![]() ![]() This lovely boy is Finlay - his photos do him no justice, he is an extremely handsome friendly boy. He is 2 and entire and an absolute bundle of energy, fun and affection. He is being re-homed due to a relationship breakup and the husband can sadly only keep his Labrador. I met Finlay today and he is a very big boy, probably a 40k dog, he was very pleased to see me without being fussy and he was perfectly happy for me to handle him and check him over. He is extremely playful and very much a teenager who loves playing with his Lab mate. Being a teen and a big boy at that, Finlay can cause problems when on walks with other dogs, anyone used to young GSD males shouldn't be put off - he runs up or gives chase before tipping the dog over and having a grizzle. He does leave the dog when called and has never done a dog any harm, his owners had never had a GSD and were shocked when this started to develop and so kept him on muzzled lead walks or away from other dogs. He gets on fine with the owners other dog and they have assured me that once he gets to know a dog he gets on well and just wants to play. To be honest he sounds just like my boy as a youth! There was no fuss whatsoever when a neighbours dog started to bark, he just looked interested for a bit and carried on playing. He has never been around cats, he is a country boy and has never caused any problems with livestock, he has been around a couple of children over the age of 6 but not not much. He currently has 2 half hour walks a day but could definitely do with more. His basic training isn't too bad but not great - he can sit, stay and wait. He is terrible on a lead but will walk to heal off lead and is very good in the house. He was destructive as a pup and needed lots of chews but then his owners both worked full time - he is no longer destructive but still loves his chews and is a big fan of digging in the garden! I absolutely love this boy, he is a really friendly chap who needs a loving and firm hand, maybe in a home with another dog. We don't want him to go to a home with children or a home with cats because he is a very big boy and can be quite boisterous. I'm afraid we'll also only consider potential owners with specific breed experience, preferably with males. Please don't be put off by his honest review - he is an absolute pleasure to be around and a seasoned GSD owner will hopefully understand where I'm coming from with the teen dog aggression! Anyone interested please pm me or call 07799 062761. Finlay lives in Dorset. |

I hope I haven't put anyone off replying because of the dog aggression. I'm going to take Finlay out for a walk tommorow and see how he gets on - so should have some more news. Happy to answer any questions! |

I think people may take more than 12 hours overnight to reply even to such a good looking boy. Im only put off of replying by the fact if I had another dog I would lose my husband. If I was on my own I would have him in a heartbeat, I cant think of a better place for him than the beach here where dogs can be dogs and there are few people that are funny about dogs that maybe arent quite perfect whilst he is trained. |

Impatient Moi? I guess I'm just worrying about putting anyone off - I just want to be honest, but he really is a great dog. Full of life and smiles, his owners have always had Labs and a full on teen GSD came as a shock - as they can if you're not used to it. Anyway fingers crossed..... |

Is there a dead line on the point where he needs to be rehomed? I wish I could at least foster, but there is no point in even arguing for it with my husband as he is entire and Edenn is mid way into a season, and then Morgan is 5 months since hers, so will be coming in at any time. Did you manage to get a walk with him? |

Hi no walk yet as we've been busy with other dogs. I've contacted a lady who specialises in rescuing whites and also a breeder who often helps re-home whites. Everybody is full! I too have a bitch who is due into her first season at any time soon plus my big lad Rufus who probably won't take kindly to a youngster who is very full of himself with all the right tackle still in place - hence I won't risk a foster either. Finlay's owner is being patient and understands that a few of us are doing our best to find the right home or foster place and so things are urgent but not yet desperate. Thanks for looking though and keeping Finlay in mind, it is very much appreciated and if you come up with a good idea in the meantime then brilliant. Regards, Lisa |

Dear All, I'd forgotten how bad this time of year is for re-homing! I'm getting nowhere with lovely Finlay and he really needs somewhere soon - if any rescues can offer help I will happily do whatever legwork I can do! Many thanks, Lisa |

Good Luck Finlay, be a really good boy. Where in the country are the new owners from? Are they experienced owners and likely to be able to get him a better life than being muzzled on a lead? |
