a good 25lb mono with a bimini twist leader knot will do the same lol ;)
only when the last tree has been cut down, the last river has been poisoned, and the last fish has been caught, then man will find he cannot eat money.

Nope, been using it on a 525 mag.
Downside when rough the rod nods a lot!...and best to wind on fast side to side to stop bedding in. No birdies yet since putting it on last winter, and not snapped it yet!

Congerman....as to a very strong leader knot....I tried this for a bit and had issues with the line getting very weak after pulling for a break. It was like the suffix titanium I was using at the time was almost breaking at multiple points when snapping. Then it just kept breaking at random on strikes etc!!

Don't you think braid is more suite to fixed spool reels, it's just that I've seem my cousin try to use it on his slosh's and he's had some god awful birds nest, also have you tried a braid leader, a much smaller knot to go through the guides.

I have been using braid on my multipliers now for over a year and have found it is almost impossible to get a birds nest with it. If the spool does over run the braid takes one turn the wrong way round the spool and stops it dead.
If you use a mono leader use the allbright knot to join it to the main line. Its small, neat and easy to tie.
I have used 60lb braid leaders with no problem except it ties itself in wind knots if you have to hand line fish up the side of the pier, a problem you mud hoppers will never have, Join it to your main line with back to back grinners.
It took me a while to find a braid that I was happy with but I can't see me going back to mono.
I used to be conceited, but that was before I became Perfect.

Si - you don't mention if you use a shock leader with this - supposing that 50lb maybe OK straight through if using a light weight.
If you use a leader do you use mono or stronger braid?

When using braid on a FS I was still getting crack-offs due to the mono leader knot putting enough slack in the line on the way out for it to get braid caught on a ring so I gave up. I haven't tried it on multi's.

Bluto & Si - what brand of braid are you using? I have just bought some cheap chinese 50lb (0.36mm) dyneema braid for down-tiding on the boat as the thin 30lb stuff was too soft and snapped if caught anywhere. I could use it on the beach as well as it's going on my Diawa 20SHA if it's worth a try

Cheers

Try any braid that has radial construction. Its rounder and some are coated to make them slip through the rings easier. I have tried Stren Sonic which was OK and Berkley do one which I also tried and found Ok but can't remember the name. These are expensive though about £20-£30 per 300m. I now use the cheap Chinese/Hong Kong alternative from Ebay Spectra Extreme braid at £17 per 1000m.
I use 30lb BS (0.26mm) in red and have just decided to give the braid leaders another go.

Lots of questions
I've been using powerpro off eBay from China in 50lb. It looks genuine but does not come out as well in tests as the USA stuff!
I think it was around £9 for 300m.
I did try some cheaper China stuff in 80lb but after casting and walking back 30m, I emptied the 525 spool!!!....and that was overhead thump with a good wind behind.
I did try the 80 as a leader but you get zero stretch so have been using a 70lb mono leader with allbrite knot, don't even hear it going through the eyes, no problem at all.

I used to use fixed spool with 30lb USA power pro and that would crack off on the eyes randomly :( as it was so soft!!, the China power pro 50lb is more like 20lb mono dia wise and round but still soft, but does not seem to suffer from wind knots.

A good tip with braid is to wet it before casting ;) it calms it down.
Also thumb it fast side to side to criss cross it on the spool on a multi to stop bedding in, and cast further.

Here's a pic of leader knot I tied last year !!....that's only about 10 sessions on the reefs though as don't fish the summer.

Ps...red mono is 24lb tritanium

I don't think I would use heavy braid at chesil as it casts no better than 20lb mono!! I just use it for pulling out of snags on the reefs.

If you want to use braid at chesil prob best use light braid on fixed spool.
