Mission statement

ANVIL (Animals Need a Voice In Legislation) Ireland was established to ensure proper care and protection of all animals in legislation, using the democratic process. The main aim of our group is, to give animals the voice they need in government. ANVIL Ireland is an all Ireland group representing animals in all of Ireland.

ANVIL Ireland recognises animals as sentient beings, with basic needs, and the ability to feel pain, stress and fear. We also recognise the moral responsibility that we, as a first world country, have towards them.

We acknowledge the great work being done, under difficult circumstances, by rescue and welfare groups, as well as other concerned parties around the country. It is vital that all future legislation takes account of this.

Animal welfare bills, in the past have been defeated as a result of powerful lobby groups who have a vested, often financial, interest. ANVIL Ireland aims to address this situation, and ensure a balance in all future government debates and decisions.

An important aspect of our work is, to encourage public debate on the present status of all animals, and the questioning of legislation and practices that fail to address their needs, or prevent their suffering.

ANVIL Ireland intends to, examine the political and legislative system, establish where reform is needed, and press for this reform. Part of our work includes reseaching the causes and possible solutions of the problems.

ANVIL Ireland does not support any one political party, nor is it a vehicle for any one welfare or interest group. It is hoped to unite all interested and right thinking people, under one banner, to give animals the strongest voice possible. Maybe then we will be able to achieve the changes they need.
