I know its MerMark but please give it a chance. I am outside And I've been waiting for the sun With my wide eyes I've seen worlds that don't belong My mouth is dry with words I cannot verbalize Tell me why we live like this Meredith and Derek Shepherd had been married for 1 year, 8 months and 4 days. Derek was a successful and very talented super boat racer, Meredith did not need to work due to a large inheritance from her father, but she bought a bar near the dock off Duval Street where Derek also owned a Jet Ski rental. Meredith watched the race from the bar, with a wild crowd cheering on their favorite drivers. Meredith looked around and smiled at the patrons, she was glad they moved to Key West shortly before getting married, it had been a move for Derek’s career but one Meredith was happy about. The race that day was off of Miami Beach and as always was in international waters. Meredith pulled a beer out of the cooler and went onto the covered patio to watch. No sooner had the race started when Derek’s boat was bumped by a new driver and his race boat capsized. Meredith yelled for everyone to shut up, and turned up the volume. Everyone at the bar fell silent knowing that it was Derek’s boat; eyes were glued to the screen. A rescue boat got to the overturned boat and an EMT dove in, he came up a minute later with Derek. The cameras at the race panned away as the EMT’s pulled Derek on the rescue boat. Mark: damnit Derek don’t do this Mark and his partner worked to bring Derek back while the driver got them to shore quickly. The shore crew was ready with a truck, they worked together to get Derek to the hospital. Meanwhile in Key West Meredith turned blindly from the TV, Meredith’s cousin Alex ran into the bar and wrapped his arms around Meredith. “I already called for the helicopter, we will get to Miami as quick as we can “ Alex tells is cousin, Meredith nodded, feeling numb Alex quickly walked Meredith out nodding to the manager Lexie as they leave. He put Meredith in his car, driving them to the helipad. Back in Miami Mark and his partner Cristina worked on Derek on the way to the hospital. “He wasn’t breathing when you pulled him from the water,” Cristina asks, more telling than asking “No” Mark says as he continues compressions, “We have to wait for them to call it” Cristina tells him “I’m not giving up Cris, he’s married” Mark almost yells at Cristina “I know Mark. We travel to every race with these guys. We all know him, have you met his wife?” Cristina voice says calmly “No she doesn’t usually come out on the press boat. She owns a bar in Key West, pretty successful” Mark sighs “Yeah I met her when we were in Key West last month” Cristina replies, her hands finally stilling Mark’s They arrived at the hospital and rushed Derek inside. The on call doctor declared Derek dead on arrival. “damnit!” Mark yells turning from the stretcher, “You did everything you could Mark, we both did” Cristina tells him Mark nodded, knowing that Meredith was on her way. Meredith and Alex arrived twenty minutes after the ambulance, they ran into the emergency room and to the desk “My husband was brought in, Derek Shepherd” Meredith say to the nurse “Yes ‘mam, if you will have a seat the doctor will be right with you.” the nurse replies, standing to get the doctor, she looked at Mark and he could see she didn’t want to have to tell Meredith. Meredith turned and saw Mark and Cristina sitting near the desk filling out paper work. “I know you two, you’re… you are the race paramedics right” Meredith’s says walking towards them “Yes mam’ “Mark replies standing up “It’s Meredith” Meredith says trying to smile “I’m Cristina, this is Mark” Cristina says, looking from Mark to Meredith, Meredith nodded in response to her words “Mrs. Shepherd” Richard says, clearing his throat, watching the four Meredith quickly turned around and faced the doctor “I’m Dr. Webber. Mrs. Shepherd, I’m sorry but your husband did not make it.” Richard explains, trying to soften his words Meredith’s vision went black with his words, Mark saw her going down jumping out of his chair catching her before she hit the ground, sweeping her into his arms. “Bring her back here Mark” Richard says over his shoulder leading them back into the emergency room. Mark nodded and followed Richard to an empty exam room, laying Meredith down gently on the bed. Alex came quietly into the room with Cristina, “Sorry you are” Richard says, looking up seeing Alex “Sorry Alex Grey, I’m her cousin” Alex replies, his eyes focused on Meredith “okay, I am sorry for your loss” Richard says, backing out of the room, as the door closed Alex took Meredith’s hand and brushed the hair out of her eyes. Meredith’s eyes fluttered open, focusing on Alex’s face “Tell me it was a dream Alex, tell me I am sleeping in my bed and Derek is down at the dock renting Jet Ski’s to college kids on spring break.” Meredith says her voice growing thick with emotion “I wish I could” Alex whispers to his cousin. Meredith closed her eyes, the tears silently falling, Alex sat on the bed and pulled her into his arms, she clung to him, soaking his shirt. “We are going to go, sorry...” Mark says quietly not wanting to upset Meredith and though he had spoken in a whisper his voice made it through to Meredith. “Mark right?” Meredith asks, sitting up, Mark nods rather than using words to answer her “thank you, for trying” Meredith’s voice cracked with unshed tears “I wish I could have saved him.” Mark tells Meredith, feeling it down in his soul. Meredith nodded, still holding her grip on Alex “We are going to go, we’re sorry for your loss” Mark says, as he and Cristina made their way to the door. Meredith nodded and Alex helps her off the bed, tears still flowing freely down her cheeks. “I want to see him. “ Meredith said letting go of Alex, she looked from Alex to Mark to Cristina “I’ll try okay “Alex tells Meredith, rubbing circles on her back Meredith nodded “I’ll find Dr. Webber.” Cristina said, running out the door. Moments later, the door opened again and Cristina motioned for Mark to join her in the hallway “Dr. Webber said she can’t see him till after the autopsy tomorrow” Cristina says in a low voice, looking around the hallway “He drowned” Mark replies, the anger building in his voice “I know but he drowned in international waters, he has to have an autopsy” Cristina explains. Mark looked back into the room and his heart breaks watching Meredith trying to hold it together until she is out of the hospital. Deciding quickly he walked into the room “Come on I’ll take you to him.” Mark says holding his hand out to Meredith, she gets up following him to the trauma room where Derek’s body still was. Mark stood at the door as Meredith walked over to Derek’s body. “I love you baby” Meredith whispers, kissing Derek’s forehead and quickly backing up “thank you” Mark nods at her quiet words and he guided her out of the room “We need to go before they catch us in here” Mark says quietly as they move down the hall “But” Meredith protests “Trust me” Mark says, as he looked around, Meredith nods, as they moved quickly down the hallway ending up in the lobby of the emergency room where Alex and Cristina were waiting. “Thank you Mark.” Meredith says her eyes filling with tears. Alex walked up to Meredith and put his arm around shoulder and led her out the doors of the hospital. “Come on partner lets get a drink.” Cristina says in a low voice putting her hand on Mark’s arm. He nodded, his thoughts on the tear stained face of Meredith Shepherd |

Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers Tower over me Alex walked Meredith out of the hospital and there was already a crowd gathered, waiting on outcome. Seeing Meredith’s tear stained face, they all started to come forward to offer their sympathies. Alex turned and goes down the block avoiding them all. “Thank you Alex.” Meredith whispers, her eyes on the ground, not daring to look up. Alex pulls her tighter against his side and finds a quiet bar not far from the hospital. He opens the door and Meredith walks in, still not looking up. “What are we doing here?” Meredith asks. “I need a drink, and so do you Meredith, take the edge off.” Alex replies. “I feel so numb Alex, he’s gone, he’s really gone.” Meredith says sadly and quietly. “I know.” Alex watched as Meredith slowly walks to the bar and sits, “tequila for my cousin, bourbon for me,” the bartender nodded and walked away. Alex heard the door open as Mark and Cristina walk in. The bartender is back with their drinks, “Sorry about your loss Mrs. Shepherd” Meredith flinches back as if he had hit her. “SORRY ALL EVERYONE CAN SAY IS I’M SORRY. MY HUSBAND IS DEAD.” Meredith’s small frame was then shaking from anger, she looked around and saw that everyone was staring at her, she looks down and laughs, “I’m still in my bikini and jeans from running the rentals this morning, oh god Alex.” Meredith started crying, this time they were not silent tears, they were gut wrenching sobs, Meredith crumbled to the floor, her legs unable to hold up anymore. Without thinking Cristina rushed forward, wrapping her arms around Meredith and rubbing her back. “Sshhh now, it’s going to be okay.” Cristina looks at Alex, questioningly. “We came by helicopter; I don’t have a car here.” Alex explained. “My apartment is a couple blocks from here; we can take her there and get her calmed down.” Mark tells them in a quiet voice, his heart was breaking for the small blonde being held by his partner. “Thanks.” Alex mumbles as he reaches to help Meredith up, she stood but looked completely lost as to what they expect her to do now, seeming to understand, Cristina wrapped one of her arms around Meredith’s waist, her other arm coming up and taking Meredith’s hand in hers. “Here we go now.” she whispers to Meredith as she nods to Mark. Mark understood and led his companions to his apartment. Opening the door, he stood back so Cristina and Meredith could walk by him. Cristina led Meredith to the bathroom as Mark shuts the door. “She is good with Meredith.” Alex looks at Mark wanting an explanation from Mark why a stranger was with his cousin not him. “Her husband was killed in a car accident almost 3 years ago; she knows what Meredith is going through. Though in Cris’s case, we were the first truck on the scene.” Mark rubs his face remembering that night “it was hard, she recognized the car as soon as we pulled up, I called for backup and pulled Cris out of the car moments before it blew up.” seeing Alex’s mouth drop open “the gas tank ignited, after the funeral Cristina asked me if I would consider moving from the street to join up with the pro-boat racing, it seemed like it would be fun.” “Today was not one of those days huh.” Alex asks sitting down on the couch. “No today was not one of those days.” Mark answers handing Alex a glass of amber colored liquor. Both men looked to the bathroom when they heard the heart breaking sobs again. “I need” Alex stops not knowing what he needed to do “I need to call Lexie, tell her.” “Who is Lexie?” “The manager of the bar, The Nest, you have been there right?” Alex asks Mark, who responded with a nod. “I’m going to take her some water.” Mark got to his feet walking into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water and the tissues on the counter, he walked back through the den, passing Alex, who is now on the phone, knocking quietly on the door. “Come on in Mark” Cristina answers the soft sound. Without saying anything Mark put the water and tissue box on the floor, and quietly closed the door again. Cristina returned her attention to the sobbing woman in her arms. Several hours later, Mark checked on Cristina and Meredith again and found Meredith sitting in middle of the floor, Cristina was facing her, and Mark can see that Meredith was just breathing. The bottle of water sat in front her unopened. Mark kneeled behind Cristina, “how is she doing?” “She won’t drink anything, she’s not talking, but she stopped crying” “Why don’t you let me try,” Cristina nodded and stood up, Mark went from kneeling to sitting. Mark joined Meredith on the floor, she didn’t seem to notice. But when the door closed behind Cristina, her eyes focused on Mark. “I feel like my heart is in pieces.” Meredith’s voice creaks, Mark picked up the water bottle, unscrewing the cap and handed it to Meredith, she took the bottle and drank deeply, “I don’t know how to live without him, but I” Meredith stopped looking at Mark, fresh tears making their way down her cheeks, “I” her small shoulders started shaking again, and without thinking Mark slid closer, and pulled Meredith to him, circling her in his arms. “What am I going to do Mark? I don’t know how.” Meredith managed to get out her voice low, and choked up. “You can do it Meredith, and there are people who will help you.” Meredith nodded against his chest, taking deep breaths until she calmed down. “I think I can go home now.” She sighed. “Okay, first let’s get you on your feet.” Mark said and gently lifted Meredith into a sitting position, nimbly got to his feet, Mark held out his hands to help her up. Meredith took his hands, Mark pulled her up, getting her to her feet. Mark put his hands on her shoulders steadying Meredith on her feet. He made sure Meredith was going to stay upright; Mark turned and opened the door of the bathroom, “how about we wash your face?” Meredith nodded, her eyes glazed over, Mark brought her to the sink and gently washed her face, then carefully guided her to his bedroom, she laid down automatically on the bed, Mark covered her with a blanket and started to leave. “Please stay with me.” the request was soft, the voice broken. Mark walked back over to the bed and laid down facing Meredith, she didn’t reach for him and he didn’t hold her. Meredith’s eyes drifted close, listening to Mark’s steady breaths. |

Yeah Cause we are broken What must we do to restore Our innocence And oh, the promise we adored Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole Meredith woke up to the smell of fresh coffee, looking over, she saw that someone had put a cup next to her and it was still steaming. Meredith sat up and reached for the cup. She looked out the window, lost in her own thoughts. The door slowly opened and Alex came in as quietly as he could. “Hey.” Alex greets Meredith as he makes his way to the bed, sitting down to join her. “Hi.” Meredith sighs, she looked out the window “There are things that need to be done Meredith.” Alex says quietly, trying not to push Meredith “I know.” Meredith says her head full of sorrow, “I need to call his mother, I didn’t even think about it last night.” Meredith’s eyes filled with tears, she brushed them away and took a deep breath, “ I can do this.” Alex nods, seeing Meredith straighten her shoulders as she climbed out of the bed. “I need to get back to Key West, I don’t even have my phone Alex.” Meredith said as she pulled on her shoes. “Mark said he would drive us to the helipad, I already called and they are waiting.” “Thanks Alex.” Meredith replies as they walk to the door of the bedroom. Meredith opens the door and walks out into the living room. “Hey you’re up.” Cristina exclaimed when she saw Meredith “Are you hungry?” she questioned. “ No but thank you.” Meredith replied looking around, her eyes found Mark’s as he walked out of the kitchen, a plate of eggs and bacon in hand. “Good morning, you need to eat Meredith.” Mark says simply as he put the food down on the table, he motioned for Meredith to sit in the chair that was pulled out. Meredith sighed and walked over to the table sitting down with a frown. “I’m not hungry.” Meredith sighed, looking down at the food. Mark pushed her chair in, and then reached for her coffee cup, his hand brushed hers, and they both felt a shock at the contact. Meredith ignored the feeling of attraction, and so did Mark. He walked quickly into the kitchen and refilled Meredith’s coffee cup; then he carefully walked back into the living room with the now full steaming cup. He took it back to the table, sat it back down but this time avoided contact with Meredith. “Seriously I’m not hungry Mark.” Meredith groans as she looked at the still full plate, Mark sighed and sat at the table with Meredith. “You need to eat, you have to keep your strength up, the next couple days are going to be hard.” Mark explains looking intently at Meredith. “Fine.” Meredith grumbles as she picked up her fork and started eating, soon the entire plate of food was gone, she sat her fork down on the plate, and looked up at Mark’s smiling face. “Shut up.” Meredith said laughing. “I like it when I’m right.” Mark replied a smile playing on his handsome face; Meredith rolled her eyes and pushed back from the table. “I need to get back to Key West, thing to do, plans to make.” Meredith says, losing the smile she had moments before, reality hit her hard like a ton of bricks. Mark noticed the change and stood up to join her. He put his hand on her shoulder. “It’s okay to be happy, it doesn’t mean you loved him any less Meredith.” Mark whispered as Meredith turned to look at him. She nodded then hugged Mark, sinking into his body, his arms went around her, the embrace feeling natural to them both. Meredith pulled back and looked up at him. “Thank you Mark” Meredith says, her voice low. “You are welcome. Let’s get you home.” Mark replies, he slowly released Meredith and took a step back, he held out his hand and Meredith took it, and let him lead her back to Alex and Cristina. “I’m ready.” Meredith says looking at Alex. Alex nodded, standing and going to Meredith, he folded her into his arms, kissing the top of her head. “I’ll be here, whatever you need.” Alex whispered to Meredith. “I know” was her whispered reply Meredith pulled back and smiled at Cristina, who came forward and hugged Meredith too. “Please call me, if you need to talk, whatever okay?” Cristina asked Meredith. “I will.” Meredith promised her heart warming with the thought of her new friend. “I’ll call you soon Cris.” “Okay” Cristina says. Mark held the door open and the cousins filed out, following Mark to his car. Soon Meredith and Alex were back in Key West. Meredith retrieved her phone and went onto the deck to call Helen. Taking a deep breath Meredith dialed to make the most dreaded call of her life. “Helen, its Meredith.” “Hello dear, how are you?” Helen asked “Helen I need.” Meredith wiped the tears away “I need to tell you something and it’s not easy.” “What’s wrong?” Helen questioned. “Derek had an accident yesterday, at the race.” Meredith pauses drawing up the strength to finish. “He didn’t make it.” Meredith waits and she can hear Helen crying through the phone “Helen I’m sorry I didn’t call yesterday, I was in shock.” “I’ll be on the first flight out Meredith.” Helen got out through the tears, without waiting for a reply she dropped the phone and sank to her knees as the pain overtook her. Meredith slowly closed her phone, knowing that soon Helen, and Derek’s four sisters would be there. A groan escaped from Meredith, they would be everywhere, evading her space. Not that she didn’t love his family, her family she corrected herself, but it didn’t change the fact, Meredith just wanted to be alone. She heard the door open and Alex joined her. “You okay?” Alex questioned sitting down. “No.” Meredith’s reply was raw with emotion, “No but I will get through it.” “Whatever you need, I’m here Meredith.” Alex said looking at his cousin, wishing he could have made her pain ease. “I know” Meredith says, her voice low. “I’m going to take a walk.” Without waiting for a reply Meredith walked down the steps and onto the sand. She walked down the beach, finally stopping at the dock where Derek’s Jet Ski rental shop was. She sighed and walked down the dock and found the hidden key, letting herself in, and she went to Derek’s office. She had never really been in the office. Meredith sat at the desk, looking through the drawers, trying to familiarize herself with where everything was. But then Meredith’s already shattered world came to screeching halt, tittering on the edge again. Meredith pulled a handful of pictures out of the desk drawer, flipping through them. They were pictures of Derek, her Derek with a woman with flaming red hair. She knew the pictures were recent, because they were taken on his is new race boat that was only a couple months old. Taking the pictures with her, Meredith left