Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Aniese sighed and looked down at her desk; though organized neatly, it was nearly overrun. She had yet to return the hides-- which had been lent out reluctantly enough in the first place-- that listed the current riders of Vaioa and their backgrounds, but she had finally finished combing through them and found a number of likely suspects. Wax tablets were stacked on top of each other, detailing various threads she needed to follow up on-- riders to approach, for instance-- and half-baked ideas that needed further development.

Still, she had to start somewhere. She had found the sibling couple of Saralyn and S'von; both had Impressed from Vaioan clutches, and both remained at Vaioa. Saralyn she knew, of course, if only by name and face; the copperrider was a wingleader now, and sat on council with the other 'leaders and 'seconds. S'von she recognized but had not spoken to.

Apparently, the pair had been children in Keroon; S'von had been an apprentice at the beastcraft hall. She wasn't ready to recruit beastcrafters yet, given the state of things in the South, but that would be her next port of call, and she was certainly ready to begin laying the groundwork. In addition, given the ties between beastcrafting and farmercraft, she suspected that the connection could yield something. And with Saralyn's typical (or so it seemed on paper) Holder upbringing, there was a chance she knew someone from the farmercraft.

Not the strongest of connections, but you never knew until you asked, and Aniese wasn't going to discard any possibilities without first exploring them.

Rezeirth shuffled on her stone couch, eager at the prospect of some company, particularly Eparenth's.

Why 'particularly'? Aniese asked, standing and stretching.

Rezeirth hemmed for a moment before replying, Eparenth is a fine, strong dragon. Plus, he leads a wing so well.

That doesn't answer the question, Aniese prompted, teasing. At any rate, have you told Eparenth and Moryth that I wish to meet with their riders?

Yes, yes. Rezeirth replied flippantly. They'll be up shortly.

Aniese didn't reply, but strode across the room to straighten the sitting area, tuck away whatever clothes she had left flung across her chair or wax tablets that hadn't made it back to her desk, and return to the join between her weyr and Rezeirth's. That Rezeirth was particularly keen for the attention of a Copper who was also a Wingleader was suspicious at best, but Aniese put it out of her mind. She didn't have time to dwell on her dragon's capricious changes in behavior and attitude at the moment; making progress in Southern was much more essential.

S’von had been planning on an easy night in. He’d already bathed and brought up some food from the dining hall, which he was happily munching on. For once he didn’t have any plans. At least until Moryth sat straight up, staring intently off into the weyrbowl.

Moryth?

After a long moment, she turned back toward her rider’s portion of their weyr. Rezeirth’s wishes to meet with us.

Say that again? When Moryth’s shock didn’t depart, he prodded her again. Rezeirth? Gold Rezeirth?

One and the same, the gray replied. She called for Eparenth as well.

Well wasn’t that just puzzling? Tell her we’ll be right over, he said, changing out his shirt for something more presentable before strapping Moryth for the short flight.

She landed beside Rezeirth, slightly eyeing the gold that was nearly twice her size. Pleasure to see you tonight, Rezeirth.

“Evening, weyrwoman,” S’von said.

Eparenth was far less shocked to hear the gold’s call. As a Wingleader, it was rather more expected to be in contact with the junior and even senior Weyrwomen. Saralyn, leave the paperwork for another night. Rezeirth calls us to meet in her weyr.

“Rezeirth?” she said aloud. “Just a minute, Epa.”

The copperpair landed neatly one Rezeirth’s ledge, beside the gold and the gray that had already arrived. Good evening, Rezeirth. Hello, Moryth. He may have greeted Rezeirth first in respect, but it was Moryth who he gently touched noses with, before settling down as Saralyn went inside. I hope it isn’t too crowded with the three of us.

Saralyn was apparently only a few minutes behind her brother, and she caught the tail end of his greeting to Aniese. “Good evening,” she said herself.

S’von glanced between the two women. “What do you need us for tonight?”

