Hello everyone. I recieved a PM over at CF inviting me here. I bookmarked it and put it in my forums folder so every time I opened all the forums in tabs I came to this site but I've only now bothered to register. Anyways, I am 21 years old and gay, looking for a good man. I live in Evansville, and all the Christian gay men seem to be much older. I am a member of the United Church of Christ and United Methodist Church. I grew up in a conservative megachurch which I still occasionally attend as I love the services. My mom still goes there. Shortly after graduating high school I came out of the closet to my mother and stopped going to church there. I found a gay-friendly United Methodist church and joined it. I work at a 24 hour convenience store, so my work schedule was always crazy to begin with. I took a promotion to become assistant manager, which required me to work every Saturday and Sunday morning, so I was forced to find a church with Saturday evening services. I didn't realize that most churches with Saturday evening services were megachurches like the one I left, but I eventually found a nice UCC congregation. The only problem is sometimes I lack the motivation to go because I don't really know anybody there and with work I can't commit to doing other activities where I might get to know some people. |

WiredSpirit: I too am an assistant manager at a 24 hour gas station. So I know the pain of your churchgoing schedule first hand! You are lucky to find a church with saturday evening services. The only one I have been able to find is the local RC Church which in terms of the Priest's friendliness to gays, I'd rather be locked in a room with Bp. Williamson of the SSPX.You were brave to come out that soon. I got my two year degree in and spent time in two different monastaries (one traditionalist RC one Russian Orthodox) before coming out. It is a tough road to follow because we have the hatin Christians on our right and the hatin gays on the left. We represent a paradox in our lives, but the whole of Christianity is a paradox. I always like to point out who Christ came too. He didn't deal much with the wealthy or the "spiritually astute" but rather with the impoverished, downcast, etc. I personally believe that if Christ had come today for the first time--he'd make a b-line for the nearest AIDS hospice or local GLBT center. Sadly, I realise that some Christians do not like your lifestyle, but why do fellow gay people not approve of you? Welcome WiredSpirit

Why do they see the Church as the enemy? - after all people like yourself do not see it as the enemy (I presume :)) |

well no, however there are too many in the Church who judge gays. These are the ones that harden the hearts of others so that they stay away from church. When they see those of us who are open and openly Christian--they sometimes lash out in hate, which should be understood is not directed at us but rather at the hatin Christians. |

With all the Falwells and Helmses and hate mongers holding a pitchfork in one hand and a bible in the other who get all the media attention, it's very easy to see why so many in the G+L community are fearful of and sometimes despise anything related to Christianity. Honestly I don't think it would matter to those people what sort of group they hated as long as they could hate. |
