Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

One of the largest of Ocaruth’s clutch, a pale egg streaked with faint yellow lightning bolts, was the first to break. Little cracks appeared in the shell, growing bigger and bigger. Taps could be heard at varying intervals, pausing, starting up again, pausing once more, until a shrill noise emanated from within and the shell caved in on itself. A copper, and a big one at that! Not so much bulky as long, he uncoiled from his tight ball like a snake, shaking egg goo and shell fragments off of his wings. Gangly was the first word that came to mind to those viewing him, stunning being the second.

He was a gorgeous copper, a burnished orange color, darkened slightly by amniotic fluid but no less shimmery. On his chest was an asymmetrical a cluster of grey, almost bright enough to seem like silver, an imperfect circle with irregular rays emanating out across his sides and wings. Upon closer inspection, they looked like bolts of lightning, and a collective gasp left the spectators as he fanned his wings and took an eager step towards the candidates.

Many gave him hopeful looks, and he spared them only cursory glances. Politeness, perhaps, or vague curiosity for those pricks of light, but it looked like he knew exactly what he was looking for. Eyes focused intently upon one woman, and he crooned excitedly, bouncing forward to butt at her stomach. Tesla! Your Nikolath has so many stories to tell you!

Posted Image

Beryllium Nikolath
(Nick - oh - lath)
Inquisitive, Imaginative, Intelligent
49 Feet
Tesla
#bd6500

Appearance:

Nikolath is a copper not unlike the coloring of copper wire but a bit more orange. On his chest there is a cluster of grey, almost bright enough to seem like silver, an imperfect circle with irregular rays emanating from the horribly asymmetrical, and yet oddly balanced, circle. From both sides, longer stronger rays raggedly radiate along his sides, on the right following his shoulder and up the wing and on the left along his side and down his back leg. Smaller rays branch off of these.

Size wise, he’s tall for a copper, long of leg, neck, tail, and even wing. He seems a bit on the thin side, what many would call gangly, though he’s not unhealthy (as long as he remembers he needs to eat!). His wing sails are full and great for flying and his gangliness makes trick flying seemingly (at least to him) infinitely possible.

Personality:

Above all, Nikolath is curious and inquisitive. He will seek out a puzzle just for the joy of solving it. Like his rider, he is glad to explore the world just to explore it. Not selfish about the process of discovery and exploration, he is content to share the experiences and results with others, and takes special joy in working through a difficult problems or quandaries – even if they don’t pose actual problems for anyone! – with Tesla. However, don’t expect him to be content stopping with any given solution, not if it’s possible to make it even better or to build off it to discover even more! There is nothing he does not want to know and explore and learn and discover, and that he gets to do all that with his Rider is only right and how the world should be. Perhaps his first real discovery and invention was Tesla and their bond together.

Loving stories, Nikolath enjoys to listen to Harpers or others tell stories and sing songs – but be aware, if you bring up something he’s not sure is possible, he’ll start picking it apart. Worse, if you mention something that is supposed to be not possible, but he thinks that maybe it could be, you’ll have lost him while his mind wonders to puzzle out the how.

Oddly, he has a bit of a contradiction when it comes to attention. He can get single-mindedly lost in a task, so much that he forgets to do other more immediately important things, but once he’s got it, while he’ll remember what the solution was, he won’t bother to record it. It’ll be up to his Rider to immortalize any great discoveries.
In return, he’ll listen aptly to geeky arguments and ravings, though the above caveats apply! If you start talking about warp drive, he’ll start contemplating single mindedly whether Einstein was right or not, maybe, just maybe, there is a way to cross that barrier... could one make a computer that was a whole planet... can he fashion a weapon from gears and springs that could defeat a light saber…

Nikolath would fly all day, if he could. It’s a great way to discover new places and see new things! And it’s a great activity to do while his mind is puzzling something, when sometimes you need to move something from the front of your mind to the back, to shift the focus, that is the time to fly. Between is more interesting as a theory and it does have its conveniences, but really, flight is where it’s at!

Why Tesla:
Together they will go on adventures, discover the world, fly high and fast and fun. They will enjoy hours of invention and geekdom and never tire friendly debates, with each other or others.

One of the smaller eggs of the clutch, an egg sporting an unusual amber tone with dark brown swirls, finally began to show some life. It shook from side to side for a few moments, when suddenly a large piece of shell was expelled outward with a considerable amount of force. Fortunately, none the assembled candidates were injured and the occupant of the egg certainly had everyone's attention at this point. No matter what color dragon this egg yielded, the dragonet within was clearly done with waiting.

A forelimb emerged from the jagged hole in the egg, followed quickly by a wedge-shaped head. The hatchling swung its head upward in an unconventional attempt to free itself by headbutting the remains of its shell. The unorthodox maneuver somehow worked and the dragonet fell backwards to the sands, still dark and damp with amniotic fluid. It was a little hard to tell its coloration in the dim lighting of the hatching cavern, but as the hatchling struggled to roll over and then stand up on wobbly legs, stray light revealing a gleaming blue hide. And what a hide it was! As the blue took an unsteady step forward, the light played across his limbs where several shades of blue rippled, fading from teal to cerulean and then back to turquoise.

