Hey hey!! so my update - not done yet, but almost. I decided to forego what I had originally planned, and instead of waiting for my pc, I had come up with a different way to take things, so as soon as I finish I'll be posting it. Until then, I'm re-posting [on our new site, obviously] all the stuff from before. I did make a couple small changes, so be on the lookout. :D
Brooke: [on how she prepared for Erica falling for Callie] It's not rocket science! She's hot!

Posted Image

Brooke: That was a nice segue...did you see that one coming? - I've heard about them. My niece does the google alert thing - ... Yeah - the Callica youtube videos and stuff like that.... Yes, the kiss over and over and over and over - yes, to that song I kissed a girl and I liked it...You know all that. Yeah, mhmm.

Get Out of My Closet

*Callie's in her apartment with Cristina, trying on clothes. Her current outfit is a pair of tight fitting jeans, a cute belt over her shirt.. Which is cute navy blue tube top.

Callie: So what do you think of this one?

Cristina: It's... nice.

Callie: Unnh!

[she goes into the bathroom and changes, and comes out in a sexy red halter top]

Callie: (looking in mirror) I think this is the one. Yeah. This one. (turns to Cristina)

Cristina: This is the eighteenth shirt you've tried on in the last hour. (sits on the couch) Where are you going, anyway?

Callie: To see a movie, I think.

Cristina: You're trying on fifteen million outfits to go see a movie? Who're you going with, anyway? Hahn?

Callie: For the thousandth time, Erica. When you're talking about her as a person, you can call her by her name, you know. Anyway, yes. And what do you care, anyway?

Cristina: I don't. I don't care if you're going out with Hahn - Erica. Just seems like an awful lot of -

Callie: What?

Cristina: You like Hahn!

Callie: Yeah, so?

Cristina: So you like Hahn.

Callie: What's your point? Its not like its a big secret.

Cristina: Nothing. No point. Nope. Not gonna say a word.

Callie: Ok.

Cristina: Are you gay?

Callie: I knew that wasn't gonna last. And no.

Cristina: You sure? You're not a lipstick lesbian? You're not batting for the other side? Riding on the other bus? Goin to town with a lady?

Callie: You have issues.

Cristina: Are you a switch hitter, Callie?

Callie: (rolls her eyes) I have to get ready. She's gonna be here soon. (raises eyebrows at Cristina) Do you have a problem?

Cristina: Nope. No problem. Wait - she's coming here?

Callie: Don't worry, she's not coming in. I'm not breaking any of your stupid rules.

Cristina: No, no, it's fine. She can come in.

Callie: You don't mind?

Cristina: No, I don't mind. I don't mind at all.

Callie: You're acting strange.

Cristina: No I'm not.

Callie: But you don't like Erica.

Cristina: Oh, nope. It's okay. You wanna have your little friend from the other side of the hill in here, I don't have a problem with it. Just, don't be, you know, 'doin stuff' in my apartment. (Callie throws a shirt at her)

[knock on door]

Cristina: Oh, there's your lover now.

Callie: (lets out an annoyed sigh and opens the door) Hey.

Erica: Hey. You ready?

Callie: Um, almost. You want to come in?

Erica: What about Yang's rule?

Callie: Cristina says she doesn't have a problem with it. (she comes in) Just me two seconds. (she disappears into the bathroom)

Erica: Yang.

Cristina: Dr. Hahn.

Erica: (motions to the couch) Do you mind?

Cristina: Not at all. (looks at her wryly)

Erica: (slightly annoyed) What?

Cristina: (shrugs) Just relaxin in my apartment. (glances at her sideways)

Erica: Do you have a problem, Yang?

Cristina: No. But I do have a new rule: You can be in here, as long as you treat me with respect. This is my apartment, and whatever professional issues you have with me, when you are in here, they go away. You don't have to be nice to me, but if you want to be in here, in my apartment, you do have to treat me with respect.

Erica: (sighs) Okay.

Callie: (returning, looking nervous) Oh good. You guys didn't kill each other while I was gone. (grabs purse)

Erica: Funny. (gets up) Let's go.

[they leave]

*Erica and George are outside the ER doors, waiting for a trauma patient to come in. Callie walks out to join them.

Callie: Erica, hi. You have a trauma coming in?

Erica: Yep. You?

Callie: Yeah.

Erica: O'Malley's my resident today. First surgery since he became one.

George: Yep. Yep. My first resident surgery. Mm-hmmm.

[Erica raises her brows at him]

Erica: Is he okay? (Callie shrugs) So, uh, you wanna -

[ambulance pulls up, and opens doors]

Erica: All right what have we got?

EMT: Heart attack. The patient is a car accident victim. He crashed his car right in the middle of the highway. Luckily, he didn't hit anyone else. And he's got at least one broken leg, bones are sticking right out.

Erica: Guess we're working together on this one. All right, let's get him inside. (they push him into the ER)

Callie: His leg is really bad. I'm gonna need to do some x-rays, make sure nothing else is broken.

Erica: All right. O'Malley, we're gonna need blood samples and an EKG. Can you take him to x-rays after that?

[Callie and Erica leave]

*Erica is in the hall and George walks up to her

Erica: O'Malley.

George: Dr. Hahn. I've got the patient's labwork.

[Callie walks over]

Erica: (taking folder from him) Good.

George: And I've got his x-rays for Dr. Torres. (hands them to her)

Callie: (walking into x-ray light room and putting films up) Okay. He's got three cracked ribs, a broken leg, and (looking closer) - what is that?

Erica: Part of his broken rib cage is lodged is in his heart. We're gonna have to do surgery as soon as possible.

*Callie is in the resident locker room, changing into scrubs for surgery when Erica walks in

Erica: Hey.

Callie: Hey. I had a really good time last night.

Erica: (changing into scrubs) Me too. I was surprised how much I liked that movie.

Callie: I told you.

Erica: (wryly) You like to expand my horizons, don't you?

Callie: Very. (they laugh)

Erica: So you ready for this surgery?

Callie: Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?

Erica: Well, it is our first surgery since....

Callie: I know. Are you worried about - ?

Erica: Are you?

Callie: No. I mean, I'm a little worried I'll mess up, but -

Erica: You? You're flawless with your work. Why would you - ? (Callie gives her a look that plainly says 'i might be distracted') Don't worry. You'll be fine. It's the rest of them I'm worried about. (they laugh)

[Izzie walks in, and there is an awkward silence]

Callie: Hey, Izzie.

Izzie: (awkwardly) Hi, Callie. Um, Dr. Hahn. You, uh - your guys's patient is ready in OR One.

Erica: All right, we'll see you in there Stevens. (she leaves)

Callie: I think I caught her off guard. Being nice. Nicer to her than I usually am. (they laugh)

Erica: Why were you nice to her?

Callie: Because I let go. I let go with George. It's not like it's completely Izzie's fault. I mean, she knew George and I were married, and what she did was wrong, and mean, and it hurt a lot. But I forgave George, I forgave him because I loved him, but he was still in the wrong, too. I'm not saying I'm going to her best friend now, because I'm not. Definitely not. But I can let go. Part of me will always love George, but that part of my life is over, and I've moved on. And I think because I've moved on I can try to forgive her a little bit. Besides, it did make a little bit happy when things didn't work out between the two of them. (they laugh, and head to OR1)

*Erica, Callie, Dr. Bailey, George, Izzie, and Lexie are in OR1, and are about to operate

Erica: Okay, people, let's get to work. Scalpel. (the surgical nursing assistant hands her a ten blade)

[she cuts open his chest, opening it until she reaches the heart]

Erica: All right, let's see if we can get this bone out without puncturing his aorta. (pulls bone out of his chest) There it is. Came out

nice and clean. (places it in bowl) Dr. Torres.

Callie: (taking bowl from nurse) Should heal nicely once I get the rib belt in.

Erica: Okay, let's - (blood suddenly spurts onto her). There it goes.

Nurse: BP's dropping.

Erica: Clamp. (she puts the clamps on his heart, stopping the bleeding) Let's get him a graft.

George: There's more bleeding, Dr. Hahn.

Erica: (looking) His mitral valve has a tear. Let's get that taken care of before his heart stops, and get him up on bypass. Good eye,

O'Malley. (clamps vessel, and detatches an artery from his chest wall) Would you like to attach it to his coronary, O'Malley? (hands him

the clamps)

[he does so]

Erica: Nicely done.

*Erica is in the patient's room after surgery, along with Dr. Bailey, Callie, George, Izzie, and Lexie

Erica: Your accident caused a rib to separate, and it pushed into your heart. It punctured your aorta when we removed it, and you had

a tear in your mitral valve. O'Malley?

George: You were put on bypass using an artery from your chest wall, but the tear in you mitral valve was too severe, so Dr. Hahn

replaced the area of the tear with an artificial valve.

Erica: Stevens?

Izzie: Dr. Hahn reattached the artery to your chest wall, and repaired the damage to your aorta with a conventional aortic graft.

Callie: After Dr. Hahn was finished, I placed your separated rib bone back into place, and put in a rib belt to help it heal. If you get

lots of rest and don't perform any strenuos activities, you should be fine in about a month or two. And I opened your leg and placed

your bone back inside, you should get your cast off not too long after your ribs are healed.

Patient: That's it, right? No severed lungs, nothing like that?

Dr. Bailey: Your organs were a little bruised, but there wasn't any severe damage. So you should be fine.

*Cristina is standing at the nurses station, when George walks over

Cristina: Today sucks. You know, Hahn pushed me out of her surgery just because you only just became a resident? You're not going into cardio - you don't need to be in on her surgeries.

George: I just got to attach an artery from a man's chest wall for bypass and put in the graft for an aortic vavle tear, so nothing you say can mess with me right now.

Cristina: McSteely let you attach an artery and put in the graft?

George: Yep. And why'd you call her McSteely?

Cristina: 'Cuz she's hardcore, mean, McSteely - that's why.

George: She was nice to me.

Cristina: Oh, whatever George. Get over your euphoria. Hahn's only nice to Callie.

George: If you say so.

Cristina: Her lover.

George: What - what did you say?

Cristina: (in mock uncertainty) What? I didn't say anything.

George: Callie and Hahn? That's - that's - no. Callie's straight.

Cristina: (in mock agreement) Okay.

George: She is.

Cristina: Don't get your panties in a twist, Georgie. (she leaves)

*Izzie and George are in the stairwell, talking

George: Do you know anything about Dr. Hahn and Callie?

Izzie: No, why, what have you heard?

George: Me? Nothing. I haven't heard anything.

Izzie: George.

George: I only know what Cristina said.

Izzie: What? (he says nothing) George!

George: Nope. I am not gonna say anything.

Izzie: George, you cannot not tell me.

George: Not spreading around any rumors.

Izzie: George! You have to tell me.

George: Okay, fine, but you cannot tell anyone. Okay? (she nods) Cristina said - she said - well - (he hesitates)

Izzie: What?

George: She said Callie and Hahn liked each other.

Izzie: Oh. So?

George: No, I mean, liked.

Izzie: Oh! Really? Callie and Hahn? Seriously?

George: Do you know what this means? I'm gonna be the guy who turned a woman gay.. I'm gonna be the guy whose ex-wife is gay!

Izzie: It's probably not true. You know? It's probably not true. You know, I bet Cristina started that rumor just because Hahn hates her.

George: Yeah, I guess she could have.

Izzie: (nodding) Yeah.

*Meredith is at a nurses' station, drinking coffee and looking through a stack of papers; Izzie walks over to her

Izzie: Hey.

Meredith: Hey, Iz.

Izzie: What are you doing?

Meredith: Reading a patient's medical history.

Izzie: (faux-excitedly) Wow. That's a lot of medical history.

Meredith: Yep.

Izzie: So, um, you haven't, uh, heard any rumors lately, have you?

Meredith: Nope.

Izzie: Nothing? Nothing about Dr. Hahn? Or Callie?

Meredith: Dr. Hahn and Callie? No, why?

Izzie: Oh. not Dr. Hahn and Callie. I was just, you know, throwing some names around.

Meredith: Izzie, do you know something?

Izzie: No. I don't know anything.

Meredith: Izzie, you know you're terrible with secrets.

[Cristina walks over]

Cristina: There's an understatment if I ever heard one.

Izzie: I am not terrible with secrets!

Meredith: Yes you are.

Cristina: Yeah. You're almost as good at keeping secrets as George is at getting a date.

Meredith: Cristina!

Cristina: What?

Izzie: I am not terrible at keeping secrets, and just for that, I'm not telling you! (she rushes off)

Cristina: Tell you what?

Meredith: Something about Dr. Hahn.

Cristina: Oh, you mean McSteely's love affair with Callie?

Meredith: Seriously? Wait - how do you know? (Cristina shrugs) Cristina.

Cristina: All right, fine, so maybe I started it.

Meredith: Cristina!

Cristina: What? It's probably true.

Meredith: But I thought Callie was straight. I mean, she married George and slept with McSteamy.

Cristina: Maybe she's bi. Although, if she was, I don't know why she'd choose McSteely over one of us.

[Izzie walks past]

Meredith: Izzie!

Izzie: I'm not telling!

Meredith: I already know.

Izzie: Oh, Cristina told you?

Meredith: Yep.

Izzie: Oh, thank god. So do you think it's true?

{Meredith shrugs}

Cristina: I think Hahn could definitely be gay. It would explain why she never hangs out with anyone but Callie.

Izzie: Yeah. I don't know though. George is freaking out, though.

Meredith: Why is George freaking out?

Izzie: He thinks everyone's gonna start saying he's the guy whose ex-wife is gay.

Cristina: Well, I wouldn't be surprised if it was his fault.

Izzie: But George was her McDreamy!

[Alex walks over]

Alex: You guys talking about Sheperd again?

Izzie: No. Callie and George.

Alex: Why are you talking about Bambi?

Cristina: He turned Callie gay.

Alex: Seriously? Callie? With who?

Meredith: Hahn.

Cristina: McSteely.

Alex: Why McSteely?

Cristina: 'Cuz she's a mean, McHardcore, McSteely Mcbit*h.

Izzie: Wow.

Alex: Only to you. Besides, Callie and Hahn? That's hot. (they all look at him) What? The only thing hotter than two hot doctors is two hot doctors together.

Izzie: Wow, guess you're back to your old self.

[size=7]Cristina: So then why haven’t you and McSteamy hooked up yet?[/size]

[size=7]Alex: Gross. (he walks away, the women all laugh)[/size]

*Erica and Callie are having lunch together at their usual table; Callie notices more than a handful of people of staring at them and whispering

Callie: What's up with them? (she motions to a group of nurses across the way)

Erica: I dunno. People are acting strange today. Especially Yang. She's been that way ever since last night.

Callie: Yeah. She thinks she knows about us.

Erica: You know, if we have an audience -

Callie: You are so not thinking what I think you are.

Erica: What? You know I love to screw with people. Besides, it's not like its not true. Well, partly. It's not as if we actually know exactly what they're saying.

Callie: Knowing this hospital? I've got a pretty good idea. (shrugs) All right, I know you're dying to do this - (she turns around in her chair, facing opposite Erica)

Erica: Callie? What are you doing?

Callie: (leaning back into Erica) Having fun. You know what fun is, right Erica?

Erica: (leaning in toward Callie's face) More than most, but you already knew that. (their lips meet, then pull away and look up at the nurses table across from them, whose faces are in complete shock, and Erica gives them a little wave) Hi! (they laugh, and Callie pulls herself upright)

[Mark walks over]

Mark: So you guys are into PDAs now?

[laughter stops]

Erica: For your information, it wasn't for us. It was for the little twelve year-olds. (nods at the nurses)

Mark: Uh-huh.

Erica: Well, okay, I will admit I did rather enjoy that. (to Callie) Did you see the looks on their faces?

Callie: Yeah, it was pretty good. (Mark looks between the two of them)

Erica: (annoyed) What?

Mark: Nothing. I just thought that, you know, after last week you two would -

Erica: Just post up fliers about us all over the hospital? You want pictures with that?

Callie: I'm sure he does.

Erica: Yeah, but he's not gonna get them. He couldn't even handle a kiss, what makes him think pictures would be any better? (laughing) I wouldn't be surprised if he fainted.

