if fishing portishead pier, more so at low water, be aware that the channel giving access to the marina is a navigatable channel for boats. boats have right of way, so fishing into the channel should be avoided. due to the build up of the mud there is now only a narrow channel so the boats need to come close to the pier. , so fish sensibly and be considerate. steve |

Does the high tide REALLY go over the pier? If so, how high does the tide need to be before the pier can't be fished? Thanks in advance. Ash |

Yes it does. and even if its just below the sill the wash from boats and ships can wash over it. think its tides over 12.5 but i may be wrong and way out, sure somebody will confirm it. |

Anything over a 12 on the Avonmouth scale is dangerous especially if the wind has any Norwesterly in it don`t even bother. I know I and a few others have been there and up the ladder when one has come over. You can fish bigger tides but you must make sure that you get off for an hour or two over high water as the tide will sweep right over the pier. |