Gaining confidence in his new walking abilities, the little blue tilted his head up to regard the eager faces looking down at him. There were so many new people to meet! Though hunger gnawed at his stomach, the dragonet cheerfully set out to find which of those people were his. Hopefully he'd meet them all one day, but he knew that finding the right one was the priority right now. It would be a challenging quest though, since there were so many wonderful minds out there!

Undaunted, the blue continued his walk over the sands, careful the avoid the remaining eggs. He cocked his head in curiosity as he considered each person he passed. No, no, just not quite right. Yet the blue was not discouraged. He would find who he was looking for, it was just a matter of--ah! The dragonet picked up his pace as he finally found a match. She was exactly what he'd been looking for!

Oh there you are, Esuta! I was looking all over for you! Why are you standing all the way over here? Were you hiding from me? He exclaimed excitedly before rubbing his head against her knee. Anyways, I'm Riarroth and I'm hungry! Where's the food?

Posted Image
Outgoing, Whimsical, Cheerful
30 Feet
Blue
Esuta
darkcyan

Appearance:

The first thing that captures the eye about Riarroth is the rich color of his hide. Though as a blue he should be solidly chromatic, there is an undeniable metallic sheen that ripples over his body when he lounges in the sunlight. Beneath the glimmer is a riot of teal, turquoise, and cerulean, shades reminiscent of the Southern seas. Riarroth's form matches this impression, though at 30 feet he will not be as lithe as smaller greens and graphites, the blue is nonetheless as sleek as a wave. His limbs, neck, and tail are slightly elongated, giving him a more serpentine look, with narrow wings that will allow for increased agility in the air.

Personality:
Outgoing, Diplomatic, Intelligent, Confident, Whimsical, Cheerful

Riarroth is a social creature, which Esuta may find at times to be both helpful and exasperating, depending on her mood. He is practically immune to awkwardness and has no qualms about breaking the ice with someone he hasn't met. He enjoys talking to a wide variety of people and is genuinely interested in what they have to say. Thankfully the blue also has a good memory, so he's able to remember all (most) of these details!

Though Riarroth is not shy, he also is not oblivious. The blue has a good grasp of what is and is not polite and has plenty of tact to help manage social situations. He has a well developed sense of fairness and will seek to right any wrongs he comes across, if it is in his power. He is a relatively logical thinker when he wants to be and is both capable of and interested in intellectual discussions far more than the average dragon.

Despite his fondness for logic, Riarroth also has a whimsical streak. It comes out at odd times, sometimes in topics he wants to discuss or learn about, but also in the things he does. Esuta might come home one day to find their weyr decorated in desert stones that Riarroth painstakingly collected and then stacked in haphazard arrangements. When asked about these exploits, Riarroth will give the draconic equivalent of a shrug and not much else. He wanted to do it, so he did. What more reason is needed?

Another defining trait of Riarroth's personality is his near irrepressible cheerfulness and optimism. He always looks at the bright side of things, even if that means squinting and straining to see it in a dire situation. Anytime Esuta is feeling down, she can count on him to find the silver lining, or at least offer whatever support she needs. The flipside of this is that sometimes she will need to be the voice of reason, when Riarroth is claiming that fighting a giant tunnelsnake on their own would be a wonderful idea that has absolutely no chance of failure. They keep each other grounded to form a truly solid pair.

From the wher clutch, an egg shook with increasing enthusiasm, as if it hadn’t heard that people were less excited for whers. There was a big, bright world out there, and it wanted out. Sooner, rather than later, if you would be so polite. Its efforts shook the egg back and forth, almost furious enough to send it actually moving from the indentation of sand where it had been carefully placed. Soon, now. Just a few more seconds…

Finally, a tail burst forth in a spray of eggshells, revealing itself to be a bright, tropical blue. Ah, a blue wher then? The egg was somewhat large for that, but not unheard of by any stretch of the imagination. As if it knew all eyes were on it, the egg rocked a little more before the shell finally burst, sending pieces everywhere with the enthusiasm of the little creature that was within, finally revealing himself to the world with a mildly disgruntled growl. This was not an organized process, and no one was helping him, but… There was something bright out there, something good.

This was no blue, however. Though his tail was shockingly bright, his body was even more so, and in sharp contrast to the rest in a red that was reminiscent of some of the flowers and fruit from down south. When he opened his wings, slightly large for a wher, they had a tinge of yellow to their edge, though there was little doubt that he was, in fact a blood. He stood on unsteady legs, taking in his audience for a moment, then enraptured by the remnants of his own shell for a further few seconds before a pit of hunger grew in his stomach. Oh, he really needed to eat, didn’t he? And he knew there was someone in the circle of watching faces that would know how to feed him, and how to take care of all his other needs besides.

