Hi all, does anyone no a good way of stopping slideing" winch type" reel seats from twisting on the rod blank. I have the abu griplok on my rod and its doing my head in when im reeling in.I fish "low reel" most of the time and have thought about changeing them for fixed ones beacuse i dont like coasters. any advice or recomended products would be greatly appreciated.. Have got one of the Penn reel seats on one of my rods - doesn't slide or twist - would make sure you've got the right internal diameter seat to fit your rod as there are a few different sizes available Mate. |

Salt water doesn't taste the same as the fish that swim in it! If you don't need it - put the damn thing back

Hello! This is my first post. At last, a chance to make a positive contribution, rather than bore you all with my disappointing (non)catch reports! I have two of these reel seats in different sizes. The smallest one has ribs on the inside that grip on shrink tube quite well, whereas the larger one is completly plain and slides around a bit. What I did was simply to make some ribs along the length of the reel seat on the opposite side from the reel. I used 16swg gripper wires held in place with insulation tape. Because of the taper of the blank, I needed to pack out the top of the seat a little to stop it wobbling. Tape would be fine but I used a suitable sized 'O' ring which I slid on first. Pushing the seat over this wedges the O ring under the seat and stops it wobbling. Hope this makes sense and is of some help! Allan |

I never liked coasters and didn't like the fact that that often a reel will rock slightly in a zip-lock reel seat and didn't like the movable reel seats increase the diameter of the rod but. What I use now is a couple of stainless steel hose / jubilee clips bought off of the internet to secure the reel. These work just like coasters but without the bulky head. I just take a small screwdriver to tighten the clips. A useful addition I find is to cut out a piece of inner-tube about six inched long and one inch wide and to sit the reel on this with three inches of the strip coming out the back of the reel. Tighten the clips down over the lot and use the strip of rubber under your thumb to grip the spool when casting, you can go full belt with no fear of slippage. Thats enough rubbish from me. Good luck Prof |

cheers for the tips lads, I have a penn coastal reel seat on another rod they are prety solid but a bit bulky. I managed to find one at glasgow angling for 2.99, BARGAIN..( but cant find the catalouge with it in ) I tried allans method but the wire i had was a bit thick and couldnt get the reel seat over it, it would of worked though.( top tip mate cheers). All i have done for now is put a few turns of tape on the blank to bulk it up a bit, which seems to have done the job, i am fishing later so will put it to the test. once again thanks for your contributions, greatley apprieciated.
