HI tcsf
have you checked the brake blocks are actually in the reel and not in the box.
also how much float do you have on the spool.
this might help.

yeh its tightened right down and the blocks are in(made that mistake when i bought it , the bloke said there factory fitted ????first cast with new reel and well you know the rest), i'll check tomorrow and see if there still on the spindle. i've been using multipliers for a long time now and i cant understand it unless my technique needs polishing up!!!LOL ??

thanks

Hi tcsf
there should be slight play on end float.
almost nothing at all.

Hi TCSF,

I'm really no expert (seriously...!), but I wondered if it could have anything to do with casting into the wind perhaps...?? I know my spool can sometimes stutter when casting into a gusty head wind, but I guess this theory all depends on you having only used the reel in windy conditions...?

Perhaps another little theory could be that the reel doesn't 'appreciate' having any line put back on unevenly and/or not under tension...??

also, make sure you dont overload the spool, enough to fish with is enough, this will blow up a lot less. Thicker lines birdy less to so have you started using thinner line??

A few drops of 3 in 1 oil on both sets of spool bearings should calm things down. You can drop it in through the right side end cap down the spool spindle. You will need to remove the left side plate to drop some on the left side bearings. If that dosen't work try larger break blocks. Never use any end tension on the spool. If you do you will wear out the end cap and spool spindle and you don't have a left side tensioner to centre the spool on an SL20.

If you can't solve the problem then its time to remove the bearings, soak in solvent, dry and re-lube. The only time my 7HT and SL20 have ever become troublesome is when I have not cleaned and re-lubed the bearings for a long time. I'm guessing a few tiny grains of salt/dust/dried oil can make the bearings behave erractically.

Good luck

Hi TCSF, I use slosh 30's. i always make sure that the line is at least 6 - 8 mm down the spool then add the shock leader. i have my spool quite loose on the float maybe 1 -2 mm side play and i just belt it every cast. when i first had these i filled them rite up to the rim "WHAT A NITEMARE". Hope this helps. :) :) :)

One other thing i forgot to mention earlier is not to go lower than 18lb breaking strain on the line. I always use 18 or 20 and don't get any problems. CHEERS. :D
