Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

A humming noise could be heard echoing down the empty hallway, followed by quick footsteps as a woman pranced her way down. In her arms she carried a large pile of scrolls, of which she was balancing delicately as she made her way to the records room. Flitting along behind her going to and fro was a gold firelizard.

As she walked, Norsa kept a close eye on Amnesty. The gold was a definite mischief-maker and the blue rider wasn't always the most graceful of people. It wouldn't take much for her to stumble and drop her load. Amnesty appeared to ignore the slight glare the rider was shooting her way, continuing to go back and forth across the hall, examining cracks in the stonework and the glows on the walls.

You know if you continue to watch her and not where you are going, you will trip. But then again, you could trip on air.

Norsa couldn't help but roll her eyes at Pyvath's droll tone. Thank you for your input, but I can walk just fine, even with a towing pile of records in my hands, she huffed back mentally at the blue. When he made no reply, she focused back on what she was doing. Thankfully, she could see the entrance to the records room ahead.

Shooing Amnesty away from the shelving, the blue rider began to put the records she held away. It had been a favor for one of the candidate masters who hadn't the time to put away the scrolls themselves. Norsa, who had been helping with the lesson at the time, had offered to put them up. She definitely did not want to damage the rolled hides in her arms and didn't want her firelizard poking her nose where it didn't belong.

Miffed at the treatment Norsa was giving her, Amnesty proceeded to ignore her human, instead flitting over to one of the tables littered around the room. With a satisfied chirp, she landed and began nosing around some of the record hides that had been left. if she couldn't play with the ones Norsa had, maybe these would do?

Another day, another pointless mark on the calendar of his existence. K'triz was moping again. Dark and lonely thoughts plagued him constantly those days. Seiveruth could do little to cheer him up so he had stopped trying to hard. The best he could do was use a bit of logic and remind K'triz that he had a perfectly good reason for existing. That seemed to be the only way K'triz could be reached. Logic and smart thinking. It made him a great Thread-fighter...but a lousy conversationalist. Not that it mattered. He didn't talk to people much anymore.

After the incident with the 'Traitor' as Seiveruth liked to call her, K'triz had tried to continue as he once did. But it wasn't the same. He kept expecting each person he talked to, to just up and leave him like she had. Some actually did...but that was a self fulfilling prophecy working. Of course they were going to leave him behind when he was barely sociable to them. It didn't help that at the time Seiveruth was hyper protective of K'triz and made it hard for anyone to get that close. So K'triz drifted further and further away from people and delved deeper into his hidework and records. He practically lived in the Records Room. Seiveruth spent plenty of nights alone in the weyr due to K'triz falling asleep amongst all the dusty old hides. That wasn't to say he neglected Seiveruth, oh no. Seiveruth was the one thing that K'triz showed any sort of emotion over anymore. Seiveruth was his last attachment to some form of humanity, and that was a scary thought.

Drills hadn't lasted very long. And after the quickest and slimmest of meals, K'triz was in the Records Room again. Seiveruth had parked himself as close to the entrance to the Lower Caverns as possible. Curled up and hoping to catch a nap while K'triz was busy. Which would probably be all day unless business called. K'triz seemed particularly focused on one subject that day too. A lot of Riders and Handlers had left the Weyr to explore the South and K'triz was curious if the Records Room had any information about the place. Seiveruth doubted it since from what he'd heard, people didn't think the continent even existed for a while. But K'triz knew there were at least stories.

Seiveruth napped and K'triz dug through hides and scrolls. Both distracted. K'triz didn't notice someone else entering the room. He would have kept not noticing till they were gone...if not for the nosy little Gold. He had returned to his table with three new scrolls to look at and spotted the creature nosing around the ones he'd left on the table. At first the thought he was hallucinating again. That happened before due to him not sleeping for a full sevenday. But no, even after blinking hid eyes rapidly, it was still there.

"Hey! Get away from those!" His voice boomed a little louder than he had intended it too. It came with not using it much and forgetting how loud and deep his own voice was. Growing older had deepened his voice considerable but it was still smooth as usual. It was the kind of voice that would make a romantic weak in the knees hearing if it spoke poetry or sand songs. K'triz had no thoughts for such things...not anymore. He rushed to the table to shoo the Gold away.

Amnesty is a firelizard who is not easily startled. When the strange man suddenly shouted loudly and rushed the table, trying to shoo her away, she just sat back on her haunches and eyed him quizzically. This silly little man thought she was hurting his weird roll-things. All she wanted to know was what they were. Her person had some earlier as well, and wouldn't let her look at them either. Well, she definitely was not going to move for this man. With a dismissive glance at him, she continued with what she was doing, carefully nosing around the scrolls so she could peer at them.