the shop, running all the way back to the house. She slammed the door behind her startling Alex. “What happened?” Alex asked seeing the stricken look on Meredith’s face. “Do you know who this is?” Meredith asked holding out the pictures for Alex to see. He took the pictures quickly flipping through them. “Maybe they are old.” Alex offers, hoping that what he feared was not true. “They aren’t, that is the new boat, and see he has his tattoo. Derek got that tattoo on our one year anniversary.” Meredith says turning from Alex. Alex continues to look through the pictures, his stomach dropping when he came to one with Derek in bed, obviously naked, followed by one of couple kissing. “I, I don’t know to feel Alex. I’m so angry I could kill him, but then it hits me, that the man I loved, so much it hurt at times is already dead.” Meredith said as she looked back at Alex. “I” Meredith stops at the sound of a knock at the door. She walked to the door, yanking it open, ready to tell whoever it was to go to hell, she found Mark standing at the door. “Hey, I was checking on the house I have down here, and wanted to swing by.” Mark says, Meredith stepped back, letting back inside. She walked to Alex, taking a picture of Derek and the redhead from the stack. “Do you know who this is?” Meredith asks Mark. His face goes white as he looks at the picture, his grip almost crushing it. “That’s Addison” Mark says, chocking on the name. “And who exactly is Addison?” Meredith questioned, looking at Mark, taking in his expression of rage. “Until five seconds ago, she was my girlfriend.” Mark growls, walking further into the house. He held out his hand and Alex gave him the pictures. Mark flips through them, putting them down, when he got to the picture of Addison naked in bed. “I need to make a call.” Mark says and Meredith pointed to the deck. Mark quickly walked outside, shutting the glass behind him. “How could he do this Alex?” Meredith asks her head dropped her eyes on the ground as tears fell. “I wish I could answer that question Meredith, but I can’t.” Alex answers. He started to say more but they are interrupted again by a knock on the door. Meredith goes again to answer. “WHAT!” Meredith yells as she opens the door. Shock over taking her as she came face to face, with the woman, the woman with the flaming red hair, the woman she just found out had been sleeping with her husband. “What in the hell do you want.” Meredith growled, she wanted any reason to hit this woman. “I need to talk to Mark.” Addison stammered seeing the look of pure hatred on Meredith’s face. The door opened and closed as Mark came in from the porch. He walked up behind Meredith, putting on hand on her shoulder, the other on the door. “Go to hell Addison.” Mark simply says as he slams the door. Mark guides Meredith back to the living room, pushing her into a chair. “Where’s the alcohol.” Mark asks. Meredith points to the fully stocked bar at the end of the room. Mark walked over and poured three glasses of amber liquid bringing them back to the cousins. Mark handed them each a glass then drained his own. Meredith looked down at the glass, and hurled it against the wall. Alex handed her his glass and lifted it to her lips. This time she drank. Her eyes locked with Marks. A moment of silent understanding passed. “I have to pull myself together. Derek’s family will be here in a couple hours. I” Meredith takes a deep breath, steadying herself “his family does not need to know, he is gone and we can’t change that.” Meredith says. “But.” Alex starts to protest. “No” Meredith cuts him off, “I loved him, he died then I found out he was screwing around on me. I will fall apart later, but I see no reason to break his mother’s heart more than it already is.” Meredith explains. “You are better person that I am.” Alex replies. “Maybe, but my world is in shambles and I have to do what I think is right.” Meredith says, still looking at Mark. “I understand.” Mark says, he walked over to where Meredith sat, pulling her to her feet. He wrapped his arms around her. “You can make it through this Meredith.” he whispers. Meredith nods, letting herself find comfort in his arms. |

Lock the doors Cause I like to capture this voice it came to me tonight So everyone will have a choice And under red lights I'll show myself it wasn't forged We're at war We live like this That night, with Derek’s mother and sisters safely tucked away upstairs, Meredith silently walked out the door and down to the beach; she sat on the sand, finding the sound of the waves soothing away the edges of her anger. Meredith’s eyes closed and she took a deep breath steadying herself. “You are out late.” Mark called out to Meredith, she opened her eyes, finding him walking down the beach towards her. Her lips lifted in a small smile. “So are you.” she replied. Mark smiled in response, reaching Meredith he dropped down in the sand next to her. “How are things going with Derek’s mom and sisters?” Mark asked Meredith. Meredith shrugged, she was still trying to block out the memory of the Derek’s long term deception. “They are there, and asking questions. Loftin, Derek’s twin sister knows something else is going on, but his mom is devastated.” Meredith replied her eyes trained on the waves as they came to shore. “Are you going to tell Loftin? Or any of them?” Mark questioned “Loftin probably, the rest of them, no, they all worshiped Derek, he was the perfect son, and they thought the perfect husband.” Meredith’s voice took on a bitter tone. She stopped and took a deep breath, and tried again, “I did love him, and we were happy. I am still struggling with the fact that he cheated on me.” “I know.” was Mark’s simple reply. They sat quietly on the beach for while. “Meredith, do you ever wish that you hadn’t met Derek, moved to Key West?” Mark asked his eyes on her face. Meredith studies Mark’s eyes, for several minutes. “No.” Meredith started “I loved him. And deep down at some point I think we were happy. But no I don’t wish I had never met him, we had a good life, or so I thought. But I wouldn’t change where I am. I love Key West. I love my bar; I love the house, the beach, and the people. So Derek turned out to be an asshole. It happens.” Meredith explained. “But it shouldn’t happen.” Mark stated, his eyes shone with sincerity “No. It shouldn’t happen. Not to anyone. But he is gone, and I am going to get through it. Finding out this happened almost makes it easier for him to be gone.” Meredith stated the tears filled her eyes. “I still miss him, he only died yesterday but it feels like another life.” Meredith said as she wiped away the tears. “Are you cold? Do you need to go back in?” Mark asked concerned for the small blonde. Meredith shook her head, again staring out at the water. “You want to go for a midnight ride?” Meredith asked Mark “Now?” Mark said questioningly “Yes now. I thought I would never get back in a boat, but it seems fitting. So I’m going to go, but I thought you might want to go with me.” Meredith explained as she stood up. “I’ll go with you” Mark said as he stood up. “Good.” Meredith smiled, took a step towards Mark, intending to hug him. But Mark stepped back, Meredith face fell, her arms dropped to her sides “Sorry.” Meredith whispered, as she turned back to her house. Mark closed his eyes grapping her shoulders and turned her back around. He tipped her face up to meet his eyes “I am wildly attracted to you Meredith. But your husband just died we found out today that he had been sleeping with my girlfriend.” Mark tried to explain “And you don’t want to make a mistake.” Meredith said “Yes. I don’t want to take advantage. “Mark replied. “Friends?” Meredith asked “Yes.” Mark said smiling. He hugged Meredith. They held on to each other drawing in strength, and comfort. After a minute they pull back and smile. “Come on. Let’s go for that ride.” Meredith said over her shoulder as she started walking down the beach. Mark jogged to catch up to her. When they got to the dock, Meredith eased the boat out of the slip, and they slowly exited the little cove. “This is nice.” Mark said into the night air. “I always loved nighttime rides, they are very peaceful.” Meredith said as they hit open water. Meredith drove the boat around the island, pointing out landmarks, different beaches; she anchored the boat near the small cove that housed the dock. Meredith came around to where Mark was standing. Sensing her behind him Mark turned and pulled her into his arms. “It’s going to be okay.” Mark stated. Meredith nodded against his chest. “I know. Derek’s funeral is Friday, at the beach.” Meredith told Mark. “After the funeral his mom wants us to scatter his ashes at sea.” “Seems appropriate.” mark said. “Yeah.” Meredith mumbles pulling back from Mark going back and pulling up the anchor, then she took the boat in. After the boat was safely secured to the dock, Mark got out and held out his hand for Meredith. She took his hand and he pulled her onto the dock. They slowly walked hand in hand back to her house. “Thank you.” Meredith said softly when they got to the bottom of stairs for the deck. “Your welcome.” Mark said just as softly brushing the hair out of her eyes. “We are having lunch tomorrow at Sloppy Joes, you should come.” Meredith said, slowly starting to climb the stairs. “I don’t want to intrude.” Mark replied, his eyes never leaving Meredith’s. “You won’t be, the pro-racing president is hosting the lunch in honor of Derek.” Meredith said. “Then I’ll be there.” Mark said smiling. “Good. I’ll see you in the morning. Goodnight Mark.” Meredith said when she got to the top of the stairs. “Goodnight.” Mark whispered as she silently opened the door and slipped inside. He turned away smiling. When Meredith shut the door, a smile played on her lips. But then a light flipped on and Meredith gasped in shock. “Loftin, what are you doing up?” Meredith asked moving further into the den. “I couldn’t sleep. I knew something wasn’t right, so I went looking for you. I found these.” Loftin replied, sliding the pictures forwards on the coffee table. “Why didn’t you tell me he was cheating you?” “I found out today. Just a couple hours before you guys got here.” Meredith explained, dropping onto the couch next to Loftin. “I can’t believe him. I am so mad. Are you going to tell mom?” Loftin questioned. “NO.” Meredith nearly shouted. “Sorry, it’s been a rough 36 hours. I don’t see the point in breaking your mother’s heart anymore.” “Okay. Were you going to tell me?” Loftin’s eyes searched Meredith’s. “Yes. I was, I was going to wait. I knew you would find out.” Meredith replied. “I feel responsible. I made you go to that race, meet my brother. I wanted you two to go out. My best friend and my twin brother. I’m sorry he turned cheated on you, what an ass.” Loftin said the pain obvious in her voice. Meredith leaned over embracing Loftin. “It’s not your fault Loftin.” Meredith whispered. The tears came then, Meredith letting her guard down. And there on couch, they watched the sun come up, neither one slept. They held each other as they wept, for the loss of a brother, a husband, a lover. For the loss of the Derek they thought they knew. |