Mark: Hey, I can handle any woman - or any number of women, for that matter - that I want to.

Erica: (sardonically) Uh-huh.

*Erica and Callie are at Joe's together; Meredith, Cristina, George, and Izzie are at the counter watching them

[Callie and Erica laughing]

Izzie: Look at them. Are we sure they're not just really good friends?

Meredith: We're sure.

George: How?

Cristina: Oh, there was a little McSteely on Callie action in the caf today. You guys missed it.

Izzie: You didn't tell us?

Meredith: It was after you guys left.

Cristina: You know, if Callie's really dating Hahn, she needs a McName.

Meredith: Why? I didn't have one.

Cristina: Yeah, but McSteely and Callie just sounds weird.

George: I'm the guy who turned my ex-wife gay.

Cristina: What about McFaulty?

Meredith: (shaking her head at Cristina) Didn't she sleep with McSteamy after you guys separated?

George: Yeah, but that was probably just -

Cristina: McCrazy.

Izzie: Sex. Nothing but hot, McSteamy sex. She loved George. And McCrazy is Ava. I mean Rebecca. I mean - whatever, its just her - all over.

Meredith: You think she loves Hahn?

Cristina: My McNames are all messed up today because Hahn screwed me out of surgery.

Izzie: McFlippy? McSwitchy? (they all look at her) What?

Meredith: McShifty.

George: I'm the guy who turned my ex-wife gay.

[Mark walks in, and walks over to Erica and Callie]

Mark: Ladies.

Callie: Hey.

Mark: You guys got enough tequila here?

Erica: (laughing) No.

Mark: Can you two still walk?

Callie: Of course we can.

Mark: Well, if either of you end up needing an escort home -

Erica: (laughing) I do not believe this. I have turned you down five times -

Callie: And he's still trying to get in your pants. (they laugh)

Mark: What can I say? At least I never give up.

Erica: Yes, but do you get it up? (Callie and Erica burst into laughter, and he walks away)

Callie: Poor Mark. I think maybe you hurt his feelings.

Erica: And I would care because - ? (they laugh again)

[Mark walks over to Derek, who is across the bar]

Derek: Hey. What was that about?

Mark: Nothing.

Derek: So you're not cool enough to hang out with the ladies anymore?

Mark: I am. I just thought maybe I'd hang with my friends tonight.

Derek: I thought Callie was your friend. Like your in-the-on-call-room-friend?

Mark: She was.

Derek: And?

Mark: And nothing.

Derek: Nothing, right.

Mark: (pauses) She dumped me.

Derek: Yeah, but you two were never actually going out, right? So, technically -

Mark: Yeah, whatever, you with your principles.

Derek: So who'd she dump you for?

[Mark looks over at Callie and Erica, then looks back at Derek]

Mark: Hahn.

Derek: Hahn? Really? You're kidding, right?

Mark: I wish I was.

(The Chief walks over to join them)

Derek: Hey Chief. You and Adele have a fight already?

Chief: No. Just wanted to have a drink before I go home. Its been a long day. (he sits down)

Derek: (to Mark) I still can't believe that.

Chief: Believe what?

Derek: Callie dumped Mark for Erica.

Chief: Hahn? And Dr. Torres?

Mark: All right, can we stop talking about this now?

Chief: I don't understand. I thought Dr. Torres - I mean, she was married to O'Malley, and she put you on her form -

Mark: Yeah, well, now -

Derek: I thought you said Erica liked you?

Mark: She did. I thought she did. She said she did.

Derek: Erica Hahn? Told you she liked you?

Mark: She implied it. So -

Derek: So what you're saying is that you turned two women gay? (laughs)

Mark: Shut up. (Derek laughs again)
Brooke: [on how she prepared for Erica falling for Callie] It's not rocket science! She's hot!

Brooke: That was a nice segue...did you see that one coming? - I've heard about them. My niece does the google alert thing - ... Yeah - the Callica youtube videos and stuff like that.... Title: The Consequence of Being In Love

** Erica is talking to a patient in their room

Patient: Have you ever been in love, Dr. Hahn?

Erica: Uh -

Patient: It's wonderful, isn't it? (silence) I'm sorry. I'm being too nosy, aren't I?

Erica: No, it's okay. I have, actually.

Patient: And?

Patient's Mother: Jessica, stop.

Erica: No, it's fine. I don't, uh - I don't mind.

Mother: Okay, well, I know all about being in love, so I'm just gonna - (she nods to door and stands) I'll be in the cafeteria if you need me. (kisses Jessica on the forehead) I'm gonna try and get ahold of your father again. (she leaves)

Jessica: So what's it like?

Erica: Why is it exactly that you want to know?

Jessica: I've never been in love. Not even puppy love. I mean, I've liked guys. My mom thinks I'm boy-crazy. But I've never had one of them like me back.

Erica: You're young.

Jessica: Yeah, and that's kind of the problem.

Erica: Because all your friends have boyfriends?

Jessica: Because all my friends have at least been on a date. I'm 23, Dr. Hahn. I should've been on at least one date by now.

Erica: Well, in my experience, dating itself is not all its cracked up to be. Its awkward at first, and hard after.

Jessica: But? (silence from Erica) It gets better, right? (Erica looks out the window and sees Callie passing by) Dr. Hahn?

Erica: I, uh, - I don't - what's your rush anyway? You're a healthy girl, right? You've got lots of time to worry about that later.

Jessica: But my surgery -

Erica: Is gonna go just fine. Trust me, I'm very good at what I do.

Jessica: I'm sure you are, but that's not really the problem.

Erica: What do you mean?

Jessica: Look, I didn't wanna say anything in front of my mom, but - that thing that you said? About me being healthy? I'm not.

Erica: Having a weak heart does not mean you're unhealthy. And your donor heart is on its way and in very good condition.

Jessica: It doesn't matter.

Erica: Hey, you have got to think positively. You keep thinking like that - and it won't matter how well I do my job.

Jessica: I can't have the surgery. I mean - I don't know if I can have the surgery. I'm not scared of having it. Okay, I am, that's not - I just don't know if I want to go through with it.

Erica: Jessica, listen to me, you are not gonna die in surgery today.

Jessica: I'm not worried about dying in surgery today. I'm worried about dying in surgery next week.
Erica: You're not scheduled for surgery next week.

Jessica: It's not at Seattle Grace. (pauses) I have a blood clot.

Erica: Where?

Jessica: In my thigh. And since I'm allergic to heparin -

Erica: You're having surgery to remove it. Who's performing the surgery?

Jessica: My regular doctor.

Erica: Is he a surgeon?

Jessica: He has a background in general surgery, yeah. Look, I don't know if my transplant is riskier than this, but I do know that surgery's always risky, and I just - I don't want to make it through surgery today - only to die in a week.

[Jessica's mother returns]

Jessica: Hey, Mom.

Mother: Hey. You guys have a nice talk?

Jessica: Yep, we sure did. You get ahold of Dad? (Erica leaves)

**Callie is in changing into scrubs when Erica walks in.

Callie: (smiling at her) Hey. (silence) Erica? (Erica slams her locker door shut) Erica?

Erica: Sorry. (sitting) I - I just have some things on my mind. (sighs)

Callie: You want to talk about it?

Erica: I have a heart patient scheduled for a transplant today who's got DVT. She's allergic to heparin, and her regular physician suggested she have surgery to remove it. Her doctor's an idiot. Or he just doesn't care enough about his patients. She shouldn't have DVT removal after a heart transplant. She could have a heart attack before he operates.

Callie: Did you tell her this?

Erica: I wanted to, but her mother came back, and she doesn't want her to know. She probably thinks it'll make her worry more, and since she's an adult, I can't force her to tell her. Since she didn't tell me expressly not to tell her, I suppose I could, but - I just don't want to do that to her. She trusts me. And if I did that, I'm afraid that I could lose her as a patient.

Callie: Okay. (takes Erica's hands) Hey, look at me. Tell her. Not - not her mom. Tell her about the risks of having her heart transplant before her DVT. Maybe she can reschedule.

Erica: It took three years for her to get a heart, and it's already on its way. She's waited more than long enough, and she's got a rare
blood type, so it could take even longer to find her a second heart. Besides, I could do the surgery if she wasn't already scheduled with her other doctor. I just wish she'd told me sooner.

Callie: So why don't you? Erica, just tell her that you can both surgeries today so that she doesn't have to have a second one.

Erica: I suppose I could do that, but - (Callie leans in and kisses her for a long time) What was that for?

Callie: You needed it.

Erica: You know as well as I do, I'm not usually like this.

Callie: Don't kid yourself, Erica. (taps her gently on the nose) You're an emotional disaster waiting to happen.

Erica: I am not.

Callie: (teasing) Sure you are. (quickly kisses her again) Don't worry, I kinda like you that way. (she gets up and leaves)

**Cristina is standing at the nurses' station, looking through charts

Erica: (walking by) Yang, do you want in on a heart transplant and possible DVT removal? Or have you got better things to do?

Cristina: I would love to, Dr. Hahn.

Erica: Good, let's go.

[they enter Jessica's room; her mother's not there]

Jessica: Dr. Hahn. Is something wrong?

Erica: Yes, actually. I need to speak to you about your surgery.

Jessica: Did something happen?

Erica: As far as your scheduled surgery today, no. Your heart's still on its way.

Jessica: Oh, good. So, what's this about?

Erica: Your other surgery - to remove the blood clot in your thigh.

Jessica: What about it?

Erica: There are risks with any surgery, but you having your heart transplant before removing your clot gives you a greater risk of having a heart attack in the next week.

Jessica: So what should I do? I mean, I can't have it sooner, that's the day my mom goes back to work.

Erica: We can remove the clot if you like. Today. Before your transplant. Now, that means you'll have a longer recovery time, and you'll be in surgery longer, but I think if we do both at the same time, you're less likely to have an attack. And, if we do both today, we can just move your surgery up. Your mom won't have to know if you don't want her to.

Jessica: Okay. Okay, let's do it.

Erica: Great. (to Cristina) Yang, make sure the OR's free to move up her surgery, and then prep her later. The heart should be here in about an hour.

**Cristina is talking to Meredith at the nurses' station

Cristina: You know, I wanted to be in on cardio surgeries. But Hahn being nice is just so weird. I can't even call her McSteely.

Meredith: She was nice to you?

Cristina: Not really. But she's letting me in on a surgery and I didn't even have to ask her. She's being weird.

Meredith: Maybe she's just doing what the Chief told her.

Cristina: Yeah, but still - if she goes on a full blown nice streak, I might have to puke.

Meredith: Cristina.

Cristina: I'm just saying. Its weird enough to see her laughing whenever she's with Callie.

Meredith: Cause she acts like a person?

Cristina: Well, yeah. Its just the exact opposite of McSteely-ness.

[Izzie walks over]

Meredith: Hey, Izzie.

Izzie: Hey. Have you guys seen Dr. Hahn?

Cristina: Oh, you are not asking to scrub in. I'm already in on the McSteely transplant, and I didn't even have to ask. There's no way

I'm giving that up.

Izzie: I don't want in on the surgery.

Cristina: Oh. Then what do you want?

Izzie: Bailey's looking for Hahn.

Meredith: Bailey? Why?

Izzie: I don't know. She just saw me and said to let her know if I see her. So you should go tell her.

Cristina: Oh no way.

Izzie: Why not?

Cristina: Because I'm not gonna ruin my chance to get in on McSteely's good side. If she has one. You know, McSteely being nice might be weird, but I don't care, because she's letting me in surgery. Actually letting me work in surgery.

Meredith: How do you know she's gonna let you do anything in the surgery?

Cristina: Because she's doing a DVT removal in the same surgery and didn't ask any other residents to scrub in.

Izzie: Why is she doing a DVT removal?

Cristina: Don't know, don't care. All I care about is the fact that I'm in. I am in with Hahn, and no one's taking that away.

Izzie: Just because she's letting you in one surgery, doesn't mean she likes you.

Cristina: Shut up. Besides, she doesn't have to like me. That's why she's McSteely. She just has to see that I'm good at cardio.

Izzie: Whatever.

Meredith: Why do you think she's being nice to you?

Cristina: I don't know.

Meredith: You think maybe Callie finally said something to her? (Cristina shrugs)

Izzie: That just weirds me out.

Cristina: What? The McSteely/McShifty love affair?

Izzie: Yeah.

Meredith: I didn't think you cared about that sort of thing, Iz.

Izzie: I don't. That's not the part that weirds me out. It's just the two of them together is weird.

Cristina: I don't have a problem with it.

Izzie: You're just saying that because Hahn let you in on surgery.

Cristina: So?

Izzie: Its just its Callie and Hahn. Callie. George's ex-wife. Its just weird. That's all I'm saying.

Cristina: I think you're weird.

Izzie: Whatever. Tell Hahn Bailey wants to see her. (she walks away)

Meredith: You're not gonna tell her, are you?

Cristina: No.

Meredith: Cristina.

Cristina: Ugh. Fine. But if Hahn tries to kick me off surgery because whatever Bailey says is bad, I'm blaming you. (she leaves)

**Erica is waiting outside the ER doors, waiting for the donor heart; Cristina walks out to join her

Erica: Yang, finally. The donor heart will be here any minute. Is Jessica in the OR?

Cristina: Yes, but Dr. Bailey wants to see you. She said there was a complication.

Erica: What?

Cristina: That's all she would tell me.

Erica: Great.

Cristina: I - I could wait here. For the donor heart, I mean. If you wanted to go see her now.

Erica: (sighs) All right. Bring me the heart as soon as it gets here.

Cristina: Yes, Dr. Hahn. (Erica goes back inside)

**Erica walks over to Dr. Bailey in the hall

Erica: You were looking for me?

Dr. Bailey: Yes. There's been a complication with you performing surgery today.

Erica: What do you mean 'complication'?

Dr. Bailey: Now, I don't know why, and if I have to bust heads this early I will, but -

Erica: Would you just tell me what's going on?

Dr. Bailey: The nurses are refusing to do your surgery.

Erica: All of them?

Dr. Bailey: Most of them - but I already spoke to some of the other doctors about switching you nurses for the day. (hands Erica a

piece of paper) If you could just let me know if the others there, at the bottom, would be okay, I can get back to -

Erica: All of these nurses are refusing to be in my surgery today?

Dr. Bailey: Yes.

Erica: Why?

Dr. Bailey: I already told you that I don't know. But maybe it has something to do with your communication skills. Or lack of.

Erica: Excuse me?

Dr. Bailey: I don't know about everyone else, but I do know my feelings when it comes to you. And I think that you're a good doctor.

But you have a problem with the way you talk to people.

Erica: I'm getting a lecture on manners from the doctor who used to be known as the Nazi?

Dr. Bailey: Yes, you are. I may not like you, but since I have to work with you everyday, and since I am Dr. Bailey, I will be honest with you and tell you that you need - need - to work on communicating with people.

Erica: Fine.

Dr. Bailey: So?

Erica: The nurses will be fine.

Dr. Bailey: Good. And since this whole thing seems to come as a shock, I will try - try - to be a nice person for today, and find out

why the nurses are refusing to be in your surgery. I will try.

Erica: Thanks.

Dr. Bailey: No problem. (she leaves)

(Cristina walks up to Erica)

Erica: Is that the heart?

Cristina: Yes. (hands the cooler to her)

Erica: (taking it) Good. Let's get scrubbed in. (they leave)

**Erica, Bailey, Cristina, and Lexie are in surgery

Bailey: That's the last of the clot.

Erica: All right. Let's get a move on, everyone.

[a nurse helps Cristina thread a needle, who moves to start sewing, then hesitates, looking up at Erica)

Erica: Yang, are you going to suture, or are you going to stare at me all day?

Cristina: Sorry, Dr. Hahn. (she sews)

Erica: Nicely done. (she looks at Cristina)

Cristina: Er - thank you, Dr. Hahn.

Erica: Scalpel. (nurse hands her one, and she cuts open Jessica's chest) Let's get her on bypass.

Nurse: Bypass running.

[Erica removes Jessica's heart and replaces it with the donor heart]

Erica: Let's take her off bypass.

Nurse: Bypass off.

[heart beats]

Erica: All right. Good -

Nurse: Her BP's dropping.

Erica: She's rejecting the heart. Push one epi cyclosporine a, azathioprine, and prednisone.

Nurse: Pushing. (pause) BP still dropping.

Erica: Push two epis. (to self) She can't die. She can't die. (Cristina looks at her)

Nurse: Pushing.

[size=7]Erica: Push three epis. (to self) Come on. This girl has never been in love. She - she deserves a chance... I-it's not okay that it should just get snatched out from under her. It's not okay..... Come on, Jessica.[/size]

**Erica is in Jessica's room

Erica: Your body tried to reject the heart at first, but we were able to supress your immune system just in time to stop it. I've prescribed you medication that you'll need to keep your body from rejecting the heart in the next few days.

Jessica: And after that, I should be okay?

[size=7]Erica: Yes. There's a big chance that your body may still reject the heart even after a few days, so we'll wean you off it, and then if it does -

Jessica: Why don't we just cross that bridge when we get to it?

Erica: Are you sure you -

Jessica: I am. And what about - (looks down at her leg) [/size]

Erica: Its fine. (she starts to leave)

Jessica: Dr. Hahn? I hope you don't think I'm being nosy again, but -

Erica: You want to ask me about love again.

Jessica: Is it annoying? That I've asked so much?

Erica: No - no, it's not. Love is - it is really hard - (she sees Callie, at the nurses' station, and pauses too long)

Jessica: Dr. Hahn? (glances at Erica, then at Callie outside the room) Dr. Hahn?

Erica: I'm sorry.

Jessica: It's okay. (pauses) Do you love her?

Erica: What? No. No - no - I just - it's really way too early -

Jessica: Its only too early if you don't actually know the person, that's my philosophy. You do know her, right?

Erica: She's my best friend.

Jessica: Then see? You're fine.

Erica: You don't have a problem - with - ?

Jessica: No. Love is love, and that's all there is to it. Besides, there's not much I can do now, you've already operated on me. (she laughs) Have you always - ?

Erica: Wow, this conversation is getting really personal.

Jessica: I'm sorry. I was born without that part of my brain that tells me when to stop.

Erica: (laughing) Its okay. Its - nice - to talk to someone about this who doesn't know me. I'm not exactly the most popular person around.

Jessica: You seem fine to me.

[size=7]Erica: Honestly? I'm not. There are people who would say I'm not. But, I will answer your question, because I think its important. I think its important that you know love is - everything. Its amazing, and wonderful, and exhilarating - and hard, scary, upsetting - all at the same time. [/size]
Jessica: And worth it?

Erica: Very.

**Bailey is talking to the Chief

Dr. Bailey: I spoke to some of the nurses, and it appeears that - that Dr. Hahn - that her and Dr. Torres - that they might be - together.

Chief: Together?

Dr. Bailey: Yes.

Chief: As in -

Dr. Bailey: As in I don't really need to know the details. I thought at first it was because of Dr. Hahn's attitude, but from what I could read from what was bein said - it appears as though - it might be concievable - that I could have been wrong.

Chief: There's nothing wrong with being wrong, Bailey.

**Erica is talking to the Chief in the hall

Chief: Why did you switch nurses with Shepherd, Sloan, and Torres today?

Erica: Because the nurses that I originally had decided not to work with me.

Chief: And do you know why that is?

Erica: I assumed it was because of me. Of my not being exactly the nicest person around here.

Chief: And did you try to communicate better?

Erica: As well as I could.

Chief: Well, did it work?

Erica: No. A couple of other nurses decided to drop out of my surgery scheduled for this afternoon.

Chief: Why do you - not what did people tell you - but why do you think the nurses dropped out of your surgery?

Erica: What do you mean?

Chief: Erica. Are you - are you dating Dr. Torres?

Erica: I mean this with complete respect - that is none of your damn business.

[size=7]Chief: Actually, it is my damn business. It is my damn business if my head of cardio cannot perform surgeries because of ignorance. It is my damn business if patient's lives are being even more put on the line because people cannot get past prejudice enough to do their job.[/size]

Erica: I -

chief: Not to mention the legalities that come with dating someone in this hospital right now. (she looks at him quizzically) The forms - for - people with - for you - and -

Erica: We're not sleeping together.

Chief: Oh, okay, then. Well - well, I believe I have some nurses to go talk to.

**The Chief is standing at the nurses' station with all of SGH's nursing staff; Bailey, Erica, and Callie are standing next to him

Chief: It is ridiculous. It is ridiculous to think that in 2008, there are still people who are ignorant. It is ridiculous to think that in a hospital - a hospital that is supposed to be full of smart, sophisticated people - that there are people so ignorant as to boycott surgeries based on someone's personal life. (continues indistinct)

[Callie looks over at Erica, whose arms are folded, and whose face looks both angry and hurt]

Callie: (walking over to her) Hey. (takes Erica's hand)

Chief: (continuing) This is a hospital, this is not a high school, and you do not get to choose who you work with. If you don't want to work with my doctors, then I suggest you go find work somewhere else. And I don't want to find anyone else boycotting any more surgeries - for any reason. If you have a personal problem with someone, you come talk to me. That's it people, get out of here. (nursing staff leaves)

Dr. Bailey: So, you two are -

Chief: Miranda.

Dr. Bailey: What? I'm just askin. I can ask. I'm Dr. Bailey. I know everything that goes on in this hospital. But for the first time, I actually missed something. (pauses) You know what I don't get, though, is why none of the nurses refused to work with Dr. Torres.

Chief: Torres, you didn't have anyone boycotting your surgeries?

Callie: No, sir. No I did not.

Erica: I guess Dr. Bailey was right after all. (she walks away)

Callie: I should go talk to her. (she follows after Erica)

Chief: You're always right, Miranda.

Dr. Bailey: Yeah, well, this is one of those rare times that I didn't want to be.

**Erica is outside, sitting on a bench, her face in her hands, and Callie walks up to her

Callie: Hey. (Erica looks up at her, and Callie squeezes her arm lightly) It's okay.

Erica: Its not. Its not okay that people boycotted my surgeries. Its not okay that people have such a problem with me and you that they would boycott my surgeries.

Callie: Prejudice is not something that's just gonna go away.

Erica: Its not just that. Bailey's right. How come no one skipped out on you?

Callie: It doesn't matter. They're just jerks.

Erica: It does matter.

Callie: Okay, maybe that was the wrong thing to say.

Erica: It matters. And its just not okay. Its not okay that this happened - and its not okay that I'm so in love with you - (Callie looks at her) What?

Callie: Nothing. Its just - I always figured I'd be the first to say it. I'm usually the first to say it. I'm - (Erica kisses her, long and passionately; their foreheads rest against each other) I love you, too.

Yeah, mhmm.

Title: Village of the Condemned

***Callie and Erica are in Erica's apartment, lying in bed

[Erica is watching Callie sleep; Callie wakes up moments later]

Erica: Hey.

Callie: Last night was actually pretty -

Erica: Amazing.

Callie: (turning to face her) Do you think we could just stay here today?

Erica: You want to play hooky. (she smiles) You know we can't. We have things to do. Lives to save.

Callie: Doctors get sick too.

Erica: Oh, right. Like anyone would believe were both sick on the same day. (sighs) It's tempting. (they laugh, and continue to talk indistinctly)

***Callie and Erica are at the nurses' station, talking

[A woman walks in, carrying her child, who appears to be unconcious]

Woman: Somebody help me!

[Erica and Callie rush over]

Erica: Let's get him on a stretcher. He's not breathing. (she performs CPR)

Woman: (crying) Oh, God. (trying to get to her son) Zachary!

Callie: (holding her back) Ma'am, ma'am - you need to stay back while we try to revive him.

Boy: (coughing) Mom?

Woman: Oh, thank God!

Erica: He's back.

Callie: What happened?

Woman: I don't know. I just - I found him in the bathroom like that. We live near the hospital, so I just brought him here instead of waiting for an ambulance.

Erica: You did the right thing.

Callie: Where exactly in the bathroom did you find him?

Woman: In the tub. He wasn't breathing, and I don't know CPR. Richard knows all that stuff, but he wasn't home, and - is he gonna be okay?

Erica: We're gonna have to examine him - take a few x-rays and draw some blood. And we're gonna need you to fill out his medical history.

Woman: Okay. Can I see him first?

Erica: Sure. (she walks over to him) She found him in the tub? Explains why his clothes were soaked. Although, why he was in a tub completely clothed -

Callie: He had a lot of bruises.

Erica: Yeah, I know. (the two stand there, watching the mother and son)

***Cristina walks over to Erica in the hall

Cristina: Dr. Hahn? I've got your work-ups on the Tristan boy.

Erica: (takes folder from her and walks over to Callie) Hey, I've got our results.

[they go into the x-ray room and put the films up]

Callie: He's in pretty bad shape. Partially healed fractures - and there's bruising and lacerations on a couple of his organs. We're gonna need Bailey. Look at this kidney.

Erica: (looking at the lab results) Rhabdomyolysis. If we don't treat him for that soon, he could end up with acute renal failure.

Callie: He's got blunt force trauma to his chest.

Erica: It looks like pericardial tamponades.

Callie: It's amazing he's not complaining.

Erica: Or dead. Somebody beat the hell out of this kid.
***Erica and Callie are walking across the hospital

Erica: Did you contact social services?

Callie: Yeah, and I let the Chief know. He wants to know as soon as they get here.

Erica: I really hate following procedure when it comes to this sort of thing.

Callie: I know. It's so hard not to just -

Erica: Make sure the people responsible aren't the next ones I operate on. (passing Cristina) Yang, let's go already!

Cristina: (rushing after her) Yes, Dr. Hahn.

Callie: I'm stuck with George today.

Erica: Would you like me to - ?

Callie: (laughing) Oh, please do.

Erica: (across the nurses' station from Izzie) O'Malley! You're with Dr. Torres today - let's get a move on!

[George catches up to them, and they enter a patient room, which is now occupied by Zachary, along with his mother, father, and sister; Dr. Bailey enters the room after them]

Mother: Is he gonna be okay?

Father: He's fine, Trisha.

Erica: He needs surgery.

Mother: What? What for?

Erica: He has pericardial tamponades.

Mother: What does that mean?

[Erica looks at Cristina]

Cristina: His heart is compressed by large amounts of fluid that are collecting in the pericardial space and are limiting his heart's normal range of motion.

Erica: Given the severity, and because the amount of fluid is so excessive, we'll have to drain it in surgery.

Mother: How did this happen?

Erica: It's possible that he suffered some sort of chest trauma and that's what caused it. It's also possible that the damage to his kidneys caused them to fail, and that can lead to pericardial tamponades as well.

Mother: What - what's wrong with his kidneys?

Dr. Bailey: He has rhabdomyoylsis. It is a result of the toxicity of the destroyed muscle cells in his body. It occurs when an iron-containing pigment found in the skeletal muscle called myoglobin enters the bloodstream and enters the kidneys. It can lead to kidney failure, and also acute renal failure. Rhabdomyoylsis can be treated with medication, which we've put him on, but he also has some lacerations on a couple of his organs. He'll need surgery to take of that, or he could go into shock.

Callie: There are also a some partially healed fractures, including a fractured rib bone. Has he been in any accidents lately?

Mother: No. I mean, some of the other boys can be a little rough when they play with him, but its not like they're trying to hurt him.

Father: It's just boys, you know? He's got to learn to stick up for himself.

Mother: He's too small, Richard.

Father: Oh, come on, Patricia. He's the same size I was at his age, and I could take my older brother. Rebecca's stronger than he is.

[monitors beeping erratically]

Mother: What - what's going on?

Erica: He's going into shock. Can we get a crash cart in here?!?
***Erica, Cristina, and Dr. Bailey are standing outside of Zachary's room

[in Zachary's room]

Father: (yelling) No, Patricia! He'll be fine.

Mother: He needs the surgery, Richard.

Father: He can get it somewhere else!

Mother: He might not make it long enough to get it somewhere else.

Father: I don't care. I don't want them performing his surgery.

Mother: Why not?

Father: Because.

Mother: Is there somthing you're not telling me?

Father: I don't like that doctor.

Mother: Which one?

Father: The blonde one. (continues indistinctly)

[in the hall]

Erica: So now I'm just the blonde one?

Cristina: What's he saying now?

Erica: Why are you here?

Dr. Bailey: Both of you, be quiet. I'm trying to hear.

[from in the room]

Mother: I thought you didn't care about that sort of thing, Richard. You said you didn't.

Father: That was twenty years ago. Now they're all over the place! (they continue to argue)

Erica: Figures. (sighs sullenly)

Cristina: (not looking at her) That sort of thing never really goes away.

[Erica looks at her, surprised]

Dr. Bailey: She's right, you know.

[Erica looks at Cristina, her face full of disbelief]

Cristina: Welcome to the V.O.P. club. (she walks away)

Erica: What the hell did that mean?

Dr. Bailey: Victims of Prejudice.

Erica: Yang? Because she's Asian?

Dr. Bailey: Because she's Jewish. (turns to Erica) If I were you, I would learn to use that heart Callie keeps telling everyone you have. (she leaves)

[Erica stares after them, her face still in shock]

Father: Fine, you want him to have the surgery, then let him have it without me! (he storms out, looking at Erica as he passes her)
***Callie and Erica are in the hall, talking

Callie: You think maybe it's the father?

Erica: He had quite a temper. Tried to make his wife leave when he found out.

Callie: Found out what?

Erica: Found out about us. Actually, I think he only knows about me. I was the only one he mentioned.

Callie: Just because the guy's an ass doesn't mean hes abusing his kid. It could just as easily be his mom. Or someone else in the family. Or even a sitter. Almost anyone, really.

Erica: I realize that, but i still think we should keep an eye on him.

Callie: Okay. How'd he find out, anyway?

Erica: Good question.

***Callie is heading to Zachary's room

[Callie stops suddenly. In Zachary's room, is just him and his father. She leans against the door frame, arms across her chest, listening]

Father: I'm not gonna leave just because Mommy and I had a fight. I promise, I'll be right outside if you need me. (gets up to leave)

Zachary: Hey, Dad. (wriggling his fingers in front of his chin) Who-sah!

Father: (wriggling his fingers in front of his own chin) Who-sah. (laughs, and ruffles his son's hair) Get some rest. (kisses him on the forehead)

[he turns to leave, and sees Callie standing in the doorway]

Callie: I heard you left.

Father: Dr. -

Callie: Torres.

Father: Dr. Torres. He's my son, and I love him. I just -

Callie: I know. This hospital's pretty big on gossip.

Father: Right.

Callie: But hopefully the part about you almost killing Dr. Hahn - the doctor who is about to save your son's life - your son that you love - hopefully that part isn't true.

Father: I hope you don't think - (Callie raises her eyebrows at him) Look, I love my son. I do. And I'm sure that Dr. Hahn is a great doctor, but I just want what's best for my son.

Callie: Dr. Hahn is one of the best heart surgeons in the world. And right now, what's best for your son, is to let her perform surgery.

Father: But she's -

Callie: Gay? Yeah, I know. She's my girlfriend. (she leaves)

***Callie is walking past the waiting room, and she sees Rebecca sitting in a chair alone

Callie: Rebecca? Are you okay?

Rebecca: Is my brother gonna be okay?

Callie: (sitting next to her) He's gonna be fine. We're gonna take him into surgery and get him all fixed up.

Rebecca: And then he'll be okay?

Callie: It might take a while for him to get better, but he'll be okay. (silence from Rebecca) Is there something wrong?

Rebecca: My parents are fighting again. They always fight about Zachary.

Callie: Well, once he gets out of surgery, I'm sure they'll make up.

Rebecca: Maybe. I just hope my daddy doesn't leave again.

Callie: You mean like he did earlier today when your mom and dad were fighting?

Rebecca: No, I mean my other daddy.

Callie: Your other dad?

Rebecca: Before Trisha and Richard became my mommy and daddy. My mom and dad had a fight. My daddy left, and he never came back. My mom couldn't take care of me on her own, so I went to foster care.

Callie: And Trisha and Richard adopted you?

