So I loved it yet again. I was disappointed with the baseball scene it wasn't long enough at all, but seeing Derek with his glove and all of them out of the hospital just having fun was a good change.I was in complete shock when the OB/GYN cut WAY TO DEEP and cut that little girls arm off! That was just WOAH!!!!!!!!! But thankfully Arizona and Mark were both able to reattach her arm. I loved how Lexie took care of Tom, I don't know if it was just because Psych is my area of study or if it was just that storyline in particular but it really got me, and I also have an uncle who is a paranoid schizophrenic so I was able to relate on some level. Lexie did amazing with him, talking to him and showing him that what he was hearing and thinking wasn't real and that the doctors are there to help. And then Bailey makeing herself bleed was a perfect way to show him she is real and not an alien out to get him. I loved the super cuteness of Mer/Der and Mark/Lex they are both soooooooo freakin' adorable!!!!!!!!!! I loved Alex and his overprotectiveness, he's just sooooo perfect for Iz I loved that Derek was the one comforting all the employees who were laid off, he's going to be an excellent cheif when the time comes! I loved Hunt telling Cristina that she needs to loosen up "This is a no" I loved Lex freaking out to Mark when she lost Tom "I'm not amazing yet" I loved Arizona telling Callie that she's not moving away I loved Derek standing up to the chief.....now the chief just needs to grow a pair and start talking to his staff and let them know what's going on. |

First things first: Alex in his black wife beater with a very nice tan.....YES!! So very, very YES!!!!! I liked this episode better then last weeks. It had a lot more uplifting, laugh out loud moments. Which is exactly what I needed to see Grey's have. It seems like it's been so long that I actually laughed during this show. As much as I have always been a fan of Alex and Izzie, Izzie did kinda annoy me this week...have to admit. Her wig was hilarious though. I liked when she finally dropped the act, took off the wig and gave into the fact that she is a cancer patient and George did die. I liked Christina and Owen's interaction. He is so different from Burke. He doesn't try to beat around the bush with her...he's blunt with her and tells it like it is. I'm starting to like them more and more. And I loved the "You're comparing this to the Holocaust?"....Yes, I'm allowed to. I'm Jewish." Callie and Arizona are really freakin' cute. I loved Arizona's uncertainty with whether or not they are girlfriends. And then see her entire face light up when Callie said they were, like it was the most obvious answer around. Chief is getting on my nerves. Still not sure about this merger, but it's going to lead to some interesting story lines, that's for sure. Did you guys notice that the OB that cut too deep was the same girl from season 1 who misdiagnosed that baby's heart murmer? Thought that was interesting... Mer and Derek were cute in the hall when Mer was all bright and shiny and Der looked at her like an alien. I'd like to see a little more of them and how they are handling "married life" but I understand that it will be a while because they are still trying to hide a preggo belly. I really would like them to start getting into what the other residents want to specialize in. We've known Christina is cardio forever, what about everyone else?!?!? The baseball scene was kinda random, it was like they just threw it in but it was ok. I did find it a little odd that George was only mentioned twice I think. I know in Grey's time it's been like 2 months (?), but still...thought he would be mentioned a little more. All in all, GREAT eppy! P.S. - This is JC in a wife beater, for those who have no idea what that is.

i love the baseball game at the end, derek and hunt trying to get their women happy, and think about life other than their jobs. Hunt has work with christina, she's hard to loosen up when she's always got her job on her mind. It was endearing to see alex tell izzie while they were in the trailer that she needs to take care of herself, how often does someone pamper iz? it's usually her being the mother hen. and the wig, wow,she was embarrased and she tried to fib and joke around, and to do it during surgery. i thought it was too soon to bringing her in, gee she was close to death and dealing with cancer still but i get it, she wants to do what she wants with her life rather than put her life on hold. all i thought thru the show was confusion and chaos with the budget and cutting people. i dont' like the intern who worried about his wife being pregnant, how many times does he have to mention that? ellen is so glowing! it's good to see her being the supporter while others need their time to shine on the spotlight. the chief, where has he been? he seems more into secrets than ever before, he thinks he can handle this. i agree, they should start focusing on what they specialize in. one thing that the show is lacking is consistent of the story line, such as alex was going to go into neonatal like Addy, what happened to that/ next week should really be good, cant' wait. i've always wanted to see where meredith and her father would go... |