Before I forget this was Derek’s boat ![]() Keep me safe inside Your arms like towers Tower over me The morning of Derek’s funeral dawned warm and sunny. Meredith was sitting on the deck, facing the sunrise, and heard the door open behind her. She twisted around to see Loftin coming outside with two cups of coffee. “Morning.” Meredith greeted Loftin, turning back around. “Morning.” Loftin responded setting both cups down and then settled in the chair next to Meredith. “Did you sleep at all?” “A little. I’m I don’t know how to feel anymore Loftin. Derek died a week ago. And I’m numb where Derek is concerned. I’m angry don’t get me wrong, but I’m sad too. The man I married, cheated on me, which I didn’t find out about till after he died. It sounds like something out of a bad TV movie, and then there is.” Meredith stopped looking at Loftin then she averted her gaze. “Then there is what Meredith?” Loftin asked, she knew her best friend wasn’t saying something “I, its nothing.” Meredith said reaching for her coffee. Loftin’s hand stopped her. “It’s not nothing. What else Mer?” Loftin asked gently. “Mark. There, is… something… it could be really special but I feel so guilty even thinking about a relationship with another man. Because my husband is dead, then I remember that Derek broke our marriage vows and” Meredith said the words just tumbling out of her mouth. Loftin smiled sadly at her. “Don’t feel guilty Meredith. We all want you to be happy.” Loftin said quietly. Meredith finally looked up and tears sprang to her eyes when she saw her best friends face. “I shouldn’t have said anything. About any of it.” Meredith said wiping the tears away. Tears for hurting her best friend, her sister. “No. You should have told me. Derek was my brother and despite his faults, I love him. But I meant what I said. I want you to be happy.” Loftin explained. Meredith nodded and Loftin reached for her hand, squeezing it gently. “Come on we need to get ready for the funeral.” Meredith said pulling Loftin up with her. Once they were both standing the two women embraced. Later that day, Meredith was standing on her boat with Loftin when Helen, Nancy, Kelly and Ellie came down the dock towards them. Meredith’s boat ![]() “This should be fun.” Meredith muttered “What?” Loftin asked laughing “The last time they were out on the boat, Nancy fell overboard and Kelly got sea sick.” Meredith quickly explained trying not to laugh as the 4 other woman boarded the boat. “Welcome to the Key.” “The Key?” Nancy asked. “yes, when Derek and I lived in Miami, I had a boat called Lock, which was a standing joke, a couple months ago we sold it and bought this one, and decided to call it Key.” Meredith explained. “Oh, what are you doing with Derek’s boat?” Nancy questioned narrowing her eyes at Meredith. Meredith clenched her jaw and then took a deep breath. “I am selling it.” Meredith said, her voice tight “Why? What if we want it?” Nancy demanded “You want it, have it Nancy but last I checked you lived in Denver, and there is not a place for a speed boat that size. Maybe a cigar boat on the lake but it is meant for salt water. But if you want it, take it!” Meredith said, trying to contain her temper. Kelly pulled Nancy to the other side of the boat trying to talk to her. “I will not calm down! I saw her last night! Sitting on the beach with that paramedic who says he tried to save Derek. That bastard probably let him drown.” Nancy screamed. Loftin put her hands on Meredith’s shoulders to keep her from crossing to Nancy. Meredith drew a steadying breath. “Mark is my friend Nancy. And he did try to save Derek. Anyone who watched the race could have seen that. You selfish bitch. You are pawing at Derek’s possessions he is GONE. NOT COMING BACK!” Meredith responded. Tears made their way down Meredith’s cheeks. “Now we are going to go spread his ashes. Then I want you out of my house. “ “It’s my brother’s house.” Nancy sneered “Actually its mine, the house, the Nest, and Rockstar Rentals. They are all in my name. See your brother didn’t start making money in racing till a couple years ago, after we moved to Key West. So you and your bitchy attitude need to go.” Meredith said with a smile. Laughing Loftin untied the lines and Meredith backed the boat out of its slip. She calmly headed out to sea, after about twenty minutes Helen went up to Meredith. “I’m sorry for Nancy Meredith. She always looked up to him. She depended on him; she was so young when their father died Nancy looked to Derek like a dad.” Helen tried to explain. Meredith shrugged, not in the mood for talking. Meredith sat back and watched as Derek’s mother and sisters each said something about Derek, they all turned to Meredith expectantly. Meredith slowly stood up and walked over to where Loftin still stood. Loftin put her arm around Meredith’s waist. “Derek was a great love. He had a way to make everything feel okay and put everyone at ease. I’ll miss who he was.” Meredith said simply. She turned around and went back to the helm and set back for shore. They had been going about five minutes when “Villa one to the Key, Villa one to the Key.” the radio called. Meredith picked up the radio and responded. “Key to Villa one, come back.” Meredith waited on the response. “Key there is a storm heading your direction, coming in south by southwest, 45mph. It’s getting nasty.” Meredith now recognized the voice. “Villa one, Key heading into port, ready the rescue boat. ETA 15 minutes, Key out.” Meredith said, she put the radio down and reached for the throttle “Meredith, be careful, Villa One out.” Meredith smiled, she looked over her shoulder. “I need everyone to put on their lift jackets and buckle in. That was not a request; we are going to hit a storm before we get back.” Meredith said. “You said 15 minutes, but it took us nearly half an hour to get out here.” Kelly said, as she strapped herself in. “But I was going slowly. Everyone in?” Meredith said with a grin, she saw that they were, she sped the boat up, the nose of the boat lifting out of the water. “I thought this was a pleasure boat?” Helen asked, shouting over the wind “Power Pleasure Cruiser.” Meredith yelled back. The wind picked up and Meredith responded. By the time they docked they were all soaked. Mark was standing on the dock, keys in hand to the local rescue boat. When he saw Meredith’s boat, he helped Meredith and Loftin tie it in, and helped the women off the boat. Meredith and Mark led the way to the Nest. “Why are we here?” Nancy asked. “Because it too nasty for them to let cars of the island. Nancy, from the looks of it the swell is over 7 feet, bridge will be closed.” Meredith said as she moved to the back. Mark followed her into the office. “Hey.” Mark said quietly. “Hey. Thanks for the warning call.” Meredith replied, turning around. Mark’s grew wide. Meredith’s white tank top had become completely see thru because of the rain. He could her breasts very clearly, her nipples standing out because of the sudden cold. Her top clung her body, clinging to her damp skin. Meredith smiled at Mark and reached in her desk for a dry set of clothes. Mark turned to give her privacy, Meredith came around the desk and tapped him on the shoulder. “I’m dressed now.” Meredith said her voice rough with desire. Mark not trusting his voice nodded in agreement, his hands itched to touch her, to peel away her clothes and kiss each patch of new skin he uncovered, and Mark tried to stop thinking about Meredith’s naked body arching under his as he drove her to new heights of passion. Meredith raised her eyebrows at Mark. He was biting his lip, and staring intently at her. “I’m.” Mark started his voice thick with desire. Meredith smiled and put both her hands on his shoulders. She stretched up and kissed him gently. “I’m... too Mark.” Meredith whispered. She kissed him again, this time Mark gathered her to his chest, her body molding to his, her mouth opened Mark’s. Meredith’s tongue met Mark’s, entering in a sensual dual of senses, velvet stroke against velvet stroke. Meredith’s hands wound their way through Mark’s hair pulling him closer still. Mark’s arms tightened, anchoring Meredith to him. Mark’s mouth left Meredith’s making his way along her jaw, down the line of her throat. Mark’s hands reach for the hem of Meredith’s shirt when there is a knock at the door. Mark lifted his head and gently kissed Meredith again then released her from the circle of his arms. Meredith rested her head on Mark’s chest for a minute, trying to calm her racing heart and her raging desire for the man who with a few kisses had reduced her to a bundle of raw nerves. Taking a deep breath, Meredith pulled back and smiled at Mark. She moved to the door, and opened it to see Loftin standing there. “Hey, sorry. Do you have any towels back here?” Loftin asked knowing she had interrupted the two. “Yeah sure.” Meredith turned and went to the cabinet behind her desk. She pulled out some extra shirts with the Nest Logo on them. She walked back with the shirts, and towels. “Come on, let’s get back out there.” Meredith looked over her shoulder and smiled at Mark, her lips still tingling from his. Mark nodded, and followed the women back into the front of the bar. |