While the gold wasn't startled, Norsa definitely was. With a shout of "Shards!" she dropped the handful of scrolls she still had, jumping and twisting around to find the source of what scared her. Hearing laughter from Pyvath in the back of her head, she scowled slightly as she tried to take deep and even breaths to calm her racing heart. Her narrowed gaze found the rider who had shouted. He looked like someone she should be familiar with, but she could freely admit she didn't remember the names of every rider in the weyr.

Seeing the source of his irritation, she rolled her eyes. It was her thrice be-damned firelizard causing mischief again. Figuring the gold would be fine for a few more minutes since she seemed to just be nosing around the scrolls on the table, the bluerider quickly gathered together the scrolls she had dropped before putting the rest up. Only then did she walk over.

Nodding slightly at the younger male, she gently scooped up her firelizard. "Amnesty, you know better than to mess with things like that," she lightly scolded the gold. With a miffed chirp, Amnesty wrapped her tail around Norsa's throat then proceeded to ignore the woman. Laughing lightly at the now pouting flitt, she turned her attention to the other rider. "Hey there. I'm really sorry about all that. Amnesty is too nosy for her own good. We were just returning some scrolls the candidates were using in lessons today. Hope I haven't interrupted your work. Oh, by the way, my name is Norsa. I'm the rider of Blue Pyvath. What's your name?"

She was rather chatty. It was normal behavior for her. She hoped the other rider wasn't too terribly cross, though she could understand if he was. Amnesty could be very annoying when she tried; most firelizards could be honestly. Despite this she didn't think she'd trade the gold for the world.

K'triz used to find firelizards quite amazing little creatures. Still did as a matter of fact, but his fascination with them was greatly dulled and at that moment he was far too annoyed. Glaring at the gold when it seemed to dismiss his presence he was ready to reach out and throw it off his scrolls. He knew the flit wasn't hurting them, he could see that plain as day. But what if it was planning to? Seiveruth stirred feeling K'triz's irritation spike. Nothing to be really worried about since K'triz seemed perturbed by many things those days. He was nearly as grumpy as Seiveruth was...almost.

The blue yawned and lifted his head to groggily prod at K'triz's mind. The stubborn young man kept him out though, not wanting Seiveruth to interfere. Seiveruth grunted at the cold shoulder, not that he didn't understand. K'triz just preferred to handle some things on his own. Fine. He'd just go back to his nap.

K'triz was grabbing and pulling his scrolls closer to him and trying to keep them from the gold's reach when the owner appeared. His head shot up and he was frowning and glaring so hard it would have made children cry. At least the woman picked the blasted thing up and away from his scrolls. While she was fussing at the gold he had gathered his scrolls together again and started sorting them on the table again. He held hope that she'd just take her firelizard and leave, but he had no such luck. She was talking to him now. If he chose to ignore her then she'd probably leave him alone...but there was a part of him that still clung to his once friendly nature. K'triz looked up at her and spoke in a rather gruff voice.

"It's fine," Not really but why make a fuss. The gold really hadn't hurt anything. Just annoyed him. "Not working. Just studying," It was the truth. He wasn't doing any real 'work'. Just research and reading. She mentioned her name and his brain automatically placed her. He'd never seen her face before, or had never bothered remembering, but she was in Granite Wing. He remembered the name from his memorization of the Member list for the Wings. "...K'triz. Blue Seiveruth."

Might as well be polite. If she was going to insist on staying there talking to him. Being rude would just invite conflict and he really didn't enjoy conflict. Seiveruth though, he was now wide awake and NOT happy. Someone was bothering his K'triz. A stranger! He hissed loudly outside and reached out with a snap to his voice to the woman.

What do you want?! Go away! Leave him alone! His whole body was bristled and tense as if he expected to squeeze into those caverns to save his Rider if need be.

K'triz winced hearing Seiveruth's angry message to Norsa. The blue had been hyper protective of him for a long time now, though he did at times encourage some form of interaction with others. But it had to be people Seiveruth approved of first. Strangers...strangers he didn't like at all. Though K'triz didn't like the disturbance he didn't want his blue scaring the woman away. They were being 'nice'. So far.

"I...apologize. He doesn't like strangers." Was all he'd offer. He didn't have to make too many excuses for his dragon. 'Behave. I don't think she means harm. Just being polite.' His response was an angry growl that rolled through their link.

Though the other rider was gruff and short with her, she didn't make a fuss. He may not be very sociable, after all not all blueriders were despite the stereotype. At the mention that he was just studying, she perked up. She did enjoy learning new things, though she herself would hate being shut up in the musty records room all day. If she had to read anything at all she just usually took the scrolls with her to read outside.

