the differences between Meredith and Lexie. Lexie is a bleeding heart. As Meredith says, Lexie has "big, sad, I-love-my-daddy eyes," and she certainly knows how to use them! Chuyler Leigh nailed her speech where Lexie begged Meredith to donate part of her liver. I think it was Leigh's best performance to date - and, OK, I'll admit it: I cried a little. This show is overwrought and predictable even on its best days, but it has the occasional moment that just hands you your heart on a plate. I'd been wondering how they were going to explain away Ellen Pompeo's maternity leave. With her and Derek still in the throes of post-it-marital bliss, I doubted relationship troubles would send her away from Seattle. The chances of Meredith being a casualty of the merger were slim to none, since the Chief still carries around guilt for his affair with her mother. The liver donation story is a good, organic way to give Ellen her much-needed time off without affecting the show's pace too much. All in all, while this wasn't one of the series' best episodes by far, it was an improvement on last week's circus! Hopefully next week's episode will be even better. There were glimpses of the "Grey's" I know and love here -- but just not quite enough. --Carina MacKenzie (follow me on Twitter @cadlymack) |

Okay i have a list of all the things i loved in this episode and thats a lot cos i LOVED this episode! It reminded me so much of the old days.....i thought the seriousness was well balanced out with some funny moments in particular Alex's scream and Derk, Mark and Owen tricking Cristina into the penis surgery classic oh and the tick funny stuff! I love how much Mer has grown....never imagined in the early seasons that she would be open and have a relationship with Lexie when she came into the picture! And she even said that the surgery would open the door for her and Thatcher to get to know one another...i just love how Shonda has portrayed her growth and maturity! Loved Derek in this episode...he just keeps getting more perfect by the episode ha ha thanks Shonda! Loved how he left Mer to make her mind up for herself and stopped Cristina when she tried to intervene. Also at the end when he wouldnt back down when Dr Bailey said he couldnt be in the OR and he was like this is my wife you are cutting into....awwwwww makes me love him more ha ha! Chyler did such an amazing job in this episode....the emotion she brought to Lexie was spot on and that speech she made to Meredith had me welling up! Glad to see her getting her share of screen time. Jeff Perry was also fantstic....my fav bit was 'I heard you got married on a sticker, thats great!' ha ha only Shonda! Izzie and her dtermination to save a cancer patient made me real sad.....it was so hard to watch her seeing that man die. And then tellin his girlfriend to look in the mouthshield box so sad. Ok Mark was too sweet in this episode. His protectiveness over Lexie, him roping Cristina into the surgery and sticking up for his patient made me like him even more. I love seeing this new side to him. Other bits i liked: . Alex screaming like a girl . Alex and the tick . Cristina 'No i have a penis' and the look exchanged between her and Derek ha ha . Callie and Arizona and Arizona opening up to Callie about her scrubnurse . Mer and Lexie's relationship so unbelievably sweet especially the scene when Mer came in and said how much she loved having a sister and how she was doing this for her. And when Lexie slept with Mer in her room too cute! . Bailey telling Mer not to pull anything funny on her in the OR...love the caring side of Bailey Wow i guess i loved it then. Sorry for rambling on it just brought back good old Grey's memories. And i apologise to anyone who has just wasted their time reading my rant! Thank you and goodnight lol! |