i agree. i'm loving the Callie and Arizona scenes. i hope we see more of Callie after the merger. maybe one of the reasons Arizona was uncertain is because they don't see one another as much as they used to because they work at diffeent hospitals. the chief is not acting like a chief should - imo- |

I have to say... this episode left me smiling... Yep... I thought it was amazing... and there was soo much going on but yet it all clicked. I have to say... I can not STOP watching the parts with Mer/Der... do you see the way Der looks into Mer's face... he just stares at her... like he is devouring every facial movement. Geez... Callie and Arizona are an OFFICIAL couple... YES!!! Cuz they are soo good for each other... they both have spunk and Arizona played such an amazing role last night. She is an AWESOME doctor... she loves what she is doing... and you can tell. She reminds me of my son's doctor... very attentive and very caring. She is soo real like. Callie had to make her realize that Cristina was just using her... how funny was that? Was Mr. Bear not the cutest thing ever? We had to rewind it over and over again to see Cristina Say 'Yes I do". hee hee Everyone is soo worried about their jobs... and it seems like the only ones not really concerned are Der, Mark & Owen... at least that is what I gathered. Der was worried for the others... he wanted the Chief to talk to them... communicate. The Chief was doing it his way. Stern and in his own way. Geez... If I got cut through an e-mail... I would be PISSED! What a slap in the face. Poor Nurse Olivia... seven years... and then cut. OUCH! But I guess this is the Chief way to make it less personal and get everyone to see the Hospital as a place of business where you leave your personal life outside your work life. Looks like things are getting structured differently and I am guessing it is only because of the past mistakes. I am sure the Chief has his reasons for doing things his way. Der... loved his arguments with the Chief. Der is completely involved in almost everyone's lives... you can tell. You can see an almost vulnerable feeling going through his facial expressions. Der & Mark... Mark still being the friend he has always been to Der. Warning him not to make any rash mistakes in speaking to the Chief. Mark/Lexie... poor Lexie she is soo scared... and in the end I also thought she was cut... but she was crying cuz she was SAVED. Lexie truly has come to life this last season and looks like she is going to be a very strong character this season. I really want this couple to work out. Mark already can read her... he knows exactly how Lexie is feeling especially when she dropped the blood. Cristina is hilarious... She is just being herself... trying to find a way to save her career and helping Arizona... and then trying to get Owen to talk to the Chief. Alex and Izzie... Oh poor Izzie that wig was just not her... in my eyes. She is trying hard to stay in the game... and when she finally took that wig off... I started to feel her pain. Alex is being soo darn nurturing... he is finally able to take care of someone like the way he always felt guilty about not being able to take care of his Mom, Ava, etc.... He is being the arrogant but yet yielding husband. I actually loved him tonight... and that is rare cuz sometimes he makes me soo mad. But I know its just his attitude. Alex is a strong and aggressive character. I melted when he made her take her meds and the banana and water... what a man! Bailey... I think I loved the moment she realized that Lexie had a good idea. At first she just looks soo put out about Lexie's rambling... but then she sparked up. Ok... the Mom with her son... WOW... I tell you when Bailey was telling the son about her child and she would do what his Mom was doing (putting him first) I was thinking the same thing. I know even though my life would be at danger... I would constantly keep thinking about my son first. All parents do this... but then again... it makes us think. We have to think about raising our children with options... What happens if we are not there? We have to not shelter them and make sure we allow our kids the opportunity to live if we are gone. I felt soo bad for that Mother. We NEVER stop to think about that... The scene with Lexie and Mark... she is looking for the son. It was soo funny... Mark's face and then Lexie getting after him... telling her to calm down and him getting her to focus on the matter. Aw... I loved it. There were soo many funny scenes and soo many dramatic scenes... the one with the baby... WOW... showed that Yes people make mistakes but yet... it showed just how AWESOME SLOAN is. He is an important doctor and not just a silicone man. He totally rocked when he fixed the babies arm. So YES... I loved it... am I over George being gone... NOPE NEVER!!! But I will be here till the very end. Bring it on Shondaland... LG ready! |