Whisk. Am Whisk. Pretty food. Like colors. Feed? Having found a mind he found suitably receptive, the wher reached out, making it clear that this was what he wanted. They had so much ahead of them, but for now, food was most important.

Blood Whisk
12 feet
(Creative, hard working, organized)

Appearance: At twelve feet, Whisk is a respectable sized blood wher. As with other whers, his form is compact and not particularly elegant, though there’s something charming about his face and his slightly inward turning front toes, as if he was a very eager dog. His wings are also somewhat overlarge for his species, though they’re still undersized as a whole. They tend to hang loosely at his side, almost casually, though he has the habit of using them to flap when particularly excited or stimulated by something.

His color, however, is truly spectacular- an orange-y red hue that’s distinctly tropical, with a darker muzzle and legs, and a lighter, almost white ring around his eyes and mouth. The edges of his wingsail are a golden yellow, while his tail is startlingly blue for its entire length. It’s his tail that stands out the most- from behind, it’s natural to mistake him from a blue, but once the rest of him is revealed, it’s clear that Whisk is a blood.

Personality: Whisk may not be a fighter, but there’s no doubt he’s an extraordinary capable and useful wher. He’s the great organizer, always encouraging his comrades to both do their best and partake in activities that help bond the troop together, if not the entire Weyrhold. Not only will it be fun, he’ll suggest, but we’ll get closer, and isn’t that what we all want? What Whisk says always seems to go- he’s extremely persuasive, but not in a malignant way. He is nothing if not well-intentioned, and his good cheer makes it almost impossible to say no to him. Other whers aren’t so sociable, but that isn’t a concern with Whisk, who treats every one of his companions equally, no matter their rank.

He’s also an artiste- in as much as a wher can be one. Not only does this extend to drawing patterns in the sand with his tail, but coming up with truly off the wall ideas that seem all the more extraordinary coming from a squat little wher. Though his ideas may be a tad strange, it’s surprising how often both the other whers and the other humans go with it, and a testament to his ingenuity. Perhaps his favorite thing to do, however, is crush different flower petals and leaves to see what color comes out, enthusiastically smearing it every which way. Well, it makes sense to Whisk, and isn’t that all that matters?

Don’t let any of this trick you into thinking Whisk ever slacks off, however. There’s no doubt that he’s a hard-working wher, throwing himself into any project whole-heartedly, be it his own or someone else’s. He seems to take a special joy in knowing that he’s helpful and needed, and he’s keen to share that joy with his handler.

One of the tiniest eggs was the next to hatch. Most of those who had bet had put money on a green or a black, or perhaps even a graphite. As a silver snout poked through, many quickly guessed that the latter was correct. A foot, paler but still silver, seemed to confirm that suspicion.

E
xcept, suddenly, the baby inside pushed just right and the egg shattered into pieces, revealing not a graphite, but a cheery, silver marked blue.

He sat in the wreckage of his former home for a moment, looking confused. It was cold out here, his belly hurt, and he was so lonely!

Instinct drove him to his feet and he approached the nearest candidate, creeling—but they were not right! He could take only the best! Only one person could ease the ache in his stomach and in his heart. He stumbled over the sands, whipping his head left and right.

And there it was, the bright flicker of a special woman’s mind. As soon as his eyes landed on her, he let out a happy squeal and proceeded to gallop over to her.

Or, at least, he tried to. He was still a newborn, his proportions ungainly and his limbs uncooperative. When he was still a few yards away from his chosen one, he skidding in the sands, wings flailing as he tumbled, rump over teakettle, to land at Cat’s feet.

Despite his positioning, on his back in the sand with his wings splayed every which way, he had never been happier in his life. Found you Cat! Ferth found you! Found you found you found you! he trilled happily. After a moment, though, he paused in confusion. Why are you upside down?

Posted Image
Ferth
Blue
Sunny, Curious, Self-Centered
29 feet
Cat
4592c3

Appearance:

In length, Ferth is just slightly below average for his color at 29 feet. However, in build he’s slim and sleek, with wings that are oversized in comparison to the rest of him. This combination means his maneuverability in the air is almost more comparable to a medium-sized green or black instead of what one might expect from his size, although, of course, his stamina suffers for it.

His coloring is simple but striking. A bright medium blue starts on his head and wings, but fades to a more muted tone by the time it reaches his hindquarters, tail, and back legs. A pale silver touches the tip of each foot, as well as his tail, and a slightly darker hue of that same silver marks his snout. A streak of the paler silver is also visible on the lowest section of the inside of each wingsail.

Personality:

Ferth is just, in general, a cheery dragon. His disposition matches his bright hide and his personality could easily be described as ‘sunny.’ He enjoys being around people and has a wide circle of friends. As a happy, sensible guy, it’s not uncommon for said friends to come to him when they’re feeling down and need a shoulder to lean on.

