Welcome to Vaioa,

a desert triumvirate of Hold, Weyr, and Mine. Thread's return and bandit raiding brought strife between weyr and hold, but the bandits' recent defeat has returned the region to an uneasy peace. Now, a shipwreck on a forgotten continent and the decision to settle this rediscovered land has opened up a world of opportunity to Vaioa, if only they can handle the dangers.

Afternoon chores had been over for about a half-hour, and the Candidates were spending their brief pocket of free time before dinner doing whatever. For Zorog, this meant setting up in the commons and plucking out some tunes on his lute. He usually did this in his room, but, more recently, he had dared, every now and again, to bring his music out to the main area. Bronnia was happy that he was starting to gain some confidence in himself - at least on this particular thing - but, of course, she wanted him to do more! Zorog was very good with that lute, and it had Bronnia thinking that there had to be some way to get him heard by more people! She started to scheme, and eventually decided that she would need some help on her mission.

As Zorog continued to play in the common area, Bronnia went through the girls' side of the barracks, trying to find another one of the younger Candidates to help her with her task. Finally, she came to the room of one of the younger girls, named Xora, and she knocked on the door. "Hey, Xora! You in there? It's Bronnia. Can I get your help with somethin'?"

Xora had, surprisingly, showed up early for chores that day and ended up working herself ragged. And it was only noon. She was still determined to actually TRY and impress a dragon this time around. The day to day tedium of candidacy was starting to grow...boring. There had to be something more. She wanted a piece of that awe and excitement that all those others had on Hatching Day. And maybe, possibly, Impress to her ticket to getting out on her own. To no longer have to deal with the 'older people' telling her how to do this or do that. She'd make her own rules!

When she heard the knock on her door she was face down on her bed to rest her eyes. The sound jolted her from her dozing and in her startled state she ended up rolling right off the bed. With a yelp she hit the floor with a quiet thud and groaned as she sat back up.

"Bronnia? What do ya want?" Xora grumbled a bit as she stood up and rubbed her backside. Moving to the door she opened it enough to stick her head out. "Better be good. I was having a great nap."

Bronnia heard the yelp that came from inside the room, and frowned. Shells, maybe I came at a bad time, she thought to herself as she waited to hear Xora’s response. And, just as she suspected, the other girl did seem a tad grumpy at her presence.

“Oh, sorry, didn’t think I was interrupting anything too important. Sleep is good, but…” Bronnia looked at Xora, her expression conspiratorial. “Zorog is out there, playing his lute in the commons. He’s good, but he never seems to admit as much. I think he’s good enough to play as entertainment for dinner! I think he just needs to get out there and play and get some confidence, but I need some way to get him out there to do it.” Bronnia smirked, “maybe we could figure out some way to get him out there without having to drag him there, kicking and screaming.” Bronnia chuckled, “if you’re up to helping, that is. Naps are good, too.”

Xora eyed Bronnia wondering what she was up to. Sleep WAS important. To her anyway. Kept her from being a grouchy little bundle of grump. The look on Bronnia's face though promised something interesting. At the mention of Zorog she perked a bit. Zorog was a sweet kid. Only a Turn or so younger than Xora and rather talented. Her sleepiness disappeared and she had a sudden mischievous glint in her eyes.

"I'm sure if we put our heads together we can think of something.~" She grinned and stepped out of her room to head to the commons. They'd need to be clever to lure Zorog to the Dining Hall without him getting suspicious. There was ONE way...Entering the commons her eyes landed right on Zorog and she rubbed her hands together as an idea formed in her head. Walking over to him she put on her best innocent face. "Heeeeey Zorog! Your playing gets better every time I hear it."

And now came the trick part...

"Heard you playing and thought...'Hmmm. Maybe he's hungry from all that playing.'. And figured I'd invite you to go eat. How about it? Me, you...and Bronnia. A friendly little eatin'." Hopefully her grin didn't seem too big. It was hard for her to contain her giddiness at the fun to be had.

At the very least, when Bronnia mentioned her little brother by name, Xora rather quickly warmed up to her and her badgering, a certain devilishly playful look taking over the other girl’s face. Bronnia grinned right back at her, “well, good. Glad I can have some help,” she said, keeping her voice a little more hushed in case someone overheard them. Bronnia quietly followed Xora as she went out into the commons and initiated the contact with Zorog.

Zorog was stunned that someone would interrupt his playing so abruptly to compliment him on it… or just surprised in general that someone snuck up behind him and started talking to him. “Oh! Um.. h-hi Xora,” he stammered bashfully, “th-thanks. I d-do p-p-practice a lot.” He was, however, quite confused at just how… friendly she was being. Sure, she was another Candidate, and he did really need to talk to his fellows more, but something seemed off. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, and Bronnia was right there with her, so it couldn’t be bad, right?