I really liked this episode. In the first two episodes IMO there was too much setting up the new season mixed in with wrapping up last season. I hate the way the Chief is handling things, I really don't believe that Derek ever intended to try to take the job away. I'm looking forward to next week's episode. I think that Ellen will definitely make me cry. |

I loved Steve saying "I'm having a baby, well not me my wife, Intern Megan" I laughed so hard! At first I was like what they're married!?!?! then it was just hilarious because of how he told Derek who she was. I just lost it with that one |

yep... Intern Steve reminds me of the old George... when he said that... so lost and yet funny. hee hee An Article about the episode: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33128902/ns/entertainment-television/ Layoffs stress out the staff on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ First round of cuts announced, as Izzie nervously returns to work COMMENTARY By Linda Holmes msnbc.com contributor updated 9:29 p.m. CT, Thurs., Oct . 1, 2009 Hard times: The merger with Mercy West had everyone in a tizzy. They were particularly upset because the Chief wasn't telling anyone anything about what it would mean for their jobs, leading Derek to come to his office to complain. Meredith, on the other hand, continued to take the position that everything would be fine, and there was nothing to worry about. In the end, our major characters all survived the first round of cuts, and tried to relax with a late-night baseball game. Kids today: Cristina, thrown off Bailey's service last week, found herself even more desperate for a new position. She looked for cover with Arizona in pediatrics, but battled her dislike of children. When working with kids began to look like the wrong way to go, Cristina was ready to give up. Just then, she learned that Arizona was operating on a tiny baby whose arm was nearly removed during a C-section. Of course, helping repair the tiny baby arm using an umbilical cord artery was enough to bring Cristina around – but by then, Arizona wasn't interested, having concluded that Cristina was just in it to keep her job. Wigging out: Also looking to rally in her career was Izzie, who showed up at the hospital in her new wig, ready to work. When the surgery she was working on with Derek got complicated, Alex went to try to pull her out, sure she didn't have the stamina for an hours-long surgery. Alex brought her medicine to her in the OR, but Derek pulled her from the operation when she got all sweaty. It turned out she just needed to lose the wig and embrace her fuzzy hair, but Alex told her later that she needs to take better care of herself, since he can't promise he'll be able to provide care for her full-time. Joint operations: An accident victim came in accompanied by her adult son, a paranoid schizophrenic, who told the doctors that a large, pulsing mass in his mother's abdomen was the result of impregnation by aliens. She struggled to manage his behavior while Bailey diagnosed an abdominal aortic aneurysm that urgently needed surgery. The mother wouldn't go forward with the surgery, though, because there would be no one to care for her son while she was out of commission. Lexie was responsible for the son, who noticed her lack of a nametag and attacked, believing she was the enemy. He then disappeared, only to reappear by tumbling down the main stairs. Lexie later comforted him by providing him with evidence that the hospital had not inserted a camera into his stomach during his ultrasound, as he feared. She then came up with the idea of operating on the son, even though he didn't necessarily need it, because his mother would be able to stay with him. And together, he and his mother went into surgery. Edited by McDreaming, Oct 2 2009, 05:55 PM.