Ferth is also insatiably curious, always looking to learn new things. This extends to one thing in particular: food. The strange process of preparing and cooking food humans do fascinates him to no end, even if most people-food doesn’t really appeal to him in the taste department. If Cat is cooking or baking something, she better be prepared for a constant chatter of questions from him, or else do it when he’s sleeping.

To say Ferth is self-centered is not showing the whole picture—he is always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend and he certainly won’t push himself forward at the expense of others. If push comes to shove, however, himself and his Cat will always come first.

Towards the middle of the clutch one of the smaller eggs began to quiver. As minutes passed the movements picked up in severity, until the egg itself was wobbling across the sands, the dragon inside propelling itself towards the outer boundary of the clutch with surprising speed for an ovoid with no legs. It garnered attention along the way too, candidates noticing the egg’s travels, and soon a whole section was watching it, waiting for the emergence of whatever color lay within.

The bursting came suddenly, strong wings for such a small frame assisting in cracking the shell in three, leaving a rather sticky dragonet in its place. Her hide was forest green, with crackles of copper across her wing sails and body. She was large for a newly hatched green, and not in the least bit shy. Candidates stared at her, awaiting her movement toward whoever she found suitable, and she stared right back. Judging each one, the smallest mental touch all she required to rule out the candidates that were unsuitable. It wasn’t until her mental evaluation landed upon one particular young woman, bushy haired and perhaps a bit skeptical about the whole event, that she made any move at all.

This candidate she squawked at, an unexpectedly loud sound from a hatchling that had been behaving like a statue. Kless! We must go, I am hungry and you need not burn your feet on these ridiculous sands any longer. There are bigger, better matters to attend to. For example, your Valaith. Despite the shortness of her tone rainbows danced through the green’s eyes, and one more Impression was made.

Valaith
(Vahl-eye-th)
Rational, Unflappable, Creative
33 feet
Green
Kless

#32A701

Name: Valaith

Appearance: Valaith is a large green, definitely a carrier of the Puranath gene, maturing at a hefty 33 feet long. She has a lithe frame to match most greens, while her larger size and unusually muscular wings give her a slight stamina boost in the air her strengths are still speed and agility. Her hide has a forest green base color, with copper markings that resemble lightning across all of her body except her legs. It also has a gleam to it when Valaith stands in sunlight, not as shiny as your average metallic dragon but not fully matte.

Personality: Rational, Unflappable, Creative

Valaith is a dragon who, much like Kless, finds evidence to be of compelling usefulness when making decisions. She is not one who is likely to fall for tall tales and those who might enjoy tricking the gullible. Instead she observes, listens, and will ask Kless a whole mountain of questions until she feels she understands the matter at hand sufficiently to make a decision on whatever the problem is. She will be confused by circumstances that are necessarily related to emotions, and Kless will need to take the time to explain it to the green. Yet, whenever Kless feels overwhelmed by the sheer illogic of the world around her, Valaith will be a bastion of sanity.

In those moments Valaith will also not be easily moved to frustration or anger. She is calm and composed, unruffled by the problems life will throw at the pair, wholly sympathetic to Kless’ feelings but oriented toward either finding a solution or working with the situation until a solution can be found. Towards others she’s less sympathetic, especially if they’re part of what may be causing Kless stress. Then Valaith will find some choice words for those individuals, dry but cutting to the bone.

Some of this talent for words comes from Valaith’s innate sense of creativity in many arenas. She’s very good with on the spot wit, and will immensely enjoy Kless reading aloud to her from all sorts of novels or other media. She’ll be able to trade stories with the best of harpers, not falling for their guiles but fully appreciating their talents. As well, the first time Kless draws a portrait of Valaith the green will admire it for days, and probably end up insisting it stays in her part of the weyr. While draconic participation in art is limited, Valaith will appreciate human endeavors on a level not often seen in a dragon.

Another smaller egg, speckled with gray and silver, ricocheted violently off of its two neighbors, burrowing deeper into the sand as the dragonet inside fought for freedom. The golden clutchmother gave the egg a curious look, head tilting to the side, as if she could hear whatever the baby inside was saying. Mere moments later, a long section of the shell bulged, stretching and then giving way to a thick, rather short purple tail. An especially runty garnet? A uniquely-colored blue? No… A leg punched through the speckled shell, and then a wing, and finally, the black dragonet pushed himself free with a triumphant squeal. Vanquished at last, you scullion! Spitting upon the fragments of his shell, the black flared his wet wings and hop-skipped away from the eggs that remained.

While not as iridescent as many of his color, he sported a handsome matte black hide with faint violet highlights, and what he lacked in shimmer he made up for with the brilliant violet that licked up his legs, underside, and wing sails like flames. The black seemed to be having trouble working his short limbs, though, and promptly stumbled, diving nose-first into the hot sand. Loathsome catastrophe! What is this that hinders me? One brave candidate took a step forward to help him, but was pulled back by a friend. Perhaps it was for the best: the black was determined to right himself on his own. One paw after the other, he got his legs beneath him, and with a triumphant, squeaky bugle, he continued on his way.

