Used raw kingprawns from Morrisons £1.99 before xmas at Severn Beach and caught codling on them, but I think its too late in the season now, all the prawns have gone through the channel. I think i'm right, any thoughts? |

Your better off just using squid in the coloured waters of the channel, its cheaper, stays on the hook better and and gives off a lot more scent than prawns. If I was ever to use prawns in the b.c. I'd use larger ones, live, hooking them so their still 'clicking' away. Only problem is you can't really cast them any distance without killing them or them coming off the hook. More of a bait suited to clearer waters I think. There's always some shrimp/prawns in the channel but they seem to come on-mass around oct/nov time. Think at moment your better off using some sort of the fish bait; makerel, herring, sprat etc... As according to a mate who was out on a boat the other day the channel is still rammed with sprat, so thick you could walk across the things. Even heard of some boat finding a sprat shoal quarter of a mile long! Lets hope for some bumpy weather soon to start breaking them up. |

I'm beggining to think we should try to persuade Murkydepths to go into the sprat-for-bait business ! We could stock up now to have a year-round supply. |