I liked this eppy better. I know they didn't mention George much, but to be honest, it's better than the haphazard way they dealt with it last week. I'd rather they all moved on and left him behind - so to speak.. cuz I don't like how they dealt with him dying.. I'd rather they not mention him.. So, it was more enjoyable this week... and had some funny moments too

http://www.greysanatomyinsider.com/2009/10/the-writers-perspective-on-last-night/ Joan Rater on "(I Always Feel Like) Somebody's Watchin' Me"... Original Airdate: 10-1-09 Hi and WELCOME TO SEASON SIX! Kind of amazing if you think about it. It’s amazing to me, at least. I’ve never had the same job for this long. In TV, there’s a lot of hopping from show to show, a new job every year, so the fact that Tony and I haven’t hopped for awhile, we’ve gotten to spend 5 years with the same characters (on screen and off), has been such a great experience. So Yay! We had this conference at the end of last year, all the writers, where Shonda asked us to imagine what we wanted Season Six to look like. We were all given the task of thinking, dreaming, imagining what we wanted for our show, our characters. We all had to present our ideas, and because it’s Shonda, there were prizes. For originality, for best ideas, for most interesting presentation, and because there was this sort of formal presentation-like quality to it, it became kind of scary. But once everyone finished complaining and procrastinating and avoiding and stuff, people came up with some really amazing presentations. There was a puppet show. Songs were written. There were etch-a-sketch art drawings of operations. What I decided to do for my presentation was go be a resident for a day. So I got a trauma surgeon at County Hospital to agree to let me follow him around for 24 hours. Oh my God, people! I got to go into an OR. Blood was splattered! It was awesome! Anyway, I’m sharing this with you to tell you that Season Six is going to be awesome. People came up with some amazing ideas. There was passion. There was humor. There was nudity! Not really. Actually that was a rule. Shonda said no nudity and no live animals. But we were all inspired and stuff. Which was Shonda’s point. To inspire us. And so along the lines of inspiration… I’d like to use this blog to share with you some of the things that inspired me during the writing of this episode. If that sounds really boring to you, I apologize, I’ll try to make it interesting and, as a little prize for reading the blog, I will reveal a secret about myself at the very end. Something I have never told a soul. But you have to keep reading… After Richard dropped the bomb that the hospital would be merging with Mercy West, we knew that this episode would have to deal with people’s paranoia. Because merger means change. And change means fear. And the worst kind of fear is the kind that lives in your head. The dark thoughts. The paranoia. The worst case scenarios that you play out that usually don’t come true. And with Richard holing himself up inside his office, it’s just a breeding ground for rumor, fear and paranoia. So, when we started talking about this episode, the theme of paranoia emerged pretty quickly. And right away I thought of doing a medical story about a paranoid schizophrenic. And my inspiration for the story of Tom and Jodie came from a kid I knew growing up named Jon. I babysat for him. His mom, Barbara and my mom are friends. We went on vacations with their family. And he grew up and became a paranoid schizophrenic. My mom recently told me a story that when Jon (who’s now 30) needs a haircut, Barbara is unavailable all day for golf or bridge because she never knows how long it will take for Jon to find a barber shop he’s okay with. She has to drive from barbershop to barbershop, waiting for him to get a ‘good feeling’ about one. It might happen right away, it might take all day. And she’s patient and kind and she just does it because she’s his mother. I was really moved when my mom told me this story because I know these people and I know how painful this has been for her but how she just handles it, with dignity and humor. I can just picture the scene in the car as she pulls up to yet another one, “Well, Jon?” I can totally see her trying to talk him into giving one a try. And I can see him wanting to do it, to please her, but ultimately being too afraid and telling her they have to try another one. I can just picture the front seat of that car, so full of love and disappointment and fear as they negotiate this very mundane thing that for them has become anything but mundane. Then the story became what it became, with Tom choking Lexie, and falling down the stairs creating a real dilemma for Jodie. And the idea of Bailey pricking her finger to show Tom that she’s human, she’s a mother and she’s a doctor and she’s human, that idea came from Krista, but the original inspiration was the complicated love that I’ve witnessed between these family friends. So we knew what our main medical story was going to be and we decided that we wanted everyone in the hospital, the doctors, nurses, techs, everyone, to be scared. Scared to leave the hospital, scared to give up any edge. Just scared. No one is safe and that kind of infection running through the hospital is easy to relate to. In the Writer’s Room there are a few of us who operate in a perpetual state of paranoia, so on the one hand it was easy to write that stuff and fun to tell funny stories about our crazy thoughts. But here’s the thing about crazy thoughts - sometimes they aren’t crazy. Case in point – here is an email I wrote to the writers in July telling them about a crazy, paranoid night I spent worrying about my cat - “ Last night I woke up at 4 am and remembered that at about 2 am I had heard some weird cat meowing, like a cat