Posts: 184 Group: Interns Member #33 Joined: August 3, 2008 Favorite Character Meredith & Derek Miranda Bailey Favorite Couple Edward & Bella Meredith & Derek	Hey guys So this idea came to me today while i was stuck in an unbelievably boring and stuffy board meeting. It begins very angsty and dark but will get lighter and it's Mer/Der as always. Ok so i hope you join me for yet another story Meredith and Derek finally got married on what turned out to be the worst day of her life it was the day after she gave away her perfect white dress big church wedding to Izzie and Alex. She and Derek exchanged their vows dressed in their scrubs in the hospital chapel with only Bailey Richard and Cristina in attendance although it wasn't the big poofy dresses flowers and a church wedding it was everything Meredith wanted everything Meredith is. The day started as any other Meredith waking up in Derek's arms a feeling she was certain she would never tire of finding herself in. They arrived at the hospital together and when the had the chance headed to the chapel to exchange their vows and Meredith became Dr Meredith Sheperd. They were paged during the ceremony and had to have the rushed version of the vows before exchanging rings and heading to the pit to find choas a John Doe had been bought in after being hit by a bus he had serious injuries and was unable to talk. Although Meredith couldn't figure it out she had a strange feeling a connection with this patient and she did what she could to help him to not let him feel any of the pain she was sure he was in. She left John-Doe and went to see Izzie who was so ill and battling so hard to live to remember who her friends were and who Alex was. She sat with a very weak and barely awake Izzie and told her about John-Doe the connection she felt towards him and about how she had got married she told Izzie how being Derek's wife made her feel whole and wanted and loved. She was paged and gently kissed Izzie's head promising to come back and see her later as she got up to leave Izzie weakly squeezed her hand and gave a little smile Meredith smiled in return and headed down the hall. Meredith attended to John-Doe who was trying to communicate with her trying in desperation to write symbols on her hand Meredith wasn't sure what they meant but she stopped and watched feeling his fingers make certain numbers on her palm she watched and wrote the numbers down and screamed so loudly that Derek and Owen stopped in the corridor. Derek ran to his wife's side as she screamed out that George was John Doe that George her family her best friend was John-Doe. They rushed into help George everyone was screaming orders and Meredith felt like she was floating like she wasn't really there she is aware of her pager beeping at her hip it was a 911 to Izzie's room she looked at Derek and he nooded and promised to look after George she ran down the hallway to find Alex holding Izzie's hand Cristina Richard and Bailey just stood by the door Meredith looked at them and whispered that John-Doe was George at that second Izzie flatlined her heart monitor screamed out so loudly in Meredith's ears she felt like she was floating as Alex screamed at Izzie to fight as Cristina Richard and Bailey struggled to save Izzie's life to save her family her best friend. Meredith was vagely aware of Richard calling time of death and Alex collapsing onto the floor Cristina who her very self never showed emotion walking to him and sobbing with him. Richard looked up at Meredith and she just left the room walked along the corridor towards George's room where she found Derek and Owen screaming instructions at interns and nurses as George flatlined. Meredith stood and watched Derek watched his lips as they called time of death and she turned away and walked down the hall and she fell she let herself fall let the blackness consume her as she hit the floor. Meredith knew she should open her eyes but she just couldn't she couldn't open her eyes and reassure Derek reassure her husband that she was ok she could hear in his voice how scared he was how he was begging her to wake up but she couldn't open her eyes if she opened them she had to face the fact face that Isobel Sevens and George O'Malley her 2 best friends her family were dead. She was vagely aware of Derek's voice asking a nurse if she was certain the results were right she heard the nurse assure him they were right and she felt Derek squeeze her hand heard him asking her to wake up that she had to wake up for him but she felt safe here she heard Derek whisper words in her ear 3 words whispered in her ear and her heart raced and the machine she was attached to started beeping and Derek telling her to open her eyes and look at him. Meredith felt the blackness disapear and the brightness of the room sting her eyes as she blinked them open and she saw Derek saw him looking at her a slight smile on his lips. The 3 words were spinning in her head he had said them and he was smiling Derek was smiling on the darkest day in Meredith's life her new husband sat before her and was smiling. Meredith still felt like she was floating as she left the hospital with a dazed Alex they sat together on the back seat Meredith holding Alex's hand as Derek drove the car to their home to her home where Izzie's clothes still were, where all her cooking stuff would still be spread out on the kitchen unit. Alex walked up the stairs but he just couldn't step into the bedroom he stood by the door unable to step over the threshold of Izzie's bedroom door he felt Meredith's head rest on his shoulder as the tears fell both their tears as they both fall to the floor crying. Derek stands silently watching from their bedroom this was their moment he couldn't interfer. He could see the huge black cloud of darkness that was engulfing Meredith but in all this they had a silver lining his wife of just a few hours his wife who he adored was carrying his child. The days pass in a blur of crying emotional outbursts from Alex and Meredith, Meredith struggling so hard to deal with her grief even as she attended Izzie's funeral on the tuesday and George's on the thursday it still didn't sink in still didn't sink in that she would never taste Izzie's muffins or hear her singing to something completly random on the stereo or hear George talking or moaning about his crappy apartment. Derek tries he tries so hard to help her to deal with her grief to pull her out of the black hole but Meredith pushes him away she tells him she is fine and refuses his help in dealing with it she does what she does best and buries it deep inside puts on a fake smile and faces her friends her colleagues at the hospital as they congratulate her on her pregnancy she still feels like she is floating. Cristina is like her tells everyone she is fine yet they are friends and each know eachother's feelings yet can't bring themselves to talk about Izzie and George they tell eachother they are fine and just move on with their lives and their jobs. As the time passes Meredith's bump is getting bigger her baby a new life growing inside of her. Meredith is told she is having a girl and Derek is ectastic he can't hide his happiness at the thought of becoming a father Meredith tries she tries so hard to share in his happiness but she can't she just feels detached from herself. It's made even worse when Alex drops out of the hospital programme and decides to leave Seattle completly. Meredith begs him to stay tells him she is there for him and is his family but Alex is broken and he can't stay Meredith watches from the porch swing as Alex takes her car and drives out of her street. Derek returns that night to find Meredith curled up in their bed curled up crying huge heartfelt sobs that shake her whole body he lies beside her and pulls her into his arms and tries to comfort her the best he can. He is scared for himself for Meredith for the state of his marriage he is so lonely scared and happy so many emotions carried around in one person he feels like he isdrowing and is struggling to stay above the water. Feeling his baby girl kick out against his hand warms his heart he can't wait until she is here but then he looks at his wife his broken wife and his heart breaks because he just can't fix her. Time passes and Meredith's waters break in the middle of the night and she calls out to Derek and they rush to the hospital her labour is hard she is tired so tired but after nearly 48hours this tiny bundle is placed under her shirt skin to skin and Meredith she hears her daughter's cries she feels the instant connection and need to protect her daughter. They leave the hospital and in a tribute to her friends Meredith insist's on calling their daughter Isobel-Georgie Sheperd. Derek is completly against the idea of Isobel and Georgie he doesn't want his daughter his bright and shiny new daughter associated with such a dark time in Meredith's life but she refuses to break and Derek gives in on the condition that she her name isn't shortened to Izz or Izzie and they compromise on a nickname of Belle. Meredith tries so hard to get over her grief tries to get over Alex leaving tries to be a good mother to Belle she tries to be the wife Derek wants but like her heart her marriage has fallen to pieces. Derek begs her to seek counselling he asks Cristina Bailey Richard to talk to her but she insists she is fine and she is dealing. Their marriage is almost at breaking point Derek is sick of the one word answers from Meredith he is in hell and is pretty sure Meredith was and still is there. As she refuses help he can't force the issue he like Meredith buries his fears and they just co-exist barely talking barely touching in bed every-night Meredith lies with her back against him her shoulders sagging and shaking ever so slightly he knows she is crying he tries to help but she won't let him. He finally reaches breaking point one evening after a horrible day at the hospital. Belle is a little over 5 months old and he arrives home sad lonely he just wants his wife he wants Meredith told hold him and tell him it wasn't his fault he lost 2 patients but she can't help him or won't help him and he snaps he snaps and yells at her telling her that she is depressed that she needs help that he is taking her to see Dr Wyatt. Meredith screamed back at him that she wouldn't go that she was fine and they had the worst row they had ever had and it ended with Meredith asking him to move out. Derek was shocked to his core she was asking him to leave his wife the woman he adored was ending their marriage and asking him to leave he refused told her he wasn't leaving their daughter but she was free to leave if she wanted too. Meredith took their daughter and went upstairs he headed up a while later to find their bedroom door locked over the following week he found himself sleeping on the sofa and his wife ignoring him. He returns the following night to find the house quiet and in darkness he knows something is so wrong as he climbs the stairs and finds Belle's clothes gone Meredith's clothes and passport missing he falls onto the bed picking up an envelope he opens it reading Meredith's handwriting and the tears fall over the paper as he reads the words over and over Meredith has left him she ran away and has taken his daughter. Lexi is in pieces to discover that her sister has taken Belle and left but Derek is convienced she knows where Meredith is but she assures him she hasn't the faintest idea she tells him she had no idea things between them were so bad. Mark is shocked and sad for his friend his broken brother his broken brother who has lost his wife and his daughter. Cristina is beyond pissed and devestated with Meredith for running away but she again tells Derek she doesn't know where she is. Derek tries to track Meredith down and he eventully finds her in Boston He and Lexi fly out and he begs his wife he begs her to come home that they can fix it that they can make their marriage work but Meredith refuses she tells him she can't she has to stay away from Seattle. Derek tells her he will move to Boston he will go wherever she is but Meredith breaks his heart by insisting she doesn't love him he knows deep down she is lying he can see in her beautiful fierce green eyes that she is lying that she loves him but he is tired, tired of fighting and returns to Seattle alone. He sees Belle once a month he flies down to Boston and spends the weekend with his daughter every visit breaking his heart a little more at the way she has changed over the month at the feeling of being in the same house as the love of his life and not being able to kiss her touch her or just breathe her in. Meredith drops a bombshell on him that she has been offered a new job and will be moving from Boston to LA. Derek is a broken man as he makes the decision to stop seeing Meredith and his daughter it hurts him it breaks him but he knows for his own sanity he has to do this. Meredith sends photo's birthday cards father's day cards but they stop eventully as the years pass. Derek thinks of his daughter every day and knows when she is older and ready she will come and find him and he will tell her how much he loves her and he will be part of her life once again. He tries so hard to hate Meredith to hate her for breaking him but he can't he loves her and a part of him although he wishes that part would go away he understands her understands why she ran away. So here we are to the present day which is set 11 years later. Derek is now the Chief of Seattle Grace and has been for the last 5 years he has had a few girlfriends and is currently seeing a fellow Doctor but he is still married still married to Meredith and even after all these years still wears his wedding ring. His office filled with what pictures he has of Belle and a picture still on his desk the day He and Meredith married in the hospital chapel in their scrubs. TBC

Belle-I love my mom but she just annoys me so much so i dyed my hair it's not like it's bad thing. Annie-It was purple. Belle-More a dark red i just wanted a change. Annie-It's a drastic change it clashed with your blue eyes. Belle-Yeah i know but i can't believe she forced me to have it stripped out my hair looks all frizzy and argh. Annie-She tries her best babe i know she's absent alot but she adores you and it's she's your mom. Belle-I know she does and i love her i love my mom but i just hate being alone all the time and after this she is going to hate me. Annie-Your doing the right thing for yourself anyway. Belle-Does your dad know are you sure he's none the wiser. Annie-He doesn't know he thinks he is doing your mom a favour and your mom thinks your at mine it's covered. Belle-Ok that's my boarding call. Annie-You sure your ok flying on your own. Belle-Ann iv'e flown all over the world with my Mom i'll be fine. Annie-Yeah but you are on your own. Belle-I will call as soon as i land promise. Annie hugs Belle as she walks to the departures gate she takes a deep breath and hands over her ticket and walks towards the plane. Belle sits in her seat and digs out a selection of photo's that she took from her Mom's room she looks at a picture of her Dad Auntie Lexi Cristina Mark and Izzie and George. Meredith talks to Belle all the time about her family but she refuses to go to Seattle saying she hurt to many people. But Belle she wants to know her dad she misses him and she wants to know about his life so for the past 2 weeks behind Meredith's back she has been plotting this weekend. She stole her Mom's credit card and charged the plane ticket to her account she know her Mom never checks her statement and she surfed the internet for Derek she found out he is now the Chief of Seattle Grace she read all these articles her father has been published for and she feels so proud of him and is desperate to meet him desperate to just see him. Hours later she arrives at Seattle Airport and calls Annie telling her she has landed and she hails a cab and asks to be taken to Seattle Grace. It's dark and late by the time they arrive she didn't really think about the different time zones before she planned this weekend. She takes a deep breath as she walks through the big glass doors towards the nurse's reception. Nurse-Hi Sweetie you look a little lost. Belle-Um i'm i um is Dr Sheperd still here. Nurse-Yes he's just in surgery can i help. Belle-Um no it's ok can i wait for him. Nurse-Sure his office 5th floor last room down the hall you can't miss it. Belle nods and walks towards the elevator the doors open and she steps in as it moves one floor the doors open and Mark walks in with a very pregnant Lexi Belle stands watching as Mark gently rubs her back as she moans slightly. Lexi-That is so nice. Mark-Ha you told me this morning you hated me touching you. Lexi-I was irritated this morning i'm ok now. Mark laughs as he kisses Lexi and they leave the lift it stops again on the 5th floor and she walks along the hallway finding Derek's office his nam in big gold letters on the door. She knocks gently but gets no reply and she pushes open the door and steps in. She see's her baby pictures on his wall as she walks towards them the smile on her face is huge atleast he still remembers her she feels her phone vibrate in her pocket and see's her Mom's ID. Belle-Hi Mom. Meredith-Are you ok did you get to Annie's ok. Belle-Yeah i'm here just about to shower and watch a movie. Meredith-Ok baby i love you and i'll talk to you tomorrow. Belle-Love you too Mom are you working all this weekend. Meredith-Yes baby i'm sorry but i have the next 2 weeks off just for you no work at all. Belle-Really. Meredith-Yes i thought we could just pack a bag and go anywhere just us. Belle-Yeah Mom that will be so good. Meredith-Oh baby that's my pager be safe talk to you soon. Belle-Be safe Mom love you. Belle shuts her phone a the guilt starts to niggle away she flops down in Derek's big leather chair and she notices a pucture frame buried under so much paper-work she smiles as she pulls it out she knew her Mom said they did but to actually see it amazes her to see her psrents on their wedding day getting married in scrubs. She hears a voice outside the door and her heart leaps as the door opens and a woman with long dark hair and glasses walks in. Woman-What are you doing in here. Belle-Um i'm um i'm waiting for Dr Sheperd. Woman-You broke into this office. Belle-No no um no i never. Woman-I'm calling security. Belle looks at the woman and bursts into tears as she dials a number the dooe opens again and Derek walks in Belle's breathe hitches in her throat and she feels dizzy as she looks at Derek. Derek-Rachel what's going on. Rachel-This girl she broke into your office caught her red handed going through your stuff. Belle-No i wasn't i just i. Belle bursts into tears again as the emotion at Derek being here bubbles over and she can't stop the tears as she looks at the floor. Derek-Sweetheart why did you break into my office. Belle-The door was open. Rachel-Derek don't show sympathy she broke in. Derek-Yes i know that but their must be a reason. The door opens and two security guards walk in. Rachel-This young girl broke into Dr Sheerd's office i caught her rifling through his things. Belle-No no i wasn't please i wasn't. Rachel-I caught you red handed. Belle looks up Derek. Belle-Daddy please it's me Belle. Derek stares at her and he just he see's his baby girl he see's Meredith Belle is pulled out of the chair so fast and into Derek's arms it takes a minute for her lungs to let her breathe out. Belle-Hi Daddy. Derek-Hi Baby. Derek puts her back into the chair and wipes her tears with his hand and he kisses her head. Derek-Look at you my baby girl. Belle-Not much of a baby anymore. Derek-Yeah i can see that look at you. Belle-I'm 13 now. Derek-Yeah i know you look so much like your Mom. Belle-I have your eyes. Derek-Yeah i can they are beautiful. Belle giggles as Rachel huffs loudly behind them. Rachel-You have a daughter. Derek-Guys it's ok you can leave now. The guards nod and leave the room. Derek-Rachel meet my 13 yr old daughter Isobel-Georgie Sheperd. Rachel-You have a kid you never mentioned a daughter you never talked about a daughter. Derek-Um you know maybe you could leave i have to cancel tonight i just this is important. Rachel-Fine it's yeah fine. Rachel leaves the room and Derek turns to face Beele who has tears streaming down her face. Derek-Belle what's wrong. Belle-You don't talk about me not ever. Derek-Oh Belle of course i do i talk about you i think about you all the time but only to the people who are important to me. Belle smiles as Derek hugs her. Derek-Belle i mean i'm so so happy your here but how did you is your Mom here. Belle-Um not exactly. Derek-She does know your here. Belle-Um nope. Derek-Belle you came here alone. Belle-Yes um Mom she's back hom in NY she thinks i'm at my friends house for the weekend. Derek-Oh babe you have to call her she will freak out when she finds out. Belle-Dad please i just 2 days Mom think's i'm at Annie's for 2 days can't i just spend them with you then you can call Mom you can call and tell her what iv'e done. Derek-Ok 2 days then i'm calling your Mom. Belle smiles and throws herself in Derek's arms. Derek-Let's get out of here kid. TBC

Derek-So school are you doing ok. Belle-Yeah really good straight A's so far. Derek-Babe that is really good do where do you live. Belle-New York. Derek nods and smiles at Belle. Derek-Any idea on your future. Belle-I don't really know Me and Mom talk alot about it she is happy with whatever i decide to do as long as i'm happy. Derek-That's good. Belle-Um is that woman Rachel your girlfriend. Derek-Um yes babe she is. Belle-Ok are we there yet. Derek-Nearly you will be the first to try out my guest room. Belle-Don't you live at Mom's house. Derek-No babe not anymore it's still there everything the same but i moved out i had a house built. Belle-Wow you built the house on the cliff. Derek-The house on the cliff. Belle-Mom she told me about the night she built the house of candles. Derek-Oh. Belle-Um sorry. Derek pulls into the drive and Belle gasps at the house it is the prettiest house she has ever seen. Belle-Wow it's um wow Dad. Derek laughs as they climb out of the car and they head into the house. Meanwhile Mark is stood at the bar waiting for Lexi's food yet another of her weird food cravings that Joe is only to happy to help with. Joe-All done Mark. Mark-It looks disguisting Joe. Joe-Tell Lexi it's exactly how she likes it. Mark laughs and grabs the food before walking towards the door bumping into Rachel. Mark-Hey i thought you and Derek had a date tonight. Rachel-Me to but he cancelled on me as his kid showed up. Mark-His what. Rachel-His kid Isobel-Georgie Sheperd or Belle he's never even mentioned her before i mean i saw the pictures in his office i just assumed it was one of his nieces. Mark-Your telling me Belle Sheperd is in Seattle she is with Derek right now. Rachel-Yes i just said that. Mark-Is Meredith with him. Rachel-Who's Meredith. Mark-Sorry i gotta go Rachel. Mark grabs the food and heads out to the car. Lexi-Oh i love you thank-you actually i love Joe. Mark-Babe we have to go to Derek's. Lexi-Why i have to pick up Dax from Dad's what's wrong. Mark-Rachel was in the bar she said Derek cancelled their date tonight because his daughter showed up. Lexi-Belle she's here. Mark-Yes. Lexi-Belle is in Seattle is Mer here. Mark-Rachel didn't know i don't think she's here call your dad babe. Lexi dials on her cell as Mark drives off he has atleat a hours drive to Derek's he just has to see this and see Belle and make sure Derek is ok. Back at the house. Belle bounds down the stairs in her Pj's. Derek-Feel better. Belle-Yeah that shower was so nice i felt really yucky and the bed is awesome thanks Dad. Derek smiles at hearing her call him Dad. Derek-Are you hungry. Belle-Yes i'm starving. Derek-I'm cooking pasta. Belle-Oh is it um white pasta. Derek-What is it babe. Belle-Um i'm allergic to pasta i get all yucky and sick. Derek-Oh sorry babe i should of asked. Belle-It's ok kinda sucks really cause i love bolognaise. Derek-Jacket potato. Belle nods as she watches Derek wonder around the kitchen. They sit and eat as she fills him in on the last 12yrs of her life all the places in the world she has been with her mom all she can remember. Belle-Are you not going to ask about Mom. As Derek is about to answer the doorbell goes and he opens it to Mark and Lexi. Derek-Hey it's late what's up. Mark-We bumped into Rachel she told us Belle was. Derek-Yeah she is she showed up at the hospital. Lexi-Mer. Derek shakes his head as Lexi walks towards the kitchen. Lexi pushes open the kitchen door as Belle looks up. Belle-Aunt Lexi. Lexi-You know me. Belle-Mom talks about you all the time. Lexi bursts into tears as Belle gets up to hug her. Lexi-Sorry sorry stupid pregnancy hormones. Belle-It's ok how is Dax. Lexi-You know about Dax how. Belle-Um Mom she told me she was an auntie. Back in the hall. Mark-Are you ok. Derek-It's Meredith she looks like Meredith. Mark-Are you ok. Derek-Belle she's here and Meredith thinks she is staying at a friends she has no idea she is here and she is going to freak. Sunday i have Belle until sunday then i have to call Meredith and tell her she's here. Mark-It's been nearly 12yrs can you are you ok with that. Derek-Yeah um 12yrs i'm ok i'm good. Mark-12yrs of you still loving herr or you still wearing your wedding ring. Derek-Yeah um just i'm ok leave it Mark please come and meet Belle. Mark walks into the kitchen and pulls Belle into his arms they sit chatting for a while before Belle yawns and Derek insists she goes to bed. Lexi and Mark leave and head home. Lexi-Mer knows about us she knows we got married she knows about Dax. Mark-How. Lexi-I don't know but just Belle said she knows. Mark-She must of been in touch with someone. Lexi-Do you think she will come here. Mark-I think she's gonna have to Derek is calling her sunday night. Lexi nods. The following morning Derek heads down the stairs and hears Belle talking on the phone. Belle-Mom yes iv'e had breakfast.....Wow um that's a cool surgery i bet you are so chuffed.....Ok Mom yeah i love you too.....Be safe talk to you tonight. Derek-Hey babe. Belle-Hi Dad. Derek-Meredith. Belle-Yeah she always rings me she feels bad because she works alot. Derek-Oh right. Belle-Do we um do we talk about Mom. Derek-We can but the way i see it i have you to myself until sunday then i have to call your Mom so lets just enjoy our time together just until sunday. Belle smiles and hugs Derek. They have the most amazing weekend getting to know eachother and Belle just doesn't want to leave she wants to be in her Dad's life. She paces the living-room floor as Derek sit's at the table he takes a deep breath and dials a number. Operator-Mount Sinai hospital how may i direct your call. Derek-Dr Meredith Grey please. Operator-Sorry we don't have a Meredith Grey we have Meredith Sheperd she is head of Neuro. Derek-Meredith Sheperd yes that's right. The phone dials and Derek's breath hitches she still has his name the phone is eventully answered by a woman laughing. Woman-Meredith Sheperds office Clare Taylor speaking. Derek-Can i speak to Meredith Sheperd please. Clare-Can i ask who's calling. Derek-Derek Sheperd from Seattle Grace. Clare-Hold please. Mer it's Derek Sheperd from Seattle Grace. All the files Meredith is holding in her hands fall and scatter across the floor. Meredith-Who Clare. Clare-Derek Sheperd isn't he the Chief at SGH. Meredith-He's um he is um he's my husband. Clare-Your what no way i um do you want to talk to him. Meredith-No i um 12 yrs i can't i um i'm not here i stepped out i just i'm not here i please. Clare-Hi i'm really sorry but Dr Sheperd has just stepped out of the office can i take a message. Derek-She doesn't want to talk to me huh. Clare-Um. Derek-Ok can you tell her that our daughter is in Seattle she is with me and i need Meredith to call me straight back. Clare-Ok. Meredith is sat on her chair with her head on the desk. Clare-Your married seriously i had no idea your such a dark horse. Meredith-12yrs why is he calling now. Clare-Um Mer Belle is in Seattle. Meredith-What. TBC

Derek-Let me take it you head up to bed. Belle-Dad i'm sorry. Derek-Don't be babe it's ok. Belle nods and hugs Derek quickly heading up the stairs Derek answers the phone. Derek-Meredith. Meredith-Crap. The line goes dead and despite Derek's emotions he can't help the smile on his face hearing her voice after so long. Meredith paces her office holding her phone to her chin pacing back and forth hearing his voice again was just she doesn't know what she feels she takes a deep breath and redials but then closes the phone. Derek walks across his room and pours a glass of scotch downing it in one he sits back on the sofa looking at the phone in his hand about 20 minutes pass before the phone vibrates again. Derek-Hello. Meredith doesn't say anything but Derek knows she is still there. Derek-Meredith you could atleast talk to me. Derek can barely hear Merdith as she whispers down the line. Merdith-Sorry i sorry. Derek-She's ok Meredith she's safe she's my baby girl. Meredith-She's ok. Derek-She showed up on friday at the hospital she's been here all weekend. Meredith-I can't breathe she's been there the whole weekend i just i had no idea i'm in NY. Derek-You have to come to Seattle. Meredith-No i no i can't i just i can't no. Derek-You have to stop running one day Meredith. The line disconnects and Meredith throws her phone against the wall in frustration and she gasps as it smashes. Meredith-Dammit crap. Derek closes Belle's phone and heads up the stairs stopping by the door to see Belle asleep he pulls the door too and heads into his bedroom. The following morning he wakes up and finds Belle pacing the landing. Belle-Mom answer the phone please. Derek-Babe. Belle-Um Mom won't answer her cell or our house-phone i called the hospital they haven't heard from her since yesterday. Derek-Oh. Belle-Was she really angry. Derek-No babe she didn't seem to be she was she didn't really say much i think it was more shock. Belle-At hearing your voice. Derek-Maybe yeah you want beakfast. Belle-I am in so much trouble. Derek laughs and pulls Belle to him. Derek-I'll look after you. Belle-Thanks Dad but mom when she's angry it's well scary. Derek-Yeah i remember fiesty Meredith all to well. The day passes really quick and they are sat eating dinner when Derek's pager goes Derek gets up and calls the hospital before calling Lexi. Derek-Babe i have to go to the hospital emergency do you mind if i drop you off with Auntie Lexi you can stay over. Belle-No that will be really good. Derek ushers Belle out of the house and he heads to the hospital he is there for what feels like forever before he manages to sort through the choas and leave the hospital it is completly tipping down with rain and lightening streaking across the sky as he makes his journey home he eventully pulls into his drive-way and his heart stops to see Meredith sat on his porch step he switches of the engine but just can't bring himself to get out of the car he leans his head forward onto the steering wheel taking deep breaths. Meredith looks up through the rain she is completly soaked and shivering but she too can't move anywhere she just looks down at the gravel of the driveway. Derek grabs his briefcase and climbs out of the car and runs across the gravel. Derek-Meredith you are completly soaked come inside. Meredith-I can't i just i'm sorry i can't. Derek-You are shivering just come inside please Meredith come inside. Meredith is just she knows it's stupid knows she has to go inside but she can't move she just can't make her body move from the step. Derek doesn't hesistate as he scoops her up in his arms and takes her into the house. TBC