When he did finally introduce himself, Norsa had to think back to how she knew that name. Obviously she didn't know him personally of course, but she'd heard of him somewhere. After a moment's though, she had him placed. She heard mention of a bluerider who'd become much of a hermit in the recent turns, didn't really spend time with anyone other than his dragon. That was a shame since from what she remembered he used to be a rather friendly man.

She was about to make a reply when a voice not Pyvath's assaulted her mind, causing her to wince in slight pain at the volume. "Well, that was unexpected," she murmured quietly to herself, rubbing her temples before shaking her head and causing her curls to bounce.

Are you alright? Pyvath questioned in concern. Normally he would have snapped back at the other blue for daring to yell at his rider, being protective himself, but he knew of their situation and didn't want to antagonize it further.

I'm fine, Py-love. It was just unexpected it all.

Norsa quickly waved away his apology, sending him a smile to convey no hard feelings. "No, no, it's fine. I realize he is just worried for you." She didn't want K'triz to feel bad for his dragon, if he even did. It was hard for her to judge what he was feeling.

While Seiveruth growled and snarled outside, K'triz kept a close eye on Norsa. Though he had told his dragon she was just being polite he didn't know that for sure. It was far better to be cautious no matter the case. She waved off his apology and smiled which put K'triz at ease for the moment. It was good she wasn't bothered by his blue's outburst. He'd have hated to get into an argument over his dragon's attitude.

"Mmm. He has been worried for a long time. Despite my assurances that he has very little to worry for." He said the words with little emotion, only the slightest hint of fondness toward Seiveruth could be detected. "I appreciate you being so understanding." Once again that strange monotone voice. There was a time his voice always seemed to have a laugh just at the tip of his tongue. Now it sounded lifeless and joyless.

If you're going to invade his space make yourself useful. Talk to him. He hasn't not had companionship in many Turns. Seiveruth suddenly said to Norsa privately. His agitation at her presence was still obvious but he wasn't beyond seeing the opportunity presented to him. He didn't like using a stranger. Strangers could hurt His. But he was desperate now. Maybe they'd get through to him.

At his words she tilted her head in thought. A long time, eh? Yes, from what she could remember it had been a long time since K'triz really spent any time with people. Really she could understand why his blue would be worried about him. She herself had a small period where she avoided everyone just after moving to the weyr. Amnesty had helped, and so had meeting Ebylin.

Brought out of her mussing by his thanks, she shrugged. "No, it's fine. I had a point in my life where having understanding people around me helped, so I try to extend the same courtesy to others," she told him with a brighter smile. His tone still bothered her though. he wasn't emotionless and hiding them was not healthy in her opinion.

Suddenly Seiveruth butted into her thoughts. It took her a moment to realize he was speaking to her privately since K'triz made no move that he heard the blue since surely he would not be pleased with what he was saying. It made her think. She really hadn't planned on leaving him for a little while, but this only cemented her desire to get to know him. Norsa did realize it may be difficult. He seemed the kind of person who would rebuff friendship and it made her wonder what had caused this.

Brushing that aside for later (it wasn't like she could come straight out and ask him!) she turned her full attention back to him trying to figure out what to do. Well, it was getting somewhat late. Maybe she could get him to leave the records room? "Hey, K'triz, it is getting a little late. Dinner should have started a little while ago. Want to come with me to grab something? I was planning on just finding a nice spot in the weyrbowl to watch the stars." She hoped, since she wasn't planning on hanging around with a lot of people at dinner that he might join her outside.

If he'd heard Seiveruth's gruff plea to Norsa he'd have turned and walked away before anything else was said or done. He'd have none of his dragon's attempts at 'fixing' him. He was FINE sharding it. K'triz felt they were just staring at each other for a few moments after speaking. It felt slightly annoying. Or was that discomfort? Either way he didn't like the silence. If there was nothing to say then she could just leave. Seiveruth grunted audibly outside hearing his rider's train of thought. It used to be that his K'triz would fill a silence with jokes, laughter, or talk about his stories and studies. Now...there was only silence. As irritating as the endless gab used to be...the blue missed it dreadfully.

When Norsa spoke up again he felt the slightest prick of relief. Quickly overshadowed by a sense of distrust by the invitation she was obviously leading towards. He realized it the moment she brought up dinner. And his traitorous stomach actually growled loudly in protest to his already forming thoughts of refusal. Then she mentioned eating under the stars. There was a spark. A flicker of an old K'triz who used to spend candlemarks upon candlemarks outside under the night sky with his dragon trying to find patterns, to count the millions of lights that twinkled up there, and wondering what was all out there.

