Thanks for inviting me to your forum, Buttermilk. Good to be here. My quick spiritual life story. I grew up in a liberal Christian church, converted to Catholicism, then became a fundamentalist. Then I deconverted altogether and became an agnostic for a little bit. That didn't really cut it for me, so I'm back to the liberal Christian bit. Seems I had it right the first time. So, basically, I'm a liberal Christian with universalist/Deist tendencies just trying to make sense of all this. As far as my expectations for a forum: I'm looking for a place to discuss spiritual issues with a wide variety of people. I want to discuss these issues with a completely open mind without fear of getting alerts, warnings, being told I'm not a Christian, or any other such nonsense. Buttermilk says this is the place to be for such as I, so I'll give it a go. Nice to meet you all. Oh, and I just took the Saturn av. Hope that's okay.

Thats some journey! What was it that attracted you to fundementalism & Catholicism? I've been talking with some fundementalists on line for a while - at first is was a case of butting heads but I think partly because its a Christian writers forum, eventually the situation started to change and we've reached some real understandings with each other. Hi there! Glad your here. love and light |

Your journey seems almost as long and strange as mine. I started off in a Fundamentalist church, rebelled from there to Catholicism, then Episcopalianism, and then finally set up roots in the Christian Church(Disciples of Christ), which has room for my somewhat Universalist and Gnostic bent. Good to see you here! |

Well, the Catholicism thing happened when a friend of mine was going through the process of becoming a Catholic. I wasn't happy with the church I was in at the time, so I started going to the classes with him and eventually joined the Catholic church. Then I moved, and wasn't getting much out of the Catholic churches in the new place, another friend I had met a bunch of Southern Baptists and started going to that church. He liked it a lot, so I went with him. So, I guess the main driving force for me in joining different churches was: 1) a dissatisfaction with whatever church I was going to at the time, and 2) having friends going to another church. |
