Zak 10 yr old gsd needs a home; Living out his days @ Happy Days kennels

Zak is a 10 year old gsd currently at the happy days kennels in Wales. 6 weeks ago his owners daughter posted on here and various sites that he would be pts at 5pm
if a rescue place was not found. John stepped in when all others refused and saved this boy's life.

Zak has spent all of his life living outside in a shed. He had not been walked, groomed or loved much. His condition on arrival at the kennels was very poor, he was underweight,
had muscle wastage and suffered fear aggression.

Jill (kennel owner) has worked very hard with him and he is improving daily. He may not have a long life ahead but we would like him to experience a loving home and an owner that cares for him in his final years.

Zak will need to live outdoors , as this is all he has known. He will need an experienced owner who is willing to spend the time forming a bond with him. He is not suitable for a home with young children, he can be ok with some dogs, but lacks socialisation skills.
If you are interested in offering this poor boy a home please contact Jill on 01824 750765

Just received from Jill

I have worked hard on him and he is a new dog, small amounts of walking, very nice on lead and then grooming, not keen but puts up with it trys to dodge me when he sees the brush. My little collie Andy has made big friends and Zac trys to play but cant run fast enough. he is o k with my cats on the yard, who dont run and are used to dogs.
He is quiet, will bark if he sees you and wants a fuss, he likes lots of fuss. Very clean in he kennel, would live outside.
It would be great if this old boy could have some love for his last bit of time he has left, he may suprise us and live another couple of years, he has lumps and bumps but nothing we could or should do anything about at this stage in he life.

Please contact Jill if you can offer this old boy some love and care for the rest of his days.

I received this update from Jill

Zac is improving day by day, he is ok to be brushed now and has a very smart shiney coat, he is still eating like a horse, I dont think he was very well fed. He is now friends with two collies, one male one female, and he has become firm friends with a rescue gsd that is so frightened when she came she would attack all other dogs and people! I think he is a bit of a peace maker!
With regards to living in a house, there are people and people, all I can say is now he is always clean in his kennel. He will have a squirt on the wall of the kennel block as he is going out, but he has got his nuts so I would kind of expect that. He always does his real toilet outside while on a walk.
If I didnt have a house full I would try him inside but then if he did toilet it would not be then end of the world for me, he would not be he first or last, he does like to be with you and is quite a quiet dog, settles on his bed in his kennel, but then he is old.
Hope that is of some help, oh by the by he did growl at one of my customers, a very noisy jumpy about kind of person, so he may not like some men, the guy wasnt fazed one bit, used to sheps, and I dont think he sees as well as he did.

Fingers crossed he gets a home soon :GSD:

Hello, Is there any news on Zak yet. I would love to know how he is getting on. For those of you that dont recognise my name i originally posted Zaks information before John rescued him. He was my mothers dog but as they say you cant choose your family. It would be lovely to hear how he is getting on and see any pictures. x

I've just spoken with the lovely Jill who continues to do a fabulous job with Zak :clapping:

Dear Zack is still looking for a forever home. Jill says he's a nice old boy, gradually coming out of his shell and enjoying his time at her place - sharing his kennel with a lady love  being spoilt with great food and treats and enjoying games of chase in the yard :real GSD: All in all, he's having a good dog's life :thumbs up:

I asked Jill if he'd suit an indoor retirement, and she said yes, absolutely, but only with the right people. As per her earlier post, he does still 'squirt' in the kennel block - though he is clean in his kennel - so anyone wanting to take him on would need to consider this factor. He's only known an outdoor life, so a warm, comfy, draught & wind-proof shed or something similar might also suit. BUT he is settled & happy where he is and enjoying his comfy bed and heat lamp.

Anyone wanting to offer Zack a retirement home should contact Jill on 01824 750765

What a lovely update caz, he is so happy with Jill, its such a shame that no one has been interested in rehoming him.

It would so make my year if this boy was rehomed, he truly deserves some spoiling in his final years, especially after the neglect he suffered.

Come on Cilla work abit harder :whip:
