I would like to learn your opinions and propositions about Republic of Carthage political and social organisation. You may drop here your opinions and ideas which will be used as base for building AEE Carthage faction.

Was Carthage all that different from Rome? A nominal Republic but really an oligarchy of noble families who controlled it's "senate."

Not so different, but there are enough details that makes Carthage original. I'm rather looking for new convention Carthage faction would be build on. Names of structures, offices and most of all elements of recruitment system.

I know how to prepare all stuff, but would like to discuss it here. Most important thing was in short that Phoenicians from Tyre were occupants. Main part of Punic army was levied into military service from mercenaries not citizens. Lybians, Numidians, Iberians, Gauls. RTR boys introduced system what is almost coded for AEE. The only thing I need is pack of historical names or documents I could use as base.

The Romans were quite thorough in their destruction of Carthage. As happens so often in history, what we mainly know about the city was preserved by )and filtered through) the eyes of their enemies.

I know Carthage had a large port complex. Probably too hard to implement in the battle map, but make it a building that gives cool ships and lots of trade fleets, and chuck in a tax income bonus!
Apart from that, there is very little known about Carthage.

Hi Limes,

probably you already red them, but I think that can be source of some informations about Carthage:
Carthage 1
Carthage 2

ayeaye Sir
In the twilight the two wild populations of the north were in front; each one heard and recognized in heart a gloomy, great sound mixed in the wind: they were the walls that surround living humans, the marching walls of Rome.

There is a book called "Daily Life in Carthage"

Perhaps not the most up to date work, but it does provide some useful info on non military matters. I have skimmed through it, but not read it in full yet
