She manages to get out of the hospital without seeing Derek it is completly tipping down with rain as she rushes across the parking lot getting into her car she bursts into tears resting her head on the steering wheel.

Derek rushes across the car-park and pulls open her door.

Derek-Meredith.

Meredith-Derek.

Derek-Can we talk.

Meredith-Why.

Derek-Meredith please what is going on here.

Meredith-Nothing is going on.

Derek-Meredith just be honest tell me what you want from me we need to talk.

Meredith-No.

Derek pulls her out of the car and they both stand in the pouring rain.

Derek-Meredith please.

Meredith-I have to go i have to go.

Derek-Do we have a future your here Meredith your right here in front of me & i can't i want to touch you i want to kiss you i want my wife i want to hold you in my arms i can't deal with this walking on eggshells pretending we are ok as friends.

Meredith-Derek i.

Derek-Tell me you don't love me.

Meredith looks over Derek's shoulder & see's Rachel & Mark stood staring at her Rachel has tears streaming down her face Mark comforting her.

Derek-Meredith please just tell me tell me what is happening between us.

Meredith-Derek you don't want me you can't i'm dark & twisty you have Rachel she is everything you are.
Be with her be happy you can see Belle whenever you want.

Derek-Meredith your lying i can see in your eyes your lying.

Meredith-No no i maybe no we should get a divorce we should do it right.

Derek-Divorce are you serious.

Meredith nods and Derek is so angry he just he is heartbroken anger pulsing through his whole body.

Derek-I loved you i wanted you everything about you i loved when i married you i wanted you everything i wanted 100 years with you.
You left me Meredith took away everything iv'e wanted.
I sometimes i sometimes wish if maybe when you let yourself drown if you wanted to die if i should of let you let you drown you would be happy i would be happy.

Meredith-You'd rather i was dead.

Derek-No i i never meant it that i just since that day you changed you i just maybe you wanted to die.

Meredith-Maybe maybe you should of i have to i have to go.

She climbs into her car and starts the engine and pulls out of the parking lot her mind is everywhere but where it should be and she runs a stop sign in her distress & all she can hear next is shattering glass and crunching metal as her car spins out of control.
Derek is walking across the hospital floor 30 minutes later his briefcase in one hand and his cell in the other.
He is really stressed angry and upset after his run in with Meredith then a row with Rachel he just wants to go home and drink large quanties of scotch.

Lexi-Dr Sheperd.

Derek-Dr Sloan.

Lexi-Derek are you headed home.

Derek-Yeah why what's up.

Lexi-Mark got called into surgery & i don't want to wait around for ages can i um grab a lift with you.

Derek-Yeah sure of course you can.

They walk out of the hospital & Derek starts the car.

Lexi-Did you see Meredith earlier.

Derek-Yeah she uh walked in on Me & Rachel & ran off i chased after her & we um we had a huge row & it was bad.

Lexi-Oh.

Derek-You knew she was coming to see me.

Lexi-Kinda yeah.

Derek-A heads up would of been great Lex.

Lexi-Sorry but i didn't think the Chief of the hospital would be having sex with his girlfriend in his office.

Derek-We weren't having sex & Mark told me exactly how baby number 2 was concieved so don't give me that crap.

Lexi blushes as they hit a road block the police stopping traffic.

Lexi-Do you think it's an accident.

Derek-Looks that way & Lexi we weren't having sex it was just whatever it was it wasn't sex.

Lexi-Derek what do you want to happen.

Derek-With what.

Lexi-Meredith is back your wife is back you still love her.

Derek-What.

Lexi-You still love her.

Derek-Lex please don't.

Lexi-If she still loves you.

Derek-It makes no difference does it she left me 12yrs ago i love her of course i do i told her that today i told her i wanted her all of her & she told me she wanted a divorce.
She ran today we said some really horrible things or i said some really horrible things to her she ran Lexi i can't do this to myself anymore sometimes maybe it i think back to Elliott bay & ask myself if maybe she really meant to do it if that was what she really wanted.

Lexi-No Derek no don't say that did you say that to her.

Derek-No yes i yes but i.

Lexi-How could you say that to her Derek how could you.

