Depends where you been fishing mate. The upper channel is useless for lure fishing as there is no visibility.

You are best looking for clear water around a feature like rocks, piers, rivermnouths etc.

Its like pike fishing or even fly fishing, take a variety of lures and try them all until you get a take. Work the lures in different directions, at different depths and different speeds until something happens. Take some metal spoons / wedges for distance, plugs with different actions for mid water and some surface poppers for skidding across the surface.

The problem with bass fishing is that it dosn't happen like in the magazine articles, it a lot more work than it seems. The locations where you can successfully lure fish regularly are few and far between and often require long journeys at inconvenient times.

Travel to a known bass location and ask in the local tackle shop may be your best bet. They will tell you where and even sell you the lure. Even then I caught sweet FA when I tried this in Lyme Regis.

Build up a good local knowledge of the bits of coast nearest to you where you can fish with lures. It will take time.

Best of luck

Prof

Best catch so far: Crabs in Shepton Mallet circa 1990