Cause we are broken What must we do to restore Our innocence And oh, the promise we adored Give us life again cause we just wanna be whole The days turned to weeks, the weeks into months. Meredith and Mark had not kissed since the day of the funeral. Both said it was too soon, they both wished it wasn’t too soon. They fell into a comfortable routine, when Mark was in town he would stay with Meredith, they would walk on the beach, hold hands, go out on the boat. Even still they denied the burning desire they had for each other, each wanting time to heal, to recover from the betrayal. Meredith moved inside as the storm came across the water, she curled up in her chair and watched as the storm hit the shore, eyes growing wide as the waves kept getting bigger, crashing harder onto the beach. The weather continued to get worse, the sky growing blacker, the rain slashing down on the house, lightening flashing across the sky. Meredith had always loved storms, and she snuggled further back into her chair, and her eyes drifted closed the sound of the storm all around her. Her thoughts on a certain EMT, hoping he wasn’t trying to drive in this weather. Meredith woke with the feel of his lips against hers, gently brushing against hers. She reached for him and pulled him closer running her tongue against his bottom lip. His mouth opened over Meredith’s, his tongue stroking against hers. Mark’s hands cupped her face, tilting her head to deepen the kiss. Meredith impatient after months of denying the passion running through her, reaches for the hem of Mark’s shirt pulling it up his chest, breaking away from his mouth only long enough pull is over his head. Her mouth rejoined his, they were drinking each other in when Mark scooped Meredith out of the chair and carried her into her bedroom. Setting her down on her feet, He pulled back and looked into her eyes; he smiled and gently kissed her again. Slowly he peeled away her shirt, her breasts falling into his hands. Mark dipped his head and took one of her nipples in his mouth, sucking on it, with Meredith’s moans of pleasure the only sound in the room. Her hands urged Mark back up to her mouth. Mark lifted her easily in his arms again, he walked over to the bed laying Meredith down, he joined her, laying next to her. Meredith pushed Mark onto his back, and she straddled him, leaning down to kiss his chest, moving her way down his torso to the edge of his pants. Meredith slid further down, and moved off of him, reaching for his belt, with nimble fingers she deftly unbuckled his belt, and reached for the snap on his jeans, lowering the zipper. Together they freed Mark of his jeans, Meredith hooked her fingers in the top of Mark’s boxers, and slowly pulled them down, revealing his already hard penis. Meredith licked her lips and lowered her head. She took the tip in her mouth and slowly took more of him in her mouth; soon Mark’s hands pulled Meredith back up to meet his mouth. His hands worked quickly to rid Meredith of her panties, Mark flipped Meredith onto her back, her legs opening to him. Mark worked his way down her body. He kissed the top of each of her thighs, his hands opening her further, he kissed his way with light kissed to her core, and his tongue flicked her clit. Meredith’s hips shot off the bed in response. Again and again with Mark’s tongue against her Meredith’s orgasm exploded starting deep in her belly. Mark moved his hot mouth against Meredith’s sweat slickened skin, slowly working his way to her mouth. When their tongues met again, Mark slid into her wet heat. Meredith’s back arched as he filled her, slowly Mark slid out and pushed his way back in. Meredith’s nails dug into his back as they moved together. Sweaty skin slid against sweaty skins, mouths joined in passion as they moved each other in passion, driving and filling. Meredith cried out as her orgasm exploded through her body, tingling down to tips of her toes, and the tips of her fingers, Mark followed behind Meredith, with the feeling of the tightening of her walls around him. Mark moved off Meredith and she laid her head against his chest. Still no words had been spoken. Their eyes closed, a satisfied sleep overtaking them. Meredith woke up to a crack of thunder, she looked around. There she sat, still in her chair; she skin was slick with sweat. “Damn.” Meredith mumbled, as she pulled herself out the chair and moved to the thermostat, “SHIT!” she exclaimed, when she saw it was 85 in the house. She was walking to the vent when the door opened and Mark rushed in. “Hey.” Mark said quietly, his eyes taking in Meredith, with her sleep heavy eyes, her small black tank top clinging to her damp skin, with no pants on, only a pair of boy shorts underwear. Mark lost all thought when Meredith took a step towards him, the passion raging in her eyes. He crossed to her and kissed her. As his mouth slanted over hers, she wound her hands through his hair and pulled him closer. When Meredith pulled back she led him into kitchen, turning on the light, she went to the refrigerator and pulled out the leftovers from dinner. Mark came up behind her, and his hands circled her waist, his lips found their way to her neck, Meredith tilted her head over to give him better access. Soon he pulled away, and Meredith moved away from him. “You okay?” Mark asked as Meredith moved to sit on one of the barstools. “I had a really vivid dream and I want to make sure I’m awake this time.” Meredith explained. “What kind of dream Mer?” Mark questioned his eyes glittering with desire. Meredith bit her lip and looked at him. She could feel herself growing wet remembering her dream. “Well, I will show you after you eat.” Meredith said, patting the counter next to her. Mark picked up his plate and slowly walked over to Meredith. He sat next her and quickly ate his dinner. “So why did you risk the storm to get here?” Meredith asked “Not that I’m not happy you are here.” “I couldn’t wait to see you. It’s been a week since I saw you and it will be two weeks till I can get back down here. The race this weekend is off Cape Cod, and the week after we are doing a demonstration off New York.” Mark explained. He reached for Meredith’s hand and took it in his. Gently squeezing it, he lifted it up and kissed her knuckles. “Be careful.” was Meredith quiet response. Her eyes searched his. “I will be.” Mark told her. He stood up and pulled Meredith into his arms, she laid her head against his chest. She found peace in his arms, feeling whole again, whole for the first time in months. She looked up at him, smiling. “What?” Mark said with a smile. “Just come home to me.” Meredith said. She pulled back from Mark and put his plate in the sink and walked to the door. She held out her hand to him. “Come on, I’ll show you what my dream was about.” Before she could finish her sentence Mark was off his stool and taking her hand. |

Tower over me Tower over me And I'll take the truth at any cost Mark took Meredith’s hand and she led him to her bedroom, she closed the door behind him. Mark pulled Meredith to him, his hands on her hips, he lifted her up, her legs went around his waist. Meredith brushed Mark’s lips with hers, just a teasing touch of skin. Meredith kissed Mark on both of his cheeks, and then again brushed his mouth with hers. Mark walked them over to the bed and gently threw Meredith on the bed, she landed with a surprised look on her face. Meredith bit her lip as Mark pulled off his shirt, he joined her on the bed, kneeling above her, his arms on either side of Meredith’s chest. Meredith pulled him down to her and gently kissed him again with teasing light brushes of lips. Mark cupped Meredith’s face and he took control of the kiss, his tongue stroked against her bottom lip, Meredith moaned at the feel of the silky touch. When her mouth opened Mark slid his tongue into her mouth, and stroked against hers, Meredith responded passionately, her hands pushed as his shoulders, rolling them over. Once Meredith was on top, she pulled off her damp top, tossing it across the room. Mark’s eyes grew dark with desire. “So this dream what did we do?” Mark asked his voice rough with passion. In response Meredith leaned down and kissed his jaw, and with light, teasing kisses worked her way down his throat, across his collarbone, down his chest. She flicked his nipples with her tongue; she continued to kiss her way down his chest, her hands running over his flat stomach, the muscles bunching under hands. Mark’s hands gripped her hips and rolled her over onto her back. He stood up and quickly shed his pants, Meredith licked her lips as Mark lowed his boxers, freeing is already hard cock. Mark held out his hands and pulled Meredith up on her knees on the bed. He wrapped his arms around her, both drawing a breath at the feel of skin against skin, Meredith kissed Mark, she leaned back and they fell back against the bed. Mark moved off to the side and with gentle, exploring hands found her already sensitive nipples, rolling them gently between his fingers. He dipped his head and took on now aching point in his mouth, his tongue swirling around the rose colored bud. He moved his mouth to her other breast, she wound her fingers through his hair as he moved his hot mouth across her already sweat slickened skin. When Mark got to the waist of her panties his finger ran around the rim and slowly pulled them down, Meredith lifted her hips and Mark slid them off her hips and down her legs, and then pulling them free of her. Mark kissed her stomach slowly working his way down her hips. He kissed his way down her thighs, which fell open with wanton desire for him. Mark circled his tongue on the inside of her thighs, closer and closer he circled, Meredith whimpered as he moved closer to her core. Mark’s fingers dipped into her wet het and her hips shot off the bed. Mark’s soft laughter filled the room. His tongue founds it way, sliding across her clit, Meredith’s hands grabbed the sheets as Mark’s mouth worked its sensual magic. Meredith felt her orgasm building and her breathing came in short bursts as it exploded through her body. Mark slowly worked his mouth back up her body, lips met in hot desire. “Now Mark. I need you now.” Meredith said her voice low and full of desire. Mark moved over Meredith and slid into her, filling her completely. Meredith moaned in pleasure, as Mark pulled out and filled her again. Her legs went around his waist, her hips moving in time with his. Meredith’s hands grabbed at Mark’s shoulders, her nails scratching down his back as another orgasm rolled through her. Mark’s exploded with one more thrust, he collapsed on top of Meredith. Her arms held him to her. Her lips found his in a sweet kiss. Mark moved off of Meredith and he propped himself up on one elbow and looked down at her. “Did we do that in your dream?’ Mark asked “Yes. Yes we did, but the real thing was so much better.” Meredith said a smile played on her lips. Mark brushed the hair out of her eyes, and laid a gentle kiss on her lips. “When do you leave?” Meredith asked Mark, she didn’t want to know the answer. “I need to go in a couple hours, Cris and I are taking our boat up there, and we leave at dawn.” Mark replied, his fingers stroking her cheek. “Then I want to spend the last couple hours in your arms.” Meredith said with a smile. Nodding Mark laid down next to Meredith, and pulled her close. Meredith woke up with Mark and made him breakfast. They walked hand in hand down to the dock, before Mark boarded the rescue boat, he pulled Meredith to him, his lips brushed hers, they tightened their grip and the kiss turned passionate. “We need to go.” Cristina said as she watched them embrace in a lovers kiss. Nodding Mark and Meredith separated. Mark lightly kissed her again. “Come back to me.” Meredith said, her eyes locking with Marks. “I will.” Mark replied, then took both of her hands and kissed them both. “You be safe.” “Of course.” Meredith replied. “Go, before I drag you back home, to bed.” Mark nodded and got on the boat, Cristina backed it out of the slip and Meredith waved as they left. It was there that Alex found her hours later. “Hey everyone was looking for you.” Alex exclaimed running up to Meredith. “I’m okay, Mark left for a couple weeks and...” Meredith stopped looking at Alex. “He’ll come back.” Alex said with a smile. “Come on real life is waiting.” Meredith nodded and walked down the dock with Alex, but her thoughts, were on Mark. And Mark’s they were on Meredith too. |

For your listening pleasure tonight, I have three songs through out the update. Haunted by Evanescence watch/listen That afternoon Meredith was working at the Nest, when she looked up and came face to face with Addison. “What the hell do you want?” Meredith said, eyes full of anger “I need to talk to Mark and he isn’t answering his phone.” Addison stammered “He’s in international waters, and he doesn’t want to talk to you.” Meredith replied, her anger building that this woman dared to come into her bar. She slammed a shot glass down on the bar and filled it full of tequila, she took the shot and look at Addison. “What, what do you want? Isn’t it enough you slept with my husband?” Addison’s eyes filled with tears “I’m pregnant.” Meredith stared at the now sobbing red-haired woman, with steady hands she poured another shot and swallowed it. She took a box of tissues and put them on the bar, sliding them closer to Addison. “Whose is it?” Meredith asked. No emotion’s played on her face. “I don’t know. I slept with them both.” Addison said choking on the words. Silently Meredith bit her lip to keep from screaming. “Lexie I’m going home for the day.” Meredith said. Without another word to Addison Meredith turned and left the bar. She quickly walked to Rockstar Rentals. She turned on the ship to shore radio. “Villa One to South East Rescue 5, Villa one to South East Rescue 5.” Meredith said into the radio, her fingers drummed on the edge of the desk. “South East Rescue 5 to Villa One come back.” the radio broke the silence. Snatching the receiver off the desk “Cris, I need to talk to Mark.” Meredith breathed out. “Sure.” Meredith heard Cristina calling for Mark. “Hey babe.” mark’s smooth voice came across the radio “Go to channel 11” Meredith said and spun the dial “What’s wrong?” Mark asked when they were on the same channel “Your ex-girlfriend came to see me tonight at the bar.” Meredith said, trying to keep from crying. “What did she want?” Mark asked, hearing the tears in his lover’s voice. “She’s pregnant. And she doesn’t know if its yours, or Derek’s.” Meredith said, the tears overflowed and ran down her cheeks. “It can’t be mine, unless she has already had the baby.” Mark said, relief in his voice. He wanted to be there, to hold Meredith. “What?” Meredith said, the words not quit sinking in yet. “she looked very pregnant.” “The last time Addie and I had sex was 2 months before Derek died. I had been out with the rescue boat, and when I was home, she wasn’t in the mood.” Mark explained. “That means…. its Derek’s.” Meredith stated, her tears now accompanied by anger. “Yeah.” Mark said quietly. Meredith closed her eyes and tried to calm herself. “Meredith?” “I need to go. Call me when you get to Cape Cod.” Meredith said her voice, tight with emotion. “Meredith.” Mark started. “I’m okay. I’ll be okay.” Meredith said. “Be careful. call me when you get to port.” “Okay.” mark said. “Be alone when you call.” Meredith said a smile on her face. “That I can do. SE Rescue 5 out.” Mark said smiling at the radio, his thoughts at what Meredith had planned. “Villa One out, I miss you Mark.” Meredith said, wishing that Mark was there with her. “I miss you too. Be safe.” Mark replied. Meredith smiled an turned off the radio. She stood up and walked out the office. She walked with a determined step to the house. Meredith opened the door and turned on the radio. She opened the garage door, and walked back in with boxes. She set two boxes on the stairs went took the third into the den. She put the box on the coffee table. She went to the mantel, and took the large framed photo of her and Derek’s wedding day. Laughing, she walked over the box and put it in the bottom. Meredith walked around the room, taking pictures, mementos, other reminders of Derek. She filled up the box and took it out to the garage storage room. When she walked back in the house the took another box with her. Meredith started at the bottom of the stairs, and took the long line of pictures down as she went up the stairs. She came back down with box, and it joined its mate in the storage room. Solitude by Evanescence watch/listen With determined look Meredith took the last two boxes upstairs. Going into her room, she placed the boxes on her bed. Walking into the bathroom she gathered all of Derek’s toiletries and threw them away. Back in the bedroom, she again went through and gathered the pictures. She sat on the bed, tears overtaking her. The picture had been taken only weeks before he died. They had been out on The Key and Alex took a picture of Meredith and Derek looking into each other’s eyes. “What happened to us Derek?” Meredith asked, she looked back down at the picture. She closed her eyes and threw the picture against the wall. The glass shattered, and the picture fell to the ground. Meredith looked away, and wiped way her tears. She walked to what was Derek’s side of the bed, and emptied the drawers. She continued to pick up his things and pack them in the boxes. She took the now full boxes down stairs. When she came back into her bedroom she had two large garment boxes. She carefully and meticulous packed all of Derek’s clothes away. She took the boxes downstairs. Meredith looked at her watch and got in her car and left. When she came back, she pulled the large bags from the car she went upstairs. With a quiet acceptance Meredith stripped the bed of the comforter and sheets, she had picked out with Derek. Quietly Meredith made the bed. New bedding ![]() Meredith went back downstairs. She looked around and sighed. She could still feel Derek everywhere. 3 Doors Down Its not my time Watch/Listen “DAMNIT! FUCK YOU Derek! She’s PREGNANT! YOU ASSHOLE! YOU TOLD ME YOU DIDN’T WANT KIDS YOU SELFISH BASTARD!” Meredith screamed into the empty house. She went over to the phone called information. “Yes that’s right; I want you to come get all of the furniture. YES TONIGHT. Thank you.” Meredith put the phone down. She picked up a catalogue an flipped through it. Smiling she picked the phone up again and dialed again. She ordered new furniture. The salesman promised it would be there the next day. With a sigh Meredith stood up and went to the door, letting the movers in. She watched with sad eyes they carried out the living room furniture. Once it was gone Meredith stood in her empty living room, her head dropped to her chest, her arms wrapped around her torso and she sank to her knees. There she sat, in the shell of what used to be her home with a man she never really knew. Meredith was broken from her stupor by her phone beeping. Standing up Meredith retrieved it from her bag. Get a glass of wine and relax. Watch the waves and know that I wish I was there. You are beautiful can’t wait to hold you again. ~ mark Meredith smiled and sent him back Come home safe to me She closed her phone and went to the liquor cabinet, and poured a glass of wine, she stepped onto the porch sliding the glass shut behind her. And there Meredith sat in the morning. With a steaming cup of coffee, she watched the sunrise. She heard the truck pull up to the house, going inside, she let them in as they set up her new living room. ![]() With a smile Meredith closed the door. She sat on the couch and her eyes had just drifted closed with her phone rang. With a sigh she pulled it out of her back pocket and smiled when she saw it was Mark. “Morning baby.” Meredith greeted him. “Morning. You okay?” Mark asked concern in his voice. Meredith looked around and smiled. “Yeah I am.” Meredith answered the smile evident. “So, I’m alone, what did you have in mind?” Mark questioned, he laid back on the bed, clad only is his boxers. Meredith stood up and walked up the stairs, she pulled back the covers “hang on.” Meredith said quickly, striping off her clothes. She laid down on the bed and picked the phone up. “what are you wearing?” “my boxers.” Mark replied, he could feel is cock tightening. “Are you naked Meredith?” “hmm hmm.” Meredith whispered, she put her phone on speaker, and