been doing all my fishing down in south devon this year but am looking at taking a trip or two up from devon to the channel over the next few weeks. i am looking first and foremost to have the best chance of a cod or two, however i am limited on how far i can walk etc due to medical probs. so would prefer a mark that is within say 10 to 15 min walk max and easy (ish) access. dont mind if it is a mud hole but want to stay away from piers etc and the crowds if possible. a nice grass bank or smallish rocky shore line would be great. my ideal session would be to fish both daylight and night time as most of my fishing is done in 10 to 18 hr stints, although i dont mind having to move to a couple of marks if one fishes best in day and one in night. a mark that does not require casting to the moon to catch would also be good as about 120 yrds is my max. also what sort of tides, tide size bait etc. any help would be great. There are easy access venues that you can fish over high water but the problem with the Bristol Channel is the distance the tide recedes from the high tide line. Blue Anchor sea wall can be fished from the car over high water over springs. Burnahm on Sea sea front is also OK over mid - spring tides over high water, there are also toilets there. This is fairly easy access and involves no more than about thirty yards walking. I suppose that you could fish of off the slipway at all states of the tide but have never tried it. Many years ago I fished from both Watchet and Minehead harbour arms, I recall these were not too hard to get to. I'm not aware of any easy access venue that can be fished at all states of the tide. Others may be better placed to help. Cheers Prof |

thanks for your reply however not too worried about it fishing one mark over all states of tides as i am quite happy to fish 2 or 3 diff marks in a session, at different states of tide. the reason being i cannot see the point in traveling a good distance to go fishing then only having 3 or 4 hrs or so to fish then going home, i like to have a good session of at least 8 hrs if i travel to fish, if that means 2 diff marks then so be it. i can do 2, 3 or 4 hr short sessions down here, just fancy a change of venue and a decent length of session or two. the distance the tide recedes from the high tide line just throws up the same sort of problems for both normal anglers and dissabled, in as much i would think most follow it out and retreat back during the flood, so that shouldnt prove too much of a problem. some of the places i fish are hard or limited on there access so just takes me longer to get down than most but when needs must and if this is the main for the better spots on the channel then so be it, as i said i would rather give piers and harbour arms etc a miss as this is the bulk of what i do now and am looking for a bit of a change. |