And his stomach did growl at him in protest. “O-okay, we c-can g-go eat… t-together,” Zorog managed to say. “J-just l-let me p-put my lute b-back in my room.”

“Oh! Zorog, no! Don’t leave it unattended!” Bronnia warned, feigning worry though she knew what she said was absolute bullshit. “There’s been a prankster roaming the barracks the past couple of days, vandalizing and stealing things. You might never see your lute again if you leave it behind!”

Zorog gasped. “Th-that’s horrible! What sh-should I d-do?”

Bronnia smiled, “just take the lute with us to dinner. That person will be caught eventually, but, for tonight, we’ll just bring it with us for safekeeping.”

If Zorog hadn’t just been unnerved by the prospect of a thief in the barracks, he might have realized that there was something very suspicious about Bronnia and Xora right now. As it was, his stomach growling prompted him to stand up, lute in hand. “After y-y-you, l-ladies,” Zorog said politely.

Bronnia giggled, “such a gentleman, letting the ladies go first!”

Zorog blushed, giving the two girls a bashful, sheepish look.

Xora's smile only grew hearing the bashful response of Zorog. He was a good kid with a great talent and she thought it was kind of cute how shy he was. Most boys she knew were too rash and full of themselves. "You're very welcome!" She said and noticed how confused he seemed. He probably wasn't used to people complimenting him. That was just a sad thought. Talent like his should be encouraged! When his stomach growled and he agreed to go with them she felt a sense of victory but he wanted to put his instrument away...thankfully his sister fixed that problem.

"She's right. Terrible little trickster. Took my favorite pair of socks. Haven't seen them sense." Xora added trying to keep a worried appearance though she truly wanted to burst into laughter. Zorog's gasp didn't help either. It was a true struggle it was. Bronnia was obviously good at thinking on her feet too cause she had it taken care of in a snap. She giggled with Bronnia when he politely offered them to go first. "Come on, let's not tease. I think it's very sweet." And yet she still giggled seeing Zorog blush with that sheepish look on his face.

She pulled ahead of them to lead the way to the Dining Hall. Xora always did like going there to just watch people though watching wasn't always as fulfilling as throwing herself into the fun. Being so much younger than most of those that gathered there didn't stop her either. She could already hear a good crowd as they got closer. "Sounds like people having some fun in there! Dinner is always nice with company!"

[I am SOOOOO sorry this is so late and short and bleh and can you forgive me?]

Zorog just couldn't get over the fact that people were actually complimenting him on anything! Before he had come to the Weyr, he had only ever known one person who truly thought he was talented. Everyone else had been too mean to him for such compliments! It did feel good to have people who liked his playing, he was just still so unused to it that anything beyond blushing and stammering in response was hard to manage.

Bronnia giggled at Zorog's sheepishness and Xora's response. "Sorry, but I couldn't help but compliment little brother on how polite he is! If only everyone could be so considerate." This made Zorog even redder and much, much quieter as the trio made their way over to the dining hall, with Zorog grasping his lute protectively.

"Yes, and we're both glad that you could join us, Xora!" Bronnia said as she, too, tried to stifle the mischievous giggles that wanted to escape. However, Zorog was behind them, so Bronnia managed to wink conspiratorially at the other girl without Zorog noticing.

"So, where do you wanna sit?" Bronnia asked, though she glanced back and forth between Xora and a spot near the stage where some Harpers were already setting up, hoping that Xora - and not Zorog - would pick up on her hidden message.

"Oh, yes! If only!" Xora said with a chuckle as they went on their way to the Dining Hall. She grinned at Bronnia and simply nodded at her words about being glad she was there. Xora was more than happy to join in on the fun. It was harmless and Zorog did need the boost in confidence. If things went bad she'd get him out of there quick if need be. She didn't want it to turn sour, not when it had potential to make the shy boy come out of his shell. All in good fun, right? She winked back at Bronnia and once they were inside she looked around.

Glancing at Bronnia when she spoke, Xora noticed the subtle hint of her's to go to the spot near the Harpers. A mischievous grin spread on her face. "I think I'd like to sit over there. Near the stage. Better to hear the Harpers play you know? Heh, I heard that music was good for the digestion. Can't remember where I heard that though..."

Xora looked at Zorog and smiled almost sweetly. "What you think? Want to listen to some professionals while we eat? Maybe you can ask for good tips. Bet they'd have lots of advice." She shrugged and laughed. "Or we can just enjoy dinner and the show. Let's go!" And off she went to lead the way again.