It will be still angsty but have some good moments too but Meredith and Derek are still very broken. Meredith sits on the stairs completly dripping wet as Derek grabs some towels and wraps them around her. Derek-Better. She nods but her eyes stay fixed on the floor. Meredith-Belle. Derek-She's with Mark and Lexi for the night i had an emergency in work. Meredith-Oh. Derek-How did you know to come here. Meredith-Um i just i knew you built the house. Derek-How. Meredith-I should go i shouldn't be here this isn't fair to you. Derek-Meredith i think that's my decision to make and i'm not letting you leave not with how bad the weather is. Meredith-You want me to stay here. Derek-I have the room you can stay. Meredith-I can't Derek it's i can't stay. Derek-Meredith just upstairs is the guest bedroom Belle has been sleeping there the bathroom is 2nd on the left just please. Meredith-Derek. Derek-Please Meredith just please don't go. Meredith nods and walks up the stairs and into the bedroom she walks into the bathroom and strips out of her wet clothes and steps under the hot water the tears falling hard. She walks down the stairs and Derek is sat in the kitchen. Derek-Coffee. Meredith-Um please. Derek-Did the shower help. aMeredith-Um a bit yeah. Derek places the cup in front of Meredith. Derek-Are you going to talk to me. Meredith-I don't know what to say. Derek-You think i do. Meredith-I screwed up. Derek-You could say that. Meredith-Not helping. Derek-What do you expect me to say. Meredith-I don't know Derek i just i'm sorry. Meredith puts her cup in the sink and stares out the window. Meredith-The house is beautiful. Derek-Took 2 years to build after you left i moved into the trailer. Meredith-My house. Derek-Exactly the same as the day you left. Meredith nods. Derek-Wednesday is. Meredith-Yeah i know. Derek stands behind Meredith and she can see his reflection in the kitchen window his eyes his broken face she closes her eyes not able to take the pain still after all this time. Derek steps closer to her putting his hands on her shoulders. Derek-Wednesday is. Meredith pulls away from his touch. Meredith-I can't i'm sorry Derek i just i can't. Meredith runs from the kitchen into the guest bedroom and falling into the bed. Derek runs his hands through his hair and walks through the house turning the lights off before heading up the stairs. The following morning Derek opens the front-door to Mark Belle and Lexi. Mark-Hi. Lexi-Hi. Belle-Dad Mom i still can't get hold of her she's nowhere. Derek-Babe your Mom is upstairs asleep. Mark-Meredith is here. Belle-Can i go and see her. Meredith-I'm right here. �� Belle flings her arms around Meredith. Belle-Mom please don't be angry. Meredith-Oh i am angry Belle and you are so grounded. Belle-Mom please. Derek-Meredith don't she just wanted to see me. Meredith-Babe i'm not angry because you wanted to see your dad of course i'm not i understand. I'm angry because of how you did it you stole from me you got on a plane by yourself what if something happened Belle. Belle-I'm sorry mom. Meredith wipes the tears from her own cheeks as she hugs Belle. Meredith-Your my baby Belle my whole life what if something happened. Belle-I just i didn't think i'm sorry. Lexi-Meredith. Meredith looks up at a very pregnant Lexi. Lexi-Hi Mer. Meredith-Lex. Lexi walks towards Meredith and bursts into tears Mark looks at Derek and he nods and they disapear into the kitchen leaving the women in the hallway. Mark-You ok. Derek-I guess. Mark-I guess that's bad then. Derek-Mark she's here she's still as beautiful as ever and she is still so broken. Mark-Wednesday. Derek-She knows we were i stood so close to her could smell her hair and she ran. Mark-Derek don't do this to yourself. Derek-Mark i can't help it i can't stop my feelings i might hate her i might want to scream at her for leaving me for running away but i love her still love her so damn much. Mark-Do you even know if she still feels the same way what if she doesn't and she breaks you again. Derek-She can't break what is already broken Mark. Mark-Be careful. Derek-I don't even know what is going to happen what her being here means. Mark-Belle wants to stay here with you. Derek-I know but Meredith holds all the cards. The door knocks and Belle walks into the kitchen. Derek-Hi babe. Belle-Dad we are going to the airport. Derek-Your going home. Belle-It's the summer holiday's and Mom she said i can stay with you for half of it if you want me. Derek-Of course i do babe. Belle-Ok well we are going to fly home and then i'm coming back. Mark-What about Meredith. Belle-I don't know Dad she's outside walking with Aunt Lexi. Derek nods. Belle-Mom has already booked our flights so we are leaving in an hour but i'll be back real soon. Derek nods as Belle wraps her arms around him and she rushes upstairs. Mark-See her return flights were already booked she had no intetion of staying. Derek nods and turns away from Mark looking out the window he see's Meredith and Lexi stood by the stream. TBC

Derek heads into work but he just can't get his head into it he takes part in surgeries hoping to get his thoughts away from Meredith and Belle he just has a feeling that Belle won't come back that Meredith will take her and run further away from him. The following day he is in his office Rachel is talking to him but Derek isn't really listening he looks up as his door knocks and Belle walks in pulling a pink suitcase. Derek-Hey you came back. Belle-Of course i did. Rachel-Hello Belle we kinda got of to a bad start before so i'm sorry clean slate. Belle-Um yeah ok nice to meet yoy. Derek-Rachel do you mind giving us some space. Rachel nods and quickly kisses Derek before leaving. Derek-You flew back alone you should of called me i would of picked you up from the airport. Rachel-I didn't fly alone Mom was with me she dropped me off here and left again. Derek-Meredith is in Seattle. Belle-I think so she didn't really say she just said she had things to do and if i need her to call her. Do you know she smashed her phone against the wall that's why i couldn't get hold of her she had to buy a brand new cell phone. Derek-Oh why. Belle-She didn't say do you have to stay here or can we go. Derek-I cleared my schedule for the next 2 weeks i have a few surgeries and meetings i couldn't get out off but apart from the odd days i'm all yours. Belle hugs Derek and he smiles as he grabs her case and they leave his office his head again consumed with everything Meredith especially thoughts about Wednesday and what that day will mean with Meredith being in Seattle. It's still angsty and Meredith is still very much broken but will gradually get better she has a few more demons to face. Derek is sat on the sofa Belle sat at the other end however much he begged her not to he found himself watching Enchanted he tried to look like he was watching the dvd and not worrying about Meredith. He glances down at Belle and she has fallen asleep Derek gently wakes her and sends