Lexi gets out of the car slamming the door Derek bangs his head on the steering whell but gets out of the car he isn't going to be responsible for Lexi if she hurts herself especially her being 7 months pregnant.

Derek-Lexi wait.

Lexi-No how could you do that Derek tell Meredith that.

Derek-I didn't mean to i just it came out i was angry i'm hurting.

Lexi-You think Meredith isn't.

Lexi is now stood in front of the police cordon.

Cop-Sorry Sir & Mam can you please take a step back.

Derek-What's the hold-up.

Cop-Serious RTA.

Derek-Is it bad.

Lexi-Nice way to change the subject.

Derek-We are both doctor's from Seattle Grace is there anything we can do to help.

Cop-Doctor's you say.

Derek & Lexi both show their ID's.

Derek-Maybe we can help.

Cop-The paramedics are already there but yeah i guess you can help.

Derek-What happened.

Cop-Female driver apparently ran a stop sign SUV heading in the opposite direction couldn't stop smashed right into the car.
Driver of the 2nd vehicle has already been taken to Mercy West with superficial injuries.

Paramedic-Doc what you doing here.

Derek-Ali we were stuck in traffic thought we could help what are the injuries.

Ali-We attended the scene woman possibly late 30's hit from side by on-coming vehicle firebrigade are with her now trying to cut her out.
She is slipping in & consciousness she has a query fractured pelvis shoulder & her hand looks broken.
Superficial cuts to her body & face but she has a nasty head lac which would be your speciaility Doc.

Lexi-Is that her bag.

Ali-Yeah her ID is in here drivers licence.

Derek-Do we have a name.

Ali-Yeah i believe so it's uh Meredith Sheperd.

Lexi-What.

Derek snatches the ID from Ali & see's Meredith's picture he rushes past them & straight to the car.

Derek-Meredith.

Lexi-Meredith Mer is it her Derek is it my sister.

The firemen pull a limp body from the wreckage and Lexi screams and runs towards them Derek just stands in complete shock not able to move or even think.

Lexi-Derek it's my sister it's my sister.

Lexi-DEREK DEREK.

Derek looks at Lexi & at Meredith as they take her into the ambulance.

Ali-Doc you ok.

Lexi-It's his wife my sister Derek please snap out of it.

Derek just can't move he can't do anything as Lexi cries out for him he just stumbles back to his car.

Ali-Miss we have to go Mercy West are expecting us.

Lexi-No no please she has to go to Grace take her to Grace.

Ali nods & they drive off.

Back at Grace.

Mark-Hunt i was going home what is it.

Cristina-I don't know i was just told to be here.

The ambulance pulls into the bay & Lexi stumbles out.

Mark-Lexi babe what happened.

Lexi-It's not me it's not it's Meredith Mark help her you have to she's my sister.

Cristina-Meredith what happened.

The paramedics help Cristina as she rushes inside.

Mark-Babe.

Lexi-MARK I'M OK please she's my sister please help her.

Mark leaves Lexi & rushes off.
Derek pulls up outside the hospital & walks inside towards the ER & finds Lexi pacing the floor tears spilling down her face.

Derek-Lex.

Lexi-It's your fault all your fault.

Derek-I is she ok is she alive.

Lexi-I don't know Mark is there i called you i needed you.

Derek-Shock i was in shock seeing her body limp like that it was i was back in Elliot bay.

Lexi-This is your fault you said you'd rather she had drowned this is your fault.

Derek nods his head and puts his head in his hands sliding down the doorframe his cell starts ringing in his pocket Belle's Id on the screen.

Derek-Lexi it's Belle i don't i what do i say.

Lexi-Tell her that you put her mom in hosital.

Derek-Lexi that's not fair.

Lexi-It's your fault i'm blaming you.

The phone stops ringing & Derek sighs putting his head in his hands.

Mark-Lex.

Lexi-Is she ok.

Mark-Derek they need you to look at her scans.

Derek-She's not awake.

Mark-No.

Derek nods and heads through the doors.

Lexi-Why isn't she waking up.

Mark-Lexi you need to calm down your pregnant and the stress isn't good for the baby.

Lexi-Shut-up Mark i'm ok the baby is ok i need to go and collect Belle.

