i don't believe all of them are in that situation. this
was only my opinion and not meant to offend

I am sure no offence was taken shannon after all it is just an opinion which surely we are all entitled to as animal lovers, it is nice to have the reason why it cant be done explained.I hope Vinnie can be helped and find a loving home.
But I still feel that if the other dogs needing homes with no problems should be giving a chance to be homed outside the catchment area they are in. They just might have more of a chance thats all.

Absolutely no offence taken whatsoever :thumbs up:

Having been to see Vinnie (with a view to adopting him at the time) I can see BCDH's point of view where Vinnie's concerned.

We were only 30 minutes drive away and we got turned down because we lived too far away in their opinion. It didn't matter that we were willing to commute back and forth. As it happened, Vinnie wasn't good with cats so that ruled it out for us.

I do agree with both you and Princess that their criteria is far too strict and it's stopping a lot of very nice dogs from getting a good home.

However, therein lies a catch 22. My next door neighbour has a dog adopted from BCDH so they can, and do relax their policy when it suits them.

I'm at work at the moment but will PM you both later.

Or perhaps because your neighbour re-homed a dog that didn't have as many behavioural problems as Vinnie.

our catchment area is Bristol to Swindon. For more difficult dogs or those that have behavioural and health issues the area is Gloucester to Somerset, just because they would need to either come back to our vets or to have a follow-up with the behaviourist here.

Some of the Inspectors and Dog Wardens already home check for us outside our catachment area, but of course people still have to come in and see the animal and fill in a questionnaire to see if they are suitable.

Don't forget that the majority of the dogs I post on are dogs that have behavioural and/or health issues.

If BCDH feel a potential owner is suitable they WILL and DO rehome outside of their catchment area.