Many candidates were observed and stopped before, but there was a twinkle in the young dragon’s eye that made it seem like he was more amused than interested. None of them were right, not him, or her, or them...but her! Grinning widely, the black reared up before his chosen one, planting his forepaws against her legs and wrapping his wings around her in a draconic hug. Kolly, my dear one, yours is a light that’s best kept glowing! Don’t you agree? Thine Leviath hungers.

Black Leviath
(Lee - vy - ath)
Sassy, Imaginative, Daring
21 Feet
Kolstoi

#1e1e1e

Appearance:

Twenty-one feet in length and five feet tall at the shoulder, Leviath sports a small, compact build that belies a hidden strength. He’s an incredibly streamlined dragon, with unusually smooth and short neck ridges that will offer very little drag in the air and in the water. His limbs are all shorter than usual, his legs muscular, his wings broad. He’s agile and fast, yet fairly durable, able to withstand forces that might knock a similarly-sized dragon over. His chest is deep and broad, with a lung capacity that will prove beneficial both in Threadfall and during his underwater adventures.

Leviath lacks the glossy iridescence that many of his color boast of, but it makes him no less handsome. His hide is a matte black, sporting faint purple highlights that shine subtly in the sunlight. What he lacks in shimmer, he more than makes up for with his stunning markings. Brilliant violet licks up his legs, underside, and the edges of his wings, as if flames are swirling over his skin. well His is a beauty that won’t blind, yet will still take away the breath of anyone who sees him for the first time.

Personality:

Sassy: One of the first things you’ll notice about Leviath is that he is sassy. Sarcasm and wit are his bread and butter, and he has an immensely clever mind. His witty remarks are to amuse, not offend, his tongue only turning sharp when he or his Kolstoi are grievously offended. His insults and playful quips alike are a bit confusing, wordy and rather...Shakespearean in nature. He takes great joy in watching others try and unravel their meaning.

Imaginative: After hearing one of his jokes, it’s no surprise to discover that Leviath is incredibly imaginative. He lives for stories, and frequently gets lost in his own head, stuck in the worlds his mind comes up with. Kolstoi can expect many, many sleepless nights listening to the stories that his intelligent black weaves. He has a special fondness for romance and adventure, and speaks in such an animated voice that his audience is practically transported into his made-up universes. It won’t be uncommon to see him surrounded by grown dragons and weyrlings alike, regaling them with his latest masterpiece.

Daring: Leviath doesn’t rely solely on his brain to get his thrills. He is a notoriously daring dragon, brave and fearless in every situation. Those who don’t know him might call him reckless, which isn’t entirely accurate. He will be happy to inform everyone that he always takes his and Kolstoi’s safety into account during his escapades. Of course, he’ll also be the first to claim that he and his rider are invisible… Kolstoi will have t be the more cautious of the pair, but they’ll always have great fun.

Dependable: Leviath is the rock of the wing, the clutch, the friend group, even the Weyr. His ledge is open at all times of the day to anyone who needs him, be they dragon or human or even wher. He may not always have the perfect solution to one’s problems, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t try. He’ll give all he can give, even if he can only offer a shoulder to cry on or a comforting wing-hug.

Fun Facts:

 • Leviath speaks like a Renaissance Englishman. He has a unique set of old-fashioned words in his vocabulary, and might need Kolstoi’s help in translating what he says for strangers. His mind-voice is passionate, and he enunciates his words very carefully.
 • Never, ever say ”buttocks” around Leviath. There is just something about the word that rubs him the wrong way. It sends shudders down his spine, makes him grit his teeth, and he very well might call you a “knotty-pated fool” for such a transgression. Other words, he’s fine with. Just keep the glutes out of conversation.
 • The sea will forever be an object of utmost fascination for Leviath. His imagination runs wild at the mere sight of its rolling waves and shadowy depths. What lies beneath, dragonlengths and dragonlengths below the surface? Will they ever find out? He’ll certainly try to unlock those mysteries, taking deep-sea dives whenever he gets the chance and sometimes forgetting that he actually needs air! He’ll become a skilled, agile swimmer with practice.

One of the larger eggs in the clutch had begun to rock quite violently, not just shaking from side to side but vibrating and emitting a muffled squealing, emphasized by a wave of excitement that washed out of the creature inside and across the awaiting candidates. It was a dramatically marked egg, icy blue that shaded to near pure-white on the top and was flecked with purple, as if an artist had taken a paintbrush and flicked it at the shell.

I'm coming, the hatchling called, I'm coming out now! I hope you're ready, because I am!

She was true to her word; seconds later, a pink snout emerged, followed shortly afterward by a purple head, colored along the back with deep magenta. The dragon that followed wasn't at all typically colored for a garnet. She had little true red on her body and looked like an overzealous tailor had taken the most vibrant dyes available to her glimmering, metallic hide.

Her bright magenta was touched by purple on her face and the undersides of her wings, with streaks of white-pink down her face and on the edges of her wing sails. Her feet, the back of her wings, and her spine were all a deeper, much darker color. She was so vibrant that she seemed almost garish against the sands, but still quite beautiful.

I'm here! She crowed, spreading wet wings and flapping them dramatically.

She took a few stumbling steps towards the candidate, and her laugh washed over their minds like a gentle spring breeze. She was hungry and lonely but still managed to radiate an infectious joy and her bubbling laugh was refreshing to the tense candidates. There would be no mauling from this dragon!

Now let's seeee, she cooed, assessing her choices with bright eyes. She pranced a little closer, wriggling all over with excitement. Oh you're all wonderful! But I think...no, I know! I know you're the one! S'yn! My Syna!

The garnet dragon made a tremendous leap and landed in a flourish of sand and flailing of wings and limbs at the feet of her chosen rider. Oh, you're just wonderful! I'm Issitoth!

Garnet Issitoth
(Issie-tohth)
Peppy, Selfless, Sensitive
50 feet
S'yn (Synapse)

#760027

Appearance: Issitoth is a dramatically unconventional garnet. While most tend towards true reds with hints of the gold they are descended from, she has distinctly blue undertones and leans more towards the pink side of the spectrum. Her bright magenta fades into a more purple-y hue on the undersides of her wings and her chest and face and is accented by stripes of faded, near-white pink. The backsides of her wings, her feet, and her spine are all a deep, dark magenta that is nearly black on her extremities. Issitoth is average in length, but she has a long and graceful snout and a delicate, almost dainty build that's out of place on a dragon her size. She moves with a grace normally reserved for greens, and although her endurance suffers greatly for her slim build, she's a wonder to watch in flight.

Personality: She might be a queen, but Issitoth typically shows none of the regality expected from a dragon of her status. She is as excitable as a child and often talks a mile a minute, bouncing from one subject to the next without fully completing sentences when she gets over-excited or over-stimulated. She is relentlessly optimistic, positive to a fault, and full of such infectious joy, that those around her can't help but feel cheered by her sheer sunny presence. A beacon of hope in the uncertainty of a Pass, Issitoth is a joy to be around even on the darkest of days. She cares deeply for everyone around her and would gladly give the wings off her own back for a friend or throw herself into thread if it would save someone. She has little regard for her own safety when the well being of others is so much more important to her. She's also intensely sensitive and emotional, especially for a dragon. She has a tendency to overreact that can be a bit grating when her voice soars up in volume and she broadcasts her excitement or distress to the entire Weyr, but since she's generally a happy-go-lucky creature, most folks don't mind too much.

Mother of Whers
The small egg in front of Mercury had been rocking steadily for some time, though its occupant didn’t seem to be making much progress. It was a little startling, therefore, when the orb abruptly split in two, sending a creeling little wherlet tumbling onto the sands.

He was a striking specimen, brightly-colored and whip-thin. As he stretched himself out and rolled, attempting to find his feet, he revealed a rather serpentine figure not often seen in whers. Though he grunted and panted in irritation, clumsy and weak from the effort of hatching, he focused in quickly on his intended handler, craning his neck up and narrowing his eyes.

He inspected her quietly for a moment, but it was curiosity rather than suspicion that caused the delay. He didn’t hesitate at all, in fact, in reaching out to her – verbally and physically. Inching forward on his belly, he pawed at her leg, entreating:
Mersk so hungry! Help, please?

Mersk
Perceptive, Sociable, Adaptable
10.5 feet
Blue (#16ACE2)
Mercury

Appearance:

At 10.5 feet, Mersk is of average size for a blue. His coloring and stature, however, set him apart from his peers. Slim and long-legged, he’s built almost delicately, with a thin tail and narrow wings. He has a graceful, loping gate that is sure to be appreciated by his handler or any passengers, and he can turn on a dime, which is especially impressive considering his speed. Mersk is incredibly fast, and will be among the quickest whers in the Troop, though he’s built more for sprinting than long-distance running.

Mersk’s hide is predominantly a bright aquamarine. This color fades down his legs until it’s nearly white, and his wingsails are an eye-catching azure. Several large spots in this same darker color trail down either side of his back, from the base of his wings to his hips.

Personality:

Mersk is an extremely intelligent wher, but his smarts are predominantly interpersonal and situational. He’s better, generally, at solving problems than thinking about them. He’s an excellent strategist, and very perceptive – he can navigate conversation easily, with both his fellow whers and their handlers, and he’s good at putting others at ease. It isn’t difficult for him to piece together others’ intentions or motivations, and he’s a canny negotiator, as well as a good advice-giver.

