After the failure of my Fenix headlamp I've become fed up with these sealed type lamps that cannot be repaired, the Fenix was excellent lamp untill the switch failed, also previous to this the same thing happened to my lenser H7. I thought I'd try something more basic, anyway I came across these on ebay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330887618021?ssP...984.m1438.l2648 Although the torch only use a standard bulb you can take them apart and the switching mechanism is simple but excellent, you screw the lamp bezel in and out to switch it on and off and to zoom. I've found a lot of the new headlamps have small switches which are not always easy to locate. I've also found these on ebay which should make the lamp more powerful. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251394188091?var...984.m1438.l2649 |

Sparky, i'm not sure that it's big enough I assume the big battery pack in the back will counterbalance your head, to stop you falling over! Do let us know how you get on though - as the switch on my torch is not always working and as you say the torch becomes U S once any component is gone. What battery are you getting? |

Hi Sparky i used the zoom for years i had converted mine to 6 volt halogen with rechargeable batteries but you need to upgrade the lens to metal as the standard one will melt, you could also get an insert with converted the batteries to 3 AAA and do away with that 4.5 volt square type hope this helps. |

The torch is really light on your head, no problem there Limpet, as for the battery the standard one is a special 4.5v 3LR12 but the supplier of the torch provides a conversion box that takes 3 AA batteries thrown in with the torch. Hey Jock and Congerman the lamp I've ordered to replace the standard bulb is 120 lumen 1Watt cree led which uses a lot less power than a halogen so it should be interesting to see how it performs, what I do like is the bulb is easy to replace. |

The trouble with a lot of these headlamps is the internal electronics, there not up to the rough weather, seems like there not totally water proof. The zoom is pretty waterproof and also the switching is done by simple contacts that are open and shut by screwing the lamp bezel in and out, this is a lot better than fiddling around trying to find small switches when you have cold hands or gloves on, also no electronics to go wrong. Only thing I need to find out know is how long the batteries will last, I recon about 7 hours. |