her up to bed he follows her to make sure she is ok before heading back downstairs as he switches the lights off Belle's phone vibrates on the coffee table he picks it up and see's Meredith caller ID. Derek-Hello. Meredith-Oh um hi. Derek-Belle's in bed asleep. Meredith-Oh ok i'll call back tomorrow. Derek-Meredith talk to me please. Meredith-I what do you want me to say. Derek-Can we meet just to talk please you owe me that much. Meredith-I can't Derek i broke you why do you want to see me you should hate me. Derek-I do a little part of me hates you but a bigger part worries and still loves you, you are my wife Meredith. Meredith-Derek please. Derek-Meredith stop just stop running and trust me i'm here i have always been here. Meredith-I just i will talk to you i have stuff to do things i need to sort out. Derek-Are you in Seattle. Meredith-Yes. Derek-Mer are you ok. Meredith-I don't know i just i have to go i'll call you. The line goes dead and Derek sighs he is now even more worried he wonders where she is and what she is doing on her own. The following day Derek takes Belle on a tour of the city he takes her to the space needle and all his favourite places. That evening he is in the kitchen when Belle walks in holding her cell. Derek-Belle. Belle-Mom hasn't called yet. Derek-Oh. Belle-She calls every-night i tried calling but it just rings. Derek-I'm sure she's ok she will call. Belle-It's just tomorrow is a bad day for Mom & i guess you too. Derek-You know about tomorrow. Belle-It's your wedding anniversary and the anniversary of George & Izie'a death it's a bad day for Mom. Derek-I you know all about that. Belle-Mom told me all about them she talks about you i know i didn't know you but mom made sure you were a constant in my life through old pictures and stories about you being together. Derek-Oh Belle. Belle-Dad Mom is sad really sad she has been for a while she was seeing a special doctor in NY. Derek-What kind of doctor. Belle-I don't know but she has a weird name. Derek-What's the name. Belle-Suzanna Schwartz i think i can try and spell it. Derek reconises the name and knows she is a counsellor & psychologist specialist the best in her field. Belle-Dad i know Mom loves you. Derek-Yeah. Belle-I know you have Rachel but Mom never had any one else no-one important anyway. Derek can't help the smile knowing or atleast Belle saying Mer still loves him gives him hope and it feels good he pulls his daughter into his arms and hugs her. The following day is Wednesday Derek wakes up in a dark mood and his mind races as to what the day is going to hold he has 3 surgeries and a board meeting he can't get out off so Belle is staying with Lexi. He arrives at the hospital and walks through the reception to be confronted by Cristina. Cristina-Is it true. Derek-Dr Hunt. Cristina-Is it true is she here. Derek-They both are. Cristina-Is she ok. Derek-I don't think so i don't know she won't talk to me. Cristina-Today is wednesday i went this morning. Derek-I'll go later Meredith knows what today is i don't know what she is doing but she knows. I just wish i knew if she was ok. Cristina-You still love her. Derek doesn't answer at looks at the elevator. Derek-I'm scheduled for surgery i really have to go. Cristina nods as Derek leaves he completes his surgeries back to back and sits his board meeting he finishes a little after 10pm and it's raining yet again as he runs to his car. He gets to the exit of the hospital and if he turns left it takes him home to his big house and if he turns him right it takes him to Meredith's old house Derek finds himself indicating right and he pulls away soon pulling up outside a house seeing an unfamilar car on the drive he pulls up and walks up the long path and he finds Meredith sat on the wooden porch drinking from a tequila bottle. Derek-Meredith. Meredith-Oh hi. Derek-You ok. Meredith-Iv'e been sat here all day since just sat here watching all day. Derek-Meredith. Meredith-Today is Wednesday July 16th 2009. Derek-It's Wednesday. Meredith breaths out heavily as she looks up at Derek. Meredith-Today is our or would of been our 13th wedding anniversary the 13th anniversary of George & Izzie's death the 13th year of Alex leaving. Meredith downs more tequila Meredith-Drinking best way to toast Izzie i think but George he hated my tequila binges but Alex was a tequila drinker exactly like me. Derek takes the bottle and downs a mouthful and shakes his head as it hits him the vile taste. Meredith-You drink tequila now. Derek-It's a toast to absent friends. Meredith-Absent family they were my family both of them. Meredith raises her bottle and Derek looks up at her. Meredith-To Izzie Stevens my family my friend my just to Izzie and to George my family my friend and my one time lover big mistake that was. Derek smiles as Meredith giggles a little at her drunken words. Meredith-To Alex Karev where in the world you are i hope your happy and safe. Derek takes the tequila and downs another mouthful. Derek-Izzie George and Alex. Meredith-I miss it everyday. Derek-Izzie George & Alex. Meredith-All of it everything every day. Derek-Have you been inside. Meredith-I don't have a key i lost it years ago. Derek pulls his keys from his pocket and hands them to Meredith. Derek-Now you have a key. TBC

Derek-Not all unhappy Meredith we were happy until Izzie and George we were happy we were getting married in love we had happiness. Meredith smiles a little at Derek's words and looks at him. Meredith-I tried if you believe anything please believe i tried. Derek-Despite everything i do believe that. Meredith takes the key from Derek and gets up but she is unsteady on her feet and she stumbles and Derek catches her. Meredith-Um thank-you. Meredith walks to the door and puts the key unsteadily in the lock the door opening with a loud creak. She walks to the light switch and flicks it up. Derek-There's no electric Meredith. Meredith-12yrs figures no electricity. Derek-Wait i have a torch in the car. Derek walks down the driveway but Meredith heads into the house and fumbles her way up the stairs she stands outside Izzie's old room and takes a deep breath before opening the door Meredith gasps in shock the whole room is completly empty all that remains is the bed there is nothing there everything gone. The light from the street shines into the room as Meredith sits on the bed. Derek-Her mom came here a few weeks after you left she took everything. Meredith-Robbie took it all. Derek-I'm sorry Meredith. Meredith-It's just like a normal bedroom like Izzie wasn't here like she never existed. Derek-You know she existed in your memories. Meredith-Memories hurt. Derek-Yeah i don't deny that. Meredith-Oh. Derek-But running away doesn't make them disapear Meredith you need to fight them face them. Meredith-I couldn't i wasn't strong enough. Derek-Yes you were you were strong enough you pulled yourself back after your mom died you fixed yourself to fix us that is being strong. Meredith-Derek i. Derek-You weren't alone i was there i was always there and you pushed me away you took my baby and you took yourself away everything i loved everything that mattered you took it all away from me. Meredith-I'm sorry. Derek-Sorry isn't enough you took it all away it wasn't just yours to take. Meredith-What do you want me to say. Derek-I don't know i want to hate you seriously just i want to hate you. Meredith-You should hate me. Derek-All i can think about is kissing you right now just pulling you into my arms and kissing you feeling your lips on mine. Meredith-Oh um. Meredith places with the strap on her watch not meeting Derek's gaze. Derek-Sorry i shouldn't of said that i just sorry. Meredith leaves the room and walks along to her old bedroom she opens the door and everything is