Rebecca: (nodding) They didn't think they could have kids, so they got me instead. And then they had Zachary. They said he was a miracle. But they always fight over him.

[Rebecca's mother sees them and walks over]

Mother: Rebecca! I have been looking all over for you.

Callie: It's okay, she was just a little worried about your son, but I told her he should be fine.

Mother: Thank you. I'm sorry about my husband.

Callie: Its okay. How did he find out?

Mother: He said one of the nurses told him.

Callie: He didn't happen to, uh, tell you which one, did he?

Mother: (shakes her head) Sorry. I wish he had.

[Callie starts to leave]

Mother: (to self) Looks like I was, right, though.

Callie: (turning back to her) I'm sorry - right about what?

Mother: Oh, I just - I thought it was you. You know, you and Dr. Hahn.

Callie: What makes you say that?

Mother: I saw you two, in the hall. After Richard left. It was just - the way you two looked at each other, I thought you were -

Callie: You mean you don't mind? Even though your husband does?

Mother: I didn't know. He told me - when we first started dating, he told me he didn't. It was really important to me that he didn't. (Callie looks at her quizzically) I have a sister who's gay. And I really wish I did know who told him.

Callie: Thanks. I should go check on your son. We're gonna start his surgery soon.
***Cristina is taking Zachary down to the OR

Cristina: The OR was a little busy, but McSteely said we could get the surgery done in time.

Nurse: Right. Is that all of the doctors, or just her?

Cristina: What do you know?

Nurse: What?

Cristina: (stopping suddenly) You, nurses, boycotted McSteely's surgeries. What do you know?

Nurse: I don't know what you're talking about.

Cristina: Oh, please. Everyone knows about it.

Nurse: You should know. You're the one who started the whole McSteely thing.

Cristina: You mean it was because she's McSteely, not because she's gay? I know McSteely can be a bit**. Probably better than anyone else - I know. But you don't skip out on someone's surgeries just because they're gay - or because they're mean. Especially not cardio. People's lives are at stake, that's why this is a hospital. Besides, even with all her screwed up McSteely-ness, she's still a good doctor.

Nurse: I know. I never skipped out her. I just heard the other nurses talking.

Cristina: Did they all use her being gay as an excuse - because she's McSteely?

Nurse: No. Some of them were really put off by her and Dr. Torres. Saying it wasn't right, or whatever. But I don't care - I mean, it's hard enough for people to have a relationship as it is, without people saying that it's wrong for you to be with who you're with.

Cristina: Did you tell any of the other nurses that?

Nurse: Of course. I was defending them the entire time. It - (she hesitates)

Cristina: What?

Nurse: Well, it would be kind of bad if I didn't. I have two moms.

Cristina: Whatever. We have to go, or McSteely's gonna put me on the table next. (they continue to the OR)

***Inside the OR, Cristina, George, and the nurses are waiting for Erica, Callie, and Bailey

[Erica and Callie are washing their hands, talking and smiling; Dr. Bailey is putting on her mask]

Nurse 1: (looking at Erica and Callie) Look at them. They don't even care how wrong it is.

Nurse 2: Please. If someone can make McSteely smile, then they're a miracle worker.

Nurse 3: Whatever. I just can't wait for the rest of this week to be over.

Nurse 1: Why's that?

Nurse 3: I'm transferring to Mercy West.

Nurse 2: You're kidding. You're transferring?

Nurse 3: Sunday's my last day at Seattle Grace.

Nurse 1: Okay, I may not like the two of them together, but I'm not going that far. Two gay doctors aren't going to get in the way of me doing my job.

Cristina: Good riddance.

Nurse 3: Excuse me?

Cristina: You heard me. You're probably the one who started the boycott.

Nurse 3: So what if I was?

[Bailey walks into the OR]

Cristina: What McSteely and McShifty do in their personal lives is their business. You can't say it's wrong for them to be who they are. (Cristina suddenly leaves, and walks out of the OR, towards Erica and Callie, who just finished putting on their masks]

Nurse 3: What is she, gonna run and tell on me?

Dr. Bailey: Ya'll need to mind your own business.

[Cristina walks up to Erica}

Erica: Is there a problem, Yang?

Cristina: Don't be nice to me anymore.

Erica: Excuse me?

Cristina: Don't be nice to me anymore.

Erica: What makes you think I was being nice to you?

Cristina: You let me in surgeries.

Erica: I was doing my job.

Cristina: You complimented my work.

Erica: (gives Callie a look) I was being honest.

Cristina: Whatever. I just wanted to tell you that I don't care if you're McSteely or not. And I don't care if you guys have your little - whatever. I care about being a doctor - a surgeon. A cardio surgeon. So be mean to me if you want. I don't care, as long as you teach me.

Erica: (raising her eyebrows) You have issues, Yang. (she and Callie laugh and walk past her into the OR)

***Zachary has just gotten out of surgery; Social Services has arrived; The parents, Callie, Erica, Cristina, George, the Chief, and Bailey are in a conference room

Father: What's this all about? Who are you people?

Man: I'm from Social Services.

Mother: Social Services?

Man: Due to the extent of your son's injuries, the doctors followed procedure and contacted Social Services -

Father: (to Erica) You know, I knew you were trouble. I should've taken Zachary out of here when I had the chance.

Mother: Richard!

Father: Damnit, Trisha, don't you get it? They think we're abusing our son! (slams fist onto the table)

Man: Sir, you're gonna need to calm down, so we can all talk about this.

Father: Calm down? You think you can just accuse somebody of something and then expect them to calm calm down because you say so?!

Chief: Look, why don't we all sit down, and try to discuss this like adults?

Father: Why don't you sit down?!

Mother: (grabbing his arm) Richard. Sit down. Please.

[Erica, Callie, the Chief, the parents, Dr. Bailey, and the man from Social Services all sit around the table; George and Cristina stand next to the door]

Father: Look, would somebody just please explain to me what the hell is going on?

Erica: Your son had a lot of injuries.

Father: (pointing at Erica) Anyone but you. (under his breath) Stupid dy**. [they all look at him]

Mother: (slaps him on the back of the head) Richard! (quietly) When we get through this, and we get home, you and I are gonna have a long talk. (she turns back to everone else) I'm sorry.

Father: Don't apologize to them.

Mother: Don't you tell me what to do.

Father: You are my wife. He is my son. Look, I don't what happened to Zachary either, but I love my son. I love both of my children. I love my family more than anything.

Callie: (whispering to Erica) I'll be right back.

[she gets up and leaves the room]

***Callie walks over to the nurses' station, where Meredith is at the computer

Callie: (to Meredith) Hey, you haven't seen a little girl around here anywhere, have you? She's maybe nine, with long, blonde hair.

Meredith: No. Is she missing?

Callie: Sort of. Will you keep a look out for her? Page me if you see her?

Meredith: Sure.

Callie: Thanks.

***Back in the conference room, Social Services is questioning Zachary's parents

Father: No! I love my son!

[SS] Man: Sir, would you just answer the question?

Father: No, I never hit my son!

***Callie checks the supply closet, the bathroom, and two on-call rooms for Rebecca

[Lexie, who has been watching all of this in amazement, walks over to her]

Lexie: Dr. Torres. Are you looking for something?

Callie: Yeah. I'm looking for a little girl. She's got long, blonde hair. She's about nine years old.

Lexie: Do you want some help?

Callie: That would be really nice. Her name's Rebecca. Just look - she could be anywhere. And try to get anybody who isn't busy to help.

[they start to go in opposite directions]

***In the conference room, things are getting out of hand

Father: (lunging at Erica) You stupid bit**!

[His wife, Bailey, George, and the Chief all have to hold him back]

Bailey: Sir, you need to calm down.

Father: Or what?

Chief: Or we are going to have to security escort you out of the hospital.

Father: That's not necessary. I can see myself out! (he leaves, slamming the door behind him)
Mother: I'm sorry. He's not usually like this. I haven't seen him this upset since his parents died.

[SS] Man: So he's never been violent before?

Mother: No. At least, not like this. I just - he really loves Zachary and Rebecca, and I think its hard for him. (to Erica) I'm sorry for the way he treated you.

***Lexie walks over to a nurses' station

Lexie: (to nurse) Hey. Have you seen a little girl? Blonde hair? Maybe nine or ten?

Nurse: Yeah, I just saw a little girl with really long blonde hair head towards the patient rooms.

Lexie: Okay, thanks. Can you page Dr. Torres for me?

[she walks down the hall to the patient rooms, and hears an erratic beeping; she runs into the room]

***The man from Social Services is now talking to Zachary's mother

Mother: No, we never abuse our children. I mean, I always wondered how Zachary got all his scratches and bruises, but I just thought the other boys in the neighborhood were playing too rough with him. I mean, I just assumed -

[Erica's, Bailey's, Cristina's and George's pagers all go off]

***Callie runs into Zachary's room, where Lexie is struggling against Rebecca

Lexie: Dr. Torres! She was trying to suffocate him! (Callie runs over to Zachary to make sure he's breathing)

Rebecca: You stupid bit**! Get off of me!

Callie: He's not breathing! (starts CPR)

[Rebecca jumps on top of Lexie]

Rebecca: (choking Lexie) Get out of here, you stupid ****ing who**! (screams)

[Callie grabs Rebecca and pulls her off Lexie, and she immediately starts to kick Callie; Lexie goes to help her]

Callie: I'm fine! Take care of him! (she grabs Rebecca, who is screaming, and pins her to the ground]

[Bailey, Erica, George, and Cristina all burst into the room]

Bailey: Torres, what the hell are you doin to that girl?

Callie: She was trying to suffocate him.

Lexie: (monitor beeping regularly) He's back!

Rebecca: No! (she pushes Callie off her and screams like a banshee, and runs toward Zachary's bed)

***Rebecca is on a stretcher, strapped down, screaming and kicking

[Rebecca's mother walks down the hall and sees her]

Mother: What the hell are you doing?

Rebecca: (crying) Mommy!

Callie: Ma'am, we're very sorry to have to tell you this, but your daughter had to be restrained.

Mother: Restrained? Why?

Callie: She was trying to suffocate your son. We believe she may have been the one who's been hurting him.

Mother: (sobbing) Oh, God.

Rebecca: Mommy! I wanna go home! (Cristina, George, and two nurses start to wheel her away)

Mother: Where - where are you taking her?

Callie: They're taking her to Psych for a consult. The doctors there will talk to her, and then they can talk to you. Then you can all try to figure out the best way to get her the help that she needs.

Rebecca: Mommy! No! Don't let them take me! (Mother sobs)

Callie: Just trust us. She needs help.

Mother: (crying) How did this happen? How did I let this happen?

Callie: It's not your fault. It's probably been coming for awhile. Would - would you like to see your son?

Mother: He's okay?

[Callie walks her to Zachary's room, and stands at the doorway. His mother walks over to him and sits on the edge of his bed. She kisses him, and holds him, crying]

[Zachary's father walks toward Callie from the end of the hall]

Callie: Mr. Tristan.

Father: Dr. Torres. Look, I'm sorry about the way I acted earlier. I was an ass.

Callie: It's not my place to judge.

Father: Right. Is everything - okay?

Callie: Why don't you find out for yourself?

[he walks into the room]

Father: Trisha.

Mother: Richard. (she hugs him, crying)

[they talk indistinctly as Callie walks away]

***Callie is in the resident room, on the couch, with an ice pack on the back of her head

[Erica walks in]

Erica: (to Callie) You gonna be okay?

Callie: (groans) I think I have a concussion.

Erica: Really?

Callie: No. But I wish I did.

Erica: Why?

Callie: (laughing) So we could play hooky tomorrow. (they laugh) How'd you turn out? Everything okay?

Erica: She elbowed me in the stomach, little monster. But I'll be okay.

Callie: Yeah, she was pretty scary. I never saw that coming.

Erica: Yeah, me neither. How does a kid go from being a kid to being a homicidal maniac? It's so not supposed to be like that.

Callie: Yeah, no kidding.

***Erica and Callie are at Callie/Cristina's apartment

[Cristina walks in]

Callie: Hey.

Cristina: Oh, hey.

Callie: I hope you don't mind. I mean, you said you didn't, so -

Cristina: Whatever. (she heads to her room)

[Callie looks at Erica]

Erica: (sighing) Yang - Cristina. (Cristina turns to her, surprised) We were gonna - Callie and I were gonna watch a movie on my laptop. (looks at Callie, then back at Cristina) Would you - would you like to join us?
Brooke: [on how she prepared for Erica falling for Callie] It's not rocket science! She's hot!

Posted Image

Brooke: That was a nice segue...did you see that one coming? - I've heard about them. My niece does the google alert thing - ... Yeah - the Callica youtube videos and stuff like that.... Yes, the kiss over and over and over and over - yes, to that song I kissed a girl and I liked it...You know all that. Yeah, mhmm.

Title: A Blow to the Heart

****Callie and Erica are snoozing on Cristina's couch

[Cristina looks at them, then leaves, shutting the door loudly behind her; the two immediately wake up]

Callie: (groaning) What time is it?

Erica: Early.

Callie: Why does my head feel like it got hit by a cement truck?

Erica: Two words - lots of alcohol.

Callie: That's more than two words.

Erica: Whatever, I'm going to back to sleep.

Callie: (sitting up) Oh, no you're not.

Erica: (her eyes closed) Why not?

Callie: Because I said so. Come on, Er, time to get up. (Erica groans) Let's go, bedhead.

Erica: (sitting up suddenly) I do not have bedhead.

Callie: (laughing) You so do.

****Cristina is in the ER with George, Alex, and their interns

Cristina: Two, Three, you're in the pit today. Four - Dr. Stevens needs to borrow an extra intern for the day. Go to the clinic. (Four doesn't move) Now!

[Four groans, and leaves]

Cristina: Where's One?

Lexie: Uh, charting - I think.

Cristina: Good. Now what are two doing just standing around? Get moving.

George: You make a pretty good Nazi.

Cristina: I do, don't I?

Alex: Never thought I'd say this, but maybe I should take after you.

Cristina: Oh, no, you can't.

Alex: Why?

Cristina: Because, I already called dibs on Nazi last year. You can't Nazi the Nazi.

Alex: You're not the Nazi.

Cristina: I so am.

George: Technically, -

Cristina: Oh, shut up, George. You know, when I want an opinion on how to be the exact opposite of the Nazi, then I'll come to you. (Alex laughs)

George: Hey, I don't have to yell at my interns to get them to listen to me. (he walks over to one of his interns)

[Alex laughs again]

Cristina: Why are you laughing?

Alex: You got schooled by Bambi.

Cristina: I did not get schooled by -

[A young girl walks into the ER, bleeding, and collapses. Cristina and Alex run over]

Cristina: (picking her up) I need a stretcher!

[they put her onto one}

Cristina: (to Alex) Get away.

Alex: What? No way.

Cristina: I have dibs, I got to her first.

Alex: You can't call dibs on a patient. Besides, I got here first.

Cristina: Oh get over it, Alex, she's my patient. Besides, I would let you have her, except she's just gonna be mine again anyway, so there's no point in you even trying.

Alex: What are you talking about?

Cristina: Andraia Moretti. She's a heart patient.

Alex: How do you know?

Cristina: She's - she was - a patient of Burke's.

Alex: Whatever. That doesn't mean you -

Cristina: I am cardio.

Alex: Only if Hahn says so.

[Erica walks over]

Erica: Why hasn't anyone intubated this patient yet?

Cristina: I was just about to, Dr. Hahn.

Erica: Well then, get to it, Yang.

[she intubates Andraia]

Erica: Karev, don't you have any work to do? Or should I find you some?

[Alex groans, and leaves]

Erica: What do we know about the patient?

Cristina: Andraia Moretti. She came in a couple years ago with heart problems. Dr. Burke inserted a CRT, and was placed on outpatient care. She walked into the ER this morning and collapsed -

Erica: She is drenched in blood. (lifts up Andraia's shirt) God. It looks like someone beat her with a baseball bat.
Erica: These cuts are pretty nasty.

Cristina: I'm getting to it now, Dr. Hahn. (she starts to sew)

Erica: Good. Once you've examined her, I want x-rays and a CT. Get a consult from Sheperd. Then get me her history and blood type, and get her a bag. Put her on some fluids, they may help bring her back to conciousness. And make sure you check her CRT to see that its functioning properly. (she starts to leave, then turns back around) Oh, and Yang? You might want to change.

[Cristina looks down at her scrubs, covered in Andraia's blood, and Erica leaves]

****Erica is at a nurses' station, looking through Andraia's medical history

[Callie, walking down the stairs, sees her and walks over]

Callie: Hey.

Erica: Hey. I may need you today. I've got an unconcious patient with extensive injuries. Yang's running x-rays.

Callie: Okay. Just let me know when you're sure.

Erica: She may turn out to be just yours, though, after all.

Callie: Why was she given to you?

Erica: Yang was in the ER when she came in. And she's a heart patient. Burke's patient. (Callie raises her eyebrows, and Erica turns back to the files)

Callie: Looks like she's your patient now.

Erica: Yeah. Unless she wakes up and decides she'd rather have him come out and treat her.

Callie: I'm sure that won't happen.

Erica: How do you know?

[size=7]Callie: I just have a feeling. Today is gonna be a good day. (whispering enticingly) On-call room later?

Erica: (raises her brows, then smirks provocatively ) Sure. (she leaves[/size])

Man: (from behind Callie) You better get to work, young lady.

Callie: (spinning around) Hey! (falling against the wall of the nurses' station) What - what - what are you doing here?

Man: What? No hug for your old man?

Callie: Oh, o-of course! (she hugs him quickly) So, what - what are you doing here?

Callie's Dad: Can't a man come visit his daughter every once in a while?

Callie: Is, uh, is anybody else here?

Callie's Dad: Your mom's on the phone - she'll be here in a minute. So, how are you? You okay?

Callie: Yeah, of course, I'm fine.

Callie's Dad: You sure? Because I know we hadn't come and seen you since you told us about you and George -

Callie: Oh, it's okay. Really, I'm fine. Better than fine, actually.

[Callie's mom walks in]

Callie: (faux-cheerfully) Mom - Mom! Hi!

Callie's Mom: (hugging her) Hi, sweetie.

Callie: So, you know, Dad still hasn't told me why you're here.

Callie's Mom: Well, we wanted to check up on you, you know, since George and you split, and we thought we'd have lunch together later, maybe. If you can.

Callie: Oh, I - I don't know. I sort of had plans. (sees Erica walking past, and grabs her) With Erica. This is my friend, Erica, Erica Hahn. Erica, these are my parents.

Erica: (shaking hands with them) It's nice to meet you. Callie's told me alot about you.

Callie's Mom: I hope she didn't tell you anything bad.

Erica: No, nothing like that.

Callie's Mom: You know, maybe we should all have lunch together.

Callie: I'm not so sure if that's a good idea -

Erica: I don't have a problem with it.

Callie's Mom: Great, it's all settled then.

Callie: (falsely excited) Great! (laughs) Um, could you just - one second? (she leads Erica into an on-call room, and shuts the door) You don't have to do this, you know.

Erica: They don't know, do they? (Callie doesn't respond) God, I cannot believe I let this happen.

Callie: Let what happen?

Erica: Ever since we started dating, I've been living in a bubble. A fantasy dream world. I can't believe I was so stupid.

Callie: You're not stupid.

Erica: I am. I am. I'm in love with a woman who is supposed to be in love with me -

Callie: I am.

Erica: Oh, really? Then why doesn't your family know about us? Why is it that they don't even have a clue who I am?

Callie: I was gonna tell them.

Erica: Yeah, right. (she starts to leave)

Callie: Erica -

Erica: Don't touch me. Just don't. (she leaves)
****Erica is in the resident room, deep in thought

[Cristina walks in]

Cristina: Dr. Hahn?

Erica: (startled) Yang. What is it?

Cristina: I think you should come and take a look at this.

Erica: (sighs) You can't just tell me what it is? (getting up) All right, let's go, Yang.

[they head to the ER; Andraia, still intubated, is now in a dressing gown]

Erica: Why is the patient still down here?

Cristina: I was following a bruising pattern, and I think you should take a look. (lifts up Andraia's gown)

Erica: Oh my. Okay, run a thorough pelvic exam, and get a kit. I'll contact the police. (she leaves)

**** Erica is at a nurses' station

[she hangs up the phone, as the Chief passes by]

Erica: Richard. I need to talk you. Alone.

[they head down and into his office]

Chief: Erica. Is there something wrong?

Erica: I have a CRT heart patient, who's in critcal condition, although there's not much I can do until we get all of her results back.

Chief: Okay. So what's going on?

Erica: It looks like she was raped and almost beaten to death. I already contacted SPD, but I thought you'd want to know. I also told them that she may have to undergo surgeery before they can see her.

Chief: I'm not sure that was a good idea.

Erica: So, I should just wait until they get here and hope she doesn't die before then?

**** Erica is walking down the hall

[Cristina walks up to her]

Cristina: I have Andraia's results. (handing them to her)

Erica: (taking them from her) Let's take a look at what we're dealing with here. (holds an x-ray film up to the light) Broken femur, (holds up another one) broken jaw - I'll need Sloan on that. Great. What about her consult with Sheperd?

Cristina: He said she may have a mild concussion, but nothing too severe. Dr. Hahn -

Erica: Yes?

Cristina: Her CRT's malfunctioning.

Erica: Of course it is.

Cristina: Excuse me?

Erica: (getting up) I'm having a chitty day, Yang. Of course her CRT would be malfunctioning, because no one in Seattle Grace can ever have a good day. As if this girl didn't have enough problems. (she walks past, and out the door, Cristina staring after her in disbelief)

[Meredith walks by]

Meredith: Hey. Hello? Earth to Cristina?

Cristina: I think McSteely just went from bitchy to depressed. And I care. (her pager goes off)

[Cristina runs to Andraia's room; Andraia is choking, fighting against the intubation. Cristina takes her off intubation. She coughs up a little blood]

Cristina: (cleaning blood off her) Um, that's normal for intubation. Especially with a broken jaw. We drained the cut earlier, of course, but since -

Andraia: Dr. Yang.

Cristina: You remember me?

Andraia: Of course. You worked with Dr. Burke when I got my CRT. I - I broke my jaw?

Cristina: You don't remember what happened?

Andraia: No.

**** Erica is in the hall, and she walks up to Callie

Erica: My heart patient's CRT is malfunctioning, so she's critical, and I need to get her into surgery as soon as possible. Her left femur's broken. Are you free?

Callie: Yeah, sure.

Erica: Good, I'll see you in the Or. (she walks away)

Callie: (running after her) Hey. Hey, (pulls her into an empty on-call room) would you talk to me?

Erica: Why?

Callie: Because I don't like us fighting.

Erica: You want to talk? Okay, fine lets talk. You wanna talk about why you didn't tell them about me? Or how we never go out on real dates like an actual couple?

Callie: We've gone out on real dates.

Erica: More than once?

Callie: You're right, I guess we haven't really gone out a lot.

Erica: And what about the whole Mark thing?

Callie: That's not fair.

Erica: You're right, it's not. It's not fair that I keep giving. I can't be in a relationship by myself! I want you, but I don't want only half of you. I want all of you, with me, until it is my turn to be on an operating table, okay? But I'm not gonna pretend that I know you want the same thing.

Callie: I do.

Erica: You didn't even add my name to your form.

Callie: I was going to.

Erica: Really? It's been almost three weeks, Callie. I think if you were really planning on doing it, you would have by now. So you need to decide what is that you really want. Either you want to be with me, or you don't! (she storms out)

**** Cristina is talking to Andraia

Cristina: You have a black eye, which we put ice on earlier to reduce the swelling, which is probably why you don't seem to have any trouble seeing. You may have a mild concussion, and you have some severe bruising and cuts on your chest, torso, and your lower abdomen. There were also a few shards of glass in stuck in your abdomen. I was able to remove them, and stitch you up.

Andraia: But what happened?

Cristina: How much do you remember?

Andraia: Nothing. I mean, not really. Bits and pieces. Not enough to tell myself what happened. So why don't you just tell me?

Cristina: (sighing) We're not sure, but we suspect that you might have been raped and beaten. (Andraia cries, and Cristina steps closer to her) But - we don't have the results of your rape kit back yet, so we could be wrong. (Andraia leans against her, crying) We could be wrong.
**** Callie is at lunch with her parents

Callie's Mom: So, where is your friend, Erica?

Callie: Oh, I think she got caught up in surgery or something.

**** Andraia has finally calmed down, and Cristina is talking to her

Andraia: Why can't I remember anything?

Cristina: Most likely, you have a concussion. You may suffered a superficial head wound during your attack. That would explain why you lost conciousness, and it would also be the cause of your concussion.

Andraia: Superficial? So that means I'll be okay, right?

Cristina: You had a CT scan while you were unconcious, but we couldn't find anything wrong with your brain, so as far as that goes, yes.

Andraia: As far as that goes?

Cristina: Your CRT is malfunctioning.

Andraia: Malfunctioning? But how is that possible? I feel fine. I mean, I don't, but my heart feels fine.

Cristina: You haven't had any arrhythmiatic breathing since you've gotten here, but it's possible that, because you were intubated, and a had a machine breathing for you, because you weren't doing anything to over-exert yourself, that you may feel fine. You may feel fine, but we still need to perform surgery, because you are not fine, and you may not feel fine later. One of the lead wires in your CRT is torn, and that's what's causing your malfunction. Dr. Hahn will replace your wire with a new one, and Drs. Torres and Sloan will repair your leg and your jaw. You'll be heading into surgery in a little while, and we've contacted the police, but Dr. Hahn told me that they won't be talking to you until after you've come out of surgery. All the doctors will be working on you at the same time, so that you can get a chance to rest before talking to the police.

Andraia: Dr. Hahn? Who's Dr. Hahn? Why won't Dr. Burke be performing the surgery?

Cristina: As of last year, Dr. Hahn is now our head of cardiothorasics, and Dr. Burke is - he no longer works here.

Andraia: Is she good? Is she as good as Dr. Burke?

Cristina: She's - she's a very good doctor.

Andraia: (after a minute) Will - will I get my results back before I go into surgery? I mean, I just - I just need to know if - if I can get them back before surgery.

Cristina: I'll see what I can do.

**** Cristina is talking to Meredith at lunch

Meredith: I thought you had surgery.

Cristina: McSteely pushed it back for the patient.

Meredith: Isn't that risky? I thought you said her CRT was malfunctioning.

Cristina: It's a little risky, but the patient wants to wait, and we can't exactly force her to have surgery. Unless she was mental, which she isn't. She's just a kid - she's sixteen.

Meredith: She's sixteen? Where are the parents?

Cristina: She doesn't have any.

Meredith: She doesn't have any parents?

Cristina: They died. I guess she went to live with her aunt, who never paid her any attention, and she took care of herself. She went to a judge and got emancipated.

Meredith: Now see? That's what I should have done.

Cristina: Yeah, right. Like a judge would have ever emancipated you. Besides, this all happened before she ever came to Seattle Grace the first time.

Meredith: So she got emancipated at fourteen?

Cristina: Fifteen. Its rare, but there are judges who'll agree to it when they're that age.

Meredith: Did you find out what was wrong with McSteely yet?

Cristina: No. It's weird. I think she's in the dark place. She's not even bothering to be mean to me.

Meredith: You think maybe she and Callie had a fight?

Cristina: McSteely and McShifty on the rocks? You know, I hate to say it, but I think they like each other too much. But I guess it's possible. It's not like either of them have a real good history with others. (getting up) I've gotta go check on her results.

Meredith: But it hasn't even been two hours.

Cristina: I know.

**** Cristina walks over to Erica, who is eyeing the surgical board

Erica: Are those the results of the rape kit?

Cristina: Yes. Positive for fluids. Everything's ready for SPD when they get here.

Erica: Okay. There is an open spot in a half hour. Prep'll be a little rushed, but I think we should move her up, since we got the results back so quickly.

Cristina: How did we get the results back so fast?

Erica: That would be a little thing I like to call 'assertive encouragement'. Let Torres know we're moving the surgery again, and I'll talk to Sloan. Then get Andraia to the OR.

**** Cristina is talking to Callie in the hall

Callie: I'll have to move another surgery, but it should be fine. (Cristina starts to walk away) Is, uh, is Erica - is she okay?

Cristina: I -

Callie: She's not speaking to me.

Cristina: Uh -

Callie: We had a fight. Is she okay?

Cristina: How should I know?

Callie: Well, because I would assume she'd be taking it on you if she wasn't. That's how she -

Cristina: I know. She's not, though. (she starts to leave, then turns around) No, she's not okay, but she's not taking it out on me.

Callie: Seriously?

Cristina: She's - okay. As a person, I mean. She's okay. But she is not okay right now. She's not being mean to me, which should tell you how not okay she is.

Callie: You sound like you care.

Cristina: I know. I think I might be coming down with something. (Callie raises her eyebrows, and Cristina walks away)
**** Cristina walks into Andraia's room

Andraia: Dr. Yang.

Cristina: I have the results of your -

Andraia: I don't need them.

Cristina: We pushed back your surgery so you could get your results, and now you're -

Andraia: I remembered. I - I remembered everything. (pauses) It was dark -

Cristina: You don't have to tell me if you don't want to.

Andraia: I do. I could die in surgery. I could die, and no one but me would ever know exactly what happened. Because they're certainly not gonna find out from him. (she pauses) It was dark, and I was supposed to meet my girlfriends. We were gonna celebrate - I had finally caught up to the rest of them in school, and next year I - I would be able to start with them, without having to take summer school. They offered to pick me up, but I wanted to walk. I love being able to walk ever since my CRT operation.

Cristina: I remember. You said it was the first thing you were going to do when you recovered.

Andraia: I should have let them pick me up. (her voice breaks) I should have let them pick me up.

Cristina: You couldn't have known -

Andraia: (crying) I - I did. I mean, not before. It was only about a second before it happened. I know it's cliche, but but you know how in the movies, before someone gets attacked, when they're alone, and it's dark, and they feel like there's someone following them? (pauses) He came up behind me, and put a bag over my head. And I couldn't breathe. I tried - I tried to fight him off, and I fell. I pulled the bag off, but before I could get up, he was on top of me. I kicked him, and pushed him off of me - I think I surprised him. And I got up, and I tried to run, and he hit me with something in the back. I fell, and he punched me in the face. And then he - he (her voice breaks, and tears stream down her face)

[Cristina sits on the edge of her bed, and squeezes her hand]

Cristina: You don't -

Andraia: (crying) I do. I have to -

Cristina: You can tell the police when they get here.

Andraia: We both know I might not make it that long.

Cristina: You - you can make it.

Andraia: (sniffing) But if I don't - just please (she grabs Cristina's hand) just please, let me do this.

Cristina: Are you sure you wouldn't rather tell someone -

Andraia: (shakes her head) No.

Cristina: Okay.

Andraia: (after a moment) He - he got up, and I tried to get up again, and he threw me against a wall. And he picked something up - whatever he had had before, I guess, because hit me with it. He kept hitting me - I'm not sure what it was exactly he was hitting me with, but it was hard, and cold, like metal. And I fell back to the ground. I thought - I thought he was going to kill me, and I stopped moving - I couldn't move, and I don't know why. And then, he - he just left. And I - why couldn't I move?

Cristina: It's not - uncommon, for someone to go into shock when - when -

Andraia: When they're raped? (after a minute) I lay there for a little while - I wasn't really sure he left. I guess he thought I was dead, or he probably wouldn't have left. I got up, finally, and I couldn't really see all that well, but I think I must've run into an alley when I tried to get away, because I could feel the walls of the buildings on both sides of me. And I got to the street, and it was light out. It hadn't felt like it had it had lasted that long. There was this sign, and I walked toward it, and I could make out the 'H' on it, so I kept walking, and I followed all the signs until I got here.

Cristina: How many signs were there?

Andraia: I don't know. Maybe four or five. Maybe more. I guess I got lucky, being just down the street from a hospital.

Cristina: You're lucky you made it all the way.

Andraia: I didn't think I would. I felt like I was going to die. I almost - I almost gave up. The sun was in my eyes, and I just thought - I thought that it was good, that the sun was all around me, and that it was bright, and that I could feel how warm it was, and it made me feel better that I thought the last thing I would get was sun. I fell, and I saw the hospital. I almost didn't get up, I just wanted so much for it to go away - but I couldn't. I couldn't - not when I was so close. So I got up, and walked until I saw the Emergency Room sign. (pauses) I - I drew a picture. (she grabs a notebook from under her pillow) I had one of the nurses bring it to me. When I remembered his face. I - I know it was dark, but he was so close to when he was -

Cristina: I - I have to take you to surgery now. I'm sorry.

**** Cristina is washing her hands for surgery when Alex and Lexie walk in

Alex: Hey. Looks like I get in on the patient anyway.

Cristina: Why?

Alex: Callie needed a resident, so when I found out, I volunteered.

Lexie: No one cares, Alex.

Cristina: Yeah, no one cares, Alex.

[George walks in]

Alex: Oh this oughtta be interesting. Bambi, his ex, and the woman he'll never live up to, all in the same OR.

George: Why don't you try really getting testicular cancer so I can personally cut off your balls? (Cristina snorts)

Lexie: So your Dr. Sloan's resident? (she puts on her mask)

George: For today. (to Cristina) Hey, why is Dr. Hahn having Sloan and Ca - Torres perform surgery at the same time as her?

Alex: Look at that, Bambi can't even say her name.

George: Would you shut up already? (Alex puts on his mask and heads into the OR)

Cristina: The patient asked her to. She said she wouldn't have surgery otherwise.

[they head into the OR]

**** Erica, Cristina, Callie, George, Alex, and Lexie are in the OR; Erica has just replaced Andraia's wire

Erica: All right, Yang, close her up. (Cristina begins to suture) Where is Sloan?

Mark: (walking in) Prompt, O'Malley. Good. (looking at Cristina closing Andraia's chest) Closing already? You're working awfully fast today, Dr. Hahn.

Erica: Just the same as any other day.

[Cristina finishes sewing]

Cristina: Done.

Erica: All right. (pager goes off) Yang, keep a close eye on the patient, and page me if anything happens. I'll be right back. (she leaves)

Mark: Guess it's our turn to tango, Torres.

[they begin to operate]

Callie: Okay, she's set. Now I just - (pager goes off) Damn it. Can you continue without me?

Mark: I'm sure Dr. Yang can close for you.

Callie: (nodding) All right. (she heads for the door) Karev, let's go.

[they leave, and Cristina closes Andraia's leg]

Mark: (to Cristina) Any idea why the patient refused to have surgery unless it was all done at once, Dr. Yang?

**** The Chief is speaking to Erica

Chief: SPD is here. They realize you're still operating on the patient, and they wanted to know how close you were to finishing.

Erica: Her CRT wire's replaced, and Sloan and Torres are working on her now. But she will still need to -

Chief: Why are Sloan and Torres operating on your patient, and why didn't anyone inform me about this earlier?

Erica: She refused surgery otherwise. And you were busy.

Chief: Fine. Where are they?

Erica: They should - (her pager goes off)

**** Erica walks into the OR

[monitors beeping erratically]

Erica: What's going on?

Mark: Your patient's coding, Dr. Hahn.

Nurse: Her BP's dropping.

Erica: She's heading into v-fib. Get me a crash cart.

**** Erica and Cristina are talking to SPD in the hall

[Erica sees Callie with her parents. They glance at each other, and Erica leaves; Cristina hands a folded piece of notebook paper to one of the officers]

**** Erica is sitting on a bench outside, obviously upset

[Callie walks over and sits down beside her]

Callie: I'm sorry I didn't tell my parents about us.

Erica: I'm not supposed to be like this.

Callie: Like what?

Erica: My patient died today.

Callie: It's not your fault, Erica. I'm sure you did everything you could.

Erica: No. No, I didn't. I was distracted. She had a blood clot forming in the bottom of her right ventricle, from all the work it was doing to keep her heart working. And I missed it. I missed it, because all I could think about was you. (hesitates) I'm not supposed to let my emotions get in the way of doing my job. (pauses, struggling) I can't - I can't do this anymore.

Callie: Erica, what are you saying?

Erica: I can't see you anymore. (she leaves)

[Erica goes into an empty on-call room. She locks the door behind her, sits on the floor, and leans against it]
Brooke: [on how she prepared for Erica falling for Callie] It's not rocket science! She's hot!

Brooke: That was a nice segue...did you see that one coming? - I've heard about them. My niece does the google alert thing - ... Yeah - the Callica youtube videos and stuff like that.... Yes, the kiss over and over and over and over - yes, to that song I kissed a girl and I liked it...You know all that. Yeah, mhmm.

My Mechanical Heart ~

***** Callie is getting ready for work

Cristina: I'm just saying.

Callie: What do you care? You don't even like Erica.

Cristina: I - I don't. I don't care.

Callie: You do. And you like her.

Cristina: I - I can tolerate her. I guess I got used to her being here all the time - but that does not mean that I like her. You're the one that's in love with her.

Callie: I thought we already went through this.

Cristina: Well, actually you never came right out and said it.

Callie: Is there a point to this conversation?

Cristina: Well, if you're so in love with her, (under her breath) even though I never heard you say it, (normal voice) why is she's never here - and you're always here?

Callie: I have to go. (she leaves)

***** Callie walks into the hospital

[she walks down the hall, and sees Erica at the nurses' station, and immediately gets on the elevator, and Mark steps on after her]

Mark: Morning, Torres.

Callie: Mark.

Mark: You seem a little -

Callie: Yeah, I didn't get much sleep last night. (she gets off the elevator)

***** Cristina walks over to Erica, who is now at the surgical board

[Erica erases a surgery from the board]

Cristina: Dr. Hahn - (noticing Erica erasing the surgery) You're no longer performing the heart valve replacement?

Erica: The patient refused surgery.

Cristina: You've never had any trouble getting a patient to have surgery before - well, except for that one time, but -

Erica: Well, Yang, now I am having trouble getting the patient to have the surgery. Not that that's really any of your business. (she walks away)

Cristina: I -

***** Cristina is in the resident room, charting

[Meredith walks in]

Meredith: Hey.

Cristina: (not looking up) Hey.

Meredith: Why are you charting?

Cristina: My interns are doing rounds, and McSteely's patient refused surgery.

Meredith: Why?

Cristina: No clue. You know, she didn't even seem to care. It's like she's given up trying to be McSteely anymore.

Meredith: You've been really weird whenever you talk about her lately.

Cristina: (sighing) She's - she's McSteely. She's supposed to be hardcore, mean, non-emotional-except-for-bit*****y-ness McSteely. Except she's not. Outside of work, when she's at my apartment with Callie -

Meredith: I thought you told Callie she couldn't come over anymore.

Cristina: Yeah, that was before I found out about about their love affair. I thought it would be funny. [Meredith looks at her quizzically] Okay, so it wasn't funny - and outside of work, she's - sort of normal. Normal for anyone at this hospital, anyway. More normal than you, or George, or Alex, at any rate.

Meredith: Me? What about Izzie?

Cristina: Oh, Izzie's so beyond not normal I don't even have a word for it.

Meredith: Seriously? Like you're normal?

Cristina: More normal than you.

Meredith: So McSteely's normal?

Cristina: Yeah, whatever that means. And now she's not even McSteely at work. Not even, like, a little bit. Before, she was sort of bouncing back and forth between being nice and being McSteely, and now she's neither. It's just confusing, and I can't even work now, because her patient's refusing surgery, and she's not even trying to convince them to have it, or making me try to convince them to have it.

Meredith: You like McSteely.

Cristina: Oh, I do not like McSteely. That's why she's McSteely - because no one likes her.

Meredith: Callie likes her.

Cristina: Yeah, well, McShifty's got her own problems with normal. (getting up) Whatever. I don't care. I'm gonna go check on my interns. If I'm lucky, they haven't killed anyone yet.

***** Callie walks over to Alex

Callie: Karev -

Alex: What?

Callie: Lucky you, you're my resident again. There's a trauma on its way, page me when it gets here.

[he leaves, and Callie turns around to see Erica]

Callie: Uh, I - have a - (she walks in the opposite direction)

[Erica sighs, and enters an empty on-call room. She locks the door, and sits on the bed, staring at the bottom of the upper bunk]

[Callie continues down the hall, and leans against the door frame of an empty patient room, closing her eyes]

Mark: (walking up behind her) You all right, Callie?

Callie: Fine. (she walks away)

***** Cristina is talking to a patient in their room

Cristina: Why are you refusing your heart valve replacement surgery?

Patient: You get right to the point, don't you?

Cristina: Uh, yes sir.

Patient: It's ok, I like it. Can't stand it when someone beats around the bush. (patient sits up) So, you wanna know why I won't won't have the surgery.

Cristina: Yes.

Patient: I'm old. There's no point. I'm old, and I'm gonna die sooner or later. I figure it might as well be sooner rather than later. Before the whole planet goes completely to hell. Not that there's much of it left, anyway.

***** Cristina is talking to Meredith

Cristina: So I found out why McSteely's patient refused surgery. He just doesn't want it. The guy's more negative than you.

[Alex joins them]

Alex: Someone's more negative than Meredith? I find that hard to believe.

Cristina: Oh, looking who's talking, the King of Screwing Up and Negativity himself.

Alex: (sarcastically) Ouch, that hurt.

Cristina: Maybe I should call you McNegative.

Meredith: Why do you want to McName everyone lately?

Cristina: (shrugging her shoulders) It's better than hanging around the losers at this hospital all day. And by the way, Alex, aren't you supposed to be waiting on a trauma?

Alex: How do you know?

Cristina: I'm the NeoNazi. I know everything. Just like Bailey. Better than Bailey.

Alex: We've been going through this for over a year now. You're not the Nazi. And there's no way you're better than Bailey.

Cristina: Whatever. Why don't you get to your trauma.

Meredith: Who's your -

Alex: Callie. (they both look at him) That's right, I got the hot lesbian doc.

Cristina: You don't even like ortho. No one likes ortho.

Alex: What's your point?

Cristina: What, you think that she and McSteely are gonna have a threesome wtih you?

Alex: Wouldn't be the first time.

Cristina: Yeah, well, it's not gonna happen.

Alex: Why not?

Meredith: McSteely and McShifty are on the rocks.

Alex: Seriously?

Meredith: It seems like they're not any better at relationships than the rest of us.

Alex: Yeah, right. They've gotta be better than you two. (they look at him) Well, except for the whole Bambi thing.

Cristina: Whatever.

[Alex's pager goes off]

Alex: Damn it. (he runs off, and Cristina laughs)
***** Cristina is talking to the heart patient again

Cristina: So, you don't want surgery because you want to die?

Patient: No. I'm just old, and I am going to die, there's no point pretending otherwise. And I don't want to live long enough to see the end of the world.

Cristina: The end of the world?

Patient: The end. The apocalypse. We've been heading towards it for some time now, and I would rather die before it gets here.

Cristina: But, you - you could die in surgery. And then you wouldn't have to worry about seeing the end of the world before you die. (pauses) And if you don't die - well, then, you could get to complain to a lot more people before you do die. And warn them - about, about the, uh, apocalypse.

Patient: What's your name again, doctor?

Cristina: Yang.

Patient: Yang? Is that Russian?

Cristina: Korean.

Patient: (after a minute) Well, Dr. Yang, I think you may have just made more work for yourself.

***** Erica is still in the on-call room

[her pager goes off and she ignores it]

***** Cristina is at the 1st floor nurses' station

Cristina: Have you seen Dr. Hahn anywhere?

Nurse: Um, I think I saw her go into an on-call room. But that was awhile ago. She might not be there anymore.

Cristina: Okay, well, do you remember which one it was?

Nurse: I'm not McSteely's keeper, sorry.

[Cristina sighs, annoyed, gets on the elevator, and starts looking through the third-floor on-call rooms]

Cristina: God, I cannot believe I am going through all this for McSteely. (she tries to open the door, but it's locked) Dr. Hahn? (she knocks) Dr. Hahn? I can keep knocking all day.

[the door flies open to reveal Erica]

Erica: What do you want, Yang?

Cristina: You gonna let me in?

[Erica sighs, but steps aside]

Erica: (sitting down on the edge of the bed) So, you gonna answer me or what?

Cristina: I - uh, got the patient to have surgery.

Erica: (sarcastically) Congratulations.

Cristina: Dr. Hahn, I - I know that you're not okay. I know about you and Callie?

Erica: She told you?

Cristina: She didn't have to. Look, Dr. Hahn - Erica. I know that you don't like me, and I know we don't always agree, and I will probably deny it even under torture, but - I - I'm sorry. (Erica looks at her, surprised) I - I should go book the OR. (she walks to the door and turns around) Are - are you gonna stay in here all day?

Erica: Why?

Cristina: Because - because you shouldn't.

Erica: Excuse me?

Cristina: I know I have no place to say it, because of Burke, and because it's just not really my place, but you can't stay in here all day. You're a doctor, and you have responsibilities. Don't do what I did. Don't stop doing what you need to do just because things are falling apart.

Erica: If there is one thing I do not need right now, it is someone telling me what I should and should not be doing. Especially not you.

Cristina: Well, I disagree.

Erica: What?

Cristina: I disagree. You do, or you are gonna spend the next week in here, your surgeries being passed off to lesser doctors wh -

[Erica kisses her]

Cristina: Uh - I - I'm gonna go - book the OR. (she leaves)

***** Cristina is sitting in the resident room, staring at the wall

[Meredith walks in]

Meredith: Hey. (Cristina says nothing) Cristina? Are you okay?

Cristina: Yeah, I'm fine.

Meredith: Are you sure you're okay? You don't look okay.

Cristina: (Cristina looks at her suddenly) McSteely kissed me.

Meredith: Seriously?

Cristina: I think I'm gonna be sick.
***** Callie is in the break room, alone, staring at the wall

[Mark walks in]

Mark: Torres, you sure you're okay?

Callie: Yes.

Mark: You're awfully moody today. (sitting down next to her) Trouble in Sapphic Paradise?

Callie: Is that supposed to be a joke? Because its a bad one.

Mark: So, what's going on with you and Erica?

Callie: Nothing.

Mark: So nothing's wrong?

Callie: No, I mean nothing.

Mark: You guys have a fight?

Callie: You could say that. (Mark looks at her) We broke up.

Mark: You know, it's not really a good sign when there are problems this early.

[Callie lets out an annoyed sigh]

Callie: I have to go. I have a trauma. (she leaves)

***** Erica leaves the on-call room doefully, and goes to the nurses's station

[Meredith walks over]

Meredith: Dr. Hahn.

Erica: (not looking up from her files) Dr. Grey.

Meredith: Dr. Hahn, are you okay?

Erica: (still not looking up) Fine.

Meredith: You sure? You don't have anything you want to talk about? To anyone?

Erica: (under her breath, annoyed) Yang.

Meredith: Cristina told me - what - what -

Erica: Like I care. I don't even like Yang.

Meredith: So then why -

Erica: Grey, we are not friends, so don't try and talk to me as though we are. I don't have friends at this place.

Meredith: I thought you and Callie -

Erica: My personal life is not anyone's business but my own. And if I needed a therapist, I'd talk to Wyatt.

[she gathers up her files and heads down the hall]

***** Alex runs out the ER doors just as the ambulance pulls up

[an EMT opens the doors]

Alex: What is it?

EMT: (pulling stetcher off the ambulance) Possible acetabular fracture. Looks like maybe a fractured rib cage, most likely a broken leg - he can't move it at all. And a crushed hand.

Alex: What was it?

EMT: Hit and run. Car didn't even stop.

Alex: Somebody tried to run this guy over?

EMT: No, actually. Some girl walking on the sidewalk. This is the good samaritan that pushed her out of the way.

Alex: Right. Is she gonna be in next?

EMT: No, we checked her out on scene. She doesn't have any injuries as far as we could tell. We tried to bring her in, but she refused to.

[Alex pushes the patient into the ER]

Alex: (to nurse) Can you page Torres? (she leaves)

***** Erica walks into the break room and sits down, looking through her files

[Dr. Wyatt comes in]

Dr. Wyatt: Did you want to talk to me?

Erica: What is it with no one in this hospital minding their own da***** business?

Dr. Wyatt: I'm a therapist. It's my job. You want to talk about here or in my office? (Erica sighs)

***** Callie is in a hall

[Callie's pager beeps; Bailey walks by]

Dr. Bailey: You better get moving, Torres.

Callie: (looking through medical drawer) I think I have the flu.

Dr. Bailey: Why?

Callie: I'm all flushed, and hot, and I keep throwing up. I'm exhausted, and I've only been here a couple hours. My legs are killing me.

Dr. Bailey: (sighing) I am not a nurse. (puts thermometer in her ear)

Callie: I can't be sick. I have a trauma patient who just got here, and I'm supposed to be checking on Karev -

***** Erica is in Dr. Wyatt's office

Erica: I don't know.

Dr. Wyatt: Why?

Erica: Are you just gonna keep asking the same thing over and over again?

Dr. Wyatt: Erica, why did you kiss Cristina? (Erica doesn't answer her) We both know you know. Now, why did you kiss Cristina? I can't help you if you don't talk to me.

Erica: I don't need help.

Dr. Wyatt: Then why are you in my office? Why did Meredith Grey, of all people, suggest that I talk to you? Why did you kiss Cristina?

Erica: Because she made me think of Callie!

***** Bailey is taking Callie's temperature in a hall

[thermometer beeps}

Dr. Bailey: (reading it) 98.6.

Callie: What? I mean, I don't want to be sick, but perfectly normal? I expected it to be at least a little off - like 98.9 or something like that.

Dr. Bailey: Well, it's not, and I don't know what to tell you.

Callie: But you're Bailey. You always know what to say.

Dr. Bailey: Yes, I am. (she raises her eyebrows at Callie) Well, maybe -

Callie: Maybe what? (Bailey gives her a look) Oh no. No. No, i-it's not possible. I-i-i-it's just not.

Dr. Bailey: If you say so.

Callie: It's not. I-I have to go. (she walks away)

Dr. Bailey: (to herself) They never learn.

***** Erica is still in Dr. Wyatt's office

Dr. Wyatt: How?

Erica: How what?

Dr. Wyatt: How did she make you think of Callie?

Erica: How the hell should I know? (sighing) Because I can't stop thinking about her.

Dr. Wyatt: Why?

Erica: Because we aren't seeing other anymore.

Dr. Wyatt: What that your idea or hers?

Erica: Mine.

Dr. Wyatt: Why?

Erica: I couldn't focus. We had a fight, and I couldn't focus. I killed my patient.

Dr. Wyatt: Patients die.

Erica: My patient died because I wasn't paying attention.

Dr. Wyatt: Why weren't you paying attention to your patient? (Erica doesn't answer her) Erica, why weren't you paying attention?

Erica: Because I let her in. I let her in, and she - (she stops)

Dr. Wyatt: Relationships take time. They take effort. You can't just give up because things go badly.

Erica: I can't do my job.

Dr. Wyatt: You can. And you can have a personal life. What you can't do is let your personal life affect your job.

Erica: How did I get here?

Dr. Wyatt: Get where?

Erica: How did I get to be the kind of person who lets her personal life affect her job?

Dr. Wyatt: You're the kind of person who is human.

[Erica's pager goes off]

Erica: [getting up] It's my patient. I have to go.

Dr. Wyatt: Erica -

Erica: I'll come back.

Dr. Wyatt: Erica -

Erica: I will. [she leaves]

Scene: Patient's room

[Erica rushes in; the monitors are flatlining and Cristina is shocking the patient]

Erica: What happened?

Nurse: Went in to v-fib - clear!

[monitor beeps]

Nurse: He's back.

Erica: What, did you run all the way to beat me here, Yang?

Cristina: As a matter of fact, yes.

Erica: He's stable for now. Is the OR booked?

Cristina: Yes, Dr. Hahn.

Erica: Good. Keep an eye on him until surgery. (she leaves)

Scene: Erica is eating lunch alone at her and Callie's normal table

[Mark sits across from her]

Erica: What are you doing here?

Mark: Eating.

Erica: Maybe I didn't phrase the question right. Why are you here? There isn't anyone else in this whole place who you could be annoying?

Mark: You like me.

Erica: I tolerate you.

Mark: Like, tolerate -

Erica: Whether you realize it or not, there is a difference between the two.

Mark: So why are you eating alone?

Erica: (scoffs) That is none of your business.

Mark: I only asked to be polite.

Erica: (raises her brows) You? One of the few things we have in common is that we are not nice people. (Mark opens his mouth to speak) But that still doesn't mean I like you.

Mark: You do. You like me so much you can't stand it. That's why you're not with Callie.

Erica: What?

Mark: You heard me.

Erica: Callie tell you?

Mark: (nods) Not that she needed to. It's kind of obvious. (after a minute)Come on, Hahn. You and me, right now. Third-floor on-call room.

Erica: (leans toward him, then whispers seductively) Mark?

Mark: (leans in toward her) Yeah?

Erica: Never gonna happen.

Mark: Fine, fine. But you don't know what you're missing.

Erica: I'm sure I do.

Mark: Callie said you don't trust her.

Erica: We are not -

Mark: But I don't think that's it.

Erica: Really? And you think I care about what you -

Mark: I think you're scared.

Erica: Excuse me?

Mark: You're scared. (shrugs) It's okay.

Erica: I am not afraid.

Mark: So then the reason you never told Callie -

Erica: I didn't want to.

Mark: Huh.

Erica: (sighing) What?

Mark: Just trying to get my head around the idea of a woman who's alone, and obviously doesn't want to be, but doesn't want to tell someone she has feelings for that she does.

Erica: I have a patient to check on.

[she leaves, then when she enters the stairwell, instead of going up, she leans against the wall and sighs]

Scene: Dr. Wyatt's office

Erica: (under her breath) Stupid.

Dr. Wyatt: What's stupid?

Erica: Sloan. (Dr. Wyatt raises her brows quizzically) He said I'm scared. I'm not. I'm not afraid of anything.

Dr. Wyatt: Not even of being bad at your job? (Erica looks up) That is why you and Callie broke up, isn't it?

Erica: Yes. (sighs)

Dr. Wyatt: And you said you were worried when the Chief told you you needed to be a better teacher.

Erica: (scoffs) Yeah, but it's not exactly easy.

Dr. Wyatt: I'd think you'd appreciate the challenge.

Erica: I do, but Yang just - (she groans)

Dr. Wyatt: Why does she bother you so much?

Erica: She just does.

Dr. Wyatt: But why?

Erica: Because she dated Burke. And Colin Marlow. And I don't think it's fair that she most likely got special treatment because of it.

Dr. Wyatt: You really think Burke gave her special treatment? (Erica sighs) Is that the only reason you don't like her?

Erica: No. There a lot of other reasons.

Dr. Wyatt: Like what?

Erica: Like the fact that she's gonna end up killing someone.

My Mechanical Heart (Conclusion) ~

Scene: Nurses' Station

[girl walks over]

Nurse: Can I help you?

Girl: Yeah, um, I'm looking for...

Nurse: Are you family?

[girl shakes her head]

Nurse: Well, if they're in ICU, then I'm afraid you won't be able to.

Girl: But, I have to. Please.

Nurse: First of all, let's find out where they are. What's the patient's name?

Girl: I, um, - I - I don't know.

[Callie, who is walking by, stops]

Nurse: You don't know his name? I'm sor-

Callie: You're her, aren't you? (the girl looks at her quizzically) I mean - (to nurse) It's okay. I got it.

Nurse: But -

Callie: I'll take the blame.

Nurse: (raising brows) Okay.

Callie: Come with me.

[She leads her into a patient room, where the 'good samaritin' is recovering]

Girl: Hi. I - I didn't get a chance to thank you earlier. For - for saving my life.

GS: You're welcome.

Girl: Terri.

GS: Sorry?

Girl: That's my name. (extending her hand) I'd like to repay you -

GS: It's no big deal, really. (taking her hand) Uh, Bobby.

Terri: Bobby. It's nice to meet you.

Bobby: Nice to see you too. I wish I looked better, though. (they laugh)

Scene: Dr. Wyatt's Office

Dr. Wyatt: What makes you say that?

Erica: Because it's true. It happens to good surgeons and good doctors all the time.

Dr. Wyatt: You didn't kill your patient. You made a mistake.

Erica: A mistake that cost her her life.... It was my job to help her.... I was his surgeon!

Dr. Wyatt: Wasn't the patient female?

Erica: I - what?

Dr. Wyatt: The patient. Wasn't it a female?

Erica: So?

Dr. Wyatt: So you said his surgeon.

Erica: Do you have a point?

Dr. Wyatt: Who's surgeon?

Erica: So I said the wrong thing. Sue me.

Dr. Wyatt: Who's surgeon, Erica?

[after a moment]

Erica: (sighing) Mitchel Bickson's.

Dr. Wyatt: What happened?

Erica: It was my second year as an intern. He came in with chest pains. I thought - I was stupid. I was stupid, and he was my patient and I killed him.

Dr. Wyatt: You really think you killed him? You didn't kill him, and you didn't kill Adraia Morettie either. You made mistakes. People make mistakes.

Erica: Yeah, well I'm just full of them, aren't I? (pager goes off)

Scene: Patient Room

[monitors are beeping erratically]

Erica: What is it?

Cristina: He's coding again - where's that crash cart?!?

[nurse brings it in, Cristina begins shocking the patient]

Nurse: Clear!

[moniter continues flatlining]

Cristina: Again.

Nurse: Clear!

[monitor beeps]

Cristina: He's back again.

Erica: Not for long. Two codes in two hours? Something went wrong. Get him to radiology and get me a new ekg.

Cristina: Yes, Dr. Hahn.

Scene: Hallway

Bailey: How you feelin, Torres?

Callie: Better. I think I was just tired.

Bailey: Uh-huh.

Callie: What?

Bailey: Nothing.

Callie: Look, before you go all wise-and-knowing-Bailey on me, I already checked.

Bailey: And?

Callie: And nothing.

Bailey: You okay with that?

Callie: (nodding her head vigorously) Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, of course. I mean, things are just too crazy. I can't be, anyway. I-I can't have a baby right - (she cuts herself off, spotting Erica close-by) I - um, I-I need to go check on my patient. (she walks off)

Scene: Patient Room

Callie: How's your rib cage feel?

Bobby: Like I got it hit by a car.

Callie: (laughs) Well, you are on your pain meds, so -

Bobby: She didn't recognize me.

Callie: I - what?

Bobby: Terri.

Callie: The - the girl you - you mean you knew her?

Bobby: (nodding) We went to school together when we were kids. You think she'd remember. I used to chase her around the playground.

Callie: Pulling her pigtails?

Bobby: Only because she kissed me and then pulled down my shorts in front of the monkey bars.

Callie: You had a crush on her?

Bobby: Since the third grade. And now she doesn't even know who I am.

Callie: She thinks you're the guy who saved her life.

Bobby: Yeah, well, that's not exactly what happened.

Callie: You mean you didn't try to save her life?

Bobby: No, I did, that just wasn't how it - I saw her when I was walking. She walked right by me. I couldn't believe it. I, uh, ran after her, tried to get her attention, maybe get up the courage to tell her who I was. Just to - but then I saw the car, and it wasn't slowing down. It was going right at her, and she, uh - she must've had headphones on or something, because she didn't seem to notice me yelling at her, and then I just - I ran at her and pushed her out of the way.

Callie: Well, now you've got a second chance. She's out in the waiting room still. Tell her, don't tell her... Get to know her again, then tell her. Whatever. But you've got another chance.

Scene: Waiting Room

Callie: Terri? Bobby's asking if you'd maybe like to go talk to him.

Scene: Dr. Wyatt's Office

Erica: My patient coded, and I've only got -

Dr. Wyatt: Sit. Are you afraid?

Erica: Of what?

Dr. Wyatt: Being with Callie.

Erica: That's ridiculous.

Dr. Wyatt: So is people who are in love not being together. But it happens.

Erica: I love her, it's just -

Dr. Wyatt: That you're scared. People get scared, Erica. You don't always have to act so tough.

Erica: But I - I talk to Callie - I'm most myself when I'm around her!

Dr. Wyatt: Maybe you're more yourself, but you're still guarded. You're still being tough Erica Hahn.

Erica: What's wrong with that?

Dr. Wyatt: There's a difference between being strong and pushing away the people that you love.

Erica; I - I am not pushing -

Dr Wyatt: You're not? You didn't break up with Callie over the fact that she was also still scared? You didn't push her away to where the two of you barely even talk about work anymore?

Erica: I -

Dr. Wyatt: You didn't -

Erica: Okay, I get it! (sighs) So what the hell do I do now?

Ok, so I'm trying something different. Normally, I pretty much like the fact that my fics are different from others because they're in script format. Which I'm used to doing, so that's why I usually do..... But lately, I've started feeling like I'm missing out on writing out the thoughts of the characters, and it didn't bother me at first, but it's been four months since I started doing this, and lately every time I turn around, I can't just do the stupid thing in script format anymore because all the other stuff keeps popping in there. So let me know which way you like better. Maybe I'll go back to script, maybe keep going this way... maybe go back and forth between the two.. I'm not really sure, since I said I was going to do just one like this originally, and then before I even finish it I go and change my mind.... sigh

Kiss The Girl~~

"Pick three things about yourself. Three good things that make up part of who you are."

Erica looked up at Dr. Wyatt incredulously. Her voice dripping with disdain, she replied, "Are you serious?"

"We've tried everything else, Erica. A colleague of mine uses this on depressed teens."

Oh great. So now I'm being compared to teens? "I am not depr-" Dr. Wyatt gives her a furtive look, and she shuts up. The kind of looks Callie used to give her when she was trying to argue something they both knew she was lying about. "Fine." She sighed, thinking. "I don't know."

"It can be anything, Erica."

Erica sighed once more. This is ridiulous. "I'm strong and independent?" She decided to add successful, since most of her life, until recently, had centered around her career.

"Okay. You have a fear of not being able to do things that other normal people do. You are skilled, and from what I've heard, almost flawless in surgery. It seems that while you can do what others can't, what you can't do is what most people can. So, repeat after me. I can do this. I am Erica Hahn, strong, independent, successful cardiac surgeon. I can do this."

Erica looked at her. "Seriously? This is supposed to help me?" Dr. Wyatt shot her another look, and she sighed. It seemed she did that a lot lately. "I can do this. I am Erica Hahn, strong, independent, successful cardiac surgeon. I can do this."

"Whenever you feel afraid of something, even if doesn't seem that big a deal, I want you to use that tool."

Erica raised her brows. "Yeah, okay," she said sarcastically. Like she would ever do something so ludicrous.

"Erica."

"Fine," she agreed against her will. She sat there in silence for a moment, and then she had to say it. Dr. Wyatt had to ask.

"Are you sorry you left Callie?"

"Of course I am." She was sorry. And she knew she needed to admit everything right now, because she most likely wouldn't do it later. "Look, I get the whole afraid thing, and now I have this 'tool', and I'm gonna use it, but how does that help me fix things?"

"I can't do everything for you, Erica."

Erica sighed exasperatedly. "I really wish you would stop talking to me like a shrink."

"I am a shrink. Why don't you try the truth?"

Erica sighed again. The truth? The truth was she was an idiot. The truth was that Callie and Dr. Wyatt were right. Inside an OR, she knew what she was doing. She was brilliant. And while many had called her arrogant, they had always later admitted that it did have a large amount of truth to it. "I -"

Dr. Wyatt held up a hand to her, her pen crossed between her fingers. "Don't tell me. Tell Callie."

"It's been almost two weeks. She's not gonna speak to me." Dr. Wyatt gave her a plaintive look, and Erica sighed. Aggravated, she repeated, "I can do this. I am Erica Hahn, strong, independent, successful cardiac surgeon. I can do this." I can do this. Five minutes later, she was leaving her session. She exhaled as she walked, determined suddenly to do this, no matter how stupid she might look. And Erica Hahn was not usually one to care if she looked like an idiot. She may not care all that much what people thought of her, but she did have standards. Erica headed down the hall, and saw Callie at the nurses' station looking through some papers.
"Callie?" she asked tentatively as she reached her.

Callie closed her folder without taking her eyes from it. Her heart skipped a beat, and then she composed herself, looking up at the sultry blonde. "Yes?"

"Can we talk?"

Callie sighed, shaking her head slightly in disbelief. She folded her arms across her chest. "What about, Erica?"

"Alone?" Erica asked her.

"Fine," came Callie's somewhat annoyed response. She followed Erica into an empty on-call room, shut the door behind them, and adjusted her shirt.

Erica could only look at her. She had known exactly what she'd been going to say, what she'd been going to do, only now, she couldn't. Her throat felt hot, and she couldn't swallow. "I -" was about all she could manage. She looked into Callie's beautiful brown eyes, and melted. She wanted nothing more than to just - "What, Erica? What?" Callie interrupted her thoughts. She didn't sound like herself. Not really angry, or upset at all even. It was as if she didn't even care. She sighed. I can do this. I am Erica Hahn, strong, independent, successful cardiac surgeon. I can do this. Callie raised her brows at Erica, and before she could even open her own mouth, was shaking her head. "I have patients that need checking on." Erica spun around, hardly able to believe that she had somehow managed to run off the woman she loved again. And this time she hadn't even done anything.

Callie refused to break. She had been the one who had lost all senses last week, the one who, she was certain, Mark and Cristina thought was a complete nutter. She was the one who'd almost had to - No, she thought to herself, I didn't. I thought I would, but it's okay, because I'm not pregnant. And I'm also alone. She sighed, and headed towards the patient rooms. How could Erica do this to her? Yeah, okay, so she hadn't told her parents. She was scared. She had a right to be, didn't she? And Erica had been completely unsympathetic. She had gotten scared, too, and had lashed out at her! She couldn't handle this drama, she really couldn't. But every time she thought about Erica even in the slightest, she couldn't help but also thinking of her lips. Of her smile. The way her hair fell in soft, golden curls when she didn't straighten it. The way it still bounced even when she did. Callie stopped, and leaned against a wall, trying to look nonchalant. She instinctively put her fingers to her lips, remembering every kiss they had shared, every touch, every laugh. Even before they had realized they had feelings for each other, they had been friends, and Callie had gotten so used to having Erica's presence around that every moment alone these last couple weeks had been agonizing. Every time, she thought of Erica, and what she was doing. She tried to surround herself with people, even though she wasn't that sociable. Mark and Cristina were okay. Meredith when she wasn't -

"Dr. Torres?" Someone had called out her name. She shook all the thoughts of Erica from her mind, and drew her attention to the young woman standing before her.

"Lexie. What is it?"

"I just wondered if you were okay. You seemed kind of out of it."

"I'm fine." She pulled herself away from the wall. "It's just been a long day." She sighed, and then pulled her hair into a side ponytail. "Thanks for asking," she flashed her a feeble smile, and trudged once again towards the patients' rooms. Normally she didn't care what people thought of her, but she didn't really want a bunch of people butting into her life when she felt like crap. Damnit.

Erica sighed for about the thirty thousandth time that day. She sat on the edge of one of the cots in the on-call room, wondering how the hell she kept screwing everything up. She shook her head, and put her head in her hands. Okay, this is stupid. I am not going to say this. And then she said it. Out loud. Erica Hahn recited, probably the stupidest tool she had ever heard of, out loud. And amazingly enough, after she repeated it four or five times, she actually started to believe it. "Mind over matter," she muttered under her breath. She stood up, exhaled slowly, and sought after the sable-haired beauty of whom her every thought now transfixed. She had to do this.

Erica caught up to Callie surprisingly fast. She was only in the patient hall when she reached her. She grabbed her arm tenderly, and dragged her gingerly into the empty stairwell. "Erica, what the hell - " I can do this. She pushed Callie gently but firmly against the wall and looked into her eyes again. "I'm sorry. I know, it's not much, and I know that I was scared and reckless and stupid - "

Callie yanked her arm free finally. "Yeah, you were!"

"Callie, I'm so sorry," she remarked sincerely. She could drown in those eyes all over again. God, she wasn't thinking straight. Focus, Erica!

Callie didn't know what to say. She'd been waiting to hear those words. And last week she would've said right away that she was sorry too, that she forgave her, that she loved her. And that was all still true, but Erica had made her wait, and the more she had, the more she had hurt.

"I - " was all the more she could manage before Erica kissed her. She felt her knees go weak, and she reacted viscerally, her hands reached up and stroked the golden hair as Erica grabbed her shoulders. She could feel Erica gently thrust her tongue into her mouth, and she parted her lips, wanting her.

"Stop." Callie pushed her away from her. "I'm sorry, I want to, but, I just can't forgive you yet. And you - you can't kiss me like that," she whispered softly. "It's cheating. I - I have to go." She marched away, leaving Erica stunned, and let the door slam shut loudly behind her, ignoring when almost a dozen people looked in her direction.

Kiss the Girl (conclusion)

"Stop running scared, Erica."

Erica looked up. "I am not running scared! I did what I was supposed to do! I apologized," she finished somewhat lamely.

"Did you tell her how you feel?"

Erica sighed frustratedly. "Yes!" Wasn't that what she'd just said? "I told her I'd been stupid. I admitted I was wrong - and scared," she added weakly.

Dr. Wyatt looked her with an unreadable expression. "That's a big step for you."

"I know."

"Did you tell her anything else?"

"I - uh - " For once, Erica Hahn was rendered completely speechless. And she felt like a fool.

Callie walked past the maternity ward, for no particular reason, and found herself stopping. She couldn't help herself. The place she'd been in over a year ago hung in her mind. Of course, she couldn't think about that without remembering the hurt she went through with George. But she realized, standing there, that some of the things she had wanted back then, she still wanted. It had seemed strange to her, then, to want them, because for years she had wanted only surgery and love. But now, realizing she still wanted some of those things - didn't seem so strange to her. In fact, she had had to fight hard to control her emotions the day that George's mother had come to the hospital. She had had to fight to stay strong, and not breakdown, which was unlike her. Which is why she'd gone out with Erica, to take her mind off of that. She sighed. Erica.

The maternity ward made Callie think of Addison. The Chief was searching for the 'right person' to fill her position. He'd tried several times, but no one seemed to fit. They'd been close, once, but the doctor had inexplicably left after only a couple of weeks, which Callie found unusually strange. Callie sighed again. She wished she could see or talk to Addison. She hadn't even told her that she and Erica - Erica again. She needed to think about something else. She'd just seen her best friend a couple months ago, but so much had happened. So much had happened, and she had no one to talk to. No one besides Mark. And it wasn't that she couldn't speak to him, so much as, even if he really wanted to, she didn't really think he could help that much. So she had no one. She had no one, and she needed someone. She needed to see Addison, but if she was really honest with herself, she NEEDED Erica. But she just - couldn't. Every time she looked at the woman, she felt like crying - or screaming. And she was not the type to lose control of her emotions in public. And yet, for the last two weeks, ever since she and Erica had split up, it was pretty much all she felt like doing. She had tried to call Addi a few times, but she'd been busy. At least Callie didn't have to worry about a time difference. That probably would've made it harder. She decided that she would call Addison as soon as she got off work. She choked back more tears as she watched the nurses' change the babies' sheets, and immediately inhaled, walked down the hall to supply closet, and locked herself inside before succumbing.

Callie's phone vibrated. She had a text mesage from Mark.

Where are you?

Callie sighed. Hiding in the supply closet probably wasn't the best answer.

Why?

She wiped her face, and peeked out the door. Mark was across the hall, at the nurses' station. Before she could think of an excuse, her phone went off again.

Wanna grab lunch?

Callie couldn't think of a good enough excuse not to, so she wiped her face once more, and crept out of the door. She closed it quietly, and walked over to Mark. "Hey. What'd you have in mind?"

He shrugged. "Cafeteria?"

About five minutes or so later, they were seated at an ampty table, Callie picking at her food.

"Torres, do you wanna talk?"

"Not really." She looked at him, and realized that he was her only chance to say all of the things that were on her mind. "Erica kissed me."

Mark raised his eyebrows. "You two make up then?"

Callie scoffed. "I'm not a little kid, Mark. She can't just - kiss me and think it's gonna make everything all better."

He looked slightly taken aback.

"She didn't apologize?" he asked after a moment.

"She said she was sorry, but - it - it just isn't enough for her to say she's sorry."

"You don't think she meant it?"

Callie decided honesty was the best way to go. "There's no doubt in my mind that she did." It would be easier if there. "But it doesn't matter."

Mark hadn't seen this side of Callie before. "Being a little harsh, don't you think?"

"Me? She's the one who broke my heart for no reason!"

Mark cleared his throat. Women were exhausting. "Weren't you scared? Before you two - got together? I had to - "

Callie scoffed plaintively. "We've been together for weeks now! And then she pulled this crap."

"Yeah, but Hahn is - well, Hahn. Maybe she just tried to be strong and couldn't anymore. She seems more like glass that's about to crack rather than a brick wall to me, personally. From everything you've told me."

"There are - other things too."

"Like what?"

She wasn't sure she should tell him. "Like - just things. I-I'm not even sure if she wants the same things as I do."

"What are you talking about?"

"T-to do what I did - to - to put yourself out there like I did, you have to know. You have to know that you have seriously strong feelings for a person or else - well, there's really no point. And I did. I DO. But, I want things. I want things that I don't know if I'll ever get, because ever since I first realized I wanted them, it just seems like I haven't been able to get them. Not exactly, anyway. And, I am a surgeon, and, before I met George, there were only two things that I knew I wanted. But then I got them, and I wanted more. I want more, and I can't just take that back."

"Can you take back your feelings for Erica?"

She raised her brows at him, speechless. Maybe he had changed. A little. Her pager went off, and she left and hurried to the nurses' station. "I was pa - Mom! Dad! Wh-what are you guys doing here? A-again?"

Erica was still in Dr. Wyatt's office. It seemed like she spent more time there than she had with Callie in the past, lately.

"For someone who's supposably cares about Callie, you don't seem to very much."

"I do care about her!"

Dr. Wyatt raised her eyebrows, and she knew she'd struck a nerve.

Erica couldn't help it. She started crying before she could stop herself. At first she thought she was imagining it. She didn't cry. She just didn't. But the taste of salty tears on her lip were enough to confirm it. Then she got mad at herself for crying. She was supposed to be - well a lot of things, and a crier wasn't one of them. She quickly tried to cover her face, but Dr. Wyatt had already seen.

She waited a minute, and then finally interrupted the awkward silence. "Erica?"

"I'm fine," she took her hands away, and looked at her. "I'm Erica Hahn. I'm always fine, right?"

"I don't think so, Erica." she stated plainly.

Erica sighed.

She left the room ten minutes later, her heart set on seeking out Callie. She finally found the woman leaving the Attendings' Lounge. "Callie. Look, I just - I just wanted to say that I get that you can't forgive me just yet. If I was you, I don't know if I'd be able to either."

That shocked Callie. If there was one thing Erica didn't do, it was openly admit her feelings without provocation. She was stubborn, and full of pride, among other things. She had thought, perhaps, that she had just gotten caught up in the moment earlier, but now Callie was certain that Erica was for real. But, all things in the last hour considered, she couldn't really handle it.

"I-I have a 9-1-1 that I'm on my way to. I-I have to go," she lied, and walked off. She wanted, more than anything, to forgive Erica right then and there. To admit that she was sorry too, that she needed her, that she wanted her. She wanted to tell what had happened. She wanted Erica to hold her, and she wanted to not feel childish for it either. She wanted a lot of things, but facing reality with her parents wasn't one of them.

Callie entered the dark apartment, and set her keys on the counter. She put her purse down, and removed her shoes. She changed quietly, and tiptoed into the bedroom. She opened the door so quietly that the woman in the bed did not stir. She climbed in next to her carefully, and whispered, "Hey."

The sultry blonde immediately opened her eyes. She propped hereself up on her elbow, and said. "Callie - what - what are you doing here?"

She had come to talk, to forgive, to be with Erica. To love, to forget. But now she just felt dumb, and she couldn't tell her. "I, uh - it's just not been a good day, you know?" she replied, her voice breaking at the end.

Erica could hear the pain in her voice, could tell that there was something seriously wrong. "What is it?"

She hadn't really planned on telling Erica. She had planned, more, on talking about them, to avoid talking or thinking about it. But if she knew anyone who would be sorry, not out of pity, but sincerity, it was Erica. Erica didn't pity anyone. Whenever she felt badly for someone, she felt it with her whole heart. It was one of the reasons, Callie had figured out soon into their friendship, that Erica stone-walled many people, because she didn't like being over-emotional. She didn't like how it made her feel. To cry. To have her heart hurt simply because someone she cared about was hurting. It was one of the things that only Callie knew about her, and one of the things she loved about her, and she now realized that, as hard as it was for her to make it through their separation, it must've been tougher on Erica.

"I - my mom needs surgery," she finally admitted. "I-it's just minor heart surgery, but - it's my mom, you know?"

Erica nodded. She knew how much Callie's family meant to her.

Callie looked into her eyes, practically pleading without words. "I want you to do it."

Erica looked slightly shocked. "Callie, I-I'm not so sure that's a good -"

"Erica, you're the best heart surgeon I know. I don't care if Burke did win the Harper Avery Award. You're better, you should have won."

"Well..."

Callie forced out a small laugh. "See? Even you know you're good. You performed surgery on Walter Tappley for Pete's sake. And if I had known you were being considered for the award, I - "

"It's not a big deal. I mean, it is that I didn't get it, but not that you didn't - I mean, you didn't know."

"I also want you to do it because I trust you. And because I love you."

"Are you sure?"

Callie nodded. She was, and she had meant it, she really did think that Erica was better than Burke. Maybe not as trusting in her skills, no matter how she might pretend to be, but still better. She grabbed Erica's hand, and kissed it. "I'm sorry. For not forgiving you. What you did was stupid, but my not forgiving you was more stupid."

"I'm sorry too."

"I know." She snuggled closer to Erica, and suddenly found herself crying. Erica leaned forward, and wiped the water from Callie's face. "I-it's just a lot to take, you know?"

"Yeah, I know," she said sincerely. Erica touched her face, and just held it in her hand for a few moments, and Callie closed her eyes at the embrace, and grabbed her hand, making sure that Erica didn't let go. She closed her eyes. She needed this, needed her. "I missed you so much," she said softly, still not opening her eyes.

"I missed you too."

Callie slipped her fingers into Erica's, and closed her own hand around hers. She opened her eyes, and looked into Erica's again. She had to ask. She had to. She couldn't.... She couldn't even bear finishing the thought, let alone it happening. "Erica, I need you to do something else for me."

"What?" she asked softly.

"I - you still loved me this entire time, didn't you? I mean - you did, right?" Callie asked tentatively.

Erica's face softened immediately. "Callie, I have never stopped loving you. And I am -"

"It's okay. I know." She smiled weakly. "Me neither. I - I can't bear the thought of - of going through this again. I just - can't. I've done it too many times. Too many heartaches of loving someone or wanting to be with someone and not being with them. You, George - other people in my past. And I just can't do it. So, I need you to promise me that if we ever break up again, it'll only be because we - we've stopped loving each other." she choked out.

Erica knew she was serious, and in all actuality, she wasn't sure if she could handle it either. "Okay," she agreed, and sighed. "I promise."

"You mean it?"

"I do."

She leaned in toward Callie, and just stayed there for a moment, before kissing her. She kissed her long, passionately, and lovingly. She hadn't ever thought she could feel so much, especially in a kiss, before Callie. But she did, and every time it was the same - so much emotion in one action. She kissed her a bit longer, and then pulled away slowly, kissing neck, and then her shoulder, and then her upper arm. She kissed her lightly on the lips again, and then grabbed her hand, and held her close to her as they drifted off to sleep.
Brooke: [on how she prepared for Erica falling for Callie] It's not rocket science! She's hot!