dying, and I suddenly realized that our cat was dead. I knew, just KNEW that the sound I heard was Fern being killed by a coyote. Now, Fern spends every night outside and then at EXACTLY 5 am she appears at the porch door outside our bedroom and meows to be let in. But last night I knew that Fern would not appear on schedule because I just knew she was dead. Oh, because not only had I heard the weird cat meowing at 2, but there had also been some weird dog barking at about 10 pm that in my 4 am head meant a coyote had been stalking the neighborhood earlier and had settled on my house to wait patiently outside of until the perfect opportunity to kill my cat arose. At 4 am this is what I knew had happened FOR SURE. So what did I do? I woke Tony and told him the cat was dead. I went downstairs and began googling how to help your children deal with a dead pet advice. I googled the sound that a cat being killed by a coyote makes. I considered not telling Sally and hoping she'd never notice, I prayed, I went outside (at 4 am!) and looked for (blood?) evidence, I thought about what a perfect cat she had been. I blamed myself for not being more vigilant about keeping the cat in at night. I let myself off the hook because I, told myself, Fern loved being outside at night and who was I to deny her her animal urges, I decided that I would tell my kids some version of "Fern lived a great life, a cat life, and as part of a cat's life there is danger, the circle of life, etc", I decided I'd tell the kids Fern got cancer and we put her to sleep, I decided we'd never get another cat. I decided we'd get 2 kittens right away. I decided to get another dog. And then at 5 am, on the dot … Fern came to the door outside our bedroom and meowed to be let in.” We laughed about my craziness in the writer’s room the next day and then guess what happened a MONTH later?!!! The cat disappeared. For good. I don’t mean to make everyone all sad with the story of my dead cat, I’m just saying, sometimes you are just being paranoid and sometimes you aren’t, so what are you supposed to do? Be like Lexie and live you life in that kind of heightened fearful state? No, you have to keep going, walk the dog, eat dinner, live … you have to find a way to stop living in fear … Especially if you’re a surgeon … you need to be able to put your fear aside … Which is why I loved the scene where Owen, Derek and Mark take Cristina, Meredith and Lexie to the baseball field. This is one of the first times Owen has seen Cristina’s intensity. And I love that he makes her leave the hospital, focus on something else. That’s why he’s so good for her. The scene was actually inspired by Shonda saying, let’s do a scene where they’re all playing baseball. But when I finally saw it, it makes me want to write more scenes like that, with our doctors outside of the hospital, little glimpses of them in real life. One of my favorite Grey’s moments of all time was this Season One scene where Meredith and Cristina are outside jogging and they stop and they’re laying in the grass and they decide they need to cry. And they’re like, “Now? Should we cry right now?” Or something like that. Anyway, I love those little glimpses of our people as “real” people. Back to the inspiration … Izzie’s story was very much inspired by my friend Lynn, who has cancer and runs her own company. A big concern for her while she gets treated is making sure her employees have confidence in her and don’t see her as sick or weak. She told me that that went into her decision to get a really good wig which looks just like her hair did before chemo. It’s to put her clients and employees at ease. We live in Los Angeles and it gets really hot here and Lynn has said there are some days where she just looks at that wig and it’s the last thing she wants to put on, but she does. And, like Izzie, who used this as an opportunity to ‘try being a redhead”, Lynn also got a spikey short ‘weekend’ wig to try out a more fun hairstyle. Although, at home on the weekend, she usually goes wigless, her daughter prefers it and says she likes the peachfuzz. I love that scene where Alex brings Izzie her 2 pm pill and a banana and water. She doesn’t want Alex to hover but he can’t help it, he loves her and that’s what you do for someone you love, especially when they’re trying to pretend they’re fine. And I love it when he tells her at the end that she can’t pretend she isn’t sick, that she needs to take responsibility for her illness and he can’t be her nurse. One thing we’ve talked about in the Writer’s Room a lot is the fact that we have these two married couples right now – Izzie and Alex, and Meredith and Derek, who had very different weddings, for very different reasons and we really want to explore what the idea of commitment means for them this season. When we were writing the episode we realized that it didn’t seem right that Meredith would be paranoid, which is when we came up with the idea that because of her chaotic childhood, she gets calm in a crisis. It’s when she’s at her best. It’s what makes her a great doctor, makes her the glue that holds all her friends together, and it’s what Derek needs right now because whatever it is that’s going on with him and the Chief looks like it’s going to get worse before it gets better … And finally … the inspiration for the funny Cristina stuff with the kids came from my daughter, Sally. Every night when I get home she hides and I have to find her. But whenever I get close, she yells out orders from her hiding place, “You haven’t looked in the kitchen”, “try upstairs”, and then when I finally find her, she gets upset. She HATES being found! And therefore I HATE HIDE AND SEEK. Look at that, big things are happening people, secrets are being revealed this season, even in blogs! I’m telling you, Season Six is going to be good! |

