Remember folks, the best part of waking up isn't Folger's in your cup. It's knowing Chuck Norris didn't kill you in your sleep.![]()

I don't understand why there's so many "stupid" votes. I've never understood why the Taurus has always had such a bad rep. Sure, the baseline Tauruses are "granny cars" but majority of them will compete with any other baseline car. Ever heard of a Taurus SHO? Race one, see what happens. This new Police vehicle we have here is not just a Taurus, it's a TWIN TURBO'd Taurus SHO. Ford has been rumoring about the new SHO taking the place of the Crown Vic for quite awhile now. The 2010 AWD SHO puts out 350 hp at the wheels and is a blast to drive, I drove two in the summer of '09 before they were available for purchase. The SHO is FAR from a granny car, and not just the 2010. The SHO when introduced in 1989 was the best performance sedan on the market primarily dominated by BMW. It sucks Ford had to stick the engine in the Taurus body, the Yamaha SHO engine was and still is one of the most exotic and solid motors out there. Ford had originally planned to put the motor in their mid-engine sports car, the GN34 (this car would have been SICK, google it), they designed to compete with Pontiac Fieros, but at the last second the plug was pulled on the project. Ford already had the contract with Yamaha and quickly threw them in the Taurus, their best selling car and the car that saved the entire company. The result was awesome Fast forward to today. The Taurus is still one of Ford's best selling cars (let's ignore '06-'08 when they ruined the car, realized it, and brought it back). The Crown Vic has been unchanged for NINE years and been the leading law enforcement vehicle, that's a hell of a run and proves they were obviously doing something right. The time has come to upgrade the Crown Vic once again. It is horribly underpowered, which is really the biggest issue with it - there will be future issues in the near future regarding ridiculous Federal government safety regulations though. I think Ford should have updated it, specifically with a modern power plant (TT EcoBoost). The new Taurus is HUGE (bigger than the Crown Vic now), I personally think the Fusion should be the Taurus and the Taurus should be the Crown Vic; but that's what cars do - they grow larger. When you look at the competition it makes sense for Ford though. Looking at the other available performance sedans you have the Charger and the Impala, and sure there are others being used (regular Tauruses, Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros, etc). The Charger has the power but not the handling, plus it's on the small side for hauling criminals. The Impala is a joke, slow and can't handle - but hey it's cheap. By the way, GM announced a year or so ago the Impala is done as far as law enforcement goes. It is being replaced by a RWD Caprice that will only be available to law enforcement municipalities, no individual public buyers. I've seen a few pictures and it will look just like the current Impala. It only makes sense for Ford to make the move to the TT SHO. The CVPI just won't meet stricter crash standards coming in the future, doesn't leave enough room to package all of the new features on today's cars and is too heavy to pass EPA mandates. If you know anything about the 2010 SHO you know its features and what it's capable of, but the Police version is going to be even better... Upgraded brakes with all new calipers and larger rotors with 60% more swept area Police tuned 365+hp/350+ft-lb EcoBoost Police tuned Stability Control for pursuit maneuvers Greatly increased cooling pack HD suspension tested to run over an 8" curb @ 40mph! Ford Exclusive rear crash test rated up to 75 mph! Onto some pictures! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Another good move by Ford, the company that didn't take YOUR money. ![]()

Cool! Here in Dallas, Texas, all you see are queen victorias and occasionally a few chargers. |