set it on the pillow next to her. “Mark do you want to know what I am doing?” “Yes.” mark said, his voice barely over a whisper, Meredith ran her fingers over her nipples, playing lightly with the tips, “I’m playing with my nipples.” Meredith said her voice heavy with desire. Mark looked down and the head of his cock was peaking out of his boxers, he stood up and pulled them off, settling again on the bed. “What do you want me to do Mark?” Meredith asked. “Slide your hand down your body.” Mark told her, his own hand went to his now hard cock, gently stroking the length. “open your legs for me baby.” Meredith spread her legs, her hand hovering over her mound. “Now what baby?” Meredith said, her body already excited. “I want you to slip your finger into your folds and find your clit.” Mark said, his hand stroking is cock in slow strokes. Meredith followed Marks words, her finger sliding over her clit, Meredith’s breath came out in a gasp at the contact. “Does that feel good baby?” mark asked “Oh yeah.” Meredith replied, “Circle your clit.” mark said. With her hands following Mark’s instructions, Meredith’s orgasm started to build, and Mark’s motions became shorter and faster as Meredith’s moans filled the phone. He could see her in his mind, laying on the bed, legs spread touching herself. The thought alone also made Mark cum. “Mark I need you.” Meredith said, her voice thick with passion. “I need you here to fuck me, I need you fill my pussy and fuck me.” “Hmm baby, I bet you are wet, and hot aren’t you?” Mark asked. “All for you baby.” Meredith replied. With short breaths, they brought themselves to orgasms. Laying there alone, hundreds of miles away. They rolled over, and cradled their phones. “I miss you Mark.” Meredith said, her breathing slowly returning to normal. “I miss you too baby. I’ll be home soon.” Mark said wishing the pillow he held in his arms was Meredith’s soft body. “get some sleep.” “Okay.” was Meredith’s sleepy reply. Her eyes drifted closed, with her thoughts on a trip to surprise the man that she was falling for. It was several days later when Meredith walked into the Nest, looking for Alex. “Alex! Hey, good I’m glad you are here.” Meredith said breathless. “Hey cous, what’s up?” Alex asked her. He took in her flushed face and sparkling eyes. “Can you look after the rentals for a couple days?” Meredith asked him, her eyes were hopeful. “Sure.” Alex said slowly “Why?” “I am taking the boat to Miami, and then hopping on a plane to New York.” Meredith explained. She shifted and looked into Alex’s eyes. “Please?” “Okay. You know I can’t take the face.” Alex replied looking away. Meredith hugged him laughing. “I know why do you think I did it?” Meredith told him still laughing. “I need to go if I am going to make it to Miami in time for my plane.” “Why don’t you take my car?” Alex asked. Meredith just shook her head. “No it’s faster to take the boat, its April Alex. 95 is clogged with college students coming to Key West for spring break.” Meredith said, already heading for the door. “Be CAREFUL! HAVE FUN.” Alex yelled as Meredith danced out the door. Meredith smiled to herself and walked down Duval Street to the dock and boarded the Key. She set sail in the warm afternoon sun, and made it to Miami before dark. She docked the boat, and when she got to the marina office the manager came out to greet her. “Bailey!” Meredith greeted the small black woman hugging her. “Meredith, good you are here, your car will be here in just a minute, you are on the private plane that your father left for you.” Bailey said returning Meredith’s hug. “Thank you so much, for helping me out Bailey.” Meredith said as she put her arm around the shorter woman’s shoulders as they walked out to the parking lot to wait for the car. “No problem. Now you be careful up there.” Bailey said. Meredith nodded and her face broke out into a smile as the car pulled into the lot, softly pulling to a stop in front of Meredith. She hugged Bailey again and climbed in the car and waved goodbye at her father’s old assistant. Soon Meredith stepped off the plane in New York and she walked quickly to the car rental counter to pick up her car. She confidently navigated through the New York City traffic and was pulling up to the Hotel when her phone starting ringing. “Hey baby. How was the trip to New York?” Meredith spoke into the phone, as she moved into the hotel, bag in hand. She nodded at the concierge as she passed; already knowing which room Mark was in. “It was good. I am just ready to come home. We have this demo on Friday, then the races on Saturday and Sunday. Then we are supposed to have a couple days off, then on Wednesday we have another demo, then we can come home.” Mark said the weariness evident in his voice. Meredith smiled, covering the phone when the elevator arrived on his floor. “Sounds like a long week Mark. You better get some rest on your day off.” Meredith told him as she walked down the hall to his room. She muted the phone and knocked on the door. “Hang on baby, someone’s at the door.” Mark said as he rolled off the bed and went to the door. She closed her phone when she heard him unchain the door. Mark yanked the door open, phone still to his ear. Utter shock crossed his face when he saw Meredith standing in front of him. He dropped the phone and pulled her into his arms. Meredith dropped her bag snuggled into Mark’s arms. Mark pulled back and cupped Meredith’s face with his hands, lowering his head, his lips swept over hers in a light touch. Meredith’s hands ran up his chest and cupped the back of his head, pulling him back to her mouth. She kissed the corner of his mouth, and her tongue gently crossed his lower lip. Their mouths opened to each other and their tongues met in a graceful, passionate dance, of slick warmth. When the need for oxygen became too much and Meredith pulled back, Mark kissed her for head, pulling her into his arms again. “Maybe we should move out of the doorway.” Meredith said softly, not wanting to leave his arms even for a minute. Mark laughed, and tucked Meredith to his side, his arm protectively around her shoulders. He pushed the door shut with his other hand and walked them into the room, sitting down on the couch. Meredith climbed into his lap, content to just let him hold her. Mark breathed Meredith in, his arms circling around her, securing her to his chest. “How bad was it?” Mark asked after several minutes. Meredith drew in a deep breath before starting. Her eyes glazed over remembering the second worse phone call she ever had to make. flashback. Meredith was sitting on her deck, watching the sunset. A full glass of wine next to her, and her phone in her hand. When her phone buzzed, the movement startled Meredith, she flipped it open smiling when she saw she had a text message. just call her Meredith took a deep breath and dialed. She closed her eyes as Helen picked up. “Hello.” Helen’s voice floated over the phone. “Helen, its Meredith.” Meredith said, trying to keep her voice steady. “Meredith, how are you doing darling?” Helen asked. “I’m okay. Helen I need to tell you something. And it’s not easy.” Meredith said, just wanting to get the call over with. “Okay what is it Meredith?” Helen said, knowing nothing can be as bad as the last time Meredith said those words. “Helen. I am going to ask that you just listen until I am done.” Taking Helen’s silence as an okay, “I found out the day after Derek died, that he had been cheating on me, I found… pictures in his office. And they were recent. Her name is Addison and two days ago she came into the bar, looking for Mark, her ex-boyfriend. She’s pregnant, Helen and the baby is Derek’s.” “He cheated on you? He got another woman pregnant?” Helen asked her voice cracking. “I’m sorry Helen. I didn’t want you to know he cheated, I was going to never tell you, but then when I found out that Addison is pregnant with his child, I knew I needed to call you and tell you.” Meredith said, her heart breaking for the women who had taken her into her family with open arms. “It’s not your fault Meredith. How do you know Mark?” Helen questioned. “Mark was the EMT who tried to save Derek.” Meredith said. “Oh, Meredith, I don’t know what to say. I am a little sad that my son cheated on you. But I am happy that woman is having a baby, it’s like I have a piece of Derek back. “ Helen stated, joy was clear even over the phone. “I need to go.” Meredith said her eyes filling with tears. “Okay dear, well when you see her again, tell her to call me, I can’t wait to see my grandchild.” Helen said. End flashback. Mark could feel Meredith’s shoulders shaking with tears. He rubbed her back trying to give her some comfort. “Meredith,” Mark started. Meredith looked up at Mark, the tears shining on her cheeks. “I’m not crying because he cheated on me, or even that Addison is pregnant. I’m upset because Helen didn’t seem to care; that he cheated only that she was getting a piece of Derek back. I was her daughter too, she told me that the day we got married, and it just hurts that she seemed to care less about my feelings.” Meredith said. Mark nodded and wiped away her tears. He kissed her gently. “Let’s just sit now. I need to hold you, as much as you need to hold me.” Mark said, his hands brining Meredith’s mouth up to his. After a heart breakingly sweet kiss, Meredith laid her head on Mark’s chest, and just listened to his heart beat, Mark laid his head on Meredith’s and breathed her in. |

