For one, Mer (Ellen Pompeo) is still out of commission, supposedly recovering from the liver transplant operation for daddy not-so-dearest. He'll even be doing the voiceover! Can you already imagine it? But won't we miss Meredith's sultry words of wisdom? Some spoilers under the cut. The episode of Grey's itself is Derek-centric. The patient of the week, sort of, is one of their own, lab-tech Isaac who has an inoperable tumor surrounding his spine. Most of the Seattle Grace doctors are (perhaps wrongly) happy about the tumor. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) even calls it "the great white of tumors" (like the shark) and it's for tumors like these that she went into medicine. She said whoever can successfully remove something like it can successfully retire, and it would been the landmark of his or her career. Unfortunately, the chief (James Pickens, Jr.) has other things in mind. The two have really been bickering a lot lately, and the Chief doesn't want Derek to go anywhere near the tumor because it is largely inoperable. But we know how stubborn Derek can be, and from the looks of things, he'll try to still proceed with the operation with the Chief's permission. That being said, if things go wrong (and they can), I'm pretty sure it's goodbye Derek; on the other hand, if things go right and the operation is successful, he'd have one over the chief. So on this Chief-Derek showdown, which side are on? And on this to operate or not to operate conundrum which side are you leaning to? Post your comments below! |

You hear the commentator say "All New Thursday" shows Der looking at xrays and thinking hard... the chief says something... and you hear Bailey say "This is Dangerous!" and the commentator says "Some things you can not walk away from" and it shows Der scrubbing in for surgery... and then the Chief yelling at Der" You are not operating on an inoperable tumor".. Then it shows Der with his arms crossed... and then we see a flash back to Der sleeping but not really... he is thinking... You hear "Is there something possible" and shows Der talking to the patient and the patient says "they call me inspired"... you hear Der saying "I scheduled this surgery"... Sloan tells Der "You gone rouge"... the commentator says "A surgeons career could end"... then we see them operating... and the Chief walks in and says "Close him up right now". And then you hear In ONE... Sloan says "its cracked" and Cristina is saying "OMG OMG" and you see Cristina on the phone with Mer... and Mer says "Cristina!" and then you see them working on the patient and Cristina still on the phone and says "Oh No!" On Regis and Kelly today, Patrick said this episode was based on an actual case. They had the doctor that performed the surgery on set during filiming to talk to about the procedure. I can't wait. I hope we get a little of Meredith supporting Derek and telling him she believes in him. I'm still on the fence about the Chief, it seems like he is playing it a little to safe right now. |

At least that's what can be readily inferred from the title - "Give Peace a Chance" - and the lack of bickering from the preview clips. Yet with Mer (Ellen Pompeo) out of commission because she's recovering from surgery (on-screen) and bonding with new baby (off-screen) the spotlight is cast on her hubby Derek (Patrick Dempsey). News has it that McDreamy is even taking over voice-over duties for this episode. But the real star of the show is an inoperable tumor surrounding the spine of Seattle Grace lab-tech Isaac. Everyone is frazzled and excited over the blasted thing, with Bailey (Chandra Wilson) even calling it "the great white of tumors" and the reason why she got into medicine. The chief (James, Pickens, Jr.), however, is not too pleased with the hullabaloo because he thinks the tumor is inoperable. In the end, Derek must decide whether or not to forego the chief's orders and push with the operation. The risks are high, understandably, because if Isaac dies, he wouldn't have only lost a patient, he would've done so without permission from the chief. On the last episode of Grey's Anatomy, there was a sort of a whodunit on Seattle Grace, when an otherwise safe patient died because of neglect from one of the doctors. Everyone was interviewed one by one by the Chief and someone from the hospital board to get into the bottom of it. So thanks to everyone's recollection, piece by piece, what happened was reconstructed from different people's points of view. In the end, it turned out that Mercy Wester April (Sarah Drew) was the culprit, because she was mildly distracted during the first stage of examining the patient. She was fired.
