Rhanni is 8 years old, and is in foster with Karen (crazydiamond). Poor Rhanni is all skin and bones and has a problem with her ear. Karen will post more on the condition of this dog. Here is Rhanni

Poor Rhanni indeed :cryingtissues:

She has a gentle, mostly sweet temperment with occasional grumpy moments, knows how to deal with Winston and is in dire need of love, food, grooming and medical attention. I find it hard to believe that any vet would say Rhanni was ok.

Her coat although not matted is layers deep in undercoat, she is tufty ~ in most areas she flinches and winces when you gently tease a little out, then gives you a kiss. This is because in some areas she has very red skin, some areas normal pink skin but this may or may not be flaky or dusty, some areas are a little red and flaky and randomly there are small yellowish scales either on her skin or in the undercoat near the skin. Her nails are quiet long, less so on the hinds and she has broken the dew claw on her left foreleg. Her breath is vile and is noticable throughout the house, there is alot of plaque on her molars, I wouldnt be surprised if she has gum disease ~ she certainly requires a dental. Her soft left ear also requires attention, has an odour which is not nice and inside the ear where the ear folds looks angry and sore, other areas are hardened in this ear also. The right ear doesnt smell so bad and is in much better condition. Last night she was shaking her head and scratching at it so much. Seems though that when she is up and about it doesnt bother her so much.

Rhanni is skin and bone, total muscle wastage, so we are feeding her up ~ will be making her scrambled egg about 11 and off to town later to get some chicken wings & breast of lamb for her. I cannot treat her for fleas presently as her skin is not good and there is so much fur. I suspect worming is required too. Being so underweight will mean that a dental could not be carried out as there is nothing of her much more than fur.

Rhanni is a pretty girl.

:OMG: The poor girl :cryingtissues:

She sounds in such bad shape, I really don't think these dogs were looked after at all-its so sad. Luckily Keeley doesn't seem as bad as poor Rhanni-although her ears are filthy-but no bad smells. but she too is just skin and bone.
It doesn't take much much to care for a dog does it? How people can let their dogs get into such a bad way is unbelievable.

I have spoken to ex owner this morning he says that Rhanni had an operation on her ear when she was owned by a previous person to him. I am trying to contact the PDSA in Wolverhampton but lines constantly engaged, will keep trying

Thanks Carol ~ any medical history on these girls will prove useful. I have been using (very gently) a shedding tool for a few mins a time which is loosening the fur a bit and getting some out in a way Rhanni can tolerate. I have been wiping her down with baby wipes to clean her up a little and improve her aroma, she already looks better.

I have fluff all round my lounge, hall and garden due to an investigative puppy sticking his head into the bag with the fur in, trying to kill the fur, then thinking the bag had attacked him so ran off with bag in tow all round the house and garden in a mild state of panic as the orange rustly thing chased him round, eventually he listened to me asking him to sit and I released him from the grasp of the beast, I was slathered by kisses and beaten by his tail. So funny.

Karen, thats so funny about the puppy and the bag of fur, can just imagine him :rotflmao:

Have managed to get through to the PDSA, they do have info on Rhanni but won't release it until ex owner goes to their clinic and signs a form saying that he has signed her over to us. I have contacted him and he's going to do this today, hopefully, so will let you know as soon as I get the vets report. Have asked him to fill in a form for Keeley as well, although he's not sure if she ever visited the PDSA or not :swoon:

How is Rhanni doing? i do keep thinking about the poor thing. Keeley is coming on leaps and bounds.
Carol-are Keeley and Rhanni related at all? As they both have the same soft left ear?
And any info on her past history would be brilliant xxx

Rhanni only weighs 20.4 kg so she is underweight. She had her vax yesterday and she now needs a dental which will cost up to £250. Karen is feeding her several small meals a day to get her built up, she is in very good hands.

Emma..Rhanni and Keeley are not related...I have been in touch with the PDSA to try and get info on the dogs...what a palaver that was...had to get ex owner to go into their clinic to sign paperwork to say that he had relinquished the dogs. Then the paperwork has to be sent to head office. Head office then send vets report to ex owner who then send it on to me...but if your vet calls them they will answer the questions...so if you need their number I'll e-mail to you.

Poor Rhanni-at least she is in very good hands now. I'm sure she'll feeling like a new dog in no time at all. :thumbs up: Looking forward to seeing pics of the new Rhanni!

Carol-That would be great if you could email me the number-than when I can give it to the vet when I take her next week-letting her settle in before I haul her off the vets!
What palaver that was for you-don't make these things simple do they? Thank you for doing that.

I am not prepared to put up pics of Rhanni until I have at least got her coat sorted out and put on a little weight. Although I have managed to give Rhanni an overall groom (except her neck & chest area as very sensitive) and had already got a lounge and garden full of fur from her I spent 2 hrs last night carefully teasing all the extra fluff out of her on one thigh obtaining another carrier bag full  more sore areas have come to light doing this. Ive been spraying her with grooming stuff to make it easier for her and if she is at rest its easiest to groom her.

Rhanni is on a feed schedule of 6 meals a day made up of complete dry, raw tripe, breast of lamb, white fish, scambled eggs, porridge made with oats and puppy formula, fruit & veg.

I took Rhanni out with Byron yesterday evening to the local park, I decided not to let her off so had her on a 12ft line. I am glad I did as she was very spooked by a couple of cyclists and wouldve ran off. She pulls when on the lead so I am using a harness on her altough the halti harness I have is a tad to big presently and the Walkezee I have wont fit once she starts to gain weight, so must be time I bought another harness for my kit.

Rhannis soft left ear has been caused by infection, operation, more infection. Both her ears are infected now. I am in the process of carefully cleaning her ears so that I can use the Surolan the vet prescribed, there is little point putting them in her ears as they are.

Karen is doing a great job with Rhanni :thumbs up:

I spoke to Rhanni's vet today, and he said that her teeth are not in a bad state but she has a growth coming from one tooth that is causing a problem and infecting her mouth. This needs to be sorted and she is being booked in to have a dental next week. He dosen't know if and how many teeth may have to be extracted because she wasn't to keen to let him look in her mouth. Apart from that the vet said she was in good health apart from being a bit underweight and he was prepared to put her under sedation.

Rhanni was put up originally as a 10 year old, but in fact she is only 8, this girl would love a nice retirement home...

Rhanni is a very gentle girl. She has settled here fine and her coat looks a 100 times better after much gentle grooming though not yet all done. I am sure in a couple of weeks there will a different looking dog. When we take her out it is with a I Need A Home coat on. We have still not let her off led as she is not very responsive so a harness and line for Rhanni presently.