When Meredith woke up, she sat up and saw it was still dark outside, but with a quick glance around the room, saw that Mark was already gone. Meredith slipped out of bed, and saw that Mark had not only carried her to bed, but took off her clothes. Smiling Meredith padded into the bathroom. After a quick shower, she got dressed for the day. Meredith was getting her bag to call Mark when she saw a note on the pillow next to where she was. My dearest Meredith, You were too beautiful to wake up. I’m down at the marina. We are leaving at 7am if you want to come with us. Mark Meredith smiled as she tucked the note into her back pocket. She checked her watch and grabbed her bag, hurrying out of the room. It was just dawning when Meredith pulled up to the marina and parked. She walked down to the dock with three cups of coffee. She saw Mark and Cristina standing next to their rescue boat. “Mark!” Meredith called. Mark looked up and saw Meredith coming towards them, his face breaking out in a huge smile. He met her half way down the dock, he took Meredith’s hand and together they joined Cristina. “Hey Cris.” Meredith greeted the other woman. “I brought you a mocha latte, and Mark here is a bone dry cappuccino.” Mark handed Cristina her coffee as Meredith was talking, he took the drink carrier out her hands, setting it on the ground. Once both their hands were free, Mark gathered Meredith into his arms; he gave her a deep lingering kiss. “Morning.” Mark whispered holding Meredith to him. “Good morning lover.” Meredith said her breath warm on Mark’s ear. Mark’s lips brushed Meredith’s again, they both wanted more than just the kiss. “When are you going to be done here?” “Around noon.” Cristina answered. “Good coffee, thanks.” She turned smiling from the couple. “You know we have a cabin on the boat right? I need to run to… I have an errand to run.” Cristina quickly walked away leaving Mark and Meredith staring at each other. Mark smiled and took Meredith’s hand, helping her onto the boat. He took her into the small cabin. There was not a door in a traditional sense, just a set of small swinging doors. Meredith smiled and reached for Mark. He went to her, crushing her to his chest. Their mouths grazed over each other. Mark picked Meredith up in his arms, his hands under her ass. Meredith wrapped her legs around Mark’s waist, he turned and pinned Meredith cabin wall. His hands were under Meredith’s shirt in seconds, massaging her breasts through her bra. Meredith worked on Mark’s belt buckle, their mouths seared together in passion. He put her down and quickly their pants where on the floor followed shortly by their underwear. Mark kissed Meredith again, his hand traveled from her hip between her legs, he felt her wet het and smiled. “What?” Meredith asked her voice uneven as Mark stroked her. “You. Everything about you turns me on baby.” Mark answered kissing Meredith again. When he pulled back he turned Meredith around, her palms resting on the wall with her back arched, Mark quickly slid into Meredith, filling her completely, Meredith bit her lip as Mark pulled out, till just the tip of his cock was inside of her, and then he pushed back in again. Mark’s hands gripped Meredith’s hips as they moved together; it was hot, and passionate. She was close to coming when Mark’s arm slid around her and his fingers found her clit again, then with Mark’s touch, Meredith cried out as her orgasm washed over, Mark’s just behind hers. Standing still connected, their breathing evened out. When Cristina came back to the boat twenty minutes later she found Mark and Meredith curled up on one of the seats. “Hey, look who I found wandering up at the parking lot.” Cristina said. Mark looked up and smiled “Hey I didn’t know you two were coming.” Mark said, he stood up pulling Meredith with him. They walked to meet the two men who had accompanied Cristina back. “Meredith this is Luke O’Conner and Jamie Ryan. Guys this is her.” Luke ![]() Jamie ![]() “It’s nice to meet you Meredith.” Jamie said putting out his hand. Meredith took it and then turned to Mark. “Her? Do you talk about me?” Meredith asked joy etched across her face. “All the time.” Luke answered for Mark. He took Meredith’s hand and griped it in his. Mark watched for minute, when Jamie didn’t let go, he stepped onto the dock and turned for Meredith, he swept her into his arms and kissed her on the forehead. “Find your own girl.” Mark growled looking at his two oldest friends. Meredith smiled as Mark put her down. They stayed on the dock talking and when it was time for the rescue boats to go out for the demonstration Meredith walked back up the dock surprised to see Addison standing there. “You don’t give up do you?” Meredith asked, crossing her arms over her chest. She didn’t want to hate her, but the anger was building up in Meredith. “I wanted to tell Mark the baby wasn’t his, it is Derek’s. I’m sorry Meredith.” Addison told her. “I don’t want your apologies Addison, you slept with my husband, and he knocked you up. You can’t undo it.” Meredith started to go around her when Addison stopped her with words. “He was going to leave you. I was going to break up with Mark, and Derek was going to leave you. We were going to get married, be happy, then he died, and I found out I was pregnant.” Addison said, wanting to hurt Meredith. Meredith turned to Addison, her eyes glittering with untold anger. “You are a piece of work. Derek is dead okay. When he died he was my husband. I just don’t’ get it Addison, Mark is a great guy and a sure as hell a better lover than Derek. So what exactly do you hope to gain? Are you trying to piss me off? You show up at MY house the day after MY husband died, and then you came to MY bar and told me you were pregnant with either MY boyfriend’s baby or MY DEAD HUSBAND’S.” Meredith said her voice low and controlled. “I want what Derek would have given me, a house, money to take care of the baby.” Addison said lifting her chin. “Good luck Addison, take me to court because you know what? The house, Derek’s business, his boat, I bought them all.” Meredith told her. “What? But he said he was rich.” Addison stammered. “No, my dad was in the hotel business, and made damn good money, I am the one with all the money.” Meredith said, her arms crossed to keep from hitting Addison. “I can’t raise this baby, I don’t have a job.” Addison said, the tears flowing down her face. “Not my problem.” Meredith said, she started to walk by Addison then stopped. She pulled out a piece of paper and wrote something down. “That’s Derek’s mother’s phone number; she wanted to talk to you.” Meredith turned her back and walked down the sidewalk. Meredith was still wandering the streets of lower Manhattan when her phone rang. “Hello.” Meredith said into the phone, hoping it was Mark saying he was back. “Meredith, its Helen.” “Yes.” Meredith said not wanting to talk to Derek’s mother. “First thank you for giving Addison my number, you had no right to yell at her Meredith. Second you know that Derek did make money while you two were married. Now I expect you to sell the house and Derek’s Rental business, and give the money to Addison.” Helen stated. Meredith saw red “No you listen Helen. Your precious son cheated ON ME. He FUCKED ADDISON WHILE WE WERE MARRIED. I bought the house, and Rockstar rentals, but I don’t have to give Addison shit. She is a whore, just like your son. But I will tell you what because I am better person than you Helen. I will sell the house, it reminds me of Derek. But after this I WANT NOTHING ELSE TO DO WITH YOU. AND YOU TELL YOU WONDERFUL ADDISON TO LEAVE KEY WEST, MARK AND ME ALONE.” Meredith said into the phone, now furious with her former mother-in-law. “Meredith.” Helen started “No. I’m done Helen. Either she takes the sale from the house and leaves Key West. She never talks to me or Mark again or she gets shit. And I am being as nice as I am going to be.” Meredith said she was now standing in the marina parking lot. “What’s it going to be?” “Fine, but Meredith.” Helen began “She’ll have the money by end of business day. Tell her to meet me at New York Bank and Trust at 5pm.” Meredith closed her phone. She dropped it in her bag. She stood leaning against the railing for a while. She made several calls arranging the sale of her house, and buying a new one. She had just hung up with her lawyer when, “Meredith.” Meredith looked up and saw Loftin walking towards her. “I’m not her to tell you to give Addison a chance, or even my mom. “ (*A/N FYI this is Loftin*) ![]() Meredith looked at Loftin, her anger slipping away. She looked down and drew in a big breath. “I know I stopped calling you back Mer, and I was wrong for that. It, it just, hurt.” Loftin said. Meredith looked up and gave her a small smile. “I know.” Meredith said simply. Loftin walked to Meredith and hugged her. Meredith returned the embrace. “So the whore’s pregnant huh?” Loftin asked. “Yeah, she came to the Nest, and told me. Then came here again looking for Mark and told me it was Derek’s, that he had planned on leaving me, and she wanted a house and money. And I lost it.” Meredith said. “Well my mother had it coming; when she told me Addison was pregnant I started looking for a plane ticket to Miami. Then mom called and told me that you were in New York. Meredith I am sorry.” Loftin said, looking at her best friend. “I know you are Loftin. And the house thing, I had been thinking about selling the house anyway, when we moved to Key West, I wanted one on the water, Derek wanted one on the beach. The house I wanted is available. My lawyer already had a buyer ready for my house. By the time I get home the movers will already have moved my stuff.” Meredith told her. “I love how you don’t waste time.” Loftin said laughing. “I had already talked about, and my lawyer knows me well enough to know I talk about something, I am serious. So he already had the ball rolling, we just pushed it along faster. It helps when I have the money and don’t have to pay a mortgage.” Meredith said, laughing with her. “So you do you have pictures of the house?” Loftin asked. Nodding Meredith pulled out her phone ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() “Very nice!” Loftin exclaimed. Meredith nodded, she looked up when heard the boats idling. She smiled at Loftin. “Do you want to meet my boyfriend?” Meredith asked her. Nodding Loftin let Meredith pull her down the dock. By the time Meredith and Loftin reached the boats, Mark was climbing out. He gathered Meredith to him, and just held her. Loftin watched as the last of the anger and resentment seeped from Meredith. She watched as her best friend kissed Mark, their eyes locked on each other. “Mark this is Loftin, Loftin this is Mark.” Meredith introduced them; Mark held out his hand, his other arm held Meredith to his side. “It’s nice to meet you Loftin.” Mark said. “You too Mark.” Loftin said as she smiled at Meredith. But Meredith and Mark were lost in each other again. |