Calm and straight-forward, Mersk has a wealth of common sense. He’s a steady and reliable wher to work with, and while he’s not a natural fighter, he is highly adaptable. He’ll be content to follow Mercury’s lead, whether she prefers he be a fighter, healer, or tracker for the Troop. He’s sure to take to any of those roles quickly, and is the type who enjoys work nearly as much as play.

Mersk is a bit of a meddler; he believes he knows what’s best for himself and his handler, and will not hesitate to push her out of her comfort zone. He is her staunchest supporter, however, and will never leave her out to dry – he will seek out new experiences for the both of them to share, and is sure to make many connections during the process. Mersk is one of those affable, easy-to-talk-to characters who’s never met a stranger.

Mersk’s favorite activity, more than even running, is swimming. If there’s a lake or an ocean handy, good luck coaxing him out of it – he can entertain himself for hours just by paddling around. He is also fairly fastidious and cleanly. He’ll tolerate getting dirty, but he doesn’t want to stay that way, and what better way to get clean than by going for a swim?

The blue wher suddenly became conscious; he opened his eyes. He saw nothing. Everything was black. Everything was too close, and was capturing him in this space. Honestly, he did not understand why he hadn't woken sooner. Now there was no reason to sit in this miserable prison. The wher's paws felt around, anywhere for a weak point and eventually decided on kicking where much of his weight had fallen: on the bottom, off to the side so that his escape would be easy.

He made quick work of the shell, and one of his front limbs punched through the malformed green thing. One more punch and the majority of the egg crumbled, leaving the wherling standing on the sands with his legs wobbling slightly.

What a blue! His base color wasn't that fantastic: a red-tinged purple, perhaps indigo. What really made him stand out, however, were his markings. The undersides of his wings, stomach, throat, and tail were a bright orange-gold color that shined, and seemed to send a metallic sheen of a similar color all over his body as if he were being illuminated. The blue neither care nor noticed, for he was already setting off on his quest. He did not look around him; the wher smelled something that gave his stomach pause. Surely, his destination was there. So, the blue marched. As best as a baby could, anyway.

He gazed up at Red and tilted his head a few times, as if considering how well they would work as a team. Yes, he supposed, this one would do. Certainly capable of keeping pace with him, with a good head on their shoulders.

You, he said as he devoured the contents of the bucket in front of his chosen, Resk's, right now.

Resk
Blue
Intelligent, Self-assured, level-headed
11 feet
Red
#6151bc

Name: Resk

Color: Blue(#6151bc)

Appearance: Resk is a stunning blue wher; He'll stand out amongst his blue brethren. His color is a red-toned blue for its base, but all over he shines with a gold-orange shine not commonly seen in chromatic whers. His undersides practically glow an orange-yellow, as if he were being lit by a strong light or fire. The pattern repeats itself on his wings, where 'embers' seem to dance on his wingsails when the blue wher moves. While his wings are still vestigial, they are slightly larger than average, and Resk doesn't seem to have the large underbite common for whers.

In build, he sits at an average 11 feet in length, and isn't too remarkable in that way. As such, he is physically suited for many work environments, but tends to be incredibly agile and rumor has it that he is able to stop on a dime, turn the other way, and start running the other direction in a span of a few seconds.

Personality: Resk is self-assured, level-headed and intelligent.

Where some, or maybe most, blues go against the flow or create their own, Resk has no problem going with the tide. He is very difficult to take down emotionally, and does not care about opinions or insults born to drag down either him or his handler. He knows exactly who he is, who his handler is; Resk does not need anyone to question him or Red. However, he is not arrogant. If he sees that there could be an improvement, or there's a situation that needs answers, he'll do the best a wher can do to make that happen. Resk could care little about what he has to do to find answers to his questions as long as he isn't sacrificing himself or his handler, and the blue can be remarkably focused and determined when setting out for a task. He wants things done. and has little to no patience for lazy folk, as they are just in his way and a complete waste of time. This is also the reason why he almost despises small children, or babies of any sort.

Resk is intelligent for a blue wher. He's quite clever, maybe even rivaling true metallics in this. Honestly, he can be slightly manipulative when he desires even if he means no harm. His mind can easily adapt to many situations, especially social ones. His voice, although he speaks with staccato sentences, is powerful and there will be little no no doubt when he deems it appropriate to speak. While most of the time his speech is very militaristic and blunt, mostly to his handler who he thinks should already be able to know what or who he is thinking about with little elaboration; He might adopt a more poetic voice, however, when the opportunity comes for it. Resk might not be that strong, but his mind has got him covered.

With his uncanny ability to adapt to many situations and sheer confidence in himself and his handler comes a certain level-headedness. While he prefers well-thought out plans and structure, he has a certain strength when it comes to adapting to sudden change. There will be very few times when he misses a beat when adapting to new situations accordingly.