exactly the same as the day she left. She sits on her bed and Derek walks along and sits beside her. Derek-Come home Meredith you don't belong in NY you should be here be with your family. Meredith-I can't Derek i can't come back. Derek-Belle is my kid she is half my kid i want her in my life so things have to change. Meredith-I have my job my house it's my life. Derek-Its not just about you anymore. Meredith looks at Derek. Meredith-I have my job. Derek-You know i have a job at Grace. Meredith-What. Derek-Dr Nelson is leaving i have a neuro attending position it's yours Meredith. Meredith-Oh. Derek gets up as Meredith pushes herself back against the headboard. Derek-The offer is there Meredith think it through come to Grace talk it through with me or call me. Derek walks to the bedroom door. Meredith-Oh um are you leaving. Derek-You want me to stay. Meredith-I um i mean if you have to go you go i'm ok. Derek-I don't i can stay. Meredith nods as Derek sits next to her she leans her head on his shoulder. Derek pulls her closer to him. The following morning Meredith wakes up to a beeping sound she opens her eyes and realises she is still in Derek's arms he is reading his pager. Derek-Morning. Meredith-Hi. Derek-How do you feel. Meredith-Um rested is a good word i actually slept last night. Derek-That's good i'm really late i have to go. Meredith-Why didn't you go when i was still asleep. Derek-Just wanted to wait until you woke up listen think through my offer Meredith please. Meredith nods as Derek gets up he goes to walk off but then turns back and gently kisses her forehead a lingering kiss before he leaves again Meredith climbs off the bed and heads down the stairs walking into the kitchen to be met by a figure stood by the sink. Meredith-Cris please just 5 minutes. Cristina-I have to get Taylor from nursery. Cristina walks to the door and hesistates before turning around to face Meredith. Meredith-Cris. Cristina-12yrs you were gone for 12yrs you didn't even say goodbye. Meredith-I know and i'm sorry i am sorry. Cristina-Are you coming back to Seattle. Meredith-I um i don't know things um have to change maybe it's maybe. Cristina-Ok Meredith-Um do you want me to come back. Cristina-I don't care it's up to you. Meredith-If i come back will you ignore me. Cristina-I um no. Meredith-Derek he offered me the Neuro attending. Cristina takes out her cell-phone and dials a number. Cristina-Hey it's me um i'm tied up can you get Taylor for me....Yeah yeah everything is fine just talking to Meredith....Ok talk to you later love you. Meredith-I don't have anything i have no coffee water i have no electricity. Cristina-Joe's we can grab a drink it's early but i think we need it. I have to stop at the hospital my bag is in my locket is that can we go there are you ok. Meredith-Yeah i have to see Derek. They leave the house walking to Meredith's hire car. Back at the hospital Derek is sat going through paperwork when his door knocks and Mark walks in. Mark-You talking to me. Derek-Course man come in. Mark-Paperwork. Derek-It's never ending. Mark-So did you have fun last night. Derek-Sorry. Mark-Your date with Rachel. Derek-Oh yeah that it was it was ok. Mark-Just ok i thought you two were getting serious she's pratically living at yours. Derek-She doesn't live with me Mark. Mark-Yeah so you say anyway the sooner Meredith Grey leaves the better. Derek-Ah now there's a problem Meredith Sheperd might be staying. Mark-You offered it to her didn't you. Derek just smiles. Mark-You seriously offered her the Neuro Attending. Derek-It's on the table it's in her hands now. Mark-Are you mad Rachel is perfect for you. Derek-Meredith is my soul-mate she is my other half. Mark-For a brain surgeon you are incredibly thick. Derek-I'm not even asking you to understand or accept it. Mark-Do you even know if she wants you. Derek-I don't know Mark i just i know she has issues i have issues but we can work through them but to do that she has to be here she has to be in Seattle. Mark-Fine i can't forgive her and if she takes the job i'll leave. Derek-Oh don't be such a damn drama queen Mark i know you are looking out for me but it's my life i'm an adult i know what i'm doing. She hurt me not you. Mark-No she hurt us all we were a family a weird family but we were a family and she left she took Belle she broke You & she broke Lexi. I held her in my arms as she cried everytine she called Meredith and she refused to pick up the phone she was so upset. Derek-I know but Lexi is willing to try you need to do the same. Mark-Lexi is too forgiving she is soft. Derek-Mark i know what i'm doing. Mark-So your going to hurt Rachel break her for someone who is completly screwed up and unable to love you like you desperately crave. Meredith Grey isn't your wife anymore Derek she isn't your soul-mate your other half. Youe living in the clouds the sooner you see that the better. Derek hears a soft gasp at the door and they both turn to find Meredith stood by the frame with Cristina. Derek-Meredith. Meredith-Oh um Cristina forgot her purse i should i have to go. Meredith runs to the elevator and presses the button manically praying it closes before Derek gets there the doors shut as she see's him approach. She gets to the foyer and rushes out to her car. Back upstairs. Cristina-Well done Mark. Mark-Yeah um. Cristina-He's a grown man let him make his own mistakes. Derek-You complete asshole what the hell is your deal Mark. Derek grabs his coat from the side and his car-keys and cell. Derek-If she runs i swear seriously if she runs again you better stay the hell away from me. As Derek is about to leave his pager beeps at his hip a 911 he sighs and rushes down the corridor. Meredith arrives back at the old house as she pulls up on the driveway she see's Belle sat on the porch swing. Belle-Hi Mom. Meredith-Belle um your here i how did you know where the house is. Belle-Lexi bought over she had errands to run i kinda lied and told her we were meeting up sorry. Meredith-Belle you have to stop this running around on your own. Belle-Sorry but i'm ok see Isobel-Georgie Sheperd is stood in front of you in one piece. Meredith giggles lightly at her daughter's cheesy grin. Belle-Mom are you ok. Meredith-Yeah um babe can we talk. Belle-Sure. Meredith sits next to Belle and takes a deep breath. Meredith-You want to live here be near your dad. Belle-I want to yes i want to be with my Dad. Meredith-What about Annie all your friends your school. Belle-I can transfer schools Mom. Meredith-Yeah there's that. Belle-Me and Annie can be Pen-Pals. Meredith nods. Meredith-We would live here in this house together Me and You starting over. Belle-Really what about your job. Meredith-I um i have new possibilties or i could just take a year out. Belle-You want to move here. Meredith-It's not my decision i took you away from your Dad before i won't do it again so if you want to move here we move here. Belle-Mom are you sure. Meredith nods. Belle-I want to move here. Meredith-Ok. Belle smiles and hugs her Mom. Belle-Um Mom the house is kinda ick cam we um can we decorate. Meredith-Oh yes definetly complete transformation. TBC

