2 days in rescue can be a long time

Rex is a stunning 5 year old German Shepherd dog. He has been in private boarding kennels for a rescue since February and is not fairing well of late. He is such a friendly and people orientated dog that he is finding it really hard being in kennels for such a long time so therefore he urgently needs a foster home, whilst his forever home is being found.

Rex is good with dogs but not good with cats. He is housetrained and loves the car. His ideal foster or forever home will have previous experience with German Shepherds and live within the South East of England. He would be happy as the only dog or with a female friend for company.

Rex is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

If you think that you might be able to help, even if it is just for a month, . He is such a loving boy and it is destroying his soul to not be able to show his affection on a regular basis. I hope somebody out there can help him.

From Bev a previous fosterer.

I feel like I've struck gold with my first attempt at fostering. Rex is a diamond and brill with kids. Next door's children (pictures to follow if Julie can help) who are 6 and 8 have been cuddling him and playing with him all afternoon. He is so clean and doesn't want to pooh in the garden. I can't fault him at all and he is the easy option dog that I always wanted. I keep pinching myself.

However, my minx Elsa is only tolerating him and he hasn't put a paw wrong. She wants an entire male and is sulking. He tries and tries to ingriatiate himself with her but she's having none of it.

Words fail me as to how good this dog is. I wish that I'd had him first before Elsa. Seriously folks, if there is anyone out there who wants a GSD but is nervous (like me) that they can cope, then this is the boy. He loves people, is fine with other dogs and is the friendliest GSD that I have yet to meet. I'll continue to foster him in conditions that he so appreciates until someone with children wants a bomb-proof dog. Please remember that this star's only vice is that he hates cats.

Julie, in the meantime, please keep looking for an entire male. My Elsa prefers 'a bit of rough' and Rex is too nice. She almost played with him today but decided against it. Incidentally Elsa and I are attending an excellent training class in Sedlescombe, East Sussex and we went this morning. I have to say that there were Vigil and others dogs there with serious behavioural issues. Rex doesn't need to go to these and I am amazed that he is so easy.

I want to keep him but Elsa is the resident dog and she only wants to live with an entire male. I despair sometimes about 'difficult females' like her, but love her to bits of course and have to coincide that she comes first. Anyway this boy is doing so well, no credit to me, he just needed to be out of kennels. Finally, he craves affection and has so much love to give the right family.

Hi auzzy,

I, too, was interested in Rex but understand he does not like cats at all. As I have an elderly stray who decided to live with us (didn't ask just assumed) Rex was a "no goer". So, if you have a cat or cats, don't think you will be successful. Good luck anyway cause he looks a lovely boy - can't understand why he hasn't been snapped up! :gsd paw:

Have just spoken to Rexs fosterers and all is going well, Rex and his dad do a 3 mile jog every day, they have said that he is a easier dog to handle than I had told them when they first met him. ,So it looks hopefully that he may have found his forever home. :fingers crossed:
