Never caught a plaice myself so I'm no expert.

I did see blokes fishing a match at Chesil once and they were catching plaice. It must have been Cogden or Freshwater.

They were using a paternoster rig about 3 feet long with a bait clip top and bottom then looping a 6 foot trace up and down between the bait clips so they could cast it. They had a few attractor beads on the trace near the hook and baited with live rag.

This was cast out a far as they could chuck it with either a plain lead or a lead with only half the grip wires in place.

I suppose the whole lot rolled gently along the bottom in a big arc in the tide with the combination of movement, beads and bait attracting fish.

Hope this helps your plaice fishing aspirations.

Best catch so far: Crabs in Shepton Mallet circa 1990