Belle-Hey Dad. Derek-Hey you ok. Belle-Yeah just tired been doing alot today. Derek-Care to tell me about it. Rachel-Derek dinner is almost done. Derek-Oh right. Rachel-Oh hi Belle do you want to join us for dinner. Belle-Oh um thanks but i'm tired i'm gonna be up in my room. Rachel nods and walks back into the kitchen. Derek-Belle please stay and have dinner with us. Belle-I'm tired Dad and i need to call Annie night. Belle kisses her Dad's cheek and walks up the stairs. At the request of Meredith she hasn't told her Dad that they are moving back to Seattle Meredith wants to get everything sorted before she does. Rachel-Hey dinner's done. Derek-Yeah ok. The following morning Belle walks out of her bedroom and see's Rachel leaving Derek's bedroom. Rachel-Hey kid see you later. Derek-Morning Babe. Belle-Hi Dad. Derek-Listen i have one meeting today then we can go out. Belle-Ok just us. Derek-Yep just us do you want me to drop you with Aunt Lexi. Belle-No i'm just gonna stay here watch a dvd is that ok. Derek-Your ok on your own. Belle-Yeah don't worry about me i'm good. Derek-Ok i'll be back as soon as i can be. Derek leaves the house and as he is driving off his cell goes. Derek-Hello Derek Sheperd....Oh Mrs Taverner hello....What oh um yeah sure i'll be right there. Derek puts his foor down and speeds off in the opposite direction arriving at his destination he pulls up to see men everywhere he walks up the drive as he hears a shout telling him to mind out as a bed base crashes into a skip. Man-Man watch your step working here. Derek-What the hell are you doing. Man-Renovating. Derek-Who the hell gave you permission this is my house. Man-Little lady inside honey blond hair take it up with her. Derek-Meredith. Man-Yes that's it Meredith pretty fiesty. Derek walks into the house and finds Meredith in the kitchen wearing a white hard hat and she is stood talking to a tall man holding a clip-board he can't help but stop and think how cute she looks. She looks up at him and smiles walking towards him. Meredith-Hey. Derek-Mer what is going on. Meredith-Renovating. Derek-The neighbours called told me someone was ripping the house apart. Meredith-Yeah sorry i just i have so much to get organised. Derek-Your moving home. Meredith-It's what Belle wants so yeah we are moving home. Derek-That's good thank-you. Meredith-It's um yeah it's ok. Derek-Can i help do something. Meredith-No um iv'e got it all under control Derek about the job were you serious. Derek-Yes it's yours if you want it Meredith. Meredith-I um next monday can i start next monday i have to flying to NY in 2 days to pack up stuff and i have to get Belle into school here it's mid-term hopefully i can sort it i still i think i can start next monday. Derek-I can help with the school if you want i know the head-teacher i'm sure i can pull a few strings. Meredith-Really that would be such a great help are you sure. Derek-Leave it with me i got this. Meredith-Thank-you. Derek's pager beeps at his hip. Meredith-You have to go. Derek-Yeah i uh if you need anything call me i can help i will get your contract written up come to the hospitakl sign it whenever your free. Meredith smiles as the builder calls her over Derek walks back to his car feeling really good maybe things aren't so bad. He arrives at the hospital talking on his cell. Derek-It's my daughter Isobel she's just turned 13 i know it's a lot to ask middle of the year and that but Thomas if you can help i would really appreciate it...Yep that's fantastic i'll bring her by on monday afternoon thank-you again. Rachel-Hey your late. Derek-Am i oh right yeah had a few errands to run. Rachel-So iv'e heard a rumour that the surgical goddess Meredith Grey is starting at SGH. Derek-Wow gossip flies in this place. Rachel-Is it true is she really as good as they say. Derek-So i'm told yeah she is a fantastic surgeon and i'm sure will be a huge asset to this hospital and my team. Rachel-Good Derek listen. Derek-Yes. Rachel-So when are we going to discuss your ex wife every time i bring up the subject you cut me short. Derek-What do you want to know. Rachel-Who is she you dropped this kid on me then Mark tells me about this ex wife. Derek-She isn't my ex wife. Rachel-Not yet i know but Derek you never mentioned her in the two years we have been together i don't even know her name. Derek-You know her name. Rachel-I can assure you i don't. Derek-Meredith Grey is my wife. Rachel-Grey your joking no-way. Derek-No Rachel i am not joking. Rachel-Oh my god you were seriously married to Meredith Grey the surgical goddess. Derek-I am still seriously married to her i really have to go Rachel i'm sorry i'm due in surgery and Belle's alone at home. Rachel nods as all the information sinks in she flops down on the chair and her head is spinning Derek is married to Meredith freaking Grey they have a kid. Rachel knows he still loves her but she loves him too & isn't giving him up without a fight if she has to play dirty she is prepared to do so. Later that afternoon Rachel takes lunch to Derek she heard he had a very stressful surgery and wants to cheer him up. Derek is sat going through Meredith's contract going over the finer details making sure everything is in order. Rachel-Hey. Derek-Hey. Rachel-Lunch you look tired. Derek-Yes i am stressful surgery patient coded twice i'm starving thank-you for this. Rachel sits on the desk and gives Derek his food making sure her skirt is just a little to high showing her thigh Derek being a man can't take his eyes away. Derek-Don't you um have surgery. Rachel-No not this afternoon so i'm all yours. Rachel slips onto Derek's lap and kisses him. Derek-I can't stay Rach i really have to get back to Belle. Rachel kisses down Derek's neck as he gives up & wraps his arms around her waist. Rachel-You can spare 20minutes or longer. Derek smiles as she kisses him. Meredith walks through the hospital entrance after standing outside for 20 minutes trying to get the courage to head inside. Lexi-Mer. Meredith-Crap hey um Lexi hi. Lexi-Mer what's wrong. Meredith-Derek i have to see him. Lexi-Derek yeah he's here. Meredith-Ok um do you know if he's in surgery or if he's in a meeting. Lexi-He's in his office want me to walk with you. Meredith-Mark is he here. Lexi-Day off he's at home with Dax. Meredith-Ok that's good i think he hates me. Lexi-Hate is pretty strong he just he is protective of Derek you hurt him by running you hurt everyone. Meredith nods as they walk into the elevator. Lexi-Mer why um why are you here i mean iv'e heard rumours the nurses are all talking about it Mark has been exceptionally stressy with me are you coming back. Meredith-It's what Belle wants so yeah i guess yeah i'm taking the Head of Neuro. Lexi-Really your coming home. Meredith-Lexi i have alot of bridges to try and fix forgiveness to earn from certain people & it's what Belle wants she wants her Dad in her life i have to give her that. Lexi-Mer your my sister i forgive you. Meredith-You do. Lexi leans in and hugs Meredith as the doors open. Lexi-I will work on Mark but i'm on your side. Meredith-That is a good thing to hear thank-you Lexi i don't deserve it but thank-you. Lexi-Mark is working tomorrow i can come to the house you can meet your nephew properly. Meredith-Really yeah that would be great Lexi thank-you. Lexi-Ok i have to go but Derek's office is just down there i'll come over at 11ish is that ok. Meredith-Yeah um the bed's are being delivered but it should be ok we can go out because the house is a huge mess. Lexi smiles and quickly cuddles Meredith and walks off Meredith heads to the end of the corridor & gently knocks on Derek's door. She pushes open the door and see's Derek & Rachel kissing. Meredith-Crap oh i'm sorry i just sorry. Meredith pulls the door to & rushes towards the elevator pressing the button begging the lift doors to open before Derek catches up with her she looks up as his door opens and she heads for the stairs pratically running down them. She runs along the corridor and stops to catch her breath in a supply closet. She struggles to breathe & feels devestated to see Derek & Rachel she knew from Belle he had a girlfriend & she knows she has no right to feel hurt but she can't help it even after all these years apart she can't help the ache in her heart. TBC Ok so please don't hate Derek they are both confused about their feelings but they will get resolved soon.
