We've taken Sheba in from another rescue. This is what they had to say about her: "18 months old black and tan short coat bitch not known if spayed. Quite lively, jumps up, friendly but will bark at the other dogs in the kennels." We've found she loves human company but is prone to get over excited when she meets other dogs. We think this is due to a lack of socialising in the past. We introduced her to a couple of dogs in the large run at Treetops and she was a bit naughty to start off with, but then, having been told off by the other dogs, she settled and was well behaved. We believe that with a few more carefully controlled socialising sessions, she will learn to get on better with her own species! Louise and I took this lovely, but very strong, girlie for a walk today. I can safely say she passed her 'baby' testing. She bounded up to Louise, sniffed her and gave her a kiss then trotted along side us (actually that's not entirely accurate) she actually pulls like a train and will definitely need some serious lead training. She was no trouble, bikes passed us and other walkers (male and female). We had the pushchair and another family passed us with a pushchair and canoeists came past and other than a mild curiosity, she was more bemused than anything with the outside world. Boundless energy ... absolutely, I get the impression that she REALLY wants to play and socialise with other dogs but isn't quite sure what the protocol is so I agree that careful socialisation with sensible dogs will certainly teach her the right way to approach and interact with other dogs. I also think that once she knows you, she'll absolutely love you but as I only met and walked her today for the first time ever, she didn't really pay me much attention, even when we stopped and sat and tried to make a fuss of her - she was more interested in what else was going on in the world. Certainly a fun and rewarding dog to take on and very sweet, wouldn't put it past someone to attempt agility with her (and me for that matter - as she managed to hurdle a bush and almost take me for a swim in the river!) Thankfully no cameras around!!! |

Sheba had some strong interest yesterday. They will be coming back with their own dog next week to see how they get on. While they were viewing her I brought Magic in to show how she is with dogs (Magic is a very good 'stooge' dog - doesn't take offence if another dog has bad manners!) At first she was over excited and looked quite aggressive but within minutes they were the best of pals and had a bit of a play together. I think she has just lacked socialising with other dogs and will get over her initial fears very easily. |

My Suki had the job of being one of the first 'stooge' dogs to introduce Sheba to the world of manners. She thinks that if she nips their bums then they will play with her. Of course there is no way she was going to get away with that! So it only took two tellings of from Suki to get the picture. After that she was as good as gold, but Suki still wouldnt play with her, she doesnt do play it is beneath her! but Sheba did whine when we took Suki out of the run. |

Sheba is still in kennels waiting. Dont be fooled by her size though, she maybe small and cute, but she is very strong/strong-willed