Rezeirth moved to leave plenty of room on her ledge as she saw first Moryth, and then Eparenth, approaching. Hello! She greeted the pair of them as they landed, and sat down within her weyr. She observed the two exchange a friendly nuzzle with interest, then glanced out over the Weyrbowl. It was quiet tonight, but that didn't mean it would remain quiet, and she wanted to be on the alert.

As if an afterthought, she glanced back at Eparenth and replied, There is plenty of room. It seemed that her hopes for flirtation were dashed by Moryth's presence-- or else she took Aniese's warning to behave quite to heart.

Aniese brushed off her tunic and looked up as Saralyn and S'von arrived. She saluted both of them and indicated her chambers, where there were enough chairs for the three of them. "Please, come in," she said.

Once inside, she fixed S'von with a penetrating gaze. "I'll get right to it, then. I need to know if you have any connections in the beastcrafthall-- or if you have any in farmercraft," she added, glancing at Saralyn to include her. "Cove Weyrhold is moving forward and we need to look into cultivating the land. With tithes still tighter than they should be, we need to move forward with growing and gathering our own crops. Do you know of anybody from your Holder days who might be able to address such a need? Or who would be willing to relocate to the south," she added pensively.

Eparenth rumbled pleasantly, glad for the company of both Rezeirth and his ‘sister’ Moryth. The gray and copper may not have been clutchmates, but their riders’ family ties had seemingly bled over to them as well. Once all three were settled, he seemed to agree with Rezeirth’s statement. It seems there is! And your ledge has a lovely view as well.

Aniese got right to the point as they seated themselves. S’von nodded as she spoke, already mentally cataloging the people he knew from his apprenticeship. He knew quite a few that would fit the bill. But farmers?

Saralyn had his back though, and when Aniese finished the copperrider snapped her fingers and pointed at her brother. “Your friend’s mother, wasn’t she a farmer?”

S’von looked at her blankly for a moment, before the memory dawned on him. “Oh! Cortyn’s mother! You’re right!” He turned to Aniese. “One of the masters I trained under in the Beastcraft, Cornelio, was married to a farmer. Their son was my roommate, and I believe that he walked the tables a few turns ago.” He paused and thought for a moment. “Cornelio and Cortyn are master and journeyman beastcrafters, as I said. Cornelio’s wife, Peyton, is roughly the equivalent of a master in her field as well, and their eldest daughter Lenya also took up the farmer trade.” He thought back to the last time he had heard from Cortyn. “I believe their second daughter is a harper, and the youngest is only... a turn older than the twins?” He turned to Saralyn for confirmation. “She would be thirteen, so I’m not sure if she’s apprenticed to a trade yet.”

Saralyn nodded along. “I would highly recommend them,” she told Aniese. “They’ve been friends of our...” she paused disdainfully, “family, for years.”

“Peyton and Cornelio are both hardworking and versatile,” S’von said. “If you’d think they’d be suitable, I’ll be in contact with them as soon as possible.”

Aniese steepled her fingers and nodded, looking back and forth between the brother and sister while the explanations came. It seemed that she had lucked out; the pair did seem to have some connection after all. She smiled. This alone would not be sufficient, and she'd have to follow up on her other leads; but it was a start.

"Well, we aren't going to be ready to establish a beastcraft near Cove Hold, not immediately," Aniese replied thoughtfully. "But if you think that they would be willing to relocate... and if the beastcrafters would not mind a small delay, while we get the farms started... then they sound like they may fit our needs nicely."

She leaned back and frowned thoughtfully. "If you could contact them... that would be very helpful. Don't make them an actual offer yet, but try to feel them out. If they do register an interest, then we will make them a formal offer and have it witnessed and signed, to cover all of the formalities. I'd imagine they would receive full protection of the riders and council down South, for a start. But anyway. We can hammer those details out later," she said, glancing at Saralyn. No doubt council would finalize everything. "Just let me know, once you hear anything. Do you think they will be interested?"