Seiveruth felt that spark and his own heart quivered with a bit of hope. He was there...still there! His boy! Hiding under that bitter man he became. Being bitter was HIS job. Not K'triz's. He sent the gentlest of nudges to K'triz to accept the proposal and to his amazement...

"Hmm...I guess I could eat. Important to refuel if I'm going to continue studying later. I wish to try and create an updated map of Pern. Which requires preparation." K'triz wasn't sure why he told her that. It wasn't like she needed to know. His updated map would include the South and he planned to 'interview' those that went there. He needed the information after all. Eying Norsa he started to move to leave the Records Room. Assuming she was going to follow or take the lead. Outside, Seiveruth shook himself and felt far more alert than he had been in a long time. He wanted it work...wanted it more than anything ever before...

A feeling of relief swept through Norsa, though she tried not to show it. He said yes! She hadn't missed the way he'd slightly perked up at the mention of star watching. Maybe he's done it before? She'd have to remember to bring it up at some point, maybe if he relaxes a little more. With that thought it mind, she hurried to follow K'triz, Amnesty tightening her tail around the rider's neck so she wouldn't fall.

You plan on going to the weyrbowl? Pyvath suddenly asked with interest, having been following along with what was going on.

Yes, we'll be there shortly. Just have to stop by the dining hall for food. Why? Did you want to meet us out there? I'm hoping Seiveruth will be out there too so I can meet him officially as well. He's a bit protective of his rider and it'd probably make him feel better if he actually saw me.

Norsa felt Pyvath give the equivalent of a mental shrug before he responded with, Probably. I shall see you there.

That done, she shot a quick glance over at K'triz again, feeling content. She didn't say anything as they walked, enjoying the silence. She felt it was companionable rather than strained. It was nice. It wasn't long before they reached the dining hall. It was still early yet so it wasn't overly crowded. They would easily be able to grab a tray and get out. Before they walked out, she also snatched them a skin of wine.

"I know a good place that's out of the way, so follow me," she said over the din of the other diners.

It was away from the main area of the bowl, so they missed all the comings and goings of others. The area was lightly spattered with grasses which made for a comfortable enough seating area. Pyvath was already there, his blue length stretched out nearby. While Norsa was setting her tray down, he was eyeing K'triz, blue eyes whirling with warmth and curiosity.

She settled herself down, shooing Amnesty away when the gold showed too much interest in her food. The firelizard warbled out in annoyance before flitting over to sit with Pyvath. Shaking her head, she leaned over her tray, nimble fingers making quick work of turning the slices of roast wherry and bread into a hearty sandwich.

"I've always enjoyed just sitting out under the sky," she told him after a moment. "It's peaceful, especially once darkness falls and most people are inside the weyr."

I wish to see this woman. Seiveruth said with a hint of interest in his voice. K'triz just gave a mental nod to acknowledge he'd gotten the message. Of course his dragon wanted to meet her. He wanted to meet everyone that interacted with his rider. K'triz wasn't always entirely sure why. It couldn't just be because of protectiveness. Sometimes it felt as if he were just judging them. Seiveruth couldn't truly explain his reasoning but part of it WAS that he was judging people. Sizing them up for their worthiness. Only the best could be with his K'triz, whether friend or something else.

K'triz glanced to his side at Norsa and wondered why she wanted to spend time with him. What was her motive? But surely she was just being friendly. If he started thinking everyone had an ulterior motive he'd be like his dragon. Course, he wasn't too far off from that. He had to admit it was...almost nice to just walk in silence with someone who wasn't trying to constantly fill the void with endless prattle. Once they arrived at the Dining Hall he avoided those he knew and tried to keep from their line of sight. Getting a tray and only getting a couple meatrolls and a biscuit for food he followed Norsa back out. He remained silent as he followed her and only grunted in response to her words. Seiveruth had taken to the skies while K'triz relayed where they were going as they went.

When they stopped he looked over at the blue dragon already waiting for them and stared back at them with his own tired eyes. Still, without a word, he unceremoniously plopped himself down near Norsa and watched her prepare her food for a moment before looking at his own. His stomach growled almost angrily at still having not been filled. Looking at Norsa when she spoke he opened his mouth to respond but was quickly interrupted by a sudden 'whump' and gust of air. Seiveruth had arrived after circling above for a minute to judge whether he wanted to get close or not. He was now standing before them with his head lowered and his eyes swirling between red and blue toward Norsa. He liked that she got His out of that room, but he still didn't know if he trusted her.

"Behave Seiveruth." K'triz's voice sounded a bit monotone when he spoke the warning and he turned to Norsa again. "This is my dragon. Excuse his rudeness."