Mark-Lexi.

Lexi-Can you go & get Belle please just don't tell her what has happened just bring her to the hospital.

Mark-I'm not leaving you in this state.

Lexi-Mark please just please.

Mark nods and walks off.
Derek is stood in front of the screen looking at CT scan.

Cristina-Head Trauma.

Derek-Yes it's a swelling on her brain i'm going to keep her sedated i hope the swelling will go down if not i just.

Cristina-Are you ok.

Derek-It's my fault it's all my fault we were arguing i said things and it's my fault.

Cristina-Derek if it's bad when we bring her round if she needs surgery there's only 2 people in the world that i'd let near her one is lying here and the other is stood next to me.
You need to keep it together.

Derek nods and runs his hand across Meredith's cheek.

Cristina-What's the damage risk looking at the worst case scenerio.

Derek-I don't know Cris it's to early i don't know how hard she hit her head what hit her head i just i don't know.

Cristina-I next of kin the form has to be signed to allow medical treatment.

Derek-Crap i um i take it it would be Belle 12 years i guess it's Belle.

The nurse hands the forms to Cristina.

Cristina-No it's you.

Derek-Me.

Cristina-Derek should you be on her case i know i said but can you do this.

Derek-She's Meredith i have to i have to keep this together.

Derek's pager beeps at his hip.

Derek-It's Belle i have to go stay with her don't leave her alone i want her moved to ICU the private rooms.

Cristina nods as Derek walks to reception.

Mark-Belle just wait for you dad babe please.

Belle-What's going on.

Belle turns around and see's Derek's face so many thought's running through her head at once as she scans his face.

Ok so my Dad is ok maybe Auntie Lexi has gone into labour but then no Uncle Mark wouldn't of picked me up.
I guess oh no no it's nah my Mom is fine she's fine she's ok.

Derek-Belle.

Belle-Where's my Mom.

Derek-Belle Mom was in a car accident she hit her head & is unconscious at the moment.

Belle-Mom.

Derek-Belle baby it's ok.

Belle-Where is she where's Mom where's my Mom.

Derek wraps his arm around Belle as they walk along the hall towards the elevator he can't help but notice how Belle is so much like her Mom as she stands twirling the strap on her watch round & round.
They enter the ICU & Belle stops at the door seeing her Mom hooked up to machine's & Cristina stood by the bed checking her vitals.

Belle-Mommy.

Derek-Babe i'm sorry i'm right here.

Belle walks towards Meredith's bed & grips her hand leaning down & kissing her head.

Belle-Auntie Cris she will wake up right she will be ok.

Cristina-We hope so babe we really do.

Derek-I'm keeping her sedated babe she has swelling on her brain it's just a precaution.

Belle-Can she hear me.

Derek-It's possible yes.

Belle leans down & whispers into her Mom's ear & she smiles before pulling a chair towards the bed.
Derek looks at Cristina who nods & he walks down the hall he gets around the corner & completly breaks down sliding down the wall as Mark approaches him.

Mark-Derek.

Derek-It's my fault it's all my fault.

Mark-No it's not.

Derek-Lexi thinks so.

Mark-Lexi is hormonal Derek Meredith is a fighter she will be fine.

Derek-I don't know that the swelling is bad what if keeping her sedated doesn't work i can't cut her i can't do that i just i can't.

Mark-I can call Nelson down.

Derek-No No No no-one is touching Meredith but me i can't but if i have to i will to save her life to make her ok i will.

Mark-Derek i'm right here.

Derek-You don't even like Meredith you hate her why are you even here.

Mark-I guess i screwed up i was angry i didn't mean to say the things i said i just remember the pain you went through.

Derek-Too late you said them she heard them.

Mark-You still want her still love her after everything she did what she put you through.

Derek-She is my soulmate Mark the second she walked into my life she was it for me we had our troubles and i know she left me but she loves me.
None of us not even me truly knew what she has been through her whole life.
Mark Ellis terrified us just being our tutor imagine being someone's mother we didn't even know Ellis had a daughter until the Chief told us who Meredith was related too.

Mark-Belle needs you Derek.

Derek nods as Mark helps him up from the floor they walk back towards Meredith's room together.
