April is currently is foster with me under German Shepherd Dog Rescue. She is a beautiful deep brown/black/tan sable girl and is looking for her forever home.

The history we know about her is that firstly she came into the hands of a pound picked up as an emaciated stray. April had hardly any fur due to a flea allergy. She was nursed back to health and was found a home, sadly April never got on with the resident bitch and so found herself back in the pound. April then came into the hands of GSD Rescue and was taken into kennels. April was only in the kennels one day and was found a home, but she had an accident :*****: on the kitchen floor during the night, and the new owner gave her away to someone local  This home lasted a few days because April had a fight with the new owners 8 stone American Bull Dog over a ball. So she ended up back in rescue.

April has been in foster with me for 8 weeks. She was very bewildered at first, not surprising how many kennels/homes she had had within one week. She took about a fortnight to bond with me, but now gets so excited to see me and loves her walks.

April loves to play ball but you will always need two as she is very possessive over the ball, and will give a little growl if you try to take it off her. Take two balls with you and she will drop the ball and await eagerly for you to throw the other. She will tend to rag the lead a little at first through shear excitement of going on a walk. Her recall is very good and she will sit for you. Quite strong on the lead.

We are not sure how April will be with children as she has not been with any whilst in foster so a home without young children preferred. She has chased the resident cats whilst in foster and also will chase birds when on a walk (probably due to being a stray and having to fend for herself). So a home without cats or small furries. April does tend to get a little stressed when travelling and will sometimes bark but is not sick, but I am confident she will overcome this with regular trips out in a vehicle.

April has been returned to rescue twice as mentioned due to not getting on with a bitch and the dog, she does like to be top dog. April did have visitors who brought their GSD boy with them and there was a couple of minor spats, but she ran around for a good while with the boy with no problems. (The family did not take her because they had a 15 week old kitten and they needed a dog that got on with cats). So we feel a home may be OK with a male dog and that someone is prepared to introduce and socialise her carefully. Or a home where April is the only dog would be ideal. An owner that understands the breed and will show her boundaries in a fair manner.

April is not food aggressive (she loves her food), Is house trained. She does occasionally pull the stuffing out of her bed and will dive on the sofa if you let her, but otherwise has not been destructive or an excessive barker.

I must admit I love this spirited girl, and I would love to see her in her forever home after what she has been through, with a warm fire on cold nights and a hearth rug to curl up on.

If you are interested in April, you can apply to adopt her via www.germanshepherdrescue.co.uk and fill in the adoption form. All potential adoptors would have to be home checked and rescue adoption fee applies. Please feel free to PM me for enquiries.

Here is a few more piccies of the beautiful April. love2