It seemed the next to hatch would be one of the clutch’s largest. It jumped and twitched energetically, fine cracks appearing in the shell, and the audience waited with bated breath to see what it might hold. Bigger eggs tended to attract the most speculation, after all, and this specimen was no exception. Would another bronze be welcomed into the Weyr’s ranks – or perhaps a copper?

But the nose that finally appeared, shoved through a narrow fracture in the shell, was reflective and distinctly gold. A hush fell over the crowd, though it was quickly replaced by the dull roar of surprise and speculation. The egg itself was a fairly unremarkable dun color - but could it be that the darkness in the cavern had disguised an underlying yellow tint?

But no – as the egg broke open, the little queen that spilled out onto the Sands was revealed to be primarily a rich burgundy, though warm gold did indeed decorate her head and the outside edges of her wings. She stumbled as she emerged, but kept her feet, kicking out her legs in a clumsy attempt to work out some of the stiffness. Her limbs were long – her wings included – and her lengthy confinement in the shell couldn’t have been comfortable.

Though she continued to stretch and fidget, her attention didn’t immediately stray to the Candidates. She took the time, instead, to survey her surroundings, trotting forward to inspect some of the yet-unhatched eggs nearby. Her mother then received some scrutiny, as the garnet seemed to gather her wits and composure about her. The audience, too, was observed, but hurriedly, and with a visible shyness - they were all staring, and she clearly wasn't comfortable being the object of so much attention. Eventually, however, her hunger drove her forward, and she hopped carefully towards the line of girls, her narrow wings stretched out in a mostly-futile effort to keep them from dragging in the sand.

It didn’t take her long to pick out a Candidate from the crowd. She’d felt Her, the girl who would be her rider, almost from the moment she'd hatched – it was simply a matter of reaching her, through the abundant distractions in the cavern. Finally, though, she arrived before Shrike, and seemed to fold in on herself, her tension melting away and her frame drooping in relief.

There you are. Your Bindith is so tired, and hungry. But you will fix it, won’t you?

Bindith
Trustworthy and Sweet Explorer
46 feet
Garnet (#AD1B07)
Shrike

Appearance:
Bindith is a smaller garnet, measuring in at 46 feet. She is built finely, with narrow wings, long limbs, and a slender torso. She will be quicker and more maneuverable than most of her color, and will cut a compelling and graceful figure in the air. Her stamina, of course, will suffer some, but she'll have no trouble outlasting a Fall.

Bindith's coloring is simple but eye-catching: her head and the outside edges of her wings are a rich gold, which darkens rapidly into orange and then red in a gradient that stretches the length of her body. The tip of her tail is a burgundy so dark it appears black unless seen in strong, direct sunlight. Though not extravagantly marked, the metallic sheen on her hide is particularly well-pronounced, giving her a glossy finish that is sure to turn heads.

Personality:
Bindith is a sweet garnet, honest and somewhat introverted. Though not the Weyr’s greatest socialite, she carries herself well, and is a dignified and mild-tempered queen. Well-spoken, she is difficult to rile up, and is a voice of reason even in high-stress situations.

However, though diplomacy might suit her, it is not her natural inclination. Bindith is something of an explorer; she seeks out new experiences and enjoys being in nature, away from the demands of the Weyr. While aware of – and committed to – her responsibilities, she is not as proactive as her rider, and will make sure to pull Shrike away for needed breaks and distractions. Despite this inclination to wander and observe, however, she is not particularly high-energy, and her explorations tend to resemble retreats more than expeditions. She’s brave, not inclined to fear the unknown, but she’s not precisely a thrill-seeker either.

Though a charming conversationalist, Bindith can become weary of too much social interaction, and will occasionally need to escape to her ledge – or, preferably, to some location outside of the Weyr – to enjoy quality time with her rider and recharge. She will rely heavily on Shrike’s work ethic and energy in their shared role as weyrwomen.

While not the most peppy, Bindith is a steadfast and deeply reliable queen. She does not seek out conflict, but she doesn’t shy away from it either. And while she’s neither combative nor particularly outspoken, she sticks to her guns, and doesn’t shy away from voicing an objection or concern – not even to a superior. She can be unrelenting, when necessary, and she is not easily distracted – not by people, ideas, or anything else. She won’t be a loud or flashy leader, but she will be one of the most constant, and certainly among the most trustworthy.

Bindith does, however, occasionally grapple with feelings of insecurity. Though it won’t be a constant issue, she will sometimes worry that she is not doing enough for her Weyr – not being proactive, or assertive, or successful enough in her role as a leader and a role model. She will rely on her rider to be a driving force and a motivator; she admires Shrike, and will be more successful and happier for her influence. She will, in turn, endeavor to be a staunch supporter for her rider, and a force for calm. Bindith has a quiet but enduring passion for life – she takes time to enjoy the ‘little things’, and is good at taking things day-by-day. She’ll make sure that Shrike lives with her in the moment, despite the responsibilities they will shoulder.