Another cool article: http://www.buzzsugar.com/5376467 Grey's Anatomy Rundown, "I Always Feel Like Somebody's Watchin' Me" Fri, 10/02/2009 - 7:00am by BuzzSugar This week on Grey's Anatomy, the doctors are (mostly) done grieving for George and have moved on to the newest preoccupation: the merger. With their jobs on the line, everyone can't get enough hospital time in as they fight off paranoia in the midst of a new batch of patients. * Each of the doctors has his/her own way of reacting to the merger. Derek and Mark seem to be the only ones who are keeping their cool. Though Meredith also kept it together, her optimism is so out of character that it can only be chalked up to the crisis, and even she recognizes it. * Christina has never had an ego problem, but she's suddenly worried that none of the doctors "has her back." She decides to suck up to Arizona and head to peds, where she couldn't be more out of place. Her Mr. Bear voice was priceless. * Izzie tries to pretend that everything's fine, showing off a new wig and heading back to work so she won't get fired. (Sadly, we already know how this one ends). Alex tries to micro-manage Izzie and her illness, which at first seemed super annoying but was pretty sweet by the end of the episode. * Lexie is the most panicky of the bunch, talking a mile a minute and landing face down in blood. She proves her worth in the end by suggesting side-by-side surgeries for a paranoid schizophrenic and his overprotective mother. The parallel between the paranoia of the doctors and the paranoid schizophrenic was obvious to say the least. I have to admit though, his mother's "growth" could totally pass for an alien baby. * Speaking of babies, how awful is the doctor who nearly slices off a newborn's arm? I love that Arizona kept everyone together and saved her. * The Chief hides out in his office until the end of the episode, where he makes a round of layoffs via email. Among the goners are 3/4 of the interns and the syphilis nurse. * Yay for Arizona standing up for herself at the end of the episode. Not only does she give Christina a piece of her mind for using her, but she orders Callie to try to get her old job back. Love it. * In the end, Izzie realizes that she's still battling cancer and still healing from George's death. I'm happy she and Alex ended on a sweet note instead of a sour one, but it won't be long before she loses her job. What did you think of this week's episode? Did you think schizophrenic Tom was going to wreak more havoc than he did? Did any of the main doctors deserve to get the boot? |

it wasn't long enough at all, but seeing Derek with his glove and all of them out of the hospital just having fun was a good change.
