Private Rehomings & Direct From Non-uk Rescues

We have sections on the board for private individuals who wish/need to rehome a dog.
Whilst we take every effort to help as a site with this, the main rescues (also on the board) and also the site itself cannot be held responsible if for some reason the rehoming does not work, the rescues are not under any obligation to take a dog that has been privately rehomed into a rescue, find rescue space or provide any financial support. The same is true for dogs rehomed directly from rescues in Ireland or a pound. CALL for example one of the rescues in the Ireland do not rehome their dogs directly to individuals in the UK, they are normally under agreement with a rescue in the UK and therefore should any problem arise and the dog needs to be removed from the home, there will be a rescue available to handle this.

Even if a homecheck has been arranged or transport to the UK has been paid for via a rescue or a member associated with a rescue, please do not assume that this entitles you to any rescue backup. Rescues will do what they can to help but unless you have agreed in advance with them that they will offer backup please do not expect this.

I once read a complaint on another site about rescues taking donations for dogs that they have had for a short while (hours even) and people think that this is unfair but then ask yourself, what about the dogs that are in the rescues for months the same donation is requested but they may well have cost the rescue hundreds of pounds in food, kenneling, vaccinations, worming, not to mention vet bills?

We can do a lot to help but as with most things these days nothing is free  if you find yourself in a position of having to rehome a dog on this site and you are offered any money from the person that you rehome the dog to, or even not, perhaps you could consider giving a donation to the BIGGSD fund or any of the rescues on the site who will put the money to the best possible use.

Just one more thing...
When you take the dog check that you have its vaccination card and when it was last wormed. If in any doubt of vaccinations or worming please take the dog to your vet and arrange for it to have the necessary injections/tablets. If the dog has a microchip make sure you have the information required to enable you to register yourself as the new owner, again if in doubt take your dog to the vet and if they cannot find a microchip arrange to have the dog microchiped. Sorry if this all sounds like 'common sense' but you would be amazed at the number of dogs we hear about who have upset stomachs for weeks on end but once wormed the problem disappears